it completely solves the problem with superman movies where superman is entirely focused on lois. obviously there’s a lot of factors, but i think the main reason superman has been obsessed with lois in MoS, christopher reeve superman, etc. is that clark/superman doesn’t really have any friends. lois is essentially the only person he’s emotionally available for, which is super unrealistic for someone who’s supposed to be super charismatic. but hypothetically, the way you fix this is to give him superhero friends and friends around the office. it’s a really simple fix for a really weird problem
Like the comic books. There should be Clark heavy stories, (think Ironman 3, not a great movie but had good moments) like Superman heavy stories, and a little bit of both. The secret identity trope is tiresome because it was so overplayed in the past, but when it's well done, it can be cool.

The theme of reincarnation is quite prominent with Hawkgirl and should be an interesting narrative thread for her in future films. Mister Teriffic (who represents human ingenuity, intellect, and skepticism), could make a great foil to Hawkgirl’s more supernatural vibe. Guy Gardner deals with feelings of inadequacy and a chip on his shoulder that motivates him to become better. This make him pairing with Metamorpho so interesting because he deals with identity crisis and the resulting alienation he feels due to his particular powers. These four are all good picks as side characters for a Superman movie because Clark embodies some aspects of each character. His supernatural abilities sometimes struggle to coexist with his humanity, which in turn has caused Clark to deal with some amount of identity issues.
Not sure Guy Gardner is dying because of this: Regarding Fillion’s hair, Gunn said, “Giving my old pal Nate a bowl cut might have been my primary reason for casting him.” Gunn also clarified that Fillion’s Green Lantern is Guy and he will play him “in all parts of the DCU,” including The Green Lanterns show which is not separate and part of the same universe.
I think, narratively speaking, we’re going to see a number of cynical superheroes whose minds and outlooks are changed by Superman. The authority may be the ones Clark fights, but I think it’d be powerful to have Superman inspire other heroes to also be heroic, thus starting the age of heroes as the DCU gets going.
That's why he should be the first superhero then. He not only starts the age of superheroes but also sets the tone. Then as time passes and the world and ideals change, and a new breed of superheroes are on the rise, they challenge the traditional ways and Superman, as one of the few remaining of the old vanguard, has to show them they're wrong. Gunn is switching the timeline around which is certainly an interesting take but I'm not sure how effective that would be. Guess we'll see.
That sounds like a great idea. If they want to use Barry, they could have Clark and Barry have *that* Chess game and at the end both Barry and Clark learn something.
I do enjoy the tone James seems to be going for with this Universe. Seems almost like what DCEU tried to do. Marvel's approach seemed to be "okay, here's you're regular people universe (in cities you know) with this supernatural hero (and usually villain) added in" to show how unique they are by contrast to civilians. Then eventually start putting them all together. I like that DCU seems to be starting off with "Here's the world full of colourful characters, that already know each other and interact".
The animated universe that led up to Apokolips War was very much like that too, and it worked perfectly. We didnt get a bunch of solo movies, we just got Justice League War with a Batman who already knew of Superman and vice versa, GL and Flash knew of Batman like an urban myth, Billy knew Victor Stone through football. And they all just come together naturally very well. I love this approach to building a cinematic universe, everyone pretty much agrees that DC's animated stuff is great, this may be one of the key factors that helps live action live up to that
There are some legitimately funny and sincere moments in Dora that Merced pulls off that should not have worked. She feels like an actor who is just all-in in whatever role she's playing.
She’s generally good in whatever she’s in (even if the movie isn’t the best), still don’t love the idea of hawkgirl looking so young though. I know Aldis probably isn’t gonna carry over sadly but a female contemporary to his Hawkman would have been better
For the opposite end of the spectrum. Her and Benicio del Toro work well together and are pretty good in sicario: day of the Soldado. She’s also pretty heartwarming in Instant Family.
I think the idea of Ted Kord in Blue Beetle is that he is "missing." It seems like blue beetle is going to carry over to the new dcu, and if that's true I think there is huge potential for Ted Kord and Jaime to both show up in booster gold

My favorite part about this announcement is just how surprising it was. I don't think anyone predicted any of these characters to show up in this movie, much less all of them. And by having such an eclectic group of heroes it signals to me that this DC world has been lived in. No more needing to have an explanation for every single thing, we can just jump right in and roll with rhe punches. That's what I've always wanted from Superhero franchises.
I disagree but okay. To me it looks like Gunn rushing and over bloating his film and a messy film not about Superman. I think this film is doa hopefully I'm proved wrong.

