Chip and seal is common in a lot of places especially where you have freezing in winter the tar they spray on seals a lot of the cracks in pavement so water does not get in and freeze then breaking up the road then add small rock to cover tar and also give a new top surface.
You kids with your Toys - who knew that “Build It, Drive It, Break It, Fix It; Repeat!” applied to Vettes too! Chris is The Master! We missed y’all but glad you got some relax time…youDid get some relax time, right? LiteBriteNationGravelsAtOurFeat!
We live in Michigan, if youre not driving into potholes the size of a Corvette, you're hitting roads that are covered in loose stone, so we definitely know how you feel. Bonus, glad the owner gave you guys some money back for all of your troubles, also Chris to the rescue again! Lol
Chip and seal roads are the reason Utah is big on having tires not extend outside the wheel wells. But we love it here anyway. Thanks for the great videos.
So yea instead of changing hubs from 5x4.75 to 5x4.5 (5x114.3) for more applications, look into BMW tuner wheels (5x120), we were putting Hamann, MK Sport, Hartge, Racing Dynamics and AC Schnitzer wheels on GMs back in the early 2000's at MADE motorsport since most domestic wheel companies had nothing over 17". Great video Kev.
"I can't drive sports cars... I can't drive them civilly..." and that's why I own a Ferrari 458, an LS7 ZO6, and a 600+hp Supra... and hopefully soon, a pirate ship! Thanks, Britt for making Sunday morning wonderful again... Didn't mean to bust your chops too bad for taking a break. ;)
Kind of a mechanic myself, I work on A-10s Warthogs currently and hopefully a new missle system by then end of the year. I can also confirm alot of issues can be resolved by holding your mouth right 😆
They used to do that to the roads here, not for the weather, but because it was cheaper then doing proper repairs. They stopped doing it when asked "Is the council going to pay for the damage to the cars from the loose stones? What about liability when someone has an accident caused by half the road being loose over a patch, leading to a car to spin?" That's the thing with councils, they get very careful when folks start asking about Liability.
I think Chris's shirts should say, "I'm Here To Fix It" on the front, and "I'm Back To Fix It Again!" on the back. And a "nameplate" that says "Chris The Fixer". lol. I had a guy that did all my mud truck and ATV/UTV repairs for many years because I was either busy or I just didn't want/like doing certain repairs. lol.
7.40 "If you stick your tongue out, you can get it in there" That's what she said for sure! 😁 And they do this stupid road gravel stuff in europe too 🤦♂
It's called chip and seal. They do it at this time of year so people don't get their pretty cars all tarred up. If they do it in the hot part of the year the tar will stay in a liquid/firmy state and sling all over those pretty cars.
Living in Central Oregon my whole life, what they did your road was Chip Sealing. They did it my road out in Deschutes County in Redmond every vary late summer.
@@LiteBrite figured as much after I wrote that…🤣 Does that man ever get a break!! 🤣🤣🤣 Hopefully it’s something cool to make a video on. Keep up the great/entertaining work guys!
Chris is channeling his inner Jack Nicholson mixed with Jim Carrey with his quirky sense of humor. This car reminds me of what I had to go through. Back in the day I had like 6 toyota celicas. 85, 87 gts, 92 gt-4, like 3 94 celicas. In any event I would modify them, all that stuff... last one bought sight unseen but I did ask them to help me drive it like 2 hours following my other celica that I had at the time. Intent was to swap in a 3sgte engine in it so I was not that worried about how good it ran. Let me put it this way... it ran just long enough for them to get it from their house to I-75 interstate here in florida... like 6 miles and then it was DEAD. Don't ask me how quickly they abandoned me there. I finally got the tow truck to shuttle it like 8 hours later. XAT racing (I think they are closed now) did engine swap. Dyno tuned with front mount intercooler and EMS it was pushing 258 hp to the wheels. I could do burnouts in 4th gear at speed. It was insane. Eventually I had to grow up and get a truck. But literally everything was broken in the car... so I was sourcing parts from my daily driver celica just to keep my fancy celica on the road with a giant grin on my face. Back in those days I was engaged in all sorts of hoonery.
That’s called chip seal, in a few days they will show up and broom it. They usually broom it if the road which causes hell for the lawnmower but it you need some rock on your property that would be the time to get it.
Hah, that road looks just like what we had done over the last month at our place in Farmington, NM. They did come add more oil and cold pressed it with a big asphalt roller about a month after the initial pour like you have there. With all the work, no clue why they don't just put real asphalt down. Still have rocks flying off the tires every time we leave.
Here in Michigan also. Drives me insane trying to get around not hitting one of the roads. 1st they blacktop it beautifully you get all excited then they grind it throw rocks gravel and like you said, make us pack it down. I work to hard on my truck for this bleep.
Right when I got my license they tar and stoned a bunch of roads near me and I remember taking out my old rusty trusty ‘86 toyota pickup and “drifting”. 😂
Ahh….tar and gravel. They used to do many roads around us with tar and gravel. Tar and rocks thrown up on your car. Also, not to mention that the cars going the other way throw up rocks to chip your windshield. Sooo….Kevin you have a new appreciation for Chris?
I think we call that chip and seal. It will make a nice smooth surface in the near future. At least you don't live on a gravel road. I guess if you complain enough they will gravel it for you and then you will have something to complain about. The neighbors probably complained about the original road surface and that their neighbor was ripping up and down the road in their "souped-up" machines! LOL!!! J.R.
Sounds like the next vehicle you are gonna be getting is a steam roller(though no longer powered by steam-name still sticks around) so you can travel the road at a pace faster than walking.
Around our place they do patches this way. The problem is for motorcycles, as you have unexpected lose gravel everywhere. I'm wondering how many lawsuits our city has sustained.
We call that "tar and chip" here in Pa and Jersey. And I agree with you, it SUCKS. Owning motorcycles, I feel your pain of the chip.... That stuff is SLICK!!! Half of it seems to run off the road during a hard rain and end up in BAD spots... Such is life for the cheaper alternative to repaving.
Not that my opinion means anything but I miss what this channel used to be. I don’t mind some diversity in the automotive content but it was you guys and the extreme wheeling that brought a lot of us to the channel. I’m sure there will be a bunch of drifting videos coming and I’m not a hater on drifting but after about 5 minutes of track drifting content it gets kind of boring. Will still support you guys just would like to see those new motors in those Jeeps do some work.
Remember buying your dream car for your WIFE Kevin, and getting over invested in your dreams, not like this is a new thing. Hi Chris good to see i'm not the only one still using the tongue out skill development method pal, Hi Brittany, Hi Bec's 😘
In Ohio we call that Tar Pitting and it sucks! Rocks and tar all over your vehicles. If the person coming the other direction doesn’t care, you could easily be getting a new windshield.
that is chip sheal on your road. that stuff is absolutely horrible. they did that to my street in town and it sucks so bad. they will come down and top coat it, but that stuff will come up for years and years until they repave it. every time it's 90 degrees it sticks to everything.
Chip and seal is common in a lot of places especially where you have freezing in winter the tar they spray on seals a lot of the cracks in pavement so water does not get in and freeze then breaking up the road then add small rock to cover tar and also give a new top surface.
Yeah it’s super common
And many times they come back after a time to sweep up the loose rocks. So it'll be a good tire wrecking surface again.

