Hey guys, great video and really good points raised! The forum style works really well I think.
I wanted to give my thoughts as I actually own both of these watches - The Padi SRPA21 (owned for 3 weeks) and the SRP307J (owned for 6 months), however have had a very different experience from a quality perspective.
My monster's chapter ring doesn't quite line up with the hour marker and the movement runs about +30 secs a day fast.
My Padi also has the issue with the chapter ring not lining up with the hour marker but it doesn't seem as bad as others have experienced. The hour hand also doesn't quite line up with the corresponding hour marker when the minute hand is on the 12 (the hour hand seems to line up when the minute hand is on 55) and the movement runs about -35 secs a day slow.
While I understand that maybe this is all within "spec" it seems online that everyone says that theirs are only running a few secs a day slow or fast which is pretty much chronometer spec and right now I would be very happy to be having this accuracy but am getting a long way from it on either watch! Maybe I just got really unlucky but based on my experiences I can't say that I'm impressed from a quality perspective with Seiko. Interested in others thoughts who own these models?
Personally I prefer the Padi better as I absolutely love that blue dial in the sunlight. I bought the Padi to be the watch that I wear in the water when I go surfing or go out hiking etc. and have put it on a blue and red nato strap which I think is a cool combo!
For the record I bought both from Ebay - my Monster from a large Singapore seller and my Padi from a seller in New York.

It's good to hear that I'm not the only one experiencing some hit-and-miss quality control and as you say this can be explained by the fact that they would make quite a large volume of these watches.
Don't get me wrong, I can live with some minor imperfections but just feel online that there's this image of any Seiko being absolutely perfect and everyone seeming to get COSC accuracy from their watches which is far from my experience. Having said that, my PADI seems to have improved slightly from -35sec per day to closer to -25sec per day. Wonder if this is the "settling in" for a Seiko movement that I've seen online or if it's just a myth?
Despite all of this I really like my PADI. That blue dial in the sunlight is just amazing! I own high-end pieces and they are very accurate (for example my Rolex GMT Master ll Ceramic 116710 is +2sec p/d and everything lines up to perfection) so I didn't have those expectations of my Seiko, so I guess I just need to accept and move on as I bought this as my beach/surfing watch and it'll do that nicely! I'll give it a few months and will look to get it regulated to hopefully a better accuracy rate.
Keep up the good work, loving the content you guys are putting out!

I'm a little late to the comments since I just discovered this great channel, but I own nearly all the affordable Seiko divers from the SKX to the Tuna. The Dracula Monster was my gateway drug into this fun world of Seikos and I didn't have any alignment issues on it or an Orange version I bought a little later. Now, my SKX007 has a chapter ring alignment problem, and the six o'clock index on my Turtle is off by about 1mm. Sumo and Tuna are spot-on, though.
Dracula Monster ran +8 seconds a day before I gave it to my son and don't know how it's doing now. My Orange Monster was about +30 seconds a day, though and I ended up killing it by dropping it onto a tile floor one too many times. It's a shame as I generally liked the watch but Gen 2 Monsters appear to be out of production and prices for New Old Stock are insane.
Oh, if I had to choose -- I would take the Turtle over the Monster. It's more comfortable on my wrist, has a less polarizing design (the Monster's thicker bezel has not aged well to my aesthetic), and keeps a little better time (-4 seconds a day).

I just bought the SRP-313J1. It came with the wave rubber band. I ordered that Monster band from Amazon and it improved the watch immensely.

Hi guys. I'm just wondering why the 2nd gen monster you're using in this video has a prospex "X" logo, while my 2nd gen has no "X" on the dial. All the while, I thought the "X" was only for the 3rd gen monster. Any thoughts on this?

It seems to me the Seiko Cushion cases are a better watch, the weight, the finishes, the way it wears on the wrist. The monsters seem more like beaters to me.

Hi guys. Late to the video. I have both and really depending on the day or the mood either one really works for me. Seiko has such a bang for the buck. Even at the entry level, they are really great. Really enjoy the content and the chemistry. Great work.

Think you guys absolutely nailed this. Does come down to aesthetics. Share your views Patrick about the Pepsi Diver "I wanted". Such a great piece the PADI. My daily warhorse at work, where Day/Date, Reliability and a pop of colour really ticks every box.

Great comparison, guys! I own a Rolex Submariner, but I am seriously considering picking up one of these two pieces as a beater. Right now I'm leaning more towards the Monster, but man, that limited edition green version of the Turtle sure is tempting too. Loved to hear your thoughts on both. I must say, it's hard to believe your channel is so new. You both are naturals in front of the camera. Props to you! -Brandon

Definitely agree with the Turtle over the SKX. I just picked up my SRP773 and will be putting my SKX007 on Ebay. Just my personal preference, the 007 served me well.

Seiko's 4r36 movement is hit and miss for me too. I Have 3 watches varying from +14s per day to -4s per week.

My issue is you didn't really discuss which one is better. Your contention that "both are fine" is somehow unsatisfying. I could figure that out myself. (I own both) The production value of your video is tiring. One word...script! Too much of an unfocused ramble. The sound quality is really poor. The lighting is poor. The camera work is poor. Editing is OK. You both seem like nice, knowledgeable guys but you really have to up your game production-wise.

    • @cmac8382

Sorry they cant get the fuckin Cohen brothers to do their videos. I think its fine and adds a realism to it. Overproduction in videos on here is annoying. I come for the material itself and that's on point.

I think you've been unlucky with your endlinks on the Turtle..I have no play in mine, mine has a very tight snug flush fit....I also have a Monster both great watches...I like the Monsters best..Yeah the 3rd gen Monster has the 6R15 in it...and my 6R15 is more accurate than my 4R36...I'll watch the rest of your vids now..

Clock Stock & Barrel would definitely like to learn more about it. I had to do a little research on the 9012 movement to conparr with the movement in the turtle. Maybe, I've been looking in the wrong places cause I haven't found much. The grand touring is a badass piece, and wears smaller on the wrist.
