    Settings should be the very first option everyone should access.

      Need subtitles? Well wouldn't it be great to only allow you to put them on after the intro cutscenes? I'm sure you haven't missed anything important

    And then there’s Space Marine 2 where you have a title screen, main menu, and when you click new game, it goes “whoa buddy, hold your horses, you didn’t even look at the settings. Here, let me open it for you”.

    REAL. Literally, all i want is to go straight to the title screen, man. I ALSO prefer not to be deafened and to turn on subtitles. It's literally the first thing I go for every time, even before graphic settings.

    That subtitle thing is the part that really gets me when games do this. The volume mixing in a lot of games can make it hard to hear some of the dialog in cutscenes. Also I remember there was a time where it was basically impossible to view the start up cutscene with a different dub because the by the time you get access to the voice language options, you could never view the cutscene again.

    Absolutely agreed. It's both interesting and concerning how many developers (for all types of software) just don't care about user convenience at all. They think of something quirky and they want to implement it, regardless of how annoying it can be for users.
    Also can never get over just how cute and adorable this model is.

  • @Slugbunny
    @Slugbunny 3 дня назад +7

    Fully agree. Utterly aggravating to not have access to settings first. Some games even disable them in the unskippable forced tutorial start.

  • @FlufLord
    @FlufLord 3 дня назад +11

    Another dub take from geegs. I thought it was gonna be the classic of opening a game to have your eardrums eviscerated by unskippable, unmutable title screen music at 4000% volume, but this is similar.

    Another thing i hate is if motion blur starts on. Most modern games automatically optimize the settings so i usually don't have to worry about that so it's annoying to go to the settings for every new game just to turn motion blur off.

    Then there's the other end of the spectrum, some games need like 10 clicks (or "any key") to get through logos and into the menu screen. And then there's my personal pet peeve: games with a login where, when you quit the game, it throws you to the login screen, a forced loading bar, next quit button, and then the launcher pops up in your face once you're finally out of the game. Thank dog for force quit

    • @amiablereaper
      @amiablereaper 3 дня назад

      League is so fucking annoying for that last thing
      I either quit your game because I have shit to do or I ragequit
      Either way the Fullscreen riot launcher is the LAST thing I want to see

  • @FflawedMetalhead

    So true. I keep my monitor brightness fairly low because my eyes are a bit more sensitive to light than others, so if I don't get a game-brightness setting right off the bat, then I may miss a lot of the environment, or characters that are in the background and not well lit. Subtitles too - They should be on by default.

  • @lurakin88

    THANK YOU
    the amount of games that launch with the wrong resolution, deafening audio and shitty "auto detected" settings is aggravating

  • @Lahdee

    I noticed this happens more with Western games especially those going for a "cinematic" experience. As one of the gamer boomers, I never switched off of inverted Y-axis because for so many console games that was the default/only option. So I need to access those settings immediately or I have to think about my right stick movement until it lets me change it.

    No subtitles at the start of the game but the narrator starts whispering the plot while loud music plays so you miss half of it

    Also trying to play the tutorial without accessibility settings can be really tough

  • @Warhawk2800
    @Warhawk2800 3 дня назад +1

    Even outside of streamers, they should really let you get to settings first for access to accessibility options before throwing you into the game for anyone who has need of them

  • @amiablereaper

    GOD yeah. I remember trying to pick up genshin and the game being completely unplayable because of the unskippable cutscene on startup that my laptop just COULD NOT RENDER

    1:16 This is why I always open the volume mixer on my 2nd monitor when I open a game for the first time. I instantly mute it, then once I get to the settings, I mute the volume in-game, unmute the game in the volume mixer, then slowly raise the volume in-game until it's comfortable. I hate it when mobile games do it too. The worst part is mobile games that have ads that'll override your volume settings to make you listen to the ad, even when you're playing on "Do not disturb" AND no volume 🤬.

    There are a lot of old games with audio settings, but they play their intro BEFORE loading settings. So you can get blasted with overwhelming noise before the game goes to a more normal volume, because they don't check your settings before starting stuff.

  • @tooFarGonexk4he4tu3s
    @tooFarGonexk4he4tu3s 2 дня назад

    And then there is Ultrakill that boots you into the settings menu which, to be fair, serves as the intro, but still convenient

    100%. I've been streaming demos and either there's a cutscene, crazy audio or... 3,000 FPS with my GPU working at 90-100%...
    At least with demos you know there's gonna be scuff, but with full games there's no excuse.

  • @danhibiki2

    Its even worse when it starts with raytracing and your gpu doesnt support it.

  • @yumri4

    Well 1 way to get around the first cut scene you will see once then never again when you open the game is you should have a type of video player so lets say "VLC" and as you are using most likely Steam it will be in steamsapp/common/ game name / videos or /movies depending on the game. A list of all the cut scenes will be in there. Every cut scene is just a video file. If you are worried about spoilers RUclips is better i guess as file names could give them though in most games not really.

    Also, developers, please add a skip tutorial option in the settings. Not everyone playing your game is doing so for the first time. On a repeat playthrough, the tutorials do nothing but annoy players.

    I also hate it and It's kind of ridiculous when these days even consoles have an extensive suit of options.
    First thing a game should do is throw you in a play test area that let's you set and test your graphics, controls, audio and accessibility settings and then just throw you into the title screen.

    Im hating tutorials that make me pissed at a free game. If you included a manual i could read that during the 50 hour update. That kills all good will i habe for you.

    Just put something that needs input to startvthe game if youre too lazy to add main menu separate from the pause menu. I dont play many recent games, but Receiver 2 with its annoyingly long to load despite the roguelike rooms. Gta 4 level of bad. And the dlc that actually makes it playable for someone with bad framerate(its a shooting range) has to load AFTER it drops you in the main roguelike mode.

    Either a title screen or at the very least a brightness slider. Sound volume is easy enough to jockey on the fly, and no subtitles is just whatever. But the default brightness is either staring into heaven or the floor of the Mariana Trench. I can't see!

    I hate that about some rpg maker type of games, there IS a title screen but your only selectable options are new game, continue and minor graphics options, if the game loads up and blasts your fucking ears with audio there is noway to turn it down in game until you get through the first cut scenes, and only after that it MIGHT allow you to open the menu for in game settings (sometimes it doesn't until you get through a tutorial). It's so infuriating.
