These videos are great Magnus. To spend even 10 minutes inside the mind of the best player in the world, even while playing casually, is a genuine privilege.
Magnus is getting much better as a commentator and I think this is because his English has improved over the years. He is also becoming more self confident. He's only still 23! I only wish my Norwegian was as good as his English. Best of luck in the match against Vishy, and the best of luck to Vishy too. I hope the best man wins. Keep up the good work on this channel too.
Richard Helliwell I'm very impressed with his command of the English language! His level of comfort makes me think that it may have been spoken at home.
+00bikeboy (yeah, I know it's 5 months since the comment, but whatever) Norway, and the other Scandinavian countries speak English just as well as England. There are exceptions, but the only people I've seen in my travels in Norway that can't speak English as well as I can are people who are too old to have been taught it in school (and now don't see the point), and people under the school age. It's taught alongside Norwegian as soon as they are 6 years old, so pretty much everyone can speak their own language plus English.
Blitzkrieg37 I noticed he made a few blunders that even I, a 1250 on lichess, wouldn't make. In the first game he had a chance to fork both rooks, but he castled instead i think.
Only thing that really compares with magnus playing his own app is The Master Game series always nice to hear what a grandmaster is thinking while he plays, Thanks Magnus, big fan from Jamaica
Speed of thinking is amazing. The moves seem "logical" but there are many worse moves that to anyone else would seem "logical" and would probably be selected.
Really cool. been looking forward to another video from this channel. The game was interesting as well. Even playing quickly his technique is brilliant once he has an advantageous position. Thanks Magnus
I would really like to see you vs your 24 yr old self when it's realeased, I know and am convinced that it'll be the best chess game in history guaranteed.
sebastian aminoff I think it's irritating to see you use poor grammar and try to look down on others for the same thing. Pot calling the kettle black at it's finest.
I'm using this app and I'm loving it so far my rating is not that good right now but I'm having fun this app must have taken a while to make anyway keep up the good work
I think this was a pretty nice video. It's better commentating than before, and definitely enjoyable, not boring. Perhaps in the future you could play human opponents as well?
I think one thing to consider adding is to specify a rating range for the ages. This way a person has a sense if a person is playing against a 1000 level Magnus vs. playing at an age where your rating was 1800 for example.
Currently stuck on Age 9 Magnus. I beat Age 8 after a TON of tries. I started playing two months ago. Is this good progress for where I'm at? I've been using Chess.com and a couple books to help with my studying.
do you mean at 2:38 with move ...Qxc6? I think it's to keep the Knight on a5 attacking the c4 and b3 squares. With Knight on c6, you block your Queen and don't really attack any significant squares in this position. I also probably would have played Nxc6 without thinking haha.
This is probably one of my favorite games to watch, because Carlsen takes the game seriously, plays calmly and for the win, and reveals something about his younger self: he was a bit too aggressive and fearless back in the day, a piece of advice which could be quite useful against those training against him at those ages.
If Carlsen could ever become and stay the best chess player ever for centuries after he passes away, future generations will talk about him as if he invented an app to beat himself. They might even find it funny. That is how History works by the way.
Magnus Carlsen caught playing with himself
On video
Ok rly?
and recording it
Yes, but with a child!
Lol.
"i wish there was an 'offer your opponent resignation' button" haha
Yeah😂😂
My friend offered my other friend a draw and he accepted lol
@@sadfiereboom7368 in a losing position right?
And a decline button
only he can say that
carlsen: (when new message arrived) "maybe i have a few more friends than i thought"
+Mike Marsh He has 52k friends right now on youtube... ;-)
+Bendegúz Balog LOL
iDontbreakPS3 chill
These videos are great Magnus. To spend even 10 minutes inside the mind of the best player in the world, even while playing casually, is a genuine privilege.
The title should be, "Magnus Carlsen plays with himself at age 14"
You win the internet
even if you lose, you win
AxPlays Except he's playing against 14 year old him. If he loses that means he's not getting any stronger.
Relax. He does own it.
But he won, so he lost

00bikeboy I don't think that's something special .
Lmao is this a joke?
+black buu then why is your english so broken lmao
+00bikeboy (yeah, I know it's 5 months since the comment, but whatever) Norway, and the other Scandinavian countries speak English just as well as England. "But he will be not successful" You just said that to your own self.
