The way I've always seen it between Mitch and Dimash is that, while Dimash is technically on par or even better than Mitch...when I listen to his music I say "wow that was beautiful" and never feel that pull to listen again. When Pentatonix version of the prayer first came out everybody was thinking it would be their fourth Grammy, but because of the time of year it came out it put it out of contention for that year and the whole album was nominated the following year. I absolutely love this version. For those of us who love Superfruit, hearing the combination of Mitch and Scott singing together again was Beyond mind blowing. Especially since this was a more serious song, but they never sounded better. And YOU, this retired nurse was actually yelling at the screen for you to breathe in a couple of sections. I have been battling my own cardiac issues so I completely understand, but if you don't breathe and I have to yell at you it's not good for me either LOL I haven't commented before on your videos, but I have been watching them and they are so much fun. Keep up the good work ✌❤😎

I listened to the other two contestants and, although wonderful, this Pentatonix version is the best. Dimash is good, but I can listen to Mitch over and over. Scott is is great with his part. Wait, all five of them are great. This video gets the like. I will listen to the rest of the competition tomorrow. I see there are five contenders now. Recommend their “Pentatonix - The Recording Of Evergreen”. It shows how this and other songs were made for their Evergreen album.
I have listened to Pentatonix’s version of “ The Prayer” way too many times to count. And, it will be a total privilege to listen to this beautiful rendition over & over again. They have phenomenal talent and personalities to match. They are so humble and never try to out do each other. They support one another and complement each one’s talent, beautifully. Pentatonix are perfectionist and will always give you their best. Mitch has a way of just mesmerizing you with his angelic voice. This group brings out your emotions so effortlessly. I have heard Celine and Andre, Charlotte Church, and others, my absolute favorite hands down is Pentatonix. Mitch has a beautiful, pure countertenor voice, just perfect ❤. Just the perfect way to end my evening, thank you Debbie.
So so glad that you did this one. This PTX version of The Prayer is beyond magnificent. The fact that this is A Capella is beyond amazing. The arrangement is perfection. Mitch totally owns this as he starts singing with such conviction and strength, the notes he hits and holds, his precision, his timing, his runs (running up or down the scales) and his vibratos (the vibratos are those "little wavy things" that he does at the end of the note" - it brings tears to my eyes every time while giving me hope for a better world. Scott coming in with the Italian with such operatic performance is stunning. Kirstie with her sharp vocals and belting vibrato. Matt with that bass undertone. Kevin with the vocal percussion and snares and clashing cymbals. The solos, the duos, the call and response, the PTX Wall of Sound the crescendo and then the pure clarity of Mitch again. This song was on the Evergreen Album that was nominated for a Grammy and should have been a winner. Your facial expressions said it all. Every time that you paused and commented, I kept thinking, oh boy, she doesn't know what else is coming. It just gets better and better as it goes along. PTX are masters of their craft and beyond excellent. So glad that you enjoyed this. Hope you do more PT.X.
Every time the music was playing I kept yelling "BREATHE! BREATHE!". Every time I hear Mitch sing this I think back to hearing him tell the story about how he was bullied for his voice in school. He really showed them up. Great reaction! Thanks Debbie!

When they were on a talent show you'll have to look it up and find the 12th in the sing off you'll really fall in love with Mitch. That's the one where the judges tells mitch the laugh is on the bulliers to Mitch when he was in school.
I've come to love your reactions. The "Wavy thing" that they do with their voice is called a "run". I love their runs too. This is (IMO) Their best work to date. It's flawless.
@@kimmyf1054 I respectfully disagree. A Vibrato is the quivering of the vocals as they singer holds a note ( Mitch's section of "lead us to a place, guide us with your grace." There is vibrato in the words "place and grace" A run is when the singer sings series of notes that are sung in quick succession and stand out from the music. Mitch's section of "When we lose our way" He holds the note on the word 'Way" and adds a series of notes. That is a run. I promise I'm right on this.

So Celine and Andre/Josh were my standard for this song for years. It's a high standard. Then Mitch told Celine to hold his beer on lead and ptx did this with gorgeous floating arpeggio with soft bell tones in acapella. Scott did a solid in Italian. This gets my vote and I listened to admired all of them. The sisters get my second place vote because I love sibling resonant harmony.

