I didn't realize taking things slowly was so uncommon. I've made the Shell Phone on every single playthrough I've done of this game, purely because I enjoy being methodical and taking my time, doing everything I can before I move on. Not only do I always make a Shell Phone, I also 1. Always isolate the evil biomes by making hellevators (usually with dynamite just to be safe). 2. Always make Terraspark boots. 3. Do the fishing quest at the beginning of each day. 3. When Hard Mode begins, I find the newly created Hallow and Evil biomes and isolate them, too, again with dynamite. This results in big diagonal tunnels and a ton of deaths, but is a lot of fun regardless. I've done four playthroughs on different worlds with different characters and each one clocked in at over 100 hours because I just... enjoy spending time in Terraria, I guess. I'm glad you too have seen the benefits in taking things a little slower!
Besides the Hellevators (Which when I do, I mine them normally, I always do the same thing and take my time. Too bad I can't build at all because I would like to have a nice and pretty world to look at for the 100 hours I spend on it lol
I think my favorite month has to be November only because you killed the empress 30 times and didn't get the drop you wanted. Good thing you got it in the end though
The reason the wiki page for the venus magnum hasn't been changed is almost certainly because you're using the fandom wiki (gross, cringe, unbased, and lame).
Luck is actually a good thing to invest into even outside of farming scenarios. It increases your DPS overall, and reduces damage taken overall, because it provides a chance to recalculate bad damage variation.
Every playthrough: Craft the Shellphone, Ankh Shield, and Terrasparks. Acquire a Rod of Discord. Fish up a Bottomless Lava Bucket and Sponge, and Lava Shark mount. Fishing Quests for the Bottomless Water Bucket, the SASponge, and the Golden Fishing Rod. Recent playthroughs have added the Honey Bucket and Sponge, and you can tinker the sponges together. Defeat Moonlord. Everything else is conditional.
I have played many worlds... but I always kept this one world as a sort of home base. It was the first expert mode world I made on the day the update rolled out. And I have returned to it and built it in since 2015.
the goblin tinkerer after witnessing throarbin break down in public about not getting the stellar tune: there there, there there there (captain holt from Brooklynn 99 voice)
I've had a quest to get every single item in the game. If memory serves, I've gotten about 98% of them, with some banners, rare clothing items, and quest items remaining. I've spent a ridiculous amount of time on one world, but it's impossible to be bored when the goal remains incomplete.
Watching this honestly encouraged me to start a long term world on vanilla terraria. I've been mainly playing modded for the past few years and thought it might be a nice refresh to do another vanilla playthrough
Seeing a person who has probably been playing this game way longer than I have with countless challenges and modded playthroughs etc. more or less struggle with aspects of the game that I find basically essential and thought of as universal knowledge has definitely given me a new perspective. Not even thinking of already dividing the world into easily contained sections with spread apart hellevators and 1-2 horizontal tunnels which I have done in several worlds in PHM or not being very experienced with fishing (the lack of proper fishing setups is killing me)/crafting some bigger recipes in PHM already. Shows how differently people play this game and how many aspects there are to it.
This is my favorite video. In my 9 years of using youtube ive never left a comment. My favorite game, my favorite youtuber, and just perfection of a playthrough with some of the craziest ideas with the cleanest builds.🔥
38:20 I get that, I have a full chest of quest fish and keep struggling to get all of those items. Only just got the sextant and I’m in early hardmode. I’m still missing the metal detector because I can’t for the life of me find a Nymph. I see one of the rare creature detector but can never locate them. This also goes for the Terraspark books, I feel like my luck is horrible because I’m missing so many items. I resulted to fishing for that too and while I got the water walking boots on the first sea side chest, I’m approaching double odds for the jungle one. And I’m still missing the ice skates. Although I have realized I should have dealt with the corruption way earlier so maybe I’l stumble across some new chests as I quarantine it. I grew tired of the grinding for luck things so I went into hard mode… which introduced another extremely painful grind of having to defeat the wall of flesh 18 times to get the weapon I want. The fight wasn’t hard since I had as good of gear as I could get then (outside of those boots), but it was incredibly tedious. Especially with having to wait through the nights for the guide to respawn. Fishing is such a relief after all that, so that grind is easier.
