I work with Anhydrous Ammonia daily. Industrial refrigeration setting. “Anhydrous” is Latin for “without water.” Yes, NH3 does have an extreme affinity for water. It is detectable by nose around 5 parts per million (ppm). At 25 ppm you are at half of the OSHA permissible exposure limit! At this level it will cause irritation. 350ppm is the (IDLH) “immediately dangerous to life and health.” If there is a visible cloud of ammonia it is well over 48,000 ppm. It will kill you quicker than Richard Ramirez. This is some wicked shit… please stay safe folks

Anhydrous means without water and nearly pure ammonia. AT minus 28 degrees transporting in tanks it is deadly and draws water from the body and will cause burns, freeze and swell the larynx shut in seconds. This results in death situation in seconds.

I was exposed working in a warehouse. We worked for maybe 20 min, then my boss told us to stop unpacking stuff. Someone was coughing 10 min...I had a mask thank God. I just hope we're going to be ok. I told my friends to flush their eyes with water and wash their hands. Any other remedies to this sh**?