When this song cover first came out, I listened to it about 20 times in a row and instantly became a Pentaholic. This is utter perfection-a masterpiece beyond masterpieces. I prefer Mitch to Dimash. You are right that there aren’t adequate words to describe their talents.💜

Because they have Mitch and his counter tenor voice they really have the ability to perform songs with multiple and or strong female parts. All their ranges allow them to do things that other groups just can't. In this song at about 3:10 on the video they just go total wall of sound and sing 'sky' they sound almost like a pipe organ.
I love this version of The Prayer the best. So many parts of this are stunning, but I love the dueling belts between Mitch and Kirsti. I also love the ending. It sounds like the prayer just floats up into heaven.
You know... There is really no reason to listen to the others. This is the best. . But I am biased. Mitch reaches into your chest and squeezes your heart with his pure angelic voice! Of course you got chills...it's Mitch!!!!! This is my all time favorite version because of their vocals( and the video is amazing too) I played this video constantly when our rental apartment got sold and we had 60 days to move. We had no idea where we'd end up, as rents around here are insane. This song was my guiding light til we got another place.
I believe the name you were searching for is Scott. Scott is the tall blond guy who was singing in Italian. Don't let Mitch slaps worry you; they happen to all of us. You think you know what Mitch is capable of and the next time you hear him you find out that no, you didn't know, and you get Mitch slapped all over again - Mitch is full of surprises. The important thing is to always remember to breathe. You're right about Kirstin's hair in this one; it's always impeccable but I think she put in some extra effort this time, because "The Prayer" is so special. Kirstin can sing as high as Mitch, maybe a bit higher, but she seems to specialize in really belting out the high notes - listen to her solo in "Seasons of Love" for an example. Mitch is the ideal choice when you want ethereal high vocals. Kevin could also have done this - his falsetto register is gorgeous - but he also doesn't seem to do ethereal vocals. His voice was best used on harmony, as was Kirstin's, and then when it's needed she steps in to support Mitch's voice and make his part even more powerful. Wonderful arrangement. Everyone doing what he or she does best, as always with Pentatonix.
IMO, No one can beat this. I love Celine and Josh Groban but NOTHING can top Mitch's ease and stunning highs along with all of PTX and their mesmerizing harmonies. They have been gifted and blessed from the beginning. They have my vote. Another incredible reaction from you too. Thanks.

I think ‘vibrato’ is the word you’re looking for, and it’s a skill they all have beautifully mastered. Sharing the ‘call and response’ between Mitch, Kirstie and Scott was genius and only possible because of the incredible range they each have. The ‘wall of sound’ they are famous for does not disappoint either. And we need more Baritone Scott…Italian or not.
You said it yourself, Pentatonix ist mindblowing. Obviously Celine is worldclass too, but nothing and nobody beats Pentatonix. They are just unique and it doesn´t get any better. So they get my vote, again and again.

I sang for over 10 years, most of it A Cappella style. It is hard to do right. No starting notes, no support notes along the 'journey' which is performed live. Blocking is always an issue with Pentatonix, but you can made it very transparent and us Pentaholics have seen the videos so often that it doesn't matter if it has a logo over it or its transparent. Dimash is technically probably the best singer in the world but his voice just doesn't move me the way Mitch's does. The to and fro between Mitch and Scott is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard in my life. Scott's voice is so soulful and it blends so beautifully with Mitch's high, clear, angelic voice! You should listen to some Superfruit (that's Mitch and Scott's side channel for slightly less family-friendly content). Their voices together just melt my heart. I would listen to their version of 'Rise' which they recorded with some other friends from the LGBTQ+ community in honour of the victims of the Pulse night club shooting. It's incredibly beautiful. I'm Pentatonic live for the first time in the UK in May (having been a Pentaholic since 2011!) I am so excited!
There's a wonderful moment in their mini documentary "The making of Evergreen" when they blow their own minds listening to this track in the production process. I think you'd love that video, it gives great insight to there process and sweetness as people.

When I saw Pentatonix's version was going to be reacted to first I wanted to warn you that these fantastic 5 people do NOT do covers, they do upgrades. I loved the original with Celine & Josh/Andrea, but the PTX version is my all-time favorite.