I’m glad I could ride along with you on this journey throarbin it’s been epic since February week one. I haven’t caught a Calamity stream yet but I’ve been doing a one year one world vanilla this new year. I mean look at it we got you a pet fish because of it 😂 100K!!
Except sometimes they take FOREVER to port updates in Console Editions. Wish they could add a primitive form of tModLoader in Console Editions as that would be AMAZING. Same with Texture Packs as well as it would be a nice addition.
I'm sure it was already explained to you, but the Shimmer Golfer is an animal since he's the Zoologist's brother, who is a werefox. So his Shimmer form being an animal is a nod to that.
I remember playing terraria at launch at like 11 years old, my first world took me and my friend years bc they hadn’t put out ochram yet and then they removed him and added moon lord. I remember when they added hard mode after wall of flesh was the final boss.
30:26 I completely agree. Pre-hardmode is all about exploration, nd it's a mix of building, exploring and boss fights, however, tleast for me, whenever I get into hardmode, it just feels like a "boss rush"
2:41:21 IF YOU PLAN TO DO MORE OOA IN THE FUTURE: I would recommend using ALL the Tavernkeep sentries for the event and not just one, as well as the armor
45:15 That’s why my Hallow biome doesn’t have anything on the surface?? I was so confused since the background and water color changed but nothing else happened
I respect your gameplay style so much! Its so rare seeing someone choose form over function, fun over meta, and taking your time over playing efficiently. I love that approach and I think more people would enjoy games more if they realized that was an option. It's kind of like trying to remember what it was like to play games as a kid, before internet guides and optimal ways of playing games, when you just run around trying your best. I feel like if I played terraria as a 10 year old I would have not even killed a single boss but have hundreds of hours having a blast. Kinda crazy!
If you already knew this and I missed it, or if you found out since doing this, then ignore me. Prismatic lacewings only despawn instantly outside of the hallow. If you had made an arena in the hallow (or fought the empress in the hallow without one) you wouldn't have lost a single one. Great video though! It was a wild ride! Gonna slowly work my way through the Calamity one next.
3:54:55 The crafting recipe was added so you could still acquire shimmer in an end-game world if you started the world before shimmer was added or managed to remove all the original shimmer from your world.
I just want to say that this video has been inspirational for me. I have played a lot of terraria in my past but recently found myself missing those days. While looking up videos to determine if I was willing to take the plunge into the deepened that is terraria. I came across this video. Seeing how you approached this play through in a relaxed no pressure sort of way really clicked with me. I want that so I'm going to do the same and just have fun with a new character. Thank you for the content and even more, the peace of mind.
My most recent terraria world was made in 2022 and I spent 2 months pre hard mode, I really love it when people take their time in games it’s honestly much more rewarding than speedrunning or finishing the game in less than a week.
Just came across this video, and got to the point where you talk about having trouble implementing your vision while building. As I often have the same problem, I figured I'd provide the method I used to get past that and actually put buildings in Terraria. The first step is to start drawing rectangles using some kind of material that stands out from the background. These aren't there to be the final border of your building, but instead to give you an idea of how it fits into the world. If you're doing something like a castle tower (as an example), you should use two rectangles, arranged in a T shape. The point of this is to help you get an idea of where you want this in the world, how it fits in, and the scale you want to work with. The second step is to start filling in each rectangle. Don't work on all of them at once. Just start with one, get it mostly done, and then work on the next. The point of this step is to get 80-90% of each part done, letting you work on the project in pieces. This helps keep you from getting overwhelmed in details that don't matter for the part you're working on (not having to worry about designing crenellations while building up the sides of the tower), and gives you clear breakpoints. So if you feel worn out after one section, you can wander off and do something else for a bit and come back to work on the rest later. Once you're done with all the sections, tear down (or replace) any leftover material from the rectangles, and then do whatever little touch-ups you need to make the parts fit together better. This is also when you do the non-critical decorating (like if you want a glowing block every 7 tiles, you should place that down earlier in the process, just to make sure it all fits) and little things like any wiring for stuff. My favorite build I did this way was a treasure storage based on a bank. I had the following rectangles as I started building: front area/lobby (mostly for aesthetics and showing off some neat color combos), light security (the kind of stuff you don't mind losing), a main vault (most of my gear), and the "top secret" basement vault (favorite gear and rare drops). I also had an upstairs area (set up like offices with various neat things on the walls). Each of those was a separate rectangle, and I worked on each on its own. The light security area got wooden chests, the main vault got gold chests, and the basement vault got shadow chests. It was a fun build to design. Especially since I put traps on the basement. And I wound up putting the on/off switch inside the vault itself, and used a magic mirror to get out when I was done. Getting back in later was hard, though...
