What the devil am I doing binge watching HVAC videos? This guy is strangely addicting. Don't know why. Very explanatory in what he does. He makes you interested in his work. I couldn't physically do his job. And the span of his knowledge is something to be admired.
Hello Ted, your the best! When customers love to talk I just stop working and listen. Then they ask me why I stopped, I tell them safety reasons. I'm working with gas and electricity, evaluating situation and you want to talk. The renters are worst, not their money paying for repairs.
Unit looks to be in decent shape for its age. Most of the ones I see are hacked, rusted and hacked again. Thanks for another video. Merry Christmas to you and all your friends and family.
Ted, people tend to helicopter because you have such a soothing and kind voice, and you're interesting. I'd hang around to talk to you if you came to my house. Now if Steve Lav came to my house on a service call, I'd leave the door open and tell him to lock up when he was done!
Clam shell heat exchanger. I used to carry Goodman igniter on my van. They sure went out quite a bit. Is Goodman low quality, sure but parts are readily available and very easy to work on. Now we know how that insulation got in there.....you can hear the chipmunks when the is video fast forwarding. Hahahahahaha I'd check that vent limiter cap ( brass cap ) on the gas regulator. These have a tendency to clog up. 2 tiny little ports in the brass cap. Use a thermostat wire to clear it. I always remove it and verify no junk down in the vent. Great job Ted
My igniter lasted 23 years in my Goodman furnace but that was in Texas where gas furnaces don’t get a real workout. The Goodman factory igniters are better quality than those universal igniters. Just my opinion from experience.
Yeah, my neighbor paid a repair guy $500 to replace the control board in his old 80% Goodman furnace. You should have seen his face when I told him that the furnace probably cost less than $500 when it was new.
More often than not, they don't bite, but there's an easy trick to get them to bite. If you're twisting, and it won't bite, pull the nut straight off, leaving the twisted wires alone. Cut about an 1/8" off from the twisted end, and thread the nut back on. It will bite and tighten right up.
Good job, Ted. Keep those wire nuts, they are made for high heat. Stuff in the tubes may have been from insulation if the heat exchanger was replaced. Thanks for posting.
I tried one of those universal igniters before. It didn’t even last three weeks. I ended up installing a factory igniter and never had any problems after that.
My Goodman igniter went out once and it was replaced with a non original. It didn't last a week. He replaced it again and it went out again. The only thing that worked was the original version No problem since.
burnt red silicone chunks in the heat exchanger tube, I wonder if it was replaced and they got sloppy with it, but possibly came from the factory that way.
Can't stop a Goodman mama. When you were putting the burner box back in, I said is he not going to clean the flame sensor? Well you realized it towards the end that you should have LOL.
Thinking that the vent motor was turned for venting during install Theodore. May want to cover the original top vent hole to stop what ever is trying to nest in that upper cabinet. Just a suggestion, not judging. You and yours have a healthy, happy and safe holiday season. May the new year bring you health and prosperity. Be well stay safe from a 46 year hvac guy in Canada.👍👍🇨🇦
The developing company possibly bought a container load of furnaces in a bulk buy deal. And it took a couple of years to deplete their stocks of new unused furnaces.
I'm not a fan of the glow fly (had some call backs). I personally prefer the hot rod.Just an FYI , pay attention to the model number reference card it comes with to make sure of compatibility.👍🛠.
Model number reference? You can make the hot rod fit anything. You might have to bend a bracket or drill a hole but if its a 120 volt and you have it behind 1st burner, you’re good to go.
@@johnhubbard6262 you won't regret the fieldpiece. You get all the features you need in one unit. I haven't looked at fluke in years, but in the past you had to buy two or three meters to get all of the functions you need to service HVAC equipment.
Sounds like your van has a pulley bearing going bad. Definitely time to remove belt and spin some pulleys or a thermal image with a cold motor. Working at my friends transmission shop couple years back has engraved that sound into my brain. That and the freaking beeps of a bad smoke alarm in someone's house.
17:14 ceramic wire nuts have no insert but they can take the heat a lot better. Skinny wires I do a twist, then fold in half. Wires needs to be stripped long enough for the fold. Yes, they are a pain to work with. But they won't smell like melted plastic if near heat.
Why would you recommend a new one. It's still running good by the looks of it. I have been working on some since 1983 and still running great. Don't be one of those that charges for a new one just to rob them.

nice job you are cool calm and collective when you work and enjoy your videos

no point of having cheaper, more available parts that are easier to change if the unit breaks down more.
Wow that furnace brings back memories.. the old Junkatrol.. put alot of thoes in back in my younger years.. mouse nest was an added feature..
Goodman: keeps on ticking! This furnace cost around 300 bucks back in 1999, how can you go wrong?! Nice work as usual sir!
Yeah, my neighbor paid a repair guy $500 to replace the control board in his old 80% Goodman furnace. You should have seen his face when I told him that the furnace probably cost less than $500 when it was new.
Those are ceramic high temp. They screw on and tighten just fine. I used them when I was using high temp wire with silicon jacket.