I’m so excited for Hawkgirl to be in the Superman Legacy film because Hawkgirl and Superman have such a surprisingly sweet brothers-in-arms type relationship in Justice League
I know a lot of people are mixed on Nathan Fillion's casting as Guy Gardener, but you need to remember that age is not important as long as they nail the character. *Hiroyuki Sanada is 62 and playing Scorpion and Robert Downey Junior was 43 when first cast as Iron Man in 2008.* My point is just because he's in his 50s doesn't mean it will affect the GL lore in the DCU or limit the number of stories they can tell. I'm sure John and Hal will be in an ideal age group in their 20's to late 30's, remember that it doesn't limit their stories I love the casting for Metamorpho, Hawkgirl and Mr Terrific (really cool he's played by the same actor who played Darwin in X Men First Class) as well.
It is funny to me though that he’d be casted as Guy since he is actually the ideal age for Hal Jordan which is a dude old enough to get white in his hair

I think with the inclusion of Metamorpho it points to The Terrifics. I wouldn't be surprised if Hawkgirl is just a more recognizable stand in for Phantom Girl. Their role may be similar to Hawkman, Atom Smasher, and Dr. Fate's team in Black Adam. An established team that watches over earth meets Superman, who's new to the hero gig, so they try to recruit him, but he wants to do his own thing. His brand of justice is not their brand of justice. So they agree to work separately, but equally.
I trust James Gunn to bring the energy and heart of the justice league animated universe and personally I can’t wait to see that on screen, not a complete retelling, just havin that vibe, like how the batman really felt like the animated series, just flipped
I think there’s probably going to be a schism between the heroes in the movie, so that even if hawkgirl is in the authority and some of them like the city, controlling guy ends up being crazy, you know they’ll see superman and be like oh, maybe there is a better way of being a hero because the bunch of them just became a little too hard core over time. Thats how i see it going more or less.
I get the feeling that all our 'main' recurring heroes are going to be relative newcomers in their twenties or early thirties, because from a production standpoint that gives them room to age and means they'll more willing to sign on to long contracts at lower pay. From what we've heard I suspect that all these heroes will be a version of the JSA or JLA that already exists as Superman starts rising to prominence, and that instead of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman being the founders they will be the people who transition the JLA into a golden age of being proper heroes, rather than just metahumans doing their best.
I’m really hoping this is the case. I think it’s best for long term and to buy people as these characters. Go unknown/or hardly well known for Batman and Wonder Woman too.
What I like about Gunn's DC universe is that it's already established. I liked that the MCU started with Iron Man and we slowly got to see the avengers band together and the universe expand but I don't want to see that twice. The old DCU was screwed because they tried to compete film for film with Marvel in less time. Batman VS. Superman was supposed to compete with Civil War but Batman didn't even have a solo film before it's release. In this universe Superman has been doing this for a while and Batman has Damian in his movie which implies this is his fourth Robin (Dick, Jason, Tim). Not having to do origin stories gives this universe the freedom to do any movie they want and the audience can just assume the movies cannon is close to the comics.
Come to think of it, James Gunn's affinity for slightly off-kilter teams of screw-ups would translate really well to a JLI. Especially one centered on Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, and Guy Gardner.

In the comics, John Stewart was introduced when Guy Gardner went into a coma because the Lanterns needed a back up in case something happened to Hal. I bet the Elite or the Authority will put him in a coma, so the GL show will be Hal training John, and then Guy can wake up in time for JLI
I grew up with Guy Gardner as my Green Lantern (with the Batman Brave and the Bold show). So it is really exciting hearing he is around. I never clicked with John Stewart but I also tend to like snarkier characters, and Hal Jordan while snarky in the stuff I saw him in was constantly just being over-confident then crushed to near death then passed out for a lot of the fight.
You should make a video about all the different ages and how it affects the story: Superman is younger than Guy Guardian, Batman is supposed have a full fleshed batfamily and a son while being Superman age…etc