been following this through my home page not clicking on anything for like two months cus i wanted the full story not snippets. thank you for uploading this
Over Covid I spent a lot of time on terraria and I also did the class hoping thing with the loadouts, I found that switching the hot key to also be the hot bar slot where I put the respective weapon was super helpful. This meant when I switched to the weapon I also switched my load out to optimize it.
Saw this video and had a very fun time listening and half-watching while doing some house work on the side. Great storytelling, great summary, nice guitar you have there. 10/10, will come back for more, might even re-watch this one a couple of times. 👍
Bit late to the party, but this has been a video I've spent the last week watching. Honestly, hats off for the accomplishment. Now I'm listening to the Stellar Tune of an outro you've put together. 🎉🎉
38:05 lmao I got the shell phone pre-hardmode on a character I had 55 hours in by the end of hard mode. I also got terraspark and bundle of balloons and horseshoe.
I gotta say, one random issue with if you purify mining straight up is that corrupt/crimson/hallow sand can fall into the underworld and sometimes become very annoying. I was missing one block in a large world and had to use tedit to find it. Turns out it was under a large lava pool
lol, this one does cut the intros and outros, the first 3 months are re-narrated, and there's an extra week that wasn't included in previous videos, so hopefully it's even better, lol
This was a fantastic video to watch. The current trend for 100days and whatnot is fun but this was so fascinating. Just watching you slowly take your time and enjoy the game has been super satisfying. Well done!
You are so underrated, this is definetly my favorite terraria video of all time! Thank you so much for this well spent time of my life! Even a tear fell
I didn’t know what video to play for my nephew and I didn’t want to pick any brain rot these kids watch now and day and I remembered this video and he was content with it
To make lots of money pre-hardmode I fight the Old One's Army. With a snowball cannon and an explosive trap sentry, maybe a few spikey balls, I can eliminate the army in minutes and earn a platinum after about two goes. I love having the sentry weapons to use in regular play too.
Watched the whole thing and don't regret it, this was such a inspiring video that truly gave me a new look at the game and how taking it slowly makes it so much more beautiful
dirt block in second one year one world guys its gonna be so good cuz of my dirt block that's right guys MY dirt block it's mine you cannot own it i worked for my dirt blocked it is mine
You’ve given me an idea. I might try starting a new run where I immediately set up my main base in the tundra and try to defeat Deerclops as soon as possible, with as close to starting gear as possible, then going through pre-hardmode using all the Deerclops stuff. Could be fun!
This video is honestly a masterpiece in storytelling. The right amount of excitement, annoyance, mundanity, all wrapped up into a 4 and half hour video. I watched the whole thing in one day and it never once felt like it was dragging on,
The only thing I hate about this video is knowing that something similar will take ages. Well done and great job, my biggest "issue" with Terraria is the wiki infection, having 20-50 tabs open because you go down a rabbit hole of what you want to do - but that also leads to (at least for me) avoiding anything "unnecessary" (aka anything that could still be amazing/fun/great to know, but takes too much effort to explore). I've seen a ton of things in here I didn't even know about and is really useful
45:17 I remember reading about this in the patch notes, the Jungle can't be consumed/corrupted by Hallow, Crimson and Corrupt because it would softlock the world's progression (if the player allows them to consume/corrupt it, something most would in their 1st playthrough), or something like that
33:20 maybe they meant herb farms, Also in pre-hardmode aside from some accessories you cant get anything, but the fishing ones are cool if you combine them
so weird, im completely the opposite ive played terraria occasionally and sometimes less occasionally, for about 3 or 4 years and i've had in total 2 and a half worlds one of them i put in like 250h or something
@yurilopes420 I think the reason is that everyone has fun in different ways: for me I like progressing and killing bosses for the "first" time other people might enjoy building or 100%ing the game more
Totally agree with what you said about the jump into Hardmode. I usually don’t make it very far into hardmode for that exact reason; the game practically shifts genre from sandbox rpg to an action rpg.