You really need to try and find videos of The Sing-Off first season, which Pentationix won (for obvious reasons) and you'll learn a lot more about this incredibly dynamic group! Also, they've been pretty consistent releasing Christmas albums, with original material, even.
The "'trill effect" Mitch uses in his voice, is either a "run" or a "vibrato", it depends on if he's just wavering on 1 note, or if he's "running" up or down a series of notes. In the beginning of the song the embellishment he put on the end of the verse was just a small run. At the end when he was echoing Scott, those were small runs. Kind of strange when people compare Mitch and Dimash...they sound and sing very differently, and although both are 6-7 range counter tenors....the timber of their voices are very different lending to very different styles of music. Mitch's voice is not really "smooth" more so clear, piercing and pure....Scott has a very creamy, smooth sweet spot in his range. And as others have said, when you hear Mitch sing and/or Mitch and Scott sing together...you want to keep coming back for more. Dimash's constant theatrics while he sings, tends to tire me of watching him. I've seen Josh Groban do this live, he and Celine's version and PTX tie for my favorite versions of this song. Plus PTX get extra credit, as they're doing all of this with just their mouths....that's it. I imagine the other 3 pics will have an orchestra backing them...unless one is El Divo...

Love your reactions! I listened to all of them in one evening. The sounds you’re referring to are (I think) two different sounds; at the end of a note it’s called vibrato, in the middle of a note it’s called a run. Personally, I prefer Mitch to Dimash. I honestly think Dimash’s music all sounds the same. He is technically okay, but boring. Mitch is just different every time he performs and he has never stopped growing as an artist. Just my 2 cents. 😊
Mitch has superb control of the vibrato in his voice. If you like Celine Dion, you must check out Lara Fabian, who in my opinion is the best female performer, but so tragically underrated. She sings in a multiple of languages and will blow your mind with her control and emotion.
I think the term you are looking for is "vibrato." Line-up: Baritone (can reach bass and tenor notes as well; it is something like five octaves) Scott Hoying (Blond) Bass (from 2017 to present) Mass Sallee (From 2011-2017 = Avi Kaplan) Counter-tenor extraordinaire = Mitch Grassi (performs as a solo act under the name Messer) Alto/Soprano = Kirsti Maldonado (She is the lead in several of their songs, but one of my favorites is the PTX original "Be My Eyes." Beatboxer and lyric tenor = Kevin Olusola (Master cellist and all-around musician - also really smart. He was planning on med school before he joined Pentatonix.)
If you go to their concert, bring oxygen. They put on one heck of a show. When you said you were having a contest, but were watching Pentatonix' version first, my thought was that you should have put them last. Their upgrades are just too good to judge the rest fairly.

Please don't ever apologize for needing to take a break for your health - that is infinitely more important than any reaction you might be doing! While Mitch is probably the most popular singer in PTX (because he's got a fabulous voice - duh!), Kirstie has always been my favorite. Something about the tone and color of her voice just strikes a chord with me. My favorite part of this song is the call-and-echo that Mitch and Kirstie do (the one that starts at 09:37 in your reaction), and it's such a marvelous section for both of them - that Mitch sings (easily!) within a couple of tones of a talented mezzo-soprano like Kirstie, and that Kirstie can still belt out her notes at that level. Scott (tall blonde guy) singing in Italian using his lower register is also an unexpected treat for everyone hearing the song for the first time. Overall, it's just a marvelous performance from all of them!

I had to rewatch the Original Celine version to compare her runs with Mitch’s. Mitch’s was solid. The ticket are on sale now for their August September concert. Don’t wait too long. They often sell out.
Debbie, I can assure you that we Pentaholics don't care if you cover up the videos. We're looking at your expression when you get Mitch-Slapped, and we pretty much know the video by heart so please don't worry. We are ALSO well aware of the "Copyright Demons" problem that reactors have with Pentatonix. If you'd like some ideas on how other reactors deal with PTX videos, there are plenty out there to view. I wish I could give you some tips myself, but I'm not a RUclipsr.

@@kimmyf1054 I respectfully disagree. A Vibrato is the quivering of the vocals as they singer holds a note ( Mitch's section of "lead us to a place, guide us with your grace." There is vibrato in the words "place and grace"
A run is when the singer sings series of notes that are sung in quick succession and stand out from the music. Mitch's section of "When we lose our way" He holds the note on the word 'Way" and adds a series of notes. That is a run.