I would love to see Mr. Terrific be the through line character for a bunch of these movies. He could play a role as an independent agent who can investigate the heroes and give unbiased intel to the government. That is similar to the role he played in Strange Adventures which I think highlighted what makes him a unique personality in DC. It would make him a great foil for Waller while also being the human voice that keeps the heroes grounded.
I think Guy’s role is to be that machismo self-declared alpha type (like Lex), to contrast with nice guy Superman. And I don’t see him dying. Like in the comics, he’ll get mortally wounded (probably after getting his ass kicked by the villain) and the ring will find a temporary replacement in John (Eli Goree, 29, is my pick) Also, a little Hawkgirl with a savage metal mace sounds endlessly entertaining. And they should cast Elizabeth Debicki as Diana just for the contrast

John Stewart will probably be cast younger to contrast to Hal Jordan since they'll presumably have a rookie veteran dynamic. That way you have your pov character into the lantern corps and they can can do an origin thats also new.
I really like the idea of hawkgirl replacing swift, because I think if the authority were antagonistic to supes she could be the one that he is able to show a “better way” becuase she’s young and hopeful rather than a potentially older midnighter/ Apollo who’d be older than Superman and stuck in their ways… idk but I think you’re onto something Nando!
Love the video and all the ideas! I think you were on the money regarding Hawkgirl being a double-agent styled character. With regard to the castings as a whole I think Gunn is trying to setup a wide roster of characters early. He’s trying the inverse of Suicide squad’s approach: don’t kill them off. He shows us a dozen or so cameos per movie and then gauges fan reaction. And with a huge number of casting announcements he can bury the lede for who the actual players are in each story.
I think in James Gunn's dcu the terrific team members would be Guy Gardner, Mr terrific, Hawkgirl, and metamorpho that's why they have cast these actors
Gunn likes to cast his friends, so there’s pros and cons with that. With that said, these characters basically show that this world is a bit lived in so when we enter it, it’s essentially like entering Star Wars at episode 4 instead of entering it at episode 1. The characters essentially mean there’s a Hal Jordan somewhere, a Hawkman somewhere and people without powered fighting crime out there. I think these characters will get the Adam Warlock treatment and will have a much smaller role than we think they will have.
Seen several tweets from Gunn come out around the Metamorpho reveal. Basically the League already exists. Gunn has been saying this isn't a origin story 😅. Guess we really gotta believe him.
Nathan Fillion was born to play a Green Lantern, especially because he’s already voiced one for years. While he tends to voice Hal Jordan, in the DCAMU his personality leans towards Guy Gardner more than Hal.
I cam out of Bumblebee in 2018 and thought 'John Cena was born to play Guy Gardner'. Peacemaker was in limbo at the time so I would never have thought of him. Nathan Fillion in Guardians three did look as if he'd bulked up a bit, so on the basis of that I could see him. Anthony Carrigan though. Awesome in Gotham. And the moment I read the news I thought 'yeah, I can see it!'. Totally.
Mr. Terrific! I am so happy. One of my favorite characters ever. I really want to write a Mr. Terrific comic featuring Jakeem Thunder with a rightwing Johnny Thunderbolt who is stuck in the 60s as comic relief.
I’m assuming Gardner shows up because he’s currently the Lantern guarding sector 2814, which is why he shows up for whatever threat they’re facing, which also shows a living universe like Gunn has said. I would imagine Hal and John are both doing off world things we’ll learn about in the Lanterns series.
It would be kind of cool if instead of just getting all the Justice League together if instead they form all their own side projects and then come together It would differentiate this universe from the MCU which is based solely around the Avengers and the old DC universe
oof...Swift is Tibetan, calling her Chinese is, um, how do you say, _problematic?_ I knew _of_ the JLA but I really got to know them during the JLI run, so Guy, Booster, Ted Kord, and Ice and Fire hold a special place in my heart. At the time, my friend and I wished they had a sitcom starring those five (with Mr. Miracle and Big Barda as their neighbors and J'onn as their boss). If that's the JLA Gunn will introduce first (even if it's Jaime instead of Ted), I'm all for it. That way he can build up to the JLA eventually being formed by the Big 7
For a long time I've thought it'd be perfect to cast Nathan Fillion as Booster Gold with Alan Tudyk as Ted Kord Blue Beetle. Granted, they both might be a little bit too old now and Fillion is going to be Guy, but for a long time it felt like a pretty fun fit.

