I want a spin-off series about the Crows only. Constantly overlapping stories with the Shadow and Bone characters just leads to rushing storylines for the other characters.
Frrr the only thing that pisses me off is the fact he let a bad bitch 😩 slip right through his fingers (jk) but seriously get ur woman or else I will 🥴
@@wisdomgozieimade1083 the writers sidelined Alina to make Kaz the main character - and rushed and destroyed her books to force the next step to be the ice heist no matter what
As a fan of the books, I really had to treat Season 2 like fan-fiction. I thought it was rushed and crowded, but still enjoyed it. The cast is really marvelous, and I found the characterization stayed true to the books even while the plot seriously drifted. I'm superhoping either Six of Crows gets its own spinoff, or Season 3 deals extensively with the plot of Six of Crows, since the Crows are my absolute favorite.
I agree and I really hope there will be a third season. Can't shake the feeling that they packed this season just because they are not sure if they get another.
Agreed. I absolutely adore the books and I get that a lot of us book fans are disappointed that certain moments in the books happened earlier than they were supposed to(not to mention this season was pretty crowded), but I'm honestly not super bothered by it. The show and the books are pretty separate. And that should be recognized the moment the Crows became part of season 1. I hope we get our SoC spinoff and everyone's criticisms are def valid, but the show and the books are NOT the same. For better and for worse.
I think Alina turned out to be very selfish. She used Mal as a crutch instead of treating him as an equal. It was selfish to resurrect him. I don't think she really knows what she wants. She's not a very emotionally complex character at all. I appreciated Ben Barne's ability to communicate a plethora of emotions in a matter of seconds.
i wasnt really disspointed with this season, bec even tho a lot was changed they did a great job imo, but the one thing that i really missed was matthias as a part of the crows and on ninas side... like so far weve never seen them as a team of six, and that just feels wrong 😭
@@almightysaitama770 he is more awesome in the books in the books he invented a hot air balloon and he has a flying ship that rainsdowne guns and bombs down on the darkling when he attacked the palace something that was cut out of the show.
My only complaints (nitpicking tbh) was the storyline for the crows were rushed especially the reveal of Jespers ability and kaz's revenge, other than that I liked this season
Well if they gave them even more time - it would pract. become 6 of crows show. 😜 But i guess i get it, both their story (crows) and acting is better than primary cast.
I'm a non-reader, as in I haven't read the books (yet), but I've thoroughly enjoyed both seasons and found nothing exceptionally hard to follow plot-wise. I adore all the characters, especially Kaz, and love the dynamic of the Crows above all else. I swear if Netflix doesn't renew this for at least another season I am absolutely done with them as a company. The amount of online buzz this show and fandom has been generating cannot be ignored.
be prepared to not know wth is going on if you read the books, since the Crows aren't in the original trilogy; I can't even remember if they met Alina, let alone were sent to grab her (I read the S&B trilogy, then Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom, then King of Scars/Rule of Wolves) also, it appears that Mal was made the Dread Pirate Roberts of the Grishaverse and I don't remember that part in the books
I have mixed feelings about this season to be honest. There were episodes I absolutely loved and there were things that made no sense, like Mal and Alina s relationship. And what about killing off the Darkling...I havent read the books yet but hope he returns, Ben Barnes is amazing
what is the problem with Mal & Alina? I know in the books they get married but yes americans destroyed that also because geez is not like they knew each other for their entire lives 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
@@kissofarose100 in the book's their romance was built up it wasn't because he was an amplifier. That fact cane later that mystery that search. Came later in the third book and it had nothing to do. There was nothing special be on that they knew their love was real it wasn't fake. It wasn't because of mouse amplification the only benefit of his. Being an amplifier was he was a good tracker Alina got nothing from it. Mel had to die in order for Alena to get something from it.
I normally hate most resurrections but I really want to see Aleksander return. (Mainly because I just love a Ben Barnes. Lol) It would be interesting seeing them work together(albeit reluctantly for Alina).
Just a correction about jurda and jurda parem from the SoC book- jurda (the plant) grows in Novyi Zem (not the Shadow Fold) in abundance and is exported to the rest of the world, so in Shu Han an Alkemi order Grisha named Bo Yul-Bayur accidentaly created the jurda parem drug (there's a reason why he did it, but I don't want to spoil too much) and then the Fjerdans kidnapped him because they want the drug to control and torture Grishas... Vladim had nothing to do with creation of it, he actually made a powdered amplifier from Baghra's liitle finger (one of Baghra's powers is that she is an amplifier herself and when she touches a Grisha, their powers become stronger, Darkling had the same power)
Also, who is Kesh? I’ve listened to the audiobooks of Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom multiple times and mever heard that name once… I liked seeing the books made into film but it’s not the same story or characters. Can’t have your cake and eat it too, I suppose
@@elcar659 so his son kuwei could use it to suppress his grisha powers and be able to hide from the shu government in plain sight… it didn’t work like he intended
Only let down was seeing how soon Mal wanted to run away from Alina after being almost separated forever. Just weird, a normal couple after all that anguish and terror wouldn’t let each other out of sight after going through something like that, definitely not run away to adventure.
I think it might be because Mal could feel that there’d been something wrong as to how Alina was able to bring him back. It was made clear in the scene that Alina used Merzost to bring him back to life, and the immediate reaction from Mal’s face was a little off and seemed somehow he knew the consequences of what she had done.