So Celine and Andre/Josh were my standard for this song for years. It's a high standard.
Then Mitch told Celine to hold his beer on lead and ptx did this with gorgeous floating arpeggio with soft bell tones in acapella. Scott did a solid in Italian.

When this song cover first came out, I listened to it about 20 times in a row and instantly became a Pentaholic. This is utter perfection-a masterpiece beyond masterpieces. I prefer Mitch to Dimash. You are right that there aren’t adequate words to describe their talents.💜

Because they have Mitch and his counter tenor voice they really have the ability to perform songs with multiple and or strong female parts. All their ranges allow them to do things that other groups just can't.
In this song at about 3:10 on the video they just go total wall of sound and sing 'sky' they sound almost like a pipe organ.
I love this version of The Prayer the best. So many parts of this are stunning, but I love the dueling belts between Mitch and Kirsti. I also love the ending. It sounds like the prayer just floats up into heaven.
You know... There is really no reason to listen to the others. This is the best. . But I am biased. Mitch reaches into your chest and squeezes your heart with his pure angelic voice! Add in the Baritone of Scott, Epic sounds from Kevin, rich base of Matt and Kirstie power .. incomparable! 🩷🩷 And the are on tour in Aug and Sept so hope you can go!!

This is my all time favorite version because of their vocals( and the video is amazing too) I played this video constantly when our rental apartment got sold and we had 60 days to move. We had no idea where we'd end up, as rents around here are insane. This song was my guiding light til we got another place.

Don't let Mitch slaps worry you; they happen to all of us. You think you know what Mitch is capable of and the next time you hear him you find out that no, you didn't know, and you get Mitch slapped all over again - Mitch is full of surprises. The important thing is to always remember to breathe.
You're right about Kirstin's hair in this one; it's always impeccable but I think she put in some extra effort this time, because "The Prayer" is so special.
Kirstin can sing as high as Mitch, maybe a bit higher, but she seems to specialize in really belting out the high notes - listen to her solo in "Seasons of Love" for an example. Mitch is the ideal choice when you want ethereal high vocals. Kevin could also have done this - his falsetto register is gorgeous - but he also doesn't seem to do ethereal vocals. His voice was best used on harmony, as was Kirstin's, and then when it's needed she steps in to support Mitch's voice and make his part even more powerful. Wonderful arrangement. Everyone doing what he or she does best, as always with Pentatonix.
IMO, No one can beat this. I love Celine and Josh Groban but NOTHING can top Mitch's ease and stunning highs along with all of PTX and their mesmerizing harmonies. They have been gifted and blessed from the beginning. They have my vote. Another incredible reaction from you too. Thanks.

I think ‘vibrato’ is the word you’re looking for, and it’s a skill they all have beautifully mastered. Sharing the ‘call and response’ between Mitch, Kirstie and Scott was genius and only possible because of the incredible range they each have. The ‘wall of sound’ they are famous for does not disappoint either. And we need more Baritone Scott…Italian or not.
You said it yourself, Pentatonix ist mindblowing. Obviously Celine is worldclass too, but nothing and nobody beats Pentatonix. They are just unique and it doesn´t get any better. So they get my vote, again and again.

I forgot how powerful singing A Cappella is for a performance. Been a fan ever since hearing them sing 'Hallelujah'. I sang for over 10 years, most of it A Cappella style. It is hard to do right. No starting notes, no support notes along the 'journey' which is performed live. No re-takes, you can't mess up.

When I first heard this a year ago, I said this was Mitch's song to sing. They all were fantastic, has to be one of my favorites!
Blocking is always an issue with Pentatonix, but you can made it very transparent and us Pentaholics have seen the videos so often that it doesn't matter if it has a logo over it or its transparent. Dimash is technically probably the best singer in the world but his voice just doesn't move me the way Mitch's does. The to and fro between Mitch and Scott is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard in my life. Scott's voice is so soulful and it blends so beautifully with Mitch's high, clear, angelic voice! You should listen to some Superfruit (that's Mitch and Scott's side channel for slightly less family-friendly content). Their voices together just melt my heart. I would listen to their version of 'Rise' which they recorded with some other friends from the LGBTQ+ community in honour of the victims of the Pulse night club shooting. It's incredibly beautiful. I'm Pentatonic live for the first time in the UK in May (having been a Pentaholic since 2011!) I am so excited!

