    How long is your school day and year? It is amazing how much students and teachers do in one day! I love your slides. Thank you for sharing your heart word resources and how you do your writing block. I teach Kindergarten and we are also working on narrative writing. I love writing, but struggle on how to teach it to the students. Again, thank you for all your resources!

    Wow, you are amazing! I don’t know how you do it all ! Every
    Morning do you make the slides for the day, including what’s for lunch? Thinking about applying for a teaching position once I get my peri-menopause under control. Thank you for all your amazing information. It makes me want to get back in the classroom!

      I make all the slides for the week over the weekend! It takes a little over an hour. That way I’m planned and prepped for the week!

    I teach first grade as well, and our day is 8:20-3:20. School is also 180 days but I find it so hard to fit everything in. I'd love to see an example of your schedule layout.

    Thank you for the honest look at a full day in the life of a first grade teacher. I wish our school day started later like in the North. In Georgia my kids start arriving at 7:03 but we are done at 2:20. Quick question, we just got Heggerty and had training we are starting after break do you have any premade slides for Heggerty? Any tips you learned along the way with it I would be grateful to hear. Lastly your husband's game letter bug is it on your site to purchase? As always I love your videos and your honest opinions.

    • @SusanJonesTeaching
      @SusanJonesTeaching  10 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Jill! I don't use any premade slides for Heggerty! I just have my kids sit nice and close to me on the rug and use the hand movements from the manual. I tell my students I need to see their mouths moving. It goes pretty quick! And yes, we put Letter Bug on TPT here: bit.ly/SJTletterbug

      @susanbrody9534 10 месяцев назад +1

      My 2 cents: Heggerty (the best!) is all auditory, so you don't need to spend time making slides. I have done if for two year and it takes no more than 8 minutes a day (I do often skip the last step of reciting sentences). But my kids have the different drills down and follow my verbal lead and chop their words, blend, rhyme, substitute, delete sounds, etc. I use phonics for my other part of phonics instruction, but totally unnecessary for Heggerty.

    Have always been a fan. Just a few questions - you had folders for small group. You mentioned they follow the Fundations Units. What do you have in the folders? It looked like possibly Whole Phonics books? Also, do you have a sound wall you like that aligns with Fundations? Thank you for always sharing.

    • @SusanJonesTeaching
      @SusanJonesTeaching  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you so much! The sound wall cards are ones I made in Canva and they align with Fundations - I sent them out for free to my email list. You can grab them here: docs.google.com/presentation/d/1ltpkr359G3nY1NL8Jh7IZJzzxiVEWlEH/copy
      Inside the folders are the lessons that align with decodables! A team of teachers had worked together to align the decodables (we use Whole Phonics, Phonics Books, Fly Leaf, and a few more) to the units in Fundations. Then we have a 10-part small group reading lesson that aligns with each book. Copies of the books and the lessons are included in each folder. I share all of the steps and what that looks like in this video here: ruclips.net/video/AUoQN7ahATE/видео.htmlsi=E0ttbRUl4BqrNeH-

    I just completed my student teaching in kindergarten, but I have an opportunity to get my own first grade classroom next week because of an unexpected situation with the teacher. I will be joining this classroom mid-year and it is a little bit nerve-wracking, can you give me any tips on introducing myself and remembering the children's names?

    Hi Susan - I noticed in one of your videos that one of the independent choices your kids have is called Kings & Queens. What is that? Thanks :)

    • @SusanJonesTeaching

      It is a GREAT app! It's called ThinkRolls on the app store and Kings and Queens is one theme of it you can purchase - it is a logic game for kids. My students (and my own two boys love it!)

    • @SusanJonesTeaching
      @SusanJonesTeaching  10 месяцев назад +1

      They go to their seats for phonics and we use the slides to guide us! The heart words we read aloud and spell on our arms! Then we review the new sounds, use magnet boards or whiteboards to build words or dictate etc. then students will get their passages to practice scoop reading!