He can't feel their connection anymore because he isn't an amplifier now, so he doesn't know if his feelings were ever true. He needs to have his own life and see if there love is true or manipulated, makes sense. He needs his own life
Edit: That part I wrote about S3 aged like milk... This season felt like a major step down from Season 1 in my opinion. Kirigan went from feeling like a complex, real person who's become a villain to feeling like a mustache twirling, cartoonish bad guy. It's through no fault of Ben Barnes, it's just apparent that the writing was lacking in comparison to season 1. That said, I absolutely adored everything with The Crows. Nikolai was a very welcome addition to the show as well. The actors are all fantastic. Here's hoping Season 3's writing lives up to the cast's potential.
The fault was purely on the script. The writers full heartedly admitted they wanted to destroy his character completely. They wanted to remove all nuance and complexity to destroy him. Christina Strain even went so far as to vindictively try to destroy his backstory - demon in the Wood. She happily wanted to invalidate his trauma. Imagine if one of the riders had admitted they wanted to remove Kaz’s trauma and make him French kiss a random person…..same kind of wtf? Major disrespect for the character and half the fan base.
@@melchiorlise2466 in the books he was a lot more terrifying because he was cold calculating and smart his emotional outbursts of rage were kept at Bay and minimal cuz he can't control over. his emotions like I normal person would who is cold and calculating he has three hundred years of. Alina like a literal video camera so he could plan an attack on the castle and he won he succeeded he beat Nikolai. He gave the sense of hopelessness because he was always five steps ahead because he had so much World experience.
Thank God it was canceled. I don’t know if you saw but Christina strain was bragging on social media about how much she was going to destroy this character even more. Somehow they charge for fighting demons in the word and she was going to use it to invalidate the entire backstory, invalidate his trauma, I just turned him into a flat caricature. Combine that with the show runners bashing the character in interviews and using phrases that book mouth to describe him instead, yeah thank goodness it’s done
The Crows outshined everyone this season, the angst between Kaz and Inej ❤️🔥. I loved that they incorporated Shu han early on, and we're gonna see Ice court heist with Jurda parem involved in the next season. I missed some scenes from the books like the whole firebird hunting scene, and also how Aleksander and Alina having a heartfelt moment as he dies where he asks her to remember him by his true name, there hasn't been any interaction between Zoya and Nikolai, and yes I need our Demon King but he better not look like a nichevoya!! They completely killed Fedyor this season 🤣, and Tolya definitely has a crush on Inej. It was a good season and I e joyed it but yes, really looking forward to next season
the bee at the funeral. He asking to bei burnt so nothing ist keft of him ... maybe because He would come Back? they waited to long and know He is a been😅😂
Amen! I need Ben Barnes back, he was it for me in this show, the reason why I watched it, and I love the Darkling. If he's not back, I ain't gonna watch it sorry, not sorry.
My theory is that I think alina has both powers now since countless times shows have shown darkness ,and light need to both co exist plus in the book alina did get some dark powers# sorry for spoilers.
My favorite ships are under threat! I need to calm myself. This season was so cramped, yet still enjoyable. Love the chemistry between the actors! Excited for next season!
Light and Darkness always need each other bc one can't exist without the other. Even Sailor Moon had to accept - that the universe could never exist without both light and dark.
I loved the casting of Wylan, he's the cutest thing ever. I've never read the books but I felt betrayed. Why would my guy Kirigan had to die so Alina to become evil anyway? And she's not even with Mal. The dude smelled the freedom and decided to flee right away. She and Kirigan could actually be great couple. Now, when she is as powerful as him, they could've been the perfect balance.
yup he became like darkling - he has lived 400 yrs he knew it would eventually come, as a cost of her naivety, unlike kirigan - the cost of his idealistic utilitarian of saving grisha. different motivation but sadly merzost doesn’t care 😂
I haven’t read the books but I think Shadow and Bone is a great series and definitely worth bingeing. Casting was great, acting on point, and the writing was satisfactory. I definitely enjoyed all the twist and turns during the entire series. It’s such a shame Netflix discontinued it. I think they should rethink their decision and reconsider having atleast 4 seasons. So much wasted potential if ever.
I read the second book and actually think they did a good job adapting it, not everything is going to be exact. The biggest let down was in the book everyone revered the sun summoner a lot more, in the show there was only one scene of them blocking the bazaar street to let them escape. It should have had that reverence with everyone she came across like the book.
Be managed to completely destroy the story with in the matter of season 2 that is a momentous accomplishment destroying an entire story a series of books with in the matter of two seasons and eight episodes I'm impressed on how dumb these writers are
@@almightysaitama770 not only does he get his revenge he was able to find a Lena within the first. Chapter within the boat showing how much I thought uncle and intelligent and scary he is. I just don’t get how those three are supposed to show up because they’re supposed be trapped in the fold but the fold isn’t there anymore. What’s the point of Yuri
No he won’t. (1) Ben said he was done playing the villain. And good because those showrunners did everything to ruin his charcter Ben deserved better. (2) Leigh bardugo said that jurda parem and the Darkling cannot co-exist
Oh don't worry he'll be back because in the spin-off series of Nikolai spoilers he comes fucking back because some God shows up a woman a dragon in a bird shows up and bring them the fuck back even though his body was burned

This never happened in the books. Thankfully the series was canceled so we will not get to see the writers attack and destroy the character like they did in season two. Recently, one writer even stated how she was out to destroy Darkling‘s characterization backstory and any complexity about him. It’s sad.