There's a wonderful moment in their mini documentary "The making of Evergreen" when they blow their own minds listening to this track in the production process. I think you'd love that video, it gives great insight to there process and sweetness as people.

Ever since I discovered PTX on the Sing Off 10+ years ago, music has not been the same for me. Nobody hold a candle to them for me anymore and that is saying a lot because I have always enjoyed many different musical styles and artists. PTX just is in a league of their own and they never disappoint. This is by far my favorite cover of The Prayer.

When I saw Pentatonix's version was going to be reacted to first I wanted to warn you that these fantastic 5 people do NOT do covers, they do upgrades. I loved the original with Celine & Josh/Andrea, but the PTX version is my all-time favorite.

You really need to try and find videos of The Sing-Off first season, which Pentationix won (for obvious reasons) and you'll learn a lot more about this incredibly dynamic group! Also, they've been pretty consistent releasing Christmas albums, with original material, even.
One learns not to "expect" with Pentatonic- just love and enjoy!!!

The "'trill effect" Mitch uses in his voice, is either a "run" or a "vibrato", it depends on if he's just wavering on 1 note, or if he's "running" up or down a series of notes. In the beginning of the song the embellishment he put on the end of the verse was just a small run. At the end when he was echoing Scott, those were small runs. Kind of strange when people compare Mitch and Dimash...they sound and sing very differently, and although both are 6-7 range counter tenors....the timber of their voices are very different lending to very different styles of music. Mitch's voice is not really "smooth" more so clear, piercing and pure....Scott has a very creamy, smooth sweet spot in his range. And as others have said, when you hear Mitch sing and/or Mitch and Scott sing together...you want to keep coming back for more. Dimash's constant theatrics while he sings, tends to tire me of watching him. I've seen Josh Groban do this live, he and Celine's version and PTX tie for my favorite versions of this song. Plus PTX get extra credit, as they're doing all of this with just their mouths....that's it. I imagine the other 3 pics will have an orchestra backing them...unless one is El Divo...
Mitch has a way of pulling feelings out of you with his voice! He's angelic. Their songs and covers will pull feelings out of you. Can't wait to see them in August!! You really need to hear Mitch's solo cover of Your Power by Billie Eilish, HE IS PERFECTION in it!!!

Love your reactions! I listened to all of them in one evening. The sounds you’re referring to are (I think) two different sounds; at the end of a note it’s called vibrato, in the middle of a note it’s called a run. Personally, I prefer Mitch to Dimash. I honestly think Dimash’s music all sounds the same. He is technically okay, but boring. Mitch is just different every time he performs and he has never stopped growing as an artist. Just my 2 cents. 😊
Mitch has superb control of the vibrato in his voice. If you like Celine Dion, you must check out Lara Fabian, who in my opinion is the best female performer, but so tragically underrated. She sings in a multiple of languages and will blow your mind with her control and emotion.

If you go to their concert, bring oxygen. They put on one heck of a show. When you said you were having a contest, but were watching Pentatonix' version first, my thought was that you should have put them last. Their upgrades are just too good to judge the rest fairly.

While Mitch is probably the most popular singer in PTX (because he's got a fabulous voice - duh!), Kirstie has always been my favorite. Something about the tone and color of her voice just strikes a chord with me. My favorite part of this song is the call-and-echo that Mitch and Kirstie do (the one that starts at 09:37 in your reaction), and it's such a marvelous section for both of them - that Mitch sings (easily!) within a couple of tones of a talented mezzo-soprano like Kirstie, and that Kirstie can still belt out her notes at that level. Scott (tall blonde guy) singing in Italian using his lower register is also an unexpected treat for everyone hearing the song for the first time. Overall, it's just a marvelous performance from all of them!

I had to rewatch the Original Celine version to compare her runs with Mitch’s. Mitch’s was solid. The ticket are on sale now for their August September concert. Don’t wait too long. They often sell out.
Debbie, I can assure you that we Pentaholics don't care if you cover up the videos. We're looking at your expression when you get Mitch-Slapped, and we pretty much know the video by heart so please don't worry. We are ALSO well aware of the "Copyright Demons" problem that reactors have with Pentatonix.
If you'd like some ideas on how other reactors deal with PTX videos, there are plenty out there to view. I wish I could give you some tips myself, but I'm not a RUclipsr.
