- Top Ten Large Size One Dollar Banknotes Part 1 featuring Numbers 10-6 on the countdown. It’s been since last June that I did my first ‘Top Ten’ featuring my two dollar bills. To see that see the link below in the description. My “Top Ten Ones” video has been on the back burner because I couldn’t narrow it down to ten. There are a lot of one denominations to choose from and I could not make a decision until it dawned on me to break the list into two - Large Size and Small Size. I thought I had it solved until I started writing, writing and writing. The video got long real quick. I have to explain my criteria for selecting Top Ten notes. I purchase notes for my collection for appearance, both front and back, color and most importantly? That they have a good story and history behind them. Those are things that bring life to my collection. I realized that if I did all ten of the top ten it would be a very long video - and you all know I’m not shy about making long videos! So that explains Part 1. Part 2 is my next video.

Is it called Paper Currency or Paper Money? Because it’s not paper at all. But I am a Paper Money Collector and like Paper Money Collecting as a Hobby. The Hobby is called Numismatics and if you collect you are a Numismatist. I also love History and work for a historical society and love collecting a Dollar or Dollars specifically the U.S. Dollar or is it the US Dollar? I have recently started collecting Obsolete Bank Notes or Obsolete Banknotes? Is Banknote one or two words. Today’s currency is made by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) and issued by the Federal Reserve Bank which issues Federal Reserve Notes that have a green seal and green serial numbers. At one point in time they issued large size banknotes called Federal Reserve Bank Notes. The Treasury Department used to issue Treasury Notes, Gold Certificates, Silver Certificates, and Legal Tender Notes, United States Notes and National Bank Notes. There were two sizes of U.S. currency. They were the Small Size Banknote, Small Size Bank note and the Large Size Banknote, Large Size Banknote. Before 1996 they were called Small Head Banknotes, Small Head Bank Note and after that they were called Monochrome Bank Note, Monochrome Banknotes.
That was awesome, me personally I love the blanket notes. Great top ten. 👍
Thanks George! I'm glad my brain worked one day to just feature the "large" note ones by themselves. They are so cool.
My favorite has to be that Mexican note, and there's even more story behind it, i believe back in the day the US didn't allow real US currency to be shown in movies, so what filmmakers did is buy tons of these obsolete revolutionary Mexican money and used them instead! I remember watching "it's a wonderful life" for the first time not long ago, and in the one scene where he's giving away money at the bank, he's holding chihuahua notes!
That is AWESOME! I will be featuring the Chihuahua notes again in my "top series" and I will totally put that in there! Fantastic cultural footnote!
Now I need to watch the movie as well!!!
I love that movie but I never noticed that about the Chihuahua notes. Thanks for sharing!
National Banknote Co formed when principal share owners Danforth, Perkins and Co,along with former members of Danforth,Wright and Co,fought over the merger.Their first contract was making all US postage stamps.A little shout-out to their engravers, some who workedfor ABNCo.,Cyrus Durand, Joseph Pease,James Smillie, Joseph Ourdan, William Marshall, William Nichols and George Thurber, each had to engrave certain parts.Oddly enough though,NBNCo would merge with the monopoly that was ABNCo in 1879.I guess they got an offer they couldn't refuse

As always appreciate the information that I don't get to and you'll hear from Smillie in the next video! And you have to wonder how big ABNCo was to dominate like they did!
OK that video just went on the "Watch Later" list!
Great video Dan! I’m glad you split them up to tell the story. Really great notes especially the King George.
I laughed out loud with “he does look like a huge D-bag!” 😎🤙🏼
Well being a "D-bag" myself, it takes one to know one! Know thyself? And yeah, what is it with that $1 King George V? I just like it.