@@kayw9235 I hope it never gets used or shown again. A tacky Star Wars rip off. And the show runners and writers have made their hatred for this character well-known. Recently, Christina strain even admitted on Twitter that she was out to destroy this character his complexity and even his backstory. She wanted to invalidate his trauma as well, just turned him into a mustache twirling flat caricature
Update: not only did the writers shaft him, they went on multiple interviews to slander the character and spit on the fan base. Not satisfied with that, the producers hired an anti from Tiktok -who was well known for orchestrating “Slander Sundays” against not just his character but also the actor himself - TO BE THE HOST OF THE PREMIER. Ben Barnes had to awkwardly and uncomfortably reply that he knew who she was… And if that wasn’t enough, the showrunners gave one of the biggest anti and darkling haters the opportunity to write his backstory of Demon in the Wood. After they made sure to invalidate the entirety of DitW in s2 with the Baghra finger scenes. They mocked and invalidated DitW…
I wanted more of Mathias and Nina instead of Mal and Alina. Alina became more interesting but Mal? Well, chewing cardboard would be more interesting than Mal. Overall I love the season. My favourite was the fight against the darkling's minions.
Good thing it got cancelled since Eric Heisserer and Christina strain kept talking about wanting to do more with Mal in s3 and onwards…. No mention of Alina. They only cared about the crows and their new ooc version of mal. Malina caused the cancellation - i and several others skipped his parts
@@jeremyheartriter2.063 Yep. 100% cancelled. Stat nerds had predicted possible cancellation ever since the end of the first month. It was officially cancelled in October or November. Honestly? We dodged a bullet. One of the writers “joked” about making Inej be in a relationship with Tolya and another writer bragged about ruining the trilogy charcters. It was just as bad as the Witcher’s writers room
Lol, same I remembered I exclaimed so loud like 😮 my mum asking me what was going on ?? And I replied "nothing, sorry it's just a TV show 😂" With this such strong dichotomy writers imposed on season 2 about Darkling and Alina, I didn't expect they will turned Alina like the Darkling. Very curious to see how all of this will be explained in season 3.
I read the first book before the first season was released and I didn't like the book but loved the series. I didn't read sequels because of that (the show is a better version of bookwith more content, I thought), went straight to season 2 and I liked what I saw. But then I heard that second season cut a lot, and now I want to read the books. So I have an interesting relationship with this frinchise.
While the trilogy of the series is the least liked of the Grishaverse, it's still a good trilogy. Six of Crows might be more of your cup of tea, but if you're completionist like me lol, you might want to read them chronologically. A lot of the events in the second season do not happen in the books. Only certain parts, scenes and some lines.
This season crammed up 3 books in 8 episodes.. I can tell you there are so many scenes, battles and storylines that didn't get in and are worth checking out in my opinion. Everyone usually agrees that the crows' books are better than Alina's so if one day you start book 2 and don't like it enough, give a chance to the Six of Crows duology because that one is worth it
i just read the shadow and bone trilogy in a week before s2 came out. the tv series omitted a lot of what happens in the books, and altered several plot scenes as well, but the series s2 ending were infinitely better than the book triology ending. I also really really like how they skipped several alina vs darkling battles as it got way too redundant in the books (that was my main problem with the trilogy) instead , they saved their confrontation at the end. the tv series may have failed at building up tensions for the twists, but still imo, the s2 ran far enjoyable than the trilogy bc the writers knew what was wrong with the shadow and bone trilogy. the mal/alina/darkling storyline were lacklauster and the amplifiers plot lines were just 'there'. the crows made the s1 and s2 far more enjoyable than they are. the writers knew that shadow and bone without the crows and more on alina/mal/darkling wouldnt survive for one season.
I thought the Shadow and Bone trilogy was really boring, just stereotypical YA fantasy with Alina being a very clear self-insert character. I suffered through all three books before reading Six of Crows duology, which I can easily say is one of my favorite book series of all time. I think the show is way more interesting than the books for the Alina storyline, so I honestly don't recommend reading it. Alina as a character is way more interesting in the show, and Mal in the books is straight up insufferable, whereas he is also great in the show. I think it made sense for them to cut a lot from that trilogy because they were very slow paced and Sturmhond/Nikolai was probably the only interesting part of it. I think that there is a good argument that the pacing of this season was really fast considering they covered two books plus the Crows storyline in only eight episodes, but I think the solution to that would have been more character moments/development, not including more from the books.
I wasn't a big fan of the actress playing Alina. She doesn't possess complex emotions and she doesn't have any graceful vulnerability that balances out her strong will. I don't know why Nicolai is attracted to her. Ben Barnes and the crows really carried the show. The editing was marvelous as well.
Looks like Mal was just a means to an end all along as a firebird drawn to Alina. His bloodline kept alive by dark magic - twice! I can understand from his pov, now reborn without tracking abilities whether his connection with Alina was even real. Everything Alex has said to Alina is starting to unfold. She denies it because she hasn't got hindsight of 100's of years of the politics and Grisha suffering. She has now dabbled in Merzost and she doesn't know at what cost. I believe she is entering a darker arc. Alina will realise she needs Alex in the future - not the royal family to find her balance. Alex may have redemption arc by helping her after his 'resurrection'.
