Great pick up. I really enjoyed this video. It's so interesting watching modern guys dabble in vintage. Comping vintage cards is a completely different ball game. You can never go wrong grabbing Babe Ruth cards
you can tell that gentleman at the end has been doing this a while. He took that stack of cash without even a little excitement haha. I would lose it.

Honestly, a part of me would rather have the lesser of the 2. That bubble above his hand really takes it away from me. That was all my eye could focus on. Also, if you find the last Ruth but only in an SGC slab, pick it up and cross it over. Easy way to complete the collection at a much lesser cost.

It’s crazy to hand someone over a piece of paper with a picture on it, incased in plastic for 16k.
I wonder how much security there is in and around an event like this. People are walking around with bags containing thousands of dollars in cards and cash.

Yeah man good luck trying to negotiate down on any significant vintage card. Doesn't matter what the "market is on them". Those dudes won't want to budge much on their prices, period. Gotta premium up if you want it.
I personally like the 15K Ruth. Overall eye appeal was nicer. On vintage lower to mid grade cards I would rather have even wear on all four corners than have three nice corners and one creased corner. The creased corner just pops out. Also the 17k Ruth looked like it had some kind of bubble right in the middle that was a bit distracting. Just my opinion. Nice card though

Yea only a fool is holding super expensive cards now lol. The last few years is when to sell. Down the road a lot of these cards will be down a fortune I wouldn't want to be holding them long term lol

Growing up in the 80's, I thought that when I became a working adult, I'd be able to buy any card out there. But since then all the card values have gone up an extra 0 or two at the end (like $1500 cards becoming $15000). Still can't afford them.

The nationals was soooo freaking big, me and my buddies would always forget where we saw a certain card. After a day or so into the show, we realized there were numbers hanging up in the ceiling so you know where you were at(like isle 300, 400 or 1100....etc).
To really complete the run of 1933 Goudey Ruths, you also need the 1933 Goudey Sport Kings #2. Good luck in the chase!
I really hope your kiddos know and appreciate how good they have it. That kind of money available to them and spent on them. When I was growing up we couldn't even afford new shoes let alone thousand dollar cards and extravagant card shows. Lucky guy! Nice Bambino!

The 1st seven seconds of this video pretty much sums up this years national. Just add no parking and $80 for internet and you have the 2022 national. Also add walking around in the ghetto with all the cash and cards you brought to get to the convention center.
Also add nowhere to sit and most people smelled like trash. Great show

When I went to the nationals last year they gave me a floor plan of all the table numbers listed in the exact layout of the overall setup which I thought was great. This would essentially be my floor map. I used a pen to mark my path along the route that I walked to systematically walk through it vs randomly walk around. If there was a card of interest, I circled the booth table number on the sheet and the name of the card on the back of the sheet. It took me a good 2 full days to cover the entire area.

Am I the only one that noticed a PSA 4 sold for $10k at an even more recent time than the $15.6k PSA 2 did? Huge mistake he made by only comparing prices of comps from same grade :(
There may have been a Miscut or Offcentered grade modifier on the PSA 4.

I just went to Houston card show and got all Dameon Pierce rpa 1/1 signed all on card auto with gold ink. The cards look incredible. How much you think it’s worth? Absolute 1/1 rpa , shield absolute 1/1 I got it signed.
Geoff, if you like that mark on the left side of that Babe Ruth Congrats I would not have picked up that card, I would have spent more on a 3 with better eye appeal, sorry just what I see,and yes I would be Divorced if I told my Wife what I paid for a single card even a 33 Goudey Babe Ruth that bubble would really bother me,thanks for all the Content you provided at the National this week, safe travels going home.
Don’t get this rational. Upselling grades cause they “look more like another grade” if that’s the case, I’m selling all my PSA 9’s as 10’s from now on. How can we have consistency in the market if this is how we’re setting prices? Also what’s the point of even grading?

@@zackneskov2006 oh yea the market was wayy over inflated most cards will drop a fortune over time. People say "buy the dip" but this isnt the stock market most cards will continue going down for along time most likely.
@@sarahandbrettSCAM ican see that. the problem i saw was people paying 10-40k for a rookie when you can get a lebron refractor rookie 1/25 for 20k and he is gonna be the goat of all sports ever. so i dont see much room for the prices to go up. not including this is JUNK WAX ERA 2.0. insane pint runs and EVERYONE started colecting that arent collectors that will dump everything eventually

I do not have the level of cards you do. Don't you get nervous walking around with those caliber of cards? You should do a show on how to be safe at shows, especially after leaving the secure area of the show. A lot of people walking around with a lot of cards.

Geoff, I really enjoyed this video the most from your channel. It captured the pure fun of the National. The end segment with your son Reaves and his friend really resonated with me. I remember being a tad older than Reaves when I attended the 1991 National in Anaheim, and had the same fun and chemistry with a friend as displayed by Reaves and his friend. (I think you and I may be around the same age.) Seeing that end scene brought immediate flashbacks to the 1991 show and moments with my friend with whom I have not seen in years.
I was worried that you would miss out on the Babe Ruth card when you came back for it. One of the worst feelings at a convention is when you come back for something later and it gets swooped on by another collector. Glad you got #3 of the four Ruths. Hope you get #4 in your next video. Thank you for posting this video. Great content.