I think the problem with doing the Justice League International is that you need to establish the main justice league first, it'd be like doing West coast avengers before doing avengers, they'd just be the avengers.
This is huge and confirms a lot about the DCU, looks like it’s jumping right into a prime DC universe full of established characters. Fillion as Gardner is crazy, everybody always wanted to see him as Hal Jordan in his younger days and now he’s finally going to be (a) Green Lantern
So this is a universe starting when heroes are already a well established fact. What if the JL isnt founded yet, but its a world that knows the Justice Society that has dispersed with some of the members of the JS still around? And then the Authority shows up as a group to fill the void of no Justice Society, but they do some bad stuff and Superman has to figure out what to do with them, eventually forming the Justice League at the end of the movie.

I have mixed feelings about these, like on the one hand, I like, all the actors and characters chosen, but on the other, this is a Superman movie, and I was hoping we would get a chance to focus on a bunch of Superman supporting characters who haven’t gotten the screen time yet, and having all these other characters from the DC universe come in, might make the movie feel more like a DC universe movie than Superman movie, like I’ll hold my general opinion, until I see the movie because they could be cameos for all we know, but I just hope the focus stays on Superman, his supporting characters and villains

There's a good chance they won't even do Hawkgirl x John Stewart as that's mainly just an animated series thing and barely even happened in the comics, they even had her with Martian Manhunter at a time. But her main love interest is Hawkman who I honestly feel is the character they should have her with as their relationship is a major component to both of their characters, as the whole cursed destined lovers like half of their entire story.
I would’ve thought that we would hear something about John Stewart or Hal first since there most likely the main cast for the lantern show or even Kyle seeing as that he’s more popular than guy
Regarding Jack Hawksmoor, part of why he seems British is because he was named after the English architect Nicholas Hawksmoor, but everything I read in his appearances in Stormwatch and the Jenny Sparks series seemed to indicate he was American.
From what I’m aware the sleeves for Wolverine’s new suit were designed around Hugh Jackman’s skin sensitivity after his recent cancer treatment. Where he didn’t wanna leave his arms fully exposed.
Only thing about casting a younger John Stewart is that, at least in the JLU show, he’s a marine vet so you’d assume he’d be a bit older than that but I guess he could’ve just recently joined the GLs and not been in the marines that long

Have a weird theory: what if this is the Authority? I know we've all been expecting the Wildstorm version or that with some combo of the Elite but look at who we have here: Hawkgirl and Swift are practically the same character but her resurrection history could give her the long-lived adventurer background of Jenny Sparks Mr Teriffic is a scientific genius and a charismatic leader who can see a vision of a better world and convince others to join him in making it. Guy Gardner has much of the same abrasive personality of Jack Hawksmoore and the Engineer is basically a Green Lantern dupe. Metamorpho is connected to the elements like the Doctor and also an adventurer like Jenny Sparks. What if rather than having Superman, the Authority and all these heroes as well its Superman versus this group calling itself the Authority? They could still have Apollo and Midnighter but they could also swap them out for, I dunno, Bronze Tiger and -- fuck it, Mon-El? The Ray? Like I said its a weird theory but I wanted to put it out there.
What if you’re right about the lineup changes buuuut…… Legacy introduces a few heroes and waller, which leads to her talking him into starting the The Authority. On Batman’s end, in his movie as a B plot, he hears the whispering about it and looks up folks to start an “international Justice League” as a just in case measure. The authority (w/ hawk girl w/ her JLU Thanagar origins) does do what Bats predict in their movie. During which, something happens to Hal, so GG steps in. They end up breaking up likely due to GG overstepping in The Authority movie and gets suspended due to his actions, causing John Stewart to have to step in during the green lantern corps. Hawk Girl gets close Stewart and starts the love story through various B-plots while also laying the crumbs to the formation of the ACTUAL Justice league. They form. Then boom. Justice league movie is the Star-Crossed plot from JL/JLU w/ hawkgirl and Thanagar as the villain(s).

Sleeves are there cause Hugh Jackman’s prone to skin cancer, and filming in the sun puts him at risk, at least according to what I heard.