Politics? Complexity? We had that in s1 but definitely not in s2. The writers full heartedly admitted they wanted to destroy Darkling’s character completely. They wanted to remove all nuance and complexity to simply destroy him. Christina Strain even went so far as to vindictively try to twist his backstory - demon in the Wood. She happily wanted to invalidate his trauma. Imagine if one of the writers had admitted they wanted to remove Kaz’s trauma and make him French kiss a random person in an orgy…..same kind of wtf? Major disrespect for the character and half the fan base.
I'm ngl this show reminds me of avatar the last airbender alot, aleena is the avatar who can stop all the war but instead of all four elements its light magic, the fold is basically the fire nation attacking everything in its path, Alexander is basically the fire lord lol
I love Nina and Matthias! I hope they have their HEA. I like Nikoli and I kinda love the triangle between him, Alina and Mal. He would also be a good match for Alina.
I was wondering for Mal, was he reborn without the tracking abilities or can he not feel it because her magic/abilities are dark now. As in she is no longer a sun summoner but has darkness.
Yeah how about no the whole reason why you adapt a show is because obviously people loved the books they wanted the books adapted onto the screen but to change everything and literally get rid of the main plot of the show within a matter of season 2 1/8 episodes is a WTF. They change people's characters change their motivation. they just change and change and change for no reason. Oh there is a reason is because every fantasy show has to be game of thrones. Ever since that goddamn show by George Martin everything has to be game of thrones. People obviously loved the books and wanted to see the show. And that's what I expect when you're adapting a book series. I expect the book series just on the big screen not anything and everything you put into the show just because. Reasons change people's motivations change people's characters change people's position within the story just because I say so. I didn't sign up for your fanfic Mickey mouse bulshit I came for the books. I came for you to adapt the books onto the big screen not your fanfiction.

As someone who loves the books I have mixed feelings. I absolutely loved this season and hope for another season (please, all of you, binge watch it so Netflix does not cancel it!) but only if I watch it as an independent story and not as an book adaption I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO ZOYALAI
LOVED Jespar and Wylan!! Definitely my favorites this season. I could just watch an entire show of them having a happy life and sharing many adventures together. Also, Genyas storyline was so tragic, it was hard to watch, but also very gripping. Only person who made me cry this season was her
as I have never read the books, I loved this show more than I was thinking I would. The acting and cast were good. I am looking forward to the next season!
Didn't even hear of the books, but I love the series, watched twice already just to pick up on background reactions, which are really fun. And the fact that the writer is billed first as a producer gives me the impression that it's a chance for her to reimagine her work and make the grishaverse more connected through blending together storylines and characters.
They’re never gonna let this girl win 💀. S1- she didn’t know she was a summoner. S2- she was trying to get strong enough all season. S3- she’s gonna struggle finding balance in her power. Leave Ravka alone man- let them have 1 good reign 😭
But also 2 things could happen in the same time I hope she will be a good ruler, but I think ppl will fear her, even be terrorized a bit like the Darkling. But agreed 100% if she's just a bad ruler I will be so disappointed.
How is that Grisha at the end who kills everyone from Fyerden if they hate Grisha and hunt them? Why would she be fighting for the people who hate her?
She’s not willingly doing it. The fjerdans take Grisha and the ones that they don’t execute are turned into slaves or lab rats. She was experimented on. And is on a highly addictive drug. To get more, she has to obey the fjerdans.
This show could be so much better. The story and world is so interesting but the acting and writing feels meh. I don't take Alina and Mals relationship seriously and the story was SO rushed. So many things didn't really feel earned. The ending left me interested for season 3.
Alina's makeup kinda changed too.. previously it made her look like a child, someone full of hope.. at the coronation, she still looks happy, but her vibes (?), the air around her, kinda seems like that of the darkling..
Alina is just a hypocrite and is attracted to almost every new man. Also , thought the engagement was a temporary fake thing ,yet now she becomes the queen, while still waiting for Mal to find his way back to her.
There is a graphic novel written by Leigh bardugo. Thank god the writers of s2 did not get a chance to ruin it….one of the writers who hates the Darkling was in charge of adapting it. And let’s just say, if you read it some “choices” in s2 were changed from the books only to invalidate, destroy, and mock the Darkling and his personal trauma. The writers hate complex charcters and wanted to write flat, one dimensional forgettable villain in s2
My opinion will be different from most people's. I think season two should have been the end to this series with some minor changes at the end: 1: Mal should have remained dead 2: No more shadow creatures Alas, I have seen too many shows to know that they won't stop until this series is milked dry. I know it is being adapted from a book but I maintain my position.
No because every show has to be game of thrones every fantasy series now has to be game of thrones I wish George Martin never wrote those books and never adapted them to tv
I promise you it's not being milked. There's two duologies (a bit more lengthier than the shadow and bone story) that they're going to incorporate in the latter seasons
@@rawr3122 Thanks for the response but I won't hold out much hope for the prospective seasons. I still feel strongly that the story will be ruined for me. I won't mind being pleasantly surprised though.

