I own the launch edition of this car. 4 ninety-eight percent of drivers 98% of the time this car is truly amazing. For the money nothing else comes close in terms of livable flickable fun driving. it's only weakness, if you could call it that, is when you push all the way to the Limit I mean a hundred percent. If you do that all the time there are coilover kits from Fox and Ohlin which can stiffen it up a bit. But for mountain driving, back road fun, the the suspension setup is comfortable without sacrificing grip and feel. This is a car that is making me consider selling the motorcycle. It's that much fun to drive. I race a spec Miata and that will still be my track toy.
Yeah I'm 6'2, sat in one of these at the auto show, could actually peek above the windshield. I'm worried the roof could hit my head when it folds down.
That red with orange undertones in the sun is stunning. Also, targa tops > convertibles... I much prefer having some roof behind my head. But that smiling front end... not so much.
I have the soft top. It has plenty of power. I'd actually like a little more brake. Yep it's my only car! Very comfortable for an average height person. That red RF is gorgeous.
I completely agree with your assessment of convertibles these days! I'm 6'3" and I cannot find a proper fitting convertible! The SL class I do fit in comfortably, but who has that kind of money?
When they came out i was in my eary twentys ,ran down to get one they where 13600. Sat in it and was looking over the windshield ,im 6'3" . Having had nissans that where small with plenty of room inside i never though about fit.
Envy Sam true but it's a very different car. One is super light and good at its limit. One is cheap power but not that good on the twisty stuff. It's your my new and you're choice!
Great video! One quick question, I am 6'4 and interested in this car. Would it be too tight for someone of my height? Granted I am pretty slim so I doubt that would be a problem. Thanks!
After test driving manual transmissions in Mazda mx-5 club and standard, Porsche Cayman, Nissan 370Z, Toyota F86, Mustang V8, Camaro 4 turbo, Camaro V6, Camaro V8, Corvette, I purchased a 2017 Corvette. The Mazda mx-5 manual transmission is unreliable (go to Mazda website for TSB on mazda mx-5). I bought a red 2017 Corvette 1LT manual transmission with performance exhaust, black wheels, red calipers, red seats, carbon badge package.
This thing has been out for a while, local dealer has been selling them since Nov. Don't like it at all, will likely soon buy the softtop if that dealer ever gets those in. BTW, that dealer does have a white RF available.
Love that hard top conv! This is a "2 miles an hour so e'erybody sees you" car. 😉 (lyrics from "Summertime", DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince (Will Smith))
I'm cheap so I'm just waiting for Mazda to put the 7" infotainment system in the Miata sport and I'll jump on one. That base radio head unit is so ugly I can't stand the sight of it lol! Until then I'll be enjoying my '91 NA
I do appreciate the ability to tweak some vehicle settings on that infotainment system though. (stuff like maintenance schedule, auto "walk away" door locks, 3 flash turn signals, etc.) I'm guessing with the basic unit you'd need the dealer to tap into some vehicle settings?
On The Base MX5 the top takes 2 seconds to drop , it weighs 113 pounds less and cost $6000 less. Many will buy this. There are better ways to spend 32 grand in the sports car world.
fatboy19831 give me a sports car that handles just as well as the MX-5 for 32k. The sports car world is limited, and for something less than 32k, it’s impossible.
what do you mean sneak peek. they are available I test drove one and a few reviews are out. so wth carfection has had their full review out for a month on the RF so this embargo makes no sense.
lonewolf5460 may not make sense, but when Mazda pay the bill they get to set the rules. If TFL don't play by the rules that they agreed to then the invites to the test trips will dry up not just from Mazda but from the entire industry.
When compared to it's Italian "sister" the Mazda is clearly the way to go. It looks better, has more usable space and has an engine with smoother power delivery that will probably be more reliable. FCA = trouble.
Blakehx have you seen the Dr tribe review with the LS1 in it. that was the cloth top and it threw off the weight balance by 1% I figured since this car is heavier and mostly in the back it'll be perfect the swap in it would stay the same. and it's a proper swap you get back hydraulic power steering AC everything still works it's just stupid expensive you be looking at at 80k Miata out at once you're done. but so worth it
hello how are you all ... where is MAHA i don.t know how to write her name but i thought MAHA the nice women was with you long time on see her ON RUclips hope she is well THANK YOU
s2k may be the question is what defines fast to you. If you like a car that's very fast of the line or good at the straight, tight 90, straight then this car is not super quick. But if fast to you is on the limit on a twisty undulating road this this is fast fun. Not as fast as a 911 but fun is when you are on the limit and most people aren't comfortable on the road in an on the limit 911. These cars feel fast on a twisty road.

I think that it looks great. I fell in love with it the first time that I saw the commercial for it.
Man, it looks epic!

Thanks for the quick look. I hope to see the full review when the embargo is over.
+MathGuy you are most welcome
Nathan, it'd be nice to see what you think about posssible blind spots please.