Not sure Guy Gardner is dying because of this: Regarding Fillion’s hair, Gunn said, “Giving my old pal Nate a bowl cut might have been my primary reason for casting him.” Gunn also clarified that Fillion’s Green Lantern is Guy and he will play him “in all parts of the DCU,” including The Green Lanterns show which is not separate and part of the same universe.
I think, narratively speaking, we’re going to see a number of cynical superheroes whose minds and outlooks are changed by Superman. The authority may be the ones Clark fights, but I think it’d be powerful to have Superman inspire other heroes to also be heroic, thus starting the age of heroes as the DCU gets going.
That's why he should be the first superhero then. He not only starts the age of superheroes but also sets the tone. Then as time passes and the world and ideals change, and a new breed of superheroes are on the rise, they challenge the traditional ways and Superman, as one of the few remaining of the old vanguard, has to show them they're wrong. Gunn is switching the timeline around which is certainly an interesting take but I'm not sure how effective that would be. Guess we'll see.
Superman being a new inspiration for heroes in an age of cynicism is basically how he operated in the post-crisis timeline, it's not especially new

I do enjoy the tone James seems to be going for with this Universe. Seems almost like what DCEU tried to do. Marvel's approach seemed to be "okay, here's you're regular people universe (in cities you know) with this supernatural hero (and usually villain) added in" to show how unique they are by contrast to civilians. Then eventually start putting them all together. I like that DCU seems to be starting off with "Here's the world full of colourful characters, that already know each other and interact".
The animated universe that led up to Apokolips War was very much like that too, and it worked perfectly. We didnt get a bunch of solo movies, we just got Justice League War with a Batman who already knew of Superman and vice versa, GL and Flash knew of Batman like an urban myth, Billy knew Victor Stone through football. And they all just come together naturally very well. I love this approach to building a cinematic universe, everyone pretty much agrees that DC's animated stuff is great, this may be one of the key factors that helps live action live up to that

There are some legitimately funny and sincere moments in Dora that Merced pulls off that should not have worked. She feels like an actor who is just all-in in whatever role she's playing.
She’s generally good in whatever she’s in (even if the movie isn’t the best), still don’t love the idea of hawkgirl looking so young though. I know Aldis probably isn’t gonna carry over sadly but a female contemporary to his Hawkman would have been better
For the opposite end of the spectrum. Her and Benicio del Toro work well together and are pretty good in sicario: day of the Soldado. She’s also pretty heartwarming in Instant Family.

I think the idea of Ted Kord in Blue Beetle is that he is "missing." It seems like blue beetle is going to carry over to the new dcu, and if that's true I think there is huge potential for Ted Kord and Jaime to both show up in booster gold

My favorite part about this announcement is just how surprising it was. I don't think anyone predicted any of these characters to show up in this movie, much less all of them. And by having such an eclectic group of heroes it signals to me that this DC world has been lived in. No more needing to have an explanation for every single thing, we can just jump right in and roll with rhe punches. That's what I've always wanted from Superhero franchises.
I disagree but okay. To me it looks like Gunn rushing and over bloating his film and a messy film not about Superman. I think this film is doa hopefully I'm proved wrong.

My point is just because he's in his 50s doesn't mean it will affect the GL lore in the DCU or limit the number of stories they can tell. I'm sure John and Hal will be in an ideal age group in their 20's to late 30's, remember that it doesn't limit their stories

I think with the inclusion of Metamorpho it points to The Terrifics. I wouldn't be surprised if Hawkgirl is just a more recognizable stand in for Phantom Girl. Their role may be similar to Hawkman, Atom Smasher, and Dr. Fate's team in Black Adam. An established team that watches over earth meets Superman, who's new to the hero gig, so they try to recruit him, but he wants to do his own thing. His brand of justice is not their brand of justice. So they agree to work separately, but equally.
I trust James Gunn to bring the energy and heart of the justice league animated universe and personally I can’t wait to see that on screen, not a complete retelling, just havin that vibe, like how the batman really felt like the animated series, just flipped