My favorite character this season is Kaz and I don't believe Kirigan is truly dead from what's going on he won't just let alina be victimized by the way the mirazot did to him cause if there is one thing that he never lied on, its his feelings, his love for alina, he truly do loved her seeing how he tries to control the nichivoia to keep them at bay from attacking her, his last act of love for her before he dies at her own hands and for me alina feels the same she's just afraid to acknowledge it for the complication it carried along by acknowledging it. She's just in love at the idea of being in love with Mal for safety reasons, she's quit ambitious herself secretly. Kirigan use the Mirazort out of pain for his people and losing the woman he loved cause of prosecution of their race and he dies for the reason of love for a woman from his own race, one died protecting him out of love yet the other killed him cause of hate and fear for the love she denies that she felt for him despite of the this he had done
I personally except more of Kirigan! I excepted from him to have an reserve plan. Like Sauron or Voldemort. I know he is not them. But honestly I watched this tv show because i wasnted him and Alina to be together to find each other in some kind of love romance. All others are suckers!
We are blessed the series was canceled. The show runners and writers fully admitted how much they hated his character and we’re just out to destroy him. Christina strain even said somehow she was responsible for writing parts for demon in the Wood that they weren’t able to shoot; and the direction she would’ve taken it with was only to invalidate his trauma! They hated Ben Barnes and backstabbed him
I’m over Alina and all of her different Men . I guess if it’s going to be a season 3 she’ll be with yet another powerful Man, I wanted to see more of Nina and Mattahis
If Karagan didn’t know that Mell was the final amplifier until he had the last of Bagra’s memories, how could he have meant that Elena would have to sacrifice him in the first episode when he asked her if she was willing to sacrifice what was the most precious to her. Also, many people were attacked by the Munsters who were in Kerrigan so why would only Nikolai have them infecting him now.
In my opinion I don’t think Kirigan knew specifically what she would have to sacrifice, just that she didn’t know sacrifice like he did and she didn’t truly know if she would be able to do what it takes to achieve what she wanted. And about the second part, pretty sure only nikolai got infected because everyone else was killed, the only exception I can remember is Adrik, the male squaller (controls wind) and younger brother of nadia, who has his arm infected by a shadow monster during the first major attack. Notably, Tomal amputates Adriks arm in the tunnels and he ends up fine, which I think could be a subtle hint that it’s a zombie like infection which is why it affects nikolai later edit: also oddly every time alina is attacked she is grabbed by the throat whereas everyone else is stabbed or cut, not sure wether this is plot armor or some sort of sign of the connection between her and the nichevo'ya
@@bubbagump_shrimp you’re right that the statement Keurigan made about sacrifice could just have been a general one. I suppose it makes sense about the infection but I mean Genia got attacked and she didn’t have it happened and didn’t Bagheera also.
@@asecretcourtofcrowsandcloc4084 i think genya's price to pay was the scarring and losing her eye, it's also possible that nikolai got infected because he wasn't grisha, and the others just got away with injuries, maybe the nichevo'ya infected him because kirigan died so it needed a new host, etc. etc., lots of possible theories to comb through for sure. or it could be bad writing like you implied, time will tell i suppose
@@bubbagump_shrimp that’s an interesting idea, that since Nikolai wasn’t Gresha he could be more vulnerable to being infected or that it was because Keurian was killed that the monsters needed someone new. I think Genia got the scarring and lost her eye from the attack itself not because she was containing any of the monsters after the fact. I also really hope that David isn’t dead I think there might be a good chance of it since they never actually found the body
everybody did an awesome job! My favorite however to see more the character of the great king to see how love endures and overcme suffering, for love and friendship!
I dont know or read the book I binged watched 1 and 2 seasons in two days And that ending is not something i expected It seems like she has turned evil and she liked it
The season was okay but I loved the ending. I hated the book ending for Alina because it was wack that she lost her powers while Zoya got to be super charged with no consequences. I hope they split up Zoyas story line between her and Alina to keep them both interesting instead of casting Alina aside.
Yeah but that's because Alina used merzost to not only destroy the fold but keep Mal alive and she created the soldat sol. And honestly I too hated Alina's retirement but THAT WAS WHAT SHE AND MAL WANTED AND NGL them not getting it this season broke my heart a bit. Zoya is an absolute legend she was just above average by the end of S&B but she really shines in king of scars and that bee on her sleeve absolutely love the foreshadowing for her sankta arc
@@kissofarose100 looks like it. I mean they did the plot of THREE books in 2 seasons while also getting characters of the 6 of crows and resolving half of their internal conflicts and Mal is sturmhond and Alina is with powers and they are both not managing an orphanage. Alina's dark cut in the last episode is tying directly into the plot for Jurda, the shadow war with shu Han and the real war with fjerda in rule of wolves
I felt like they rashed everything in season 2... I mean they killed off david about 5 books earlier and the fact that mal became Sturmhond??? Unbelievable and not really fitting to the characters...Oh and Dominic alive? I get that in the adaptation there will be many changes, but at least keep it to a normal pace and please dont eliminate my zoyalai hopess
I really hope they do zoyalai😭. They’re one of my favourite ships. Other than that I don’t really mind the changes as long as they execute it properly.
