  • It was a whole lot fun to test and review the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3, the successor of the mega-popular Speed 2; everyone's favourite tempo trainer from 2021. Should you upgrade to the new-and-improved Endorphin Speed 3? Watch the review to find out!

    \\what’s changed?
Fully redesigned, lightweight, breathable mesh upper
S-curve winged nylon plate has been 'reimagined'
    \\fit
If I had to describe it with one word, I’d say the Endorphin Speed 3 is ‘spacious’. Toe box is roomy in 3 dimensions (high ceiling) - plenty of wriggle room to move your toes around. My fave bit are the laces - they are soft and stretchy, allowing you to tighten your shoes without putting too much pressure on the top of the foot.
Collar is flexible - less padding to get in the way. Tongue is gusseted and lightly padded for even more comfort. There is no heel tab but it’s easy to slip in the shoes nevertheless. Foot sits in the midsole bed - allows for stability. Heel lockdown is better than in Speed 2, thanks to reworked angle of the rear section.
    \\midsole
The same PWRRUNPB foam as in Speed 2 but more of it. The foam is super soft - I remember I used to hate the OG PWRRUN foam as it was hard AF. The second iteration of the shoes used the softer PWRRUNPB foam, and guess what: it was super popular.
Embedded in the middle is the S-curve winged nylon plate. This is Saucony’s answer to carbon plates and it definitely works better in the soft foam, HOWEVER, if you’re after propulsion, the nylon plate is not stiff enough to provide that. The sole is too flexible to provide that ‘proper’ carbon plate push.
The nylon plate will help a little bit, but the Speed 3 is not a super speedster shoe.
    \\outsole
XT-900 rubber outsole pattern - could be a bit more of it, and it could maybe cover a bit more of the medial/lateral side of the forefoot as the midsole has no grip at all. On the flipside, the shoes don’t pick up dirt/rocks which helps keep the weight down on longer mixed terrain runs.
    \\toe spring
Gentler toe spring allows for more gradual roll and longer gait cycle.
    \\flexibility
Despite the inclusion of the curved s-plate, the Speed 3 is pretty flexible, especially under the forefoot. Torsional stiffness is more pronounced in the mid-section, allowing the forefoot to move around more freely.
    \
    unning experience
The Speed 3 is soft and super comfortable to run in. I went with half size up because I couldn’t source the ‘right’ size - but as it turns out, half size up is equally as comfortable to wear as my normal size; it might be worth remembering for future purposes.
I must confess, I didn’t feel the speed in the shoes. The foam is lovely and soft which helps preserve the legs, but the nylon plate is not stiff enough to push you forward quite as much as carbon plates. Is this an issue? Not really. The Speed 3 is faster than non-plated shoes; it’s just not as fast as stuff like the Nike ZoomX Streakfly and the likes.
The best thing about the Speed 3 is that my feet didn’t feel restricted in any way when running in the shoes - there is more than enough space in the shoes for your feet to expand into. My only criticism - and this has long been the case with FORMFIT - is that the reinforced bit at the front of the upper keeps the material away from your foot which affects lockdown.

Thanks for Saucony UK for providing me a review sample (please note: the review is completely independent of Saucony, and reflects my true and honest opinion of the shoes).
    Thanks for watching!

Great review! Bit of a weird question. Is the Speed 3 good for daily walking? Is the Nylon plate stiff and uncomfortable at walking pace. This shoe seems very flexible and nice. Any help will be appreciated😄

In endorphine pro 3, you wear a UK 10, but in speed 3, you go up to 10.5. Why is that?

Excellent question! Saucony didn't have a size 10 sample of the Endorphin Speed 3, only a size 10.5, and they asked me if I wanted to give it a try despite it might being too big. It was actually fab. After trying the Pro 3, I feel the size 10 would have fitted equally as well 👌