I think there’s probably going to be a schism between the heroes in the movie, so that even if hawkgirl is in the authority and some of them like the city, controlling guy ends up being crazy, you know they’ll see superman and be like oh, maybe there is a better way of being a hero because the bunch of them just became a little too hard core over time. Thats how i see it going more or less.
I get the feeling that all our 'main' recurring heroes are going to be relative newcomers in their twenties or early thirties, because from a production standpoint that gives them room to age and means they'll more willing to sign on to long contracts at lower pay.
From what we've heard I suspect that all these heroes will be a version of the JSA or JLA that already exists as Superman starts rising to prominence, and that instead of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman being the founders they will be the people who transition the JLA into a golden age of being proper heroes, rather than just metahumans doing their best.
I’m really hoping this is the case. I think it’s best for long term and to buy people as these characters. Go unknown/or hardly well known for Batman and Wonder Woman too.
What I like about Gunn's DC universe is that it's already established. I liked that the MCU started with Iron Man and we slowly got to see the avengers band together and the universe expand but I don't want to see that twice. The old DCU was screwed because they tried to compete film for film with Marvel in less time. Batman VS. Superman was supposed to compete with Civil War but Batman didn't even have a solo film before it's release. In this universe Superman has been doing this for a while and Batman has Damian in his movie which implies this is his fourth Robin (Dick, Jason, Tim). Not having to do origin stories gives this universe the freedom to do any movie they want and the audience can just assume the movies cannon is close to the comics.
Come to think of it, James Gunn's affinity for slightly off-kilter teams of screw-ups would translate really well to a JLI. Especially one centered on Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, and Guy Gardner.

In the comics, John Stewart was introduced when Guy Gardner went into a coma because the Lanterns needed a back up in case something happened to Hal. I bet the Elite or the Authority will put him in a coma, so the GL show will be Hal training John, and then Guy can wake up in time for JLI

I grew up with Guy Gardner as my Green Lantern (with the Batman Brave and the Bold show). So it is really exciting hearing he is around. I never clicked with John Stewart but I also tend to like snarkier characters, and Hal Jordan while snarky in the stuff I saw him in was constantly just being over-confident then crushed to near death then passed out for a lot of the fight.

I would love to see Mr. Terrific be the through line character for a bunch of these movies. He could play a role as an independent agent who can investigate the heroes and give unbiased intel to the government. That is similar to the role he played in Strange Adventures which I think highlighted what makes him a unique personality in DC. It would make him a great foil for Waller while also being the human voice that keeps the heroes grounded.
I think Guy’s role is to be that machismo self-declared alpha type (like Lex), to contrast with nice guy Superman. And I don’t see him dying. Like in the comics, he’ll get mortally wounded (probably after getting his ass kicked by the villain) and the ring will find a temporary replacement in John

John Stewart will probably be cast younger to contrast to Hal Jordan since they'll presumably have a rookie veteran dynamic. That way you have your pov character into the lantern corps and they can can do an origin thats also new.
I really like the idea of hawkgirl replacing swift, because I think if the authority were antagonistic to supes she could be the one that he is able to show a “better way” becuase she’s young and hopeful rather than a potentially older midnighter/ Apollo who’d be older than Superman and stuck in their ways… idk but I think you’re onto something Nando!

With regard to the castings as a whole I think Gunn is trying to setup a wide roster of characters early. He’s trying the inverse of Suicide squad’s approach: don’t kill them off.
He shows us a dozen or so cameos per movie and then gauges fan reaction. And with a huge number of casting announcements he can bury the lede for who the actual players are in each story.

Gunn likes to cast his friends, so there’s pros and cons with that. With that said, these characters basically show that this world is a bit lived in so when we enter it, it’s essentially like entering Star Wars at episode 4 instead of entering it at episode 1.
The characters essentially mean there’s a Hal Jordan somewhere, a Hawkman somewhere and people without powered fighting crime out there. I think these characters will get the Adam Warlock treatment and will have a much smaller role than we think they will have.

Nathan Fillion was born to play a Green Lantern, especially because he’s already voiced one for years. While he tends to voice Hal Jordan, in the DCAMU his personality leans towards Guy Gardner more than Hal.
I cam out of Bumblebee in 2018 and thought 'John Cena was born to play Guy Gardner'. Peacemaker was in limbo at the time so I would never have thought of him. Nathan Fillion in Guardians three did look as if he'd bulked up a bit, so on the basis of that I could see him.