I agree, but personally I'm more of a fan of hardmode because it has more weapon and armor choices for each stage of progression. pre hardmode is pretty chill, but hardmode throws a ton of enemies at you. I think both are great but I can see how that'd turn someone away.
@WhatTheScallop626 which is part of why i agree with why you wanna chill in pre-hardmode beucase there are sooo many choices that I have to get all of them to actually see what works with me(basically I have to grind more)
Now do it again… with Calamity
agreeful
Do it in infurnam to make it interesting

@catnip9178 he already started it
gonna be doing this myself with a couple friends soon hopefully

@DankSouls37 If you haven't already, I found Khaios' building tutorials incredibly helpful
@Throarbin I have. I'm just that bad lol 💀💀
My first two playthroughs were like this, then I played around for fun! It depends on the person and how much you use the wiki lol
This guy saying wall of fresh instead of wall of flesh makes my blood pressure spike
Bro samee
Why does he?!? Aaggghhhh
1 year, 1 world, 1 year ago
Although I've been following since March, it's still great to be able to watch the entire series in one video.
Yay! This is also the improved version of all of those so, better than going through the playlist

same bro ive been watchin since the beginning and now ima binge it all again
And for us new people, a great watch
Huh
The reason the golfer turns into a furry is because he's canonically the zoologist's brother.
Whatttttttttt
It's a fun little bit of knowledge but I dont think that's the real reason
Why would that not be the reason?@CrispyBorgir
@ttvnoodleboi zoologist got bit by a werewolf and I dont think that's really.. genetic..
@CrispyBorgir ooooh you on to some shit right there ma boy
I think my favorite month has to be November only because you killed the empress 30 times and didn't get the drop you wanted. Good thing you got it in the end though
Yeah...after 51 attempts...ug
@ThroarbinPain...
Massive dent in the prismatic lacewing population
@Throarbin If it helps, the probability of not getting the drop in 50 tries is around 7.7 %, which is quite lucky in itself!
at this point just grab the item you want in a all item world after 10-15 tries

And it's as easy as placing the right torches.
I think the "Glowing block" effect he keep's trying to create, is made by putting gem spark walls behind the blocks you want to glow.
Or using illuminant coating
@edytapizuk1979 That makes the block itself glow, what he was trying to do was create a back glow effect.
Every playthrough:
Craft the Shellphone, Ankh Shield, and Terrasparks.

the thing i like about terraria is that the PC and console versions are pretty much the same unlike minecraft with its java and bedrock editions
yeah because Minecraft in 2025 is a glorified money farm profiting off of young kids
Except sometimes they take FOREVER to port updates in Console Editions. Wish they could add a primitive form of tModLoader in Console Editions as that would be AMAZING. Same with Texture Packs as well as it would be a nice addition.
That's such a weird thing to be the reason you like terraria

The light security area got wooden chests, the main vault got gold chests, and the basement vault got shadow chests. It was a fun build to design. Especially since I put traps on the basement. And I wound up putting the on/off switch inside the vault itself, and used a magic mirror to get out when I was done. Getting back in later was hard, though...
Wall of flesh ❌ wall of fresh ✅
I woulda laughed if he got 2 stellar tunes in a row.
just got paid for a full mornings work just for watching this video. i love working from home
3:20:34 my half asleep brain: he he, cucumber
"I was so exited I whipped it out" is crazy😂
Thank you for feeding my untimely terraria obsession, which happened to fall mid exam season
ah, perfect timing
"I'm fresh out of ideas"
*Still dosent have the stinger necklace*
been following this through my home page not clicking on anything for like two months cus i wanted the full story not snippets. thank you for uploading this
Over Covid I spent a lot of time on terraria and I also did the class hoping thing with the loadouts, I found that switching the hot key to also be the hot bar slot where I put the respective weapon was super helpful. This meant when I switched to the weapon I also switched my load out to optimize it.
