@HESTIA At the Catholic Mass we are forgiven of our venial sins prior to the receiving of the Holy Eucharist. Mortal sin, the Church wants you to see a Priest to be absolved.
It's very telling that though many Catholics become Protestant and vice versa, every Protestant I've seen who became Catholic was already devout, and as a result of their passion for Christianity discovered the true Church. Every Catholic I've seen who became Protestant was raised Catholic, was poorly catechized, didn't really know what the Church teaches, and then went Protestant and felt like they found Christianity. Essentially, the best Protestants become Catholic, and the most lukewarm Catholics become Protestant.
Very True. The Protestants who become Catholic are passionate and theologically literate they just have to connect the dots, the Catholics who become Protestant want a watered down version of Catholicism.
Where have you been living all your life ,some other planet perhaps .Here in Ireland we have had the crimes of the Roman Catholic church laid bare .Child abuse ,young mothers locked up in ‘homes’ run by nuns and worked like slaves ,800 plus dead children threw into a septic tank ,didn’t get a proper burial.Never mind the crimes of the priests here whose deeds make the revelations of Maria Monk look tame in comparison .Unfortunately lots of these priests were sent over the world to continue their debauchery in those countries.

I agree that evangelicals resist the John 6 passage's meaning. Why must we accept Transubstantiation as the way to explain John 6? I'm asking that sincerely. In all these type of testimonies--which I respect--the convert inevitably comes to Mary and effectively takes a leap of faith to embrace the church's teaching on devotion to her. I saw this in Scot Hahn, too. I'd like to hear the same exegetical approach to devotion to Mary that I heard with John 6.
One of the hallmarks of heresy is specialization. They take one idea, concept, principle and exalt it until it becomes the guiding light, to the detriment of all others. Over the millennia it has been, to take just a few examples, icons, the Sabbath, faith, works, the Bible, private revelation, Mary, the Saints. All of these are good in themselves as part of a whole. However when they are extracted and promoted as the one foundation, you are talking about heresy. One of the reasons the Catholic Church is catholic is that it doesn't specialize. It digests and reflects on the entire Bible - all Bible verses, faith as well as works, the Saints in the context of the entire family of God, heaven, earth, revelation and history. It is, as you would expect the Church to be: whole, entire and complete, for every nation, people and tongue.

The Protestants who come home are on fire and have a working knowledge of the faith, particularly Scripture, that many cradle Catholics lack. They have mentally "rebuilt" the faith in the process of becoming Catholic and are in an excellent position then to teach. I am afraid many of the best native candidates are bogged down in the mind numbing liturgy wars and "reporting" on Vatican rumors, which tend to render them Protestants in spirit. Is a man in love with a particular Mass, arguing against the validity of the last ecumenical council, really in a position to teach the faith? No, unfortunately. @@Kitiwake - I agree that Scripture knowledge is not a requirement for a Catholic and that it is the Church's job to hold onto it for us. Paying attention to Scripture, even though it's not a personal responsibility is part of our formation, at least it seems to me. Also if the goal is to bring Protestants home in particular, then a working knowledge of Scripture is a must in way that it doesn't matter for someone never exposed to the mindset. Ambrose, who lived in Rome before going to Milan as its bishop, venerated Mary as an example of Christian life and is credited with starting a Marian cult of virginity in the 4th century. Marian veneration was theologically sanctioned with the adoption of the title Theotokos at the Council of Ephesus in 431.
Marian devotion-and devotion to the saints in general-existed in the early Church, as St. Irenaeus affirms in the late second century: For as Eve was seduced by the word of an angel to flee from God, having rebelled against His Word, so Mary by the word of an angel received the glad tidings that she would bear God by obeying his Word. The former was seduced to disobey God, but the latter was persuaded to obey God, so that the Virgin Mary might become the advocate of the virgin Eve. As the human race was subjected to death through [the act of] a virgin, so it was saved through a virgin” (Irenaeus, Against Heresies, V: 19, 1).