Nice list so far. You are definitely right about that 1917 One as compared to mine. The story behind number 7 is fascinating. Love the Canadian note, I knew that they were bigger at one time, similarly to how some of their coins mirrored the sizes of the coins in the United States, although they kept their 5 cent coins smaller longer than US, and their one cent coins larger than US into the early 20th Century. Their Half Dollar may have been as large as ours at one time, but they are currently smaller than ours, and oddly the same size as our Dollar coins, but with reeded edges.
Yeah the Bank of Chihuahua notes have some history! Thanks for the support and comment Timothy!
Great collection, Dan! Thanks for taking the time to share part of the story of the Mexican revolution. I think my favorite note form this 5 was your #9. It's really cool it has the portrait of Lincoln and it's amazing it's so thin! Imagine being the lucky "unknown" girl that was featured on the same bill as Lincoln himself!
Thanks Joe - yeah they use a generic term called a "maiden" for all the different young ladies - but they are someone - and that would be cool to be on the same note! What is cool I just got the sister $2 note to this and it's just as thin!
Beautiful collection. As always great video. Thanks Dan.
Thanks RNR - still thinking about your $2.50 gold! Awesome coin and appreciate you giving the story to it.
Thanks.
I listen and educate myself while doing my Ebay listings which are getting heavier on US Paper Currency so I appreciate the education!
I appreciate your watching and the kind words. Give me a shameless plug for your eBay store?
Excellent! The 1923 Legal Tender is a monster - have always loved the red better than the blue seals personally
Hey thank you and welcome to the channel! The red is just different - especially on those 1923s. Thanks for the comment!
The 1923 Legal is the grandfather of the dollar bill in your wallet! I adding a red one to my collection back in 2015 in AU 53. Love that note.
⭐Great Stuff !⭐ Love all the notes. The Large $1 Canadian is my favorite of the group. ❤
Thanks Ontario - good pick! I really don't know why I like it so much. Maybe the similarity to US notes of the time but not?
@@PolarCurrency I did not know until recently that Canada had large size notes. ⭐
what i like about ur style of collection is you do not necessary go for the top pop notes but go with the story and the feel of the note, making it more financially sustainable, else one can run out of money with fewer notes if you go for the 60 grades ones. great collection of notes and thank you for the content.
That's probably the nicest comment I have received. Seriously, thank you and you get it. I don't have the budget. I do sacrifice grade for quantity but will never apologize for anything in my collection. And most of the time there is some reason why I am getting a note. This 2-part video is a good example. #10-6 is 16 minutes long. Part 2 is 27 minutes long because the history and stories have more to them. Again, thanks for taking the time - appreciate it greatly.
@@PolarCurrency yeah we are in the same boat in style !
Hi Dan,
Awesome notes you have there. Especially the stories behind each one. I do like all your honorable
mentions as well. Looking forward to Part 2 when it comes out. Take care. 🙏
Bill 😎👍
Thanks Bill! Yeah its the story and the history that compels me to be more of narcissist! Thanks for the kind words and Part 2 is confirmed Friday Feb 23rd!
@@PolarCurrencyDan, you’re most welcome. And looking forward to part 2.😎👍
Looking forward to number 2!
(I say that every morning)
Not often do I LOL but totally did on that comment! It's true - very true!
Great stuff Dan! Your editing skills fascinate me.
Thanks Dustin - appreciate the kind words!
Greatly enjoy your videos. 🍁 A couple of the notes you have, I have, but I'd like to get a couple more of them in time.
Love those large size - cost is always the factor, but everything is! Thanks for the support and comment Mark!
Love the King Charles $20 you flashed up on the screen... 🙂
OK - what's weird, besides me, and maybe creepy but was totally thinking about you when I was Photo-shopping that King Charles III $20. Appreciate that you noticed Emanuel!
Thanks Dan, very well put together as always, we appreciate your hard work and efforts,Keep Stackin bro
bigo2032 really appreciate that - I does take some time - but not complaining. Combines three of my hobbies of history, currency and graphic/photoshop/video. And I'm a narcissist!