Black on black on black ... would be my choice ... Gorgeous car
Mazda Miata is the only foreign car I'd ever buy. There's no other car in the entire world like it.
If only it was actually little more affordable.
Guido sounds like the base soft top is the one for you.
Envy And 1300 more pounds.
It is compared to the rare competitors.
Envy Sam true but it's a very different car. One is super light and good at its limit. One is cheap power but not that good on the twisty stuff. It's your my new and you're choice!
Under 35k you must make a choice high power or low weight. You cant have both.
I would like the see the hardtop on the 124
How is the sound isolation with the top up on highway speeds?
I saw a couple of press test MX-5 RFs on the freeway this week, unfortunately didn't run into Roman~ Hi there, Roman!
+MBAMG65 Roman says Hi Back
in the market at about 25k. 35k is getting into luxury car territory and I couldn't do it.
just add the 525hp LS3 conversion from Flying Miata and then the power would be adequate
What's the measured db difference between rf and soft top?
looks pretty cool. not much head to head competition either
Tommy looks like a better match for the Miata.
Jeep Wrangler needs a top like this.
Great video! One quick question, I am 6'4 and interested in this car. Would it be too tight for someone of my height? Granted I am pretty slim so I doubt that would be a problem. Thanks!
Does this mean we can expect a Fiat 124 RF?
it does need not power, that's why there was a mazdaspeed Miata. it had 170hp
BTW why no review of Lincoln Continental? You aleo never reviewed MK-Z if I'm not mistaken.
Jaroslav Záruba. Does anyone ever review Lincolns? Infinities?
-Suburban- They reviewed Navigator for example.
Safety? Can it take a hit and survive?

How come all the Miata reviews are in San Diego
+Naveed Ahmed that's where Mazda decided to let us test drive the car
Shouldn't we be calling this a targa? I think it looks really good, by the way.
Such a great looking car. I want mine in white please.
Love that hard top conv! This is a "2 miles an hour so e'erybody sees you" car. 😉 (lyrics from "Summertime", DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince (Will Smith))
Why is there an embargo? My neighbor has a brand new one Sitting in his driveway.
+adam yes, we wondered the same thing thus Roman gave some strong hints about the car
For me it's the better looking MX-5 - only the head lamps could be more attractive.
I'm cheap so I'm just waiting for Mazda to put the 7" infotainment system in the Miata sport and I'll jump on one. That base radio head unit is so ugly I can't stand the sight of it lol! Until then I'll be enjoying my '91 NA
rainystorm88 the cheap head unit plays Bluetooth. I added a sat radio tuner. I have no desire for the computer on the dashboard.
I do appreciate the ability to tweak some vehicle settings on that infotainment system though. (stuff like maintenance schedule, auto "walk away" door locks, 3 flash turn signals, etc.) I'm guessing with the basic unit you'd need the dealer to tap into some vehicle settings?
30k+ is crazy expensive for a 155hp car
James Shuster 30k+ is a good deal for one of the best handling cars out there.
Love the car but $32000 I don't think so
2:51 those swirl marks tho

+lonewolf5460 This was part Mazda's North American launch event for the car. Embargo is March 13th. Mazda invited us and we are playing by the rules.
2:51... dem swirls
Awesome car
I don't think you should call something a "review" if you can't talk about how it drives. At best, that's a "Preview".
When compared to it's Italian "sister" the Mazda is clearly the way to go. It looks better, has more usable space and has an engine with smoother power delivery that will probably be more reliable. FCA = trouble.
yeah 36k for a miata is way to much what happened to mazda making affordable sports cars
That's not a flying buttress, that'd be a buttress. It is not flying but, it looks awesome.
wish it had blind spot warning.
Love it! Just needs a backseat and a turbo!
Blakehx have you seen the Dr tribe review with the LS1 in it. that was the cloth top and it threw off the weight balance by 1% I figured since this car is heavier and mostly in the back it'll be perfect the swap in it would stay the same. and it's a proper swap you get back hydraulic power steering AC everything still works it's just stupid expensive you be looking at at 80k Miata out at once you're done. but so worth it
+Blakehx its called an 2 series convertible and you can get one at your local BMW dealership
Anton Zuykov Ya pretty much... But a turbo (aka more power) makes everything better! A backseat isn't necessary but makes it more practical!
Blakehx The Miata definitely does not need a turbo. It outsteers many far more powerful cars including Lamborghinis.
hello
how are you all ...
where is MAHA i don.t know how to write her name but i thought MAHA the nice women was with you long time on see her ON RUclips hope she is well
THANK YOU
Love it👍
36k for 152 hp. I must be the pope
looks like a del sol
ouch 36k might as well buy 5.0 mustang for that money
Aviator Guy that is VERY EXPENSIVE for just a Miata lol
Stingray Viper like
Soft top for me. Targa style doesn't look right for me. Flying buttress = hella blind spot
did anybody even notice the guy? i didnt!
Heh, Emmy lives out of her Mazda??
Lived! When she was on a road trip across the country.
Gotcha. I was going to say she should share some of her tips, because there is no way I could look that well groomed living out of a car!
Did she post it on RUclips? That'd be great to watch her adventure!
It kind of competes with a boxster, only reason to get this instead of the boxster is money.
It's more masculine.
ok
I don't get this car. I'm sure it's fun to drive but for the money, I'd buy something faster. I had a s2000 and it still wasn't fast enough.
s2k may be the question is what defines fast to you. If you like a car that's very fast of the line or good at the straight, tight 90, straight then this car is not super quick. Nope I'll get this car , like it's supposed to be soft top
👩🏾👍🏾🔥🚙
Any taller and you would be getting a haircut
or fatter
😒 Needs more power.
D Fisher, it's a Miata, if you want power you just add power... the Miata can be whatever you want, but it may take a little work.
