That's awesome. I can only imagine. Love the early Deep Purple. I was 13 years old on my paper route and stopped into a drugstore to look at the tape cassette rack. "Book of Taliesyn" caught my eye. I vaguely knew of Deep Purple from older kids talking about Smoke on the Water. I grabbed "Book of Taliesyn" and fell in love with that album. Still my favorite today.
Great story Ian, I love listening to your reminisces. I'm a bass player from Ireland and I too can remember some crazy times on the road in the 1970s. My strongest playing influences comes from Roger Glover and my favourite album of all time, which turned me on to playing in a band, was 'Deep Purple in Rock'.
I don't think there's another channel on RUclips that I look forward getting notifications of "new videos" more than yours. I hope you can understand and realize just how great this is to be able to hear these stories and your view point for the generations of us who didn't grow up with the same opportunities or music scenes that shaped who you've become as a musician and a person. My grandfather served in WWII and your videos and stories, while different, capture my interest and wonder in the same way and I'm grateful that you've decided to capture them on video/audio for future generations to come. Cheers Ian!
Guys,I feel inside the story.....the big pitture ( 28 x 38 ) of “ The Maze “, I gave it to my friend IAN PAICE. The original foto is mine, given to me by ROD EVANS in 1967 in Milan Italy , Thanks Ian.💜
Chief, Please keep the stories coming. I'm anxiously awaiting the Montreaux Casino and recording "Machine Head" tales. Also, Please have a pint for us and we'll have a pint or more for you. LOL :)
Thank you so much, Mr. Paice!! How would I like, and I think there are many in today's music world too, when you'd bring here some episode from every year in your career at least until 1973... (Perhaps more is too much of a good thing). I don’t really know of any musician from those "golden times", except for Robert Plant, who would do the same as you do today with your storytelling. Those were the days that formed ROCK music and breathed life into it. Please keep on goin', Mr. Grooveman!
Great Story, I can understand that you will never forget. Es muss eine tolle Zeit gewesen sein. Danke für die Erzählung! Thanks for telling to us. Best regards, Stephan
I could listen to you for _hours_ Ian - thank you for sharing your stories! I love Hamburg, lived there for a while and have many happy memories - none as fun as yours though :)
You got to be into it to be out of it, You got to be out of it to be into it (frank zappa) love tales from the bar Ian, Cheers to you my favourite drummer/musician, Rock Forever !!
Hi Ian, can you take some words about recording of the Fireball album escpecially the song Fools? I mean the Blackmore´s guitar and tambourine. It was a reveleation when I was listened for the first tim when I was 14.
Ian Paice,ha un grande rispetto per i suoi inizi con The Maze,e custodisce i ricordi della sua permanenza a Milano.È veramente una persona umile e sensibile, nonostante la grande carriera !
Dear Mr. Paice, I‘m from Hamburg. If you want to visit our nice city again after the covid pandemia, give me a call. Just kidding (or not :-) ... I believe you still have some old friends here...Cheers Michael
I was helplessly driven to be a drum enthusiast at the age of 8, when my older brother came home with Machine Head. Some thirty years ago, playing around alone in an overrentet shithole, trying to sound good, some guy opened the door, stuck his head in and said ´you been listening to Ian Paice havent you?´.
No matter what they say nowadays about Gary Glitter (Glitter Band), way back in glam-rock times he was up there with Slade, Sweet, Middle of the Road, T Rex, Mott The Hoople, Alice Cooper, Suzi Quatro, Bowie.....good times to be a teenager. Nice Hamburg story though.
mr paice could you ever explain briefly the reason for your really really huge sizes on the ludwig kit you used from 1972 up to 1975 with the 16 inch top tom? and later on i believe you got a super custom kit from ludwig with a 26 x 18 bass drum.
Interesting that You Ian mentioned Gary Glitter! Small story fot You Sir! In 1972 Queen did two covers in which Freddie Mercury took a name Larry Lurex and it was a reference to a Gary Glitter!!!))) And what Sir Ian You think of Roger Taylor? Do You know him?
Where or how did you find replacement gear if there was a problem? By that I mean you fellows must have really gone through sticks, strings and such. All that playing would be one way to find out if your gear was up to it. Great stories. Thank you.
The mental picture of an angry, inebriated Gary Glitter launching himself off the stage onto an empty dance floor is priceless. Had me laughing out loud. Great story! Are you still in touch with the guys from your band?
I believe that Brian Adams once enjoyed a pint of.... shall we say recycled beer.. He was chatting up a bird at dinner and everyone on the large table added to it!! I know this because I know one of the contributors to that pint!!! Yuk!!
This was such a pleasure to listen! You are a great storyteller, dear Mr. Paice!
I could listen to him all day. What a wonderful raconteur, a consummate entertainer and a world class musician!
I have to say that mr. Paice totally deserves all the fortune, career and success - just listen, how hard he worked in the beginnings!

Same here, listened to my father's cassette of that great album million times as a kid. Unfairly forgotten mostly.

That gave me a great Tuesday night giggle.

The only thing that would make these tales better would be listening to them whilst sat on one of the stools at your bar!
Great stories!

Like the Canadian Club in the background.

Nice Hamburg story though.
Ritchie Blackmore was on the Hamburg gig with another band?
Grande Ian!!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍
You are a reason I play the drums
If I’m not mistaken, there is a recording of Ian singing with Gary Moore in the medley of the song Rockin’ And Rollin’ in the album “We Want Moore”.
That was Jimmy Nail, actor/singer. Pretty sure Ian just played as usual.
mr paice could you ever explain briefly the reason for your really really huge sizes on the ludwig kit you used from 1972 up to 1975 with the 16 inch top tom? and later on i believe you got a super custom kit from ludwig with a 26 x 18 bass drum.

"... well this went on for a couple of nights" - HILARIOUS. The punishment we put our bodies through in our twenties (especially on the road)

Why did the band change its name from M15 to Maze.
The mental picture of an angry, inebriated Gary Glitter launching himself off the stage onto an empty dance floor is priceless. Had me laughing out loud. Great story! Are you still in touch with the guys from your band?
Purple ceased to exist in 1993 when fabulous Blackmore left the band!!!

That is hilarious, Rob!! Thankfully, I've never had recycled beer. I had a Coors Light once, that was close enough for me...
@@blackmore7777fan Hahahahaha!!!
Warsteiner rules! :-)
Yawn, yawn! Is that band still alive and kicking? No, it ain't!
