I caught a 16.5# oio at kona pier back in 2012. No joke. Dunking with stripped squid. Would have been a state record for 2012 had I gone to an official weigh station. The state record is 18.2# back in 1954.
So Danny was just dragging an egg lead with squid on his leader? Didn't even look like he was whipping lol. Is it mostly sand in there so no need worry about getting the hook and stuff hung up on the bottom?
This spot has a sandy channel where the boats go out but there is still lots of rocks and snaggy areas. Its super deep though so im giving the lead plenty time to sink without pulling the lead inward into rocks just letting the lead sit where ever it lands. The technique i basically learned from papa joe olivas. Just cast and let the weight sit very "softly" on the rocks. It's something that cannot be taught through words. But years of lost leads Trial and error.
@@shakadanny3518 Wow I really need to learn this trick. I've been watching some of uncle Joe's videos. Good stuff! So knowledgeable. He goes super fast with his words, though, so I try hard to pay attention 😂
I thought I was the only one who caught a he'e on a pole lol I was dunking off my uncle's boat outside honokohau harbor. I thought I hooked reef just dead weight and looked like a rock at first haha tako poke' that night!👍🤙

What size hooks do you guys use?
Not sure what he used on the bonefish there, I will ask Danny and get back to you!
Danny was using a size 6 circle hook.
Did you kill the toaus?
Yup, either grind them or turn them into bait, some times bury them and make primo soil too.

Alexsmoak808 one of the best episodes yet! good times bradda
Nice episode. Didn't know you had bonefish there. You guys ever fly fish for them?
No I did not know you could fly fish them! I thought they were bottom feeders.
Shaka Fishing They are probably hands down the biggest prized fly fish catch in the world.. at least your honest though lol
Fly fishing for them in the flats or shallow water is a huge thing. Just looked and they do that in Hawaii. Lots of websites about it.
I have a fly fishing rod I have never used too! I should take it out and sample some time!
What was the setup for the bone fish?
He nailed that one on a simple whipping rig like in our tutorial video and a piece os squid instead of a grub.
rudeboysosh 💪🎣
"How you release the grips" "uhh just open it" 😂😂😂 shmood one

What weight can you reccomend if it's in a rocky surface? I'm a newbie at this hope you can help me. I really enjoy watching your vids. Keep it up fan from the Philippines 🤙
Mahalo nui loa! How far you need to cast? You are almost always going to loose the lead in rocky areas if you dunk. If you whip I would say .5oz.
I’m a newbie at fishing so I have no idea on how far but maybe about 10 feet from the shore line like in the video. And also it’s a bit windy and my line keeps getting flown away is .5oz suitable for huge winds?
Kapono looking good in the uniform