Suppose you had spent three years living with that person, witnessing miracles, seeing prophesies fulfilled and coming to the realization that THIS IS GOD ! Would that affect the way you understood the words? The people who didn't accept Our Lord as the Messiah were the ones who walked away, John 6:66 Those who are denying the true Body and Blood ( NOT symbolic) are still not accepting Him, no matter how much they may deny this. @@tryingnottobeasmartass757 do you know that Jesus actually said “eat my flesh and drink my blood?” We don’t know for sure. we just read what someone wrote down 30 years after Jesus was on the earth. So, while you assert Islam makes “demonstrably false claims,” you can’t, in any way, demonstrate that Jesus ACTUALLY said this. It is not me to prove he said this but it is you who must demonstrate that the person who wrote it down was accurate. Also, Jesus demonstrated that he didn’t understand seasons when he got angry at the fig tree for not having fruit and cursed it. Oh..that passage doesn’t demonstrate that Jesus didn’t understand seasons (even though a literal reading of the text does show it), but Jesus was using it as a spiritual lesson. Whenever the Bible demonstrates something false, Christianity spiritualizes the passage to make it true. That is also how Muslims defend what you assert as “demonstrably false.” See how similar Christianity and Islam are in?
@@robtruax7640, I didn't attempt to demonstrate in any way that Jesus actually said that. In fact, I made no defense of Christianity at all. Neither did I attack it. I said that appealing to Islam, which makes demonstrably false claims about Judaism, Christianity, and the Bible, is probably not the best way to present your case. If you got anything else from what I wrote, you need to contact your reading teachers from Elementary School and demand they apologize for failing to teach you reading comprehension.
As to his teenage conversion experience, it is notable that the word "believe" was not used. Yet the way of salvation is presented over & over, perhaps over 100 times as giving faith (trust in the Lord Jesus, in OT trust in YHWH) as the only condition for salvation: What must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus & thou shalt be saved, Acts 16. Regardless of the verbiage, if he sincerely trusted Christ as Savior, then He received a transformation & the gift of eternal life with the Lord Jesus. This, of course, requires that one have "Jesus" adequately defined in one's mind. The Lord Jesus is the risen 2nd Person of the Trinity, God become man, not Jesús the Mexican car mechanic or Michael the archangel. If Reed turned to the idolatry of pope-ism, bowing to statues & pretending to sacrifice Christ over & over in the Mass with worshipping bread, deeming it Christ's body, then I disbelieve that he ever actually trusted Christ as Savior & got the transformation from sinful child of Adam to child of God.

You are spot on! 😊
Very True. The Protestants who become Catholic are passionate and theologically literate they just have to connect the dots, the Catholics who become Protestant want a watered down version of Catholicism.
My observations as well.
The Coming Home Network, along with EWTN, was an integral part of my request to enter the Roman Catholic Church. Thank you Marcus!

Aww this is so nice.

Our fully reunited brethren tend to be on guard against such attitudes and know how to have a relationship with the current Peter. Not all (I am looking you Taylor Marshall) but enough to make a pattern.
@@atrifle8364 you write of a vocal but tiny minority of Catholics who idolize one form of liturgy and I agree with you on that.
Maybe there's only a tiny minority of converts who get the special attention I mentioned in my previous post here.
I suppose that's me answering my own question.
As for holding fast to and a deep grasp of scripture, not a requirement for the Catholics in the faith, imo. We have the church to do that for us.
@@Kitiwake - I agree that Scripture knowledge is not a requirement for a Catholic and that it is the Church's job to hold onto it for us. That said, the whole first part of the Mass is Scripture reading. Hopefully the Church isn't wasting everyone's time by proclaiming it. Paying attention to Scripture, even though it's not a personal responsibility is part of our formation, at least it seems to me.
Also if the goal is to bring Protestants home in particular, then a working knowledge of Scripture is a must in way that it doesn't matter for someone never exposed to the mindset.
Anyway, I think you have hit on problem, which is selection bias. The people who even get these jobs are a minority of Protestants who come home. Most Protestant pastors and teachers coming home need to find other work, which someone said in an interview around here. 🙂 In this story, he clearly had a talent and enthusiasm obvious to his first professors. Not everyone gets urged to be a professor and is tad reluctant to pursue it.
I know Dr. Marshall personally. Very down to earth, humble person who loves worshiping God, especially in the form of the mass. His calling is to inform people of whats going on so they don’t lose the faith. Men who are informed aren’t struggling with being Catholic but rather know what direction to take their family to live the faith, faithfully and with like minded individuals.
@jlouis4407 *Misquoting Scriptures does not help you ROman pagan. John 20 totally does not say Roman pagan religion inherited the authority of the Apostles. So where is your proof that it was so? All self claims?*
you said
Jesus gives the Holy Spirit and power to forgive and retain sins as He did in John 20:21,
You walk like a duck, you quack like a duck...you begin to believe you are a duck. It's tragic to see this story.
@jlouis4407 *You seem dull. Every Jew fulfill Mosaic Law. Were they all sinless too according to your false logic?*
you said
She was fulfilling the precepts of the Law how can one be unclean after giving birth to the sinless God answer me that, you say that giving birth to Jesus made her unclean.
What if it's a home of deception ?
That would mean that Jesus came to deceive
Christian - comes to faith from the revelation of who Christ is by reading word inspired by God
Catholic - comes to faith by the realization that the RCC is the only true church by reading word uninspired by man.
thank u
😂😂😂What pagan thinking. Catholic Church made of man? Twilight of the mind in your head. No need to say anything further.
if that is your best argument, i realy can not see why you convert. John 6 have to been study in context
So happy to be a born again Christian Protestant...no need but Christ to be my intercessor; Certainly, no need to jump through Catholic hoops.
It is interesting that you are following these types of posts. Perhaps there is a desire in there somewhere to learn more about all this?
@@leonardconvissor9829 I was more interested in the pop up feature of some fool who abandoned true Christianity.
@@Charles-jg8dz If I may say - the Holy Spirit leads us. I would never call you a "fool" for your efforts to find your home in Christianity. The fact that you are interested in these posts suggests to me that you are still of an open mind, and still perhaps searching - as we all should do. If we can share some Christian hospitality between ourselves as "Christians", perhaps Satan would not have such a foothold in our society. I personally would like to see Christians work better together. I think we would all be in a better place here and also in the hereafter.
@@leonardconvissor9829 My Jesus accepts me without adding ' Hail Marys, Crucifixes and rosary beads. It appears that the Roman Catholic Church is under going some major, internal problems ( need I mention them?) because God has allowed Satan inside due to all the corruption that has been going on. You, Sir , by supporting the Church , are just as guilty as those within the Church hierarchy.
@@Charles-jg8dz Appreciate the reply. Perhaps less accusations would help us all get along better. All humans are in a fallen state - I believe all Christian denominations accept that. We also can only be perfected with Jesus's intercession. Perhaps if we focus on that more and finger pointing less, then we can move forward as a stronger presence in this world. Satan loves division. Love you brother Charles, and I am sure Jesus does too!