Did Bec’s LJ ever get finished? Love the Jeep videos the best!
Out of all the things you have I wish I had a Chris, man that would be so handy! He can fix anything!
That road is called seal coating. It's a resurfacing method to waterproof and surface the road. It's very common
36:40. Thank you for calling Chris Cross towing and recovery. All of our agents are busy saving Kevin’s ass…. 😂
I love you guys, the Dynamic you 4 have is Fun... great friends... Chris cracks me up... "All you do is....." so funny
Kevin's face as he floors it. 😮😯😲
Kevin’s own video doing his own mods…… annnnnnnnnnnnd we’re on the side of the road!!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

@@tctennessee1722 Will do sir, they have been trying to retire the A10 since I started working on then in 2005. They refuse to get out of the sky.

Come on Kevin. You KNOW you gotta get it wet before you stick it. 😂😂
Looks like you need more drift cars then just one :D
1 is none ;)
I recently added a 99 c5 vette to my garage (inherited from my late father) to join my 2018 JLUR. Jeeps and Vettes are a nice mix.

In Cali we called that chiseled and I have a knee scar to prove it!! It sucks!!!
we call that road surface oil and chip. here in the midwest.
Build it, break it, fix it! (BBF) ❤

They just did the same road outside my place. Tore up asphalt and replaced it with that .... its great. My black mustang is constantly grey
It is what is called "chip n seal", over time it will get brushed off and back to norma

Kevin, it's called a chip seal on the road. ;o)
Here in PA they do thst chip and tar also. It's the counties way of saving money by being cheap with road repairs.
They call the road work Chip Sealing. They used to do that in town here in Arizona.
Gotta let Bec get some seat time as well!
It took me a minute to realize Kevin said BANDS & not Bans
There’s another 2-300hp if you pull the Tavarish face on the pulls😂

Roll the window up and down a few times i think. Mine does that when i disconnect battery. It should work after that.
Maybe you have to roll it down and back up and hold button up for 3 seconds. Something like that.
gee.... ii like it when the heads up speedo goes blury, then if the cops pull ya over you're covered...
I hate chip seal. It's decent for traction in the winter but it's rough on paint and windshields.

Similar to a cold patch like they do here in Indiana