Nice comradery with client . I never minded if they came around to watch or chat ... Good vid as usual Cowboy Ted 👍👍👍🎅🤶🎄🕎

Yeah, those universal igniters aren’t worth a damn. I will only use Goodman igniters after getting burned by Robertshaw.
@@picklerix6162 have you tried silicon nitride igniters?
They called the professional, good job Ted, and Merry Christmas.
My wife used to hate doing my work pants, always finding wire nuts, and self tapping screws in the dryer!
I worked on a 28 year old goodman furnace with a 13 year old goodman a/c. Old stuff. The condenser just needed a fan cap was all.
Good job of making do with what you have available at the moment. Merry Christmas 🎁
I don't know if you noticed but there was a used tube of heat prof silicone under furnace . Somebody was ahead of you .
Hello from the great state of Michigan
Hello from Crazy California

Ted thank you for the videos and I hope you have a great Christmas.
The developing company possibly bought a container load of furnaces in a bulk buy deal. And it took a couple of years to deplete their stocks of new unused furnaces.
They put those old goodman furnaces together with that red foam gasket material.
considering goodman parts are not existent at supply houses, having to order all parts online
Wow
That was a great fix.
I bet you he didn't want to replace that.
He might in 20 years from now.🤔🤣✌
Yes and the. tube of sealant is under the furnace.
Grate work sirr!💯💪🏽
A respectful helicopter doesn't seem like a problem. I can imagine service techs hoping for generally pleasant calls like this one.
Nothing like only needing an igniter then trying to up sell them. Just because they are old doesn’t mean they need a new one

Yes sir......always clean the flame sensor...always
Could the insulation you picked out have been blown in there when the insulation was blown into the attic vs being dragged in by a mouse/rat?
That was way too localized and if that was the case there would have been some all over the attic
there was mouse droppings mixed in with it and some laying on bottom still.
Hey Ted ! Why replaced when is working fine ! My same furnace have 30 years n still fire up . Merry Christmas 🎅🏻👋
use wax candle light on that belt... when reving... stops that belt making noise
Which fieldpiece meter is that? does it do milliamps? Love your videos
Nevermind caught it at 6:26, need to replace an old fluke here

You must have heard me, Ted. I saying, while you have the burner assembly out, clean the flame sensor.
Cowboy, thanks for sharing the video !
And you love Miss Molly

If you were to put a new one in >>>>>>do you have a Helper? or is it a one man job?
Too many spare holes in the sheet metal cabinet allows the rats/mice entry. Good repair Ted.
Why not roll up a $100 bill and use it as a "crevice" tool for your vacuum?
You can't stop a Goodman! "Igniter's bad, time for a new system" ;-) Happy Holidays Everybody!
Yeah, the Goodman is running okay but you can afford an overpriced Trane.
It sounded like around the 2:05 someone farted, passed gas,had an explosion between the thighs, tooted
That was the sound of a leaking gas valve. Most valves do that as they age.
No door switch, the economy contracter grade furnace?
Looks like Mickey (mouse) has been trying to make a nice warm home for himself.
Ted, what is the phone you are using to record your videos on? It looks like an iPhone…
Those wire nuts are for high temp
You can't stop a Goodman!🤣🤣😂😂
Thanks again for the videos!

That red stuff looked to me like Fire Caulk
Tyler tx. Goodman must be built by train I live about 50 miles south.
Hello Ted the armchair warrior is here does ceramic high temp wire nuts never have metal Insert
Looks like fire caulk
Nice homeowner
Nice job.
Another great video #AwesomeTed
Great video...
Thank.you sir.
Micky Mouse and His Friends had a party in their.
Take all the phone calls you want!
Critters do strange things. Seen stuff like that many a time.
That looks like hi temp orange silicone
did I hear that correctly @ 2:05?
Hantavirus, don't touch or breath mouse or rat droppings.
Not real common where Ted is working. Hantavirus is more common in the western states for some reason.
Yep you should have. Oh, well next time.
Good case for yearly maintenance 🤣
as the "last guy" touching the furnace, why did you not install a door switch?
Goodman door switches are incredibly cheap. In fact, that was the first part to fail in my old Goodman furnace.
👍
nice
Looks like an 80v igniter was installed where a 120v was needed
Little furnace. Two burners.
time 4 new
Yup... more blown in. Stuff SHOULD be outlawed and contractors who sell it should be hanged!
If in doubt rip it out!
Seems to be today's world.
Why all the fast forwarding? Your commentary make the video!
If I had to guess, privacy concerns for the homeowner.
Probably some pricing options were discussed.