"Maybe I have a few more friends than I thought" lol
Magnus: "Who are you?"
Also Magnus: "Im you, but stronger"
Please try to record some online blitz sometime!
Ryan Taylor This!
Ryan Taylor This!!!!
Ryan Taylor that
Ryan Taylor waste of time for magnus
+Valeriy Huz
Everyone would love to see it but he's just here to promote his app. No reason for him to play elsewhere.
Magnus 13 was able to get a draw vs Kasparow. Magnus 24 beats Magnus 14
in 12 minutes. Magnus chess skills are scary.
I doubt if the app is really as good as the real one.
Blitzkrieg37 he is the champ, after all.
Ben Grosz Ya, but in these videos I think he is purposely not playing at his best just to promote the app.
Blitzkrieg37 I noticed he made a few blunders that even I, a 1250 on lichess, wouldn't make. In the first game he had a chance to fork both rooks, but he castled instead i think.
Ben Grosz no but u did not see it that queen was pinned
I enjoyed Magnus' commentary. I wish he would do more videos like this.
4:12 "And it looks like we've got a message. Maybe I have a few more friends than I thought."
Only thing that really compares with magnus playing his own app is The Master Game series always nice to hear what a grandmaster is thinking while he plays, Thanks Magnus, big fan from Jamaica
"I wish there was a 'offer your opponent resignation' button"
A great insight Magnus, thank you.
I play tårn to f4
-Magnus Carlsen 2014
Man Magnus, I really really love your play. I love how you can be so defensive and at a snap of a figure turn that around to win the game. Dang.
Always instructive and motivational to new and old players alike.
thanks! keep it up Magnus
That noise at the end scared the hell out of me
Congratulations, you played yourself
Such a wonderfully lucid explanation of the moves! Very informative video.
Awesome to hear your thoughts about the game. nothing more to add
Speed of thinking is amazing. The moves seem "logical" but there are many worse moves that to anyone else would seem "logical" and would probably be selected.
When you refer to your past self as a number...
Please do more of this...i like the way you think :)
Really cool. been looking forward to another video from this channel. The game was interesting as well. Even playing quickly his technique is brilliant once he has an advantageous position. Thanks Magnus
Maybe I have a few more friends than I thought ~ Magnus Carlson, 2014
Seeing him beat the app just makes me happy...I can't beat the damn thing
Very nice app! The motion is smooth.
Thank you very much for making these videos. It's great to see you care about your fans.
I am in shock! I cannot believe Magnus won
i love you magnus!!!!
10:54 That button would be a great way to tilt your opponent. I am missing this button too.
"Offer your opponent's resignation button. There should be. " 😂😂👏👏 I know there really should be even in tournaments.
You could say Magnus was playing with himself
"I might be playing myself in the play live challenge." lol
I would really like to see you vs your 24 yr old self when it's realeased, I know and am convinced that it'll be the best chess game in history guaranteed.
Thank you for the lesson ... I like to hear your minds during game
Jörg Verges it wasnt a lesson you idiot and what is
I like to hear your minds during game supposed to mean
learn english
sebastian aminoff Jerk, maybe english isn't his first language. If your going to play grammar Nazi, learn how to uppercase the letters in your name
Sun Blazer Or, at the very least, he could use an uppercase letter to begin a sentence.
Sun Blazer im not a grammar nazi i just think it´s irritating that he said:I like to hear your minds during game
Like some mindreader
sebastian aminoff I think it's irritating to see you use poor grammar and try to look down on others for the same thing. Pot calling the kettle black at it's finest.
A RUclips channel with MAGNUS CARLSEN as the host?! Count me fucking in!
Awesome! Hoping to see the app on android soon.
2:23 his memory is ridiculous
He has photographic memory.
Would you ever do videos analysing your tournament games? Love to get some insight into some of your games at Sinquefield.
I'm using this app and I'm loving it so far my rating is not that good right now but I'm having fun this app must have taken a while to make anyway keep up the good work
No matter who wins or who lose Winner will always be Magnus
He has nothing to lose
Good luck next month!
