The shot at 0:39 speaks volumes and is great foreshadowing. Shelby looks fuzzy and out of focus and Romero is completely in focus. Shows who is the minor disposable character versus the one who would become a major player. Also, Shelby looks perplexed while Alex is completely taken aback by Norma's beauty, if only for a split second. It's like the showrunners knew who Norma was destined to end up with.
In Psycho Norman had poisoned both his mother and her lover in jealous rage. Romero was built to be that lover from start. Norma grew Norman to be codependent of her. Son-husband of shorts who would never abandon her. Then she marries her lover and Norman can't handle it. Norma's emotional abuse of Norman, not letting him grow to be his own personality really was what in the end caused her and Romero's death. Even thought their deaths happened differently in the show than in book and movie.
I would have never guessed they’d end up together and it was so beautiful to see! The character development Over the seasons was amazing. I love them together!