One thing I am confused about that I hope someone can clear up for me is that if the fjerdans see grisha as abominations and hunt them, how was the last scene possible? They have the drug that makes their grisha powerful enough to win war against ravka but how do they have grisha to begin with if they hunt and kill them?
It’s because the fjerdans don’t see Grisha as human beings, to them the Grisha are abominations. They hunt them done, capture them (like we saw with Nina in s1), and bring them back to be executed/turned to slaves/ or turned into lab rats for experiments. The last scenario is what happened
@taraishot100 tbh I dont think she used him at all she wanted her cake and eat it too. Mal knew he should have died and he can't particularly understand why he doesn't feel the same about her...probably a tampering with fate affect. I do hope Alina doesn't go mad queen tho...
@@cheveyo1332 I do think she always treated mel like a dirty secret. Always wanting something more. No need for her to be a queen. It was corny in my opinion how it was written. In the book they never cared if the amplifier is what brung them together
I enjoyed this season, but I am slightly worried about how they are shoving random elements from Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom into the plot. These events in the books have weight in relation to the context in which they take place and the path that led up to them. But by being randomly put into this series, they lose all value, and galvanize any chance of doing justice to the story and the characters in the future. I mean, they put the climax of the last book in the middle of what is ultimately a prequel to the story... ??? ... what would be the point of putting the story itself on the screen now? If the story were a body, it's as if they decided to stage its skin, forgetting all its contents, bones, muscles, organs and all. They tell how the characters should be, but they cannot show how or why, because they are not going to put on the screen the history, the motivations, the stakes that together, and not sprinkled here and there along the course of another story, lead to the formation of these six incredible characters and the bonds that unite them. Without the context that formed them, the six of Crows are empty, a figurine compared to the real people. Which is even more unnerving when you consider how they managed to find the perfect cast. Cute fan-fiction series, but now it's time for 2 movies to give justice to the real story
The show riders were trying to lure in darkling fans. It was meant to tease a possible resurrection. But any fans they had were lost in season two where the writers intentionally spit on the Darklina fan’s faces, admitted to removing any semblance of romance and sympathy, and recently admitted they even wrote out his backstory just to invalidate his trauma and his character. They just wanted a flat mustache twirling villain caricature
JURDA WAS NOT MADE FROM A PLANT THAT GREW IN THE FOLD. it's made from the zemeni JURDA plant which equivalent to real world tobacco. And that grisha killing everyone during the coronation and being fjerdan but saying some patriotic fjerdan thing also doesn't make sense because grisha are persecuted in fjerda and in the books they forcefully administered parem to them and controlled them through coersion and torture
Loved season 2! I also thought it was packed but it was exciting to see all the cast together. The actors have such good chemistry on screen. Read the books but also love the show
Thanks for the recap. I enjoyed season 2 but the battle that raged for all of S1 and 7 episodes of S2, ended very quickly in the finale. That conclusion felt rushed. Also, the coronation scene just felt tacky to me. They could have done something else other than having the guests spit up blood. Was just dumb looking. Maybe show one person but it felt like it went on forever. And Alina’s heel turn felt forced. Ok, she used dark magic to bring back Mal but it still felt rushed. Not sure Netflix will bring this back. It feels a lot like Warrior Nun to me. Great reviews, lots of initial hours watched and made the top ten lists. But it is, as was WN, a special effects heavy show…ie, expensive, and unless it has some staying power with viewers, Netflix will likely not renew it.
Alina is a hypocrite she is no saint, she didn’t even try to understand the Darkling and Mal is a boring piece of wood. Darkling (Ben Barnes’ acting) and the crows are the best thing about the show. They better bring Ben Barnes back or no one will be watching!
I hope so, this series will feel different without him and I also a bit confused about the ending. how on earth she has kirigan’s power. is it bcs of merzost or the nature that tries to make things balance after kirigan’s death? there’s no light without darkness, so now she has both
this is my personal opinion, I think I prefer mal to be dead. besides they have no chemistry and always got me cringed in every scene, alina is getting too attached with him. even she used merzost to resurrected him… like why? he has done his job, let him go. she doesn’t want to make herself sacrificed anything and it’s annoying. it gave a bad impression, a girl who is really depending on her boy. i prefer she ended with no one, but herself
So I’m a little confused at the end with the fjerdan woman who was a heartreder I thought the fjerdan persecuted grisha as witches how is she helping the fjerdans wouldn’t they want her dead?
In the SoC-duology and the KoS-duology the Fjerdan control the Grisha more or less with jurda parem. The drug is so addicting that they do ANYTHING to get another dosis. And the Fjerdans use them happily. So I guess the heartrender was already so addicted (she was already very skinny and looked sick) that she happily killed everyone in the country which promised her security just to get another dosis.
I haven't read the books, but I really enjoyed both season and am really hoping for a third! Maybe because I have not read the books this did not feel rushed to me, though certainly full.

It was pretty good, I really need a S3 where alina is not such a big bad ,we need the crows ,and their storys.
hello this may seem farfetch but i want to know your reaction with the apple tv series servant cause it just ended
I want a spin-off series about the Crows only. Constantly overlapping stories with the Shadow and Bone characters just leads to rushing storylines for the other characters.
Kaz is my favorite this season. An incredible character and his dynamic with Inej.