I think this was a pretty nice video. It's better commentating than before, and definitely enjoyable, not boring. Perhaps in the future you could play human opponents as well?
Remember, kids:
Sit at the chess board and play with yourself.
***** hahaha , i saw rhe vid
And maybe you become AlphaZero someday.
Its amazing!
I think one thing to consider adding is to specify a rating range for the ages. This way a person has a sense if a person is playing against a 1000 level Magnus vs. playing at an age where your rating was 1800 for example.
keep the Magnus plays Magnus series going :) digger det
Hello Magnus Carlsen
I'd actually really love to see you play your actual self.
I just drew Magnus at age 10 on that app. Even at 10 the app is very clever.
BRING TO ANDROID :D
Yes please
russell schaeffler
Sería genial esa app en android.
***** It's already there. :)
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.mw.playmagnus
yeah, i see. Thanks.
Nice game. I should work on that opening line a little
10:46 he means queen right? :P
No rook. He was able to see the next game.
great game. thanks for sharing!
Thanks Magnus I really enjoyed this - do you ever play early Fritz and rybka programs?
a very instructive game
I'm sure Magnus 14 would have been to tears in the end. "I will never become the Worldmaster in chess" *sobb*
“Little Magnus.”
I'll be your friend Magnus.
I want this for windows phone store
Windows's phones suck! ha ha
+Nicola Rossi does that mean my windows at my house have a phone?
Awesome!
3:13 "This is a strange move from Magnus 14" Ok. I just can't stop laughing!
I'm watching this on my phone. How can I rotate the video 90 degrees ?
I am unable to play the game beyond the age of 7 years ? Why ??
Because you need to pay to go further.
Airblader No i mean i get checkmate after 7 years
Dhruvil Purani same
Wow Magnus... you played yourself
Mr. Carlsen, you might be playing with yourself in the play live challenge.......? ;D
Beating an engine magnus 14 in just 12 minutes omg that's really unbelievable chess skills, i cannot magnus 14 even if i play chess for life time
Pretty awesome!
so for a chess players friend is that text to m8
Very good
mr marean was my chess teacher!
Yes online blitz games would be nice use ICC or so :) good players there; and your app for android would be cool :s
good game carlsen
Currently stuck on Age 9 Magnus. I beat Age 8 after a TON of tries. I started playing two months ago. Is this good progress for where I'm at? I've been using Chess.com and a couple books to help with my studying.
Nick P Have you beat it yet?
Magnus is actually quite funny. Very dry sarcastic humor
The app itself at its peak is equal to Komodo or stockfish at 15-16 depth... age 10-20 is around 10-13 depth
magnus is such a chad it is not even funny.
very good
HAHAHA I got the ad for his app before this
Even in a Mate In Four, Magnus would be able to get a draw. Like, he is the king of getting draws.
For detailed analysis of the game, we need Agadmator
He played himself
Magnus 14 was qualified to the world cup and lost in 10 minutes. incredible
the facebook link is a link to somebody else! btw nice video
Magnus why didnt you just use black knight at 2:22 insted of queen
do you mean at 2:38 with move ...Qxc6? I think it's to keep the Knight on a5 attacking the c4 and b3 squares. With Knight on c6, you block your Queen and don't really attack any significant squares in this position. I also probably would have played Nxc6 without thinking haha.
I know how Strong even magnus 8 is,but there should be an option to analyse your games after a match
you can just click on export the game option and analyse on different site
This is probably one of my favorite games to watch, because Carlsen takes the game seriously, plays calmly and for the win, and reveals something about his younger self: he was a bit too aggressive and fearless back in the day, a piece of advice which could be quite useful against those training against him at those ages.
stuck on Magnus 9 and I am 10 years old :]
Ur really good then, I'm stuck on Magnus 8 yrs 2 months and I'm 13
Any chances to make this app for android?
Magnus is Karyken!!!
I love watching Magnus playing with himself...not that, just in chess, you sicko ;o)
2x speed makes magnus talk at normal speed.
this is a good game!
11:26 I might even be playing myself on the Play Magnus Challenge. Hahaha
If Carlsen could ever become and stay the best chess player ever for centuries after he passes away, future generations will talk about him as if he invented an app to beat himself. They might even find it funny. That is how History works by the way.