Hi Dan!! Just overall amazing banknotes!!! This Chihuahua note and the story got me!!! Now I need this note in my collection like asap!! Chihuahua! What a name!! My tongue hurts spelling it!!
They are great notes and very affordable - the series has 1, 5, 10 , 20 and 50 Pesos. They all have the same design but different colors! Thanks Nikolai/Roman - sorry can't remember who I'm talking to but you both are great. Thanks for the comment!
@@PolarCurrency Thank you for your kind words!! I will get these notes as soon as possible!! Best regards, Roman
Very good content, looking forward to number 2.
Thanks GenX! Someone from my generation! Appreciate the compliment and the comment.
Great content! Love all the back stories!
Thank you! It's all about the story!
@@PolarCurrency Btw: This comment section is like a who’s who in currency on RUclips! Love that as well!
Very nice notes! Great video. I enjoy notes that are predominately a single color as well...
Thanks Benjamin - trying to mix in some "old" world banknotes!
Thanks Dan!
Thank you Shawn!
Very cool top 10 list. I am getting ideas for future videos…lol. Thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks 4Kollector - I can't wait to see what you come up with.
@@PolarCurrency I can assure u mine will be a bore compared to urs…😂
@@4Kollector Your videos are great - and you have a wonderful collection. Your grading video. You pull out that 1951 £20 Bank of Scotland? That's amazing! Am adding to bucket list but just may have to pick up the more affordable 1£!!!
Alwys very kind 🙏
Another great video, Dan. Never heard of the cogwheel note.
I've heard it a few times but have not seen it "documented". Thanks for the support!
@@PolarCurrency I think you deserve credit for it!
I'm back!!! haha I have a lot to catch up on apparently! Great video! I see you are still crushing the YT game brother. I need to get back to it myself shortly. I'll be honest the survival estimate of the United States Note and Treasury Note shocked me. That is a tiny number of available notes. I agree that obsolete paper is super thin. However, I think I have a contender to it in the thin realm. Check out my "Elvis blowing glass" note. That thing is less than good ole 1 ply TP! ;) Could you imagine trying to not rip the damn thing back in those days! haha. Love that Mexico note as well. The color is incredible! Thanks for sharing Dan!
HEY SILVER SURFER! YOU ARE BACK! You were missed! First off thank you for your service, sincerely. It takes a special person who has a special family for ALL to serve our country - and we all owe you and your family the sincerest appreciation. I have an Elvis note too! It is on the thinner side but the $1 Obsolete still is thinner! Can't wait to see what you'll be rolling out on the YT and catching up with you. Thanks for the love and comment! We WILL talk.
Good one! Have you done a video on Remainder notes?
Will be part of upcoming Obsolete videos - have like three of them coming...I'm getting in way too deep on them and loving every minute.
My brain hurts now. Even medicated, I think I learned something!🤮🤧🤒
Two reasons: 1) you have a cold and 2) you now have to go thru a billion ones! And apologies!
It would be interesting to know the process how bills are signed. How cursive writing has gone away. Especially newer dollar notes signed by 6th grade style signature - Steve T. Munchin
It’s same Senator Benjamin R. Tillman who came up with a megalithic battleship design. As America entered the Great War. That were never built. - the Tillman battleships.
It's my understanding that a lithograph process is used for signatures, first used for the 1935A(?) $1 only. They first did this with the 1929 small size FRBNs in 1933 when adding all the Federal Reserve Bank District signatures. They were part of the Intaglio plate so if when the position changed an entire new plate had to be made and took much longer. So now the signatures go on with the seal and the serial numbers as part of the "third" print. Different Tillman on the signature - J. Fount Tillman from Tennessee - but great story about the battleships!
@@PolarCurrency- 🇺🇸👍
I've been looking for the $1 Singapore, Michigan note like you have. Where did you get yours?
Mark - got it from a money show in Baltimore - randomly looking through a pile. But I may have a lead on a five - at least I did a week ago. Can you please email me at polarcurrency@gmail.com for details?