It's so cool seeing the quality of the editing and even voice acting change from january to december :D
Bro said wall of fresh
Saw this video and had a very fun time listening and half-watching while doing some house work on the side.
Great storytelling, great summary, nice guitar you have there.
10/10, will come back for more, might even re-watch this one a couple of times. 👍
"I just like stacking crates"
hell yeah
19:56 the meteor armour buff works for the zapinators
43:06 brooo there was a golden bunny nooo
Loved the Series so much!! I've always wanted to know who has been making the thumbnails bc they are absolutely amazing!!
Well, they're ai generated actually. I tried finding an artist but couldn't
@Throarbinwait that’s actually sick
Bit late to the party, but this has been a video I've spent the last week watching.
Honestly, hats off for the accomplishment. Now I'm listening to the Stellar Tune of an outro you've put together.
🎉🎉
Throarbin: “and at the same time..”
Ad: “THE FOLKS GET OFF THE FLOOR!!!!!!”
You taught me that loadouts exist in the first place
38:05 lmao I got the shell phone pre-hardmode on a character I had 55 hours in by the end of hard mode. I also got terraspark and bundle of balloons and horseshoe.
dude i cannot believe that i watched the whole thing. LOVE this so much! congrats on completing this world and journey!!
I saw some parts of this several months back, time flies in a motivated Terraria playthrough ❤
yeah, the year was over before I knew it
WALL OF THE FRESH
I gotta say, one random issue with if you purify mining straight up is that corrupt/crimson/hallow sand can fall into the underworld and sometimes become very annoying. I was missing one block in a large world and had to use tedit to find it. Turns out it was under a large lava pool
what if when you found the sword shrine, you got a terragrim...
that'd be sad
Have I already seen the whole series? Yes, but I’m going to watch it again.
lol, this one does cut the intros and outros, the first 3 months are re-narrated, and there's an extra week that wasn't included in previous videos, so hopefully it's even better, lol
@Throarbin good to know!!! It’s gonna be a great rewatch with all the new stuff!
THIS VIDIO IS FIRE THIS IS MY FRIST TIME SEEING THIS SERIES ITS SO GOOD KEEP UP THE WORK CONGRATS FOR THE PATIENCE I WOULDVE QUIT AFTER 2 MINUTES
2 minutes? lol, that's honestly what I was afraid would happen to me when I started
Unless, of course, I started the dirt garden
@Throarbin hmmmmm
do it@Throarbin
You’ve given me an idea. I might try starting a new run where I immediately set up my main base in the tundra and try to defeat Deerclops as soon as possible, with as close to starting gear as possible, then going through pre-hardmode using all the Deerclops stuff. Could be fun!
58:51 against eater of worlds, they are great
This video is honestly a masterpiece in storytelling.
I've seen a ton of things in here I didn't even know about and is really useful
boooogaloooo of illuuuuuuuuuuuuusionsss
just dont open a wiki
You can do that??? @The_Geni
Just ask the guide
i learned this whole game without the wiki, it's not that hard if you just get the recipe browser mod
Great job man! Can't wait to see more challenges!
45:17 I remember reading about this in the patch notes, the Jungle can't be consumed/corrupted by Hallow, Crimson and Corrupt because it would softlock the world's progression (if the player allows them to consume/corrupt it, something most would in their 1st playthrough), or something like that
33:20 maybe they meant herb farms,
Also in pre-hardmode aside from some accessories you cant get anything, but the fishing ones are cool if you combine them
wth do you sound like ai lol
though nice video, gona be watching it fully soon!
Who else watched it all
That's the point of a video
Congrats on your dedication and time to this! (I can't even play 1 world for 30 hours without making a new one and abandoning the old one)
Yup, that's exactly why I did this long run, lol
so weird, im completely the opposite
ive played terraria occasionally and sometimes less occasionally, for about 3 or 4 years and i've had in total 2 and a half worlds
one of them i put in like 250h or something
@yurilopes420 I think the reason is that everyone has fun in different ways: for me I like progressing and killing bosses for the "first" time other people might enjoy building or 100%ing the game more
1:01:39 sounded like auto tune when he said 3 times😂😂
this was super cool dawg, good on ya 🤙