Any church that departs from Christ's teaching is not Christian. The liberal Methodist church is therefore not Christian.
I have posted a simple question at several pro-Catholic sites but am yet to obtain a Christ-like response. So I try once more here:
What did Jesus mean when He proclaimed "No man comes to the Father except through me"? (Jn.14:6; 1Jn.2:1).
Before any brother or sister answers, please be sure you know the difference between a genetic father, like Abraham, father of Jews, and a spiritual one, like God the Father, who is also Jesus if God can be trusted to preserve His recorded truth (Is.9:6).
I am still loooking for someone to

Please go away.
@@TheBinaryWolf :
I'm sure that you have read the Bible, so can you tell me if you believe everything that you read in the Bible?
And if so, why?
How can you be sure that it is true?
I'm glad you found a tradition that makes you happy. The veneration of Mary occurred after the church had been around over 1,000 years. But you do you.
It began long before that.
Irenaeus affirms in the late second century:
For as Eve was seduced by the word of an angel to flee from God, having rebelled against His Word, so Mary by the word of an angel received the glad tidings that she would bear God by obeying his Word.
Read St. Ignatius of Antioch on Mary, it began right away, God bless!
@CoffeeLover-mz7bk - the Tradition of the Bible occurred after the church had been around over 400 years also soooo…
History shows us that Jesus didn't leave us a bible, the apostles didn't tell us which books belong in the bible, the church fathers never agreed on the 27 books of the NT through the 4th century, not only did they not agree but their list of would-be NT canons were GROWING during this time. So, if it wasn't the Catholic/Orthodox church that compiled the 27 books of the NT in the 5th century with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and preserved it by laboriously hand copying them over and over throughout the centuries before the invention of the printing press, the “rule of faith” for many, please tell us, show us, who did? And if this church no longer exists today, what good is the text which came forth from her if she couldn't sustain herself?
If a person came up to you and said “you must eat my flesh and drink my blood for eternal life,”…you would think that person has a mental disorder. Why does this makes sense to you?
Suppose you had spent three years living with that person, witnessing miracles, seeing prophesies fulfilled and coming to the realization that THIS IS GOD !
Would that affect the way you understood the words?
The people who didn't accept Our Lord as the Messiah were the ones who walked away, John 6:66
Those who are denying the true Body and Blood ( NOT symbolic) are still not accepting Him, no matter how much they may deny this. They are walking away from the truth.
@@alhilford2345 have you actually spent 3 years with such a person? Have you talked with any eyewitnesses? Even Luke admits his information was from those who claimed to be witnesses…but did Luke actually talk to the Shepherds? Chapter 1 of Luke clearly stretches the truth about his gathering of information from actual eyewitnesses.
Furthermore, these statements were written not by Jesus but others DECADES after Jesus left the earth. Plenty of time for a new take on the Passover to occur and then write a history to support the new theology.
If I actually saw those miracles..then it would seem reasonable. But, neither you nor I have seen it. So, giving me a hypothetical scenario and then expecting that hypothetical should allow me to believe an entire theology that wine and bread are Jesus’ actual body is really a weak argument.
Alas, your faith needs you to believe what you would find ridiculous in all other religions.
Example: Do you believe Allah allowed Muhammad to split the moon? If you were there and saw it, you too would realize that Muhammad is Allah’s prophet. And there were eyewitnesses!!
So, if you consider your reasoning sufficient that it should persuade me to believe you, you then should be persuaded that Muhammad was Allah’s prophet. I suspect you don’t. If you don’t accept the Muhammad miracle but accept Jesus’ miracle, then you are engaging in the logical fallacy called Special Pleading.
@@robtruax7640, appealing to Islam, which makes demonstrably false claims about Christianity, Judaism, and the Bible, is probably not the best way to counter Christianity. If the Qur'an was completely accurate in everything it said on those subjects, then using it might be a convincing example. However, since Muhammad lied about those three things, it is reasonable to believe he lied about others.