Frrr the only thing that pisses me off is the fact he let a bad bitch 😩 slip right through his fingers (jk) but seriously get ur woman or else I will 🥴
Mine as well
Mine too!
I genuinely thought he was the main character, he's also very strategic
I agree, didn't like how they just shoved the important moments that suppose to happen in Crooked Kingdom.
I agree and I really hope there will be a third season. Can't shake the feeling that they packed this season just because they are not sure if they get another.
I'm not into books but I felt the same way when I watched the 2nd season. It felt rushed and crowded.
Same thoughts on the season.
It was good. Not enough Nina and Matthias content. Mal is still a block of wood. Freddy Carter and Ben Barnes act circles around everyone .
yup freddy and ben barnes carried the acting. which is why Kaz probably my favorite crow in the series.
Ben Barnes has found his niche, good guys that turn out to be bad and get scarred faces (The Punisher and Shadow and Bone)
Yes. All of this. Especially the Mal comment.
But also im looking forward to Mals privateer life.
Ben Barnes is so damn good
I think Alina turned out to be very selfish. She used Mal as a crutch instead of treating him as an equal. It was selfish to resurrect him. I don't think she really knows what she wants. She's not a very emotionally complex character at all. I appreciated Ben Barne's ability to communicate a plethora of emotions in a matter of seconds.
I'm not ready for nina, and Mathias' future, but at the same time I can't wait for the ice court heist, and nina's journey.
i always thought their love is a bit forced
Yah grp of mal i think will b joining her
I am only interested in their story line, and they are barely on it😭
i wasnt really disspointed with this season, bec even tho a lot was changed they did a great job imo, but the one thing that i really missed was matthias as a part of the crows and on ninas side... like so far weve never seen them as a team of six, and that just feels wrong 😭

Well if they gave them even more time - it would pract. become 6 of crows show. 😜
But i guess i get it, both their story (crows) and acting is better than primary cast.
Jespers ability was hinted at in the first season what with his supernatural gunslinging etc
If you ever want to read a series from this universe try the Six of Crows doulogy! It’s just about the crows.
Yeah Netflix has a plague where they are notorious for canceling shows after season 2. I’ll be really bummed out if it doesn’t get renewed.
be prepared to not know wth is going on if you read the books, since the Crows aren't in the original trilogy; I can't even remember if they met Alina, let alone were sent to grab her (I read the S&B trilogy, then Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom, then King of Scars/Rule of Wolves)
also, it appears that Mal was made the Dread Pirate Roberts of the Grishaverse and I don't remember that part in the books
You should be greatful , when ordinary people can watch tv show without comparing with the book and been salty about it
You will not like Alina and Mal if you read the book.
I have mixed feelings about this season to be honest. There were episodes I absolutely loved and there were things that made no sense, like Mal and Alina s relationship. And what about killing off the Darkling...I havent read the books yet but hope he returns, Ben Barnes is amazing

Yeah I don't know what the writers were thinking

I want to see evil characters and good one’s together and happy like in Vampires Dieres. I want to see Kirigan and Alina against the world!!!
Shadow and done
Made more sense how Alina Amplified in the fold the first time, mal was an amplifier
If only Alina was played by diff capable actor, this would have been the best series. Loved the series.
oh thought i was the only one. mal & alina acting cant carry the complexity of the stories imho
ikr
So i wasn't the only one. I just can't make myself to care about them.
True
Can't believe they cancelled this show 😢 I was looking forward to Alina becoming a villain haha
I love Nina and Matthias! I hope they have their HEA. I like Nikoli and I kinda love the triangle between him, Alina and Mal. He would also be a good match for Alina.
i also prefer their connections than jasper & wylan. a bit forced to fit in the show
I was wondering for Mal, was he reborn without the tracking abilities or can he not feel it because her magic/abilities are dark now. As in she is no longer a sun summoner but has darkness.
In the book he gave his abilities to Alina. So when he was resurrected, they were already gone.
I thought it was gonna be that she was pregnant with his child and that the power passed to it.
I just think that not following the book is a good thing. It will keep you guessing and wanting to see more.
I'm disappointed it didn't follow the books.
Whats in the book?
@@lionchris4165 do you want spoilers?
@@ravinialee269 i finished the series but if you're talking about the book didn't they change the series instead following the book? Can you tell me what part did they change?
@@lionchris4165 one of the biggest was the Hellgate (where Matthias is currently imprisoned) plotline.
*spoilers*
Nina doesn't visit alone; rather with the rest of the crows, because they want him to take part in a heist where they infiltrate Fjerda's White Palace in order to find Bo Yul-Bayur, the creator of the jurda parem which was used by a heartrender (likely sent from Fjerda) who infiltrated the coronation and mentioned by Kaz during episode 8. All of this takes place in Six of Crows, a book that takes place a few years after the events of the Shadow and Bone trilogy
@@lionchris4165 in the book Alina loses her powers while taking down the fold and kills the darling with his own power and the blade she killed Mal with. Mal comes back to life because what she killed was the amplifier part of him, so now he doesn’t have powers either. Since both Alina and Mal no longer have powers they get married and start an orphanage together living “ordinary lives, full of ordinary things. If love can ever be called that.”
“Shadow and Done”.