I’m assuming Gardner shows up because he’s currently the Lantern guarding sector 2814, which is why he shows up for whatever threat they’re facing, which also shows a living universe like Gunn has said. I would imagine Hal and John are both doing off world things we’ll learn about in the Lanterns series.

I knew _of_ the JLA but I really got to know them during the JLI run, so Guy, Booster, Ted Kord, and Ice and Fire hold a special place in my heart. At the time, my friend and I wished they had a sitcom starring those five (with Mr. Miracle and Big Barda as their neighbors and J'onn as their boss). If that's the JLA Gunn will introduce first (even if it's Jaime instead of Ted), I'm all for it. That way he can build up to the JLA eventually being formed by the Big 7
For a long time I've thought it'd be perfect to cast Nathan Fillion as Booster Gold with Alan Tudyk as Ted Kord Blue Beetle. Granted, they both might be a little bit too old now and Fillion is going to be Guy, but for a long time it felt like a pretty fun fit.

I think the problem with doing the Justice League International is that you need to establish the main justice league first, it'd be like doing West coast avengers before doing avengers, they'd just be the avengers.

So this is a universe starting when heroes are already a well established fact. What if the JL isnt founded yet, but its a world that knows the Justice Society that has dispersed with some of the members of the JS still around? And then the Authority shows up as a group to fill the void of no Justice Society, but they do some bad stuff and Superman has to figure out what to do with them, eventually forming the Justice League at the end of the movie.

I should comment as I watch but I can see Mr Terrific maybe being a part of Checkmate. I believe he was a part of Greg Rucka's run. But with Metamorpho's casting I'm leaning towards a Terrifics FF style team.

I have mixed feelings about these, like on the one hand, I like, all the actors and characters chosen, but on the other, this is a Superman movie, and I was hoping we would get a chance to focus on a bunch of Superman supporting characters who haven’t gotten the screen time yet, and having all these other characters from the DC universe come in, might make the movie feel more like a DC universe movie than Superman movie, like I’ll hold my general opinion, until I see the movie because they could be cameos for all we know, but I just hope the focus stays on Superman, his supporting characters and villains
Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner surprised me because I remember that old Bob Chaptman video in wich he says "nerds love to fan-cast Nathan Fillion in blockbusters, but that's never going to happen. He's not famous enough to be cast as *Hal Jordan,* or as Nathan Drake, or as anyone like that. Hollywood sees him as just a good TV actor, not as blockbuster leading man material"... well Bob, James Gunn has outsmarted us all with this one.

There's a good chance they won't even do Hawkgirl x John Stewart as that's mainly just an animated series thing and barely even happened in the comics, they even had her with Martian Manhunter at a time. But her main love interest is Hawkman who I honestly feel is the character they should have her with as their relationship is a major component to both of their characters, as the whole cursed destined lovers like half of their entire story.

Regarding Jack Hawksmoor, part of why he seems British is because he was named after the English architect Nicholas Hawksmoor, but everything I read in his appearances in Stormwatch and the Jenny Sparks series seemed to indicate he was American.

Mr Teriffic is a scientific genius and a charismatic leader who can see a vision of a better world and convince others to join him in making it.
Guy Gardner has much of the same abrasive personality of Jack Hawksmoore and the Engineer is basically a Green Lantern dupe.
Metamorpho is connected to the elements like the Doctor and also an adventurer like Jenny Sparks.
What if rather than having Superman, the Authority and all these heroes as well its Superman versus this group calling itself the Authority? They could still have Apollo and Midnighter but they could also swap them out for, I dunno, Bronze Tiger and -- fuck it, Mon-El? The Ray?

What if you’re right about the lineup changes buuuut……
Legacy introduces a few heroes and waller, which leads to her talking him into starting the The Authority. On Batman’s end, in his movie as a B plot, he hears the whispering about it and looks up folks to start an “international Justice League” as a just in case measure. The authority (w/ hawk girl w/ her JLU Thanagar origins) does do what Bats predict in their movie. During which, something happens to Hal, so GG steps in. They end up breaking up likely due to GG overstepping in The Authority movie and gets suspended due to his actions, causing John Stewart to have to step in during the green lantern corps. Hawk Girl gets close Stewart and starts the love story through various B-plots while also laying the crumbs to the formation of the ACTUAL Justice league. They form. Then boom.
