      @@bigboyshobbies5731 I wouldn't worry about it too much. Some of us Americans actually wish that we would make the changeover from the old fashioned Imperial measurement system to the metric. This way we'll be more in step with the rest of the civilized world.

    I love the design which obviously is proven as many very old distilleries still use them. I have never seen anyone use one of these with a flavoring thumper in between the still and condenser. will they not work well? thanks, tom

      ..i've enjoyed this hobby for 4 yrs. and use a copper pot still. the pot is the easiest to run before you get into the other set ups.

    • @bigboyshobbies5731
      @bigboyshobbies5731  4 года назад +2

      Alembic's and other pot still's are easiest to use. With reflux column you have to stabilize a temperature and its a little bit more complicated. Pot stills are good to make rum, whisky and other flavored liquers, and columns are good to make high proof clean alcohol

    Great video! How do you know how much bad alcohol to throw away at the beginning?

    • @bigboyshobbies5731
      @bigboyshobbies5731  4 года назад +2

      Its all depend of the type of wash you distill. To be honest i don't know exacly but its better to throw away too much than too less. I know people who doesn't throw it at all and everything is ok. I also read on the internet that at home its not possible to make enaught methyl alcohol which can poison you, but please throw away some of it.

    The only issue is that there is no methanol, or the wine would kill you as well.
    It's a conman myth that the first part of the run has high methanol in it, which was perpetuated by the prohibition era.
    In reality it just tastes bad.