I see what you did there 😏
As someone who loves the books I have mixed feelings. I absolutely loved this season and hope for another season (please, all of you, binge watch it so Netflix does not cancel it!) but only if I watch it as an independent story and not as an book adaption
I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO ZOYALAI
Team crow did incredible job
LOVED Jespar and Wylan!! Definitely my favorites this season. I could just watch an entire show of them having a happy life and sharing many adventures together. Also, Genyas storyline was so tragic, it was hard to watch, but also very gripping. Only person who made me cry this season was her
Heard there is a spin off 'six of crow' hope full we get to see jasper and wylan some more
This is such a great show.... finale was really sad but I can't wait for season 3!
"King of Ravka et al." had me CACKLING
as I have never read the books, I loved this show more than I was thinking I would.
All actors were great! Love how they brought to life their characters. Except maybe for Alina. 🤔
The ad for "real therapy" before this video was perfect. I need therapy after that season. I was so angry I couldn't speak when I finished it.
It makes me wonder a bit more about Kirigan’s history. Was he always the ’darkling’? Darkling also makes one think of the word changeling.
Sad to know that the show was cancelled by Netflix.
My opinion will be different from most people's. I think season two should have been the end to this series with some minor changes at the end:
1: Mal should have remained dead
2: No more shadow creatures
Alas, I have seen too many shows to know that they won't stop until this series is milked dry.
Thanks a bunch! That’s all I do now… I just wait for “Ending Explained” videos for movies & series & im good! 🤣🤣 I just skipped hours of binge watching, which I love! Much appreciate the recap!
🤣😘👍
Awesome explained 👌🏻
Alina's smile at the end was menacing
Notably, Tomal amputates Adriks arm in the tunnels and he ends up fine, which I think could be a subtle hint that it’s a zombie like infection which is why it affects nikolai later
edit: also oddly every time alina is attacked she is grabbed by the throat whereas everyone else is stabbed or cut, not sure wether this is plot armor or some sort of sign of the connection between her and the nichevo'ya
Bad writers
please, let genya have something good for once 😭😭😭

WAIT!!!! THERE'S GONNA BE A SEASON 3?! ❤
everybody did an awesome job! My favorite however to see more the character of the great king to see how love endures and overcme suffering, for love and friendship!
I dont know or read the book
I binged watched 1 and 2 seasons in two days
And that ending is not something i expected
It seems like she has turned evil and she liked it
The season was okay but I loved the ending.
@@azanmuhammad2980 exactly! the all separation of Alina and Mal was so stupid!
@@kissofarose100 I guess it's necessary if Alina is to remain relevant to the king of scars and 6 of crows story
@@azanmuhammad2980 so basically they changed the ending of the books just to have a role in the later books?
Adding to that i have this theory that the spider kaz will find might be Dynyasha the white whatever and she might betray them or smtg
I really hope they do zoyalai😭. They’re one of my favourite ships. Other than that I don’t really mind the changes as long as they execute it properly.
Nice review
One thing I am confused about that I hope someone can clear up for me is that if the fjerdans see grisha as abominations and hunt them, how was the last scene possible? They have the drug that makes their grisha powerful enough to win war against ravka but how do they have grisha to begin with if they hunt and kill them?
It’s because the fjerdans don’t see Grisha as human beings, to them the Grisha are abominations. They hunt them done, capture them (like we saw with Nina in s1), and bring them back to be executed/turned to slaves/ or turned into lab rats for experiments. The last scenario is what happened
The ending with Mal and Alina had me shook, I couldn’t believe it especially when they went through all that and he got brought back to life. Weird
Alina is trash I felt sorry for Mal it felt like she only used him to get what she wanted then ditched him
@taraishot100 tbh I dont think she used him at all she wanted her cake and eat it too.
Just saw the news they didn't renew a season 3. ALAS! Would have been an interesting starting point.
Tolya will make Inej forget all about Kaz in a matter of seconds 😂
Yes!! I can't wait to see romance between them. She needs a thoughtful man to take care of her.
Inej brother is maybe the chemist guy? Or David? Actually David's body was not found right?
David is a durast and Inej a suli ?? I don't think so ...
What was the meaning behind the bee on zoya's shoulder when they were burning kirigans body?
The show riders were trying to lure in darkling fans. It was meant to tease a possible resurrection. But any fans they had were lost in season two where the writers intentionally spit on the Darklina fan’s faces, admitted to removing any semblance of romance and sympathy, and recently admitted they even wrote out his backstory just to invalidate his trauma and his character. They just wanted a flat mustache twirling villain caricature
Very interesting commentary❤❤
Loved the show really hope netflix keeps it going
The Shadow and Bone end scene reminded me of how THAT 1980's Dynasty Moldavian wedding massacre scene could have been...
Attracted to abusers much?
Am getting a feeling kirigan will be back
yeah me too, i think he might have posses someone's body like mal maybe 🤔 since she use merzot to bring him back to life ??
🐝
@@KCrvr that bee in the last which sat on the arm of grisha?
There won’t be a season 3. Leigh Bardugo posted it on her Instagram
I really loved the show, I hope we get another season. Great character development all around.
There was no character development for the trilogy charcters. They were the same as the end of s1. Static charcters due to bad scripts
I haven't read the books, but I really enjoyed both season and am really hoping for a third! Maybe because I have not read the books this did not feel rushed to me, though certainly full.
