We just had the highest player count since 2023 as well... 7600 players...
A not trust value bse the lots of smurf players (people with multi accounts)
"fake" numbers, most of them are free to play players who are not spending money
@@lilililiililili6363 Never heard of anyone who plays aoe3 free to play version. I doubt there are that many
And let it continue further!
They rather make a half-assed mobile game rather than patching the main game and giving them DLC
true, there might even be problems with future AoM content as well, chinese civ is a "must" for them, but extra gods or more civs? Highly doubtfull.
They promised two new Civs in the DLC for AoM:R, the Chinese and one that is unknown. They must deliver on that much as a bare minimum.
They don´t developed it. They licensed the IP to a Chinese game studio to make their own cash grab game and just slap AOE on the name. so it´s a win/win situation for them.
Even the shittiest mobile game will make zillions of dollars if it has enough predatory microtransactions
@@stevenheydorf6931 At this point, when they cancelled a dlc for a more popular game then AoM:R I have my doubts that they'll deliver something akin to a 6th civ into the game, but hopefully they do at least keep their word with AoM fanbase
No real historical battles added with the Knights of the mediterranean DLC was already a red flag.
Historical battles are too easy
Knights of the Mediterranean did add lots of content though, in terms of European random maps, historical maps, and minor civs.
@@vladtc2732 what does that have to do with anything? The campaign is easy does that mean it shouldn't exist?
@@lasserrdamnielsen6655 the historical battles it added are modified skirmish games.
@@seksaouiabderraouf2531 No, I think they should exist. It’s just that they should’ve made them better. If they are too easy I do not find then enjoyable nor memorable.
"We got 2 red flags" - Lion Hearth 2024 -
Red flags indeed....
Amazing 😂
Don't worry, they will announce 5 new DLC's for AoE 2 with the literal same unit models but mill upgrade will be 5% cheaper.
And the fact that even with smurfs and whatnot, AoE 3 recently had a really healthy player numbers...
"they will announce 5 new DLC's for AoE 2 with the literal same unit models but mill upgrade will be 5% cheaper."
To be fair that makes AoE2 dlc significantly cheaper to develop than AoE3 dlc, and AoE2 has higher player numbers, so from a business perspective it's kind of a no-brainer
Despite dlcs for III sell better...
@@thesecofull Nope. If AoE3 was more profitable than 2 they would keep making 3 content. Even if 3 sells better than 2 (highly doubt) if the added development cost outweighs the gains from additional sales its still less profitable.
I'm one of the new players
Love this comment! The amount of DLCs for AOE2 is kinda wild but you have to consider that its player base and popularity is greater than both 3 and AOM
combined.
Ive never played aoe3, but i know what it's like to be part of a niche group that gets abandoned by devs. Just here for solidarity ❤️
Does anyone remember WW2:TCG?
Thanks man, appreciate your kind words
everything about this has been handled not just poorly but insultingly, the lack of communication, the constant reassurance that it is coming, and now not just the cancellation of the dlc but more or less the murder of the game, because they don't even mention patches, the game still has some serious bugs....
Edit: There is no game like aoe3, at least that I know of, no homecity, no natives, no trade route, no mercenaries, every time I play another rts I want to go back because I'm missing something.
Legacy survived for over a decade without new content, we will be fine. I just want more frequent patches to mainatin balance, and maybe some minor consmetic or map updates to keep things fresh. This move could be seen from a mile away, and I cant inagine they made a profit on their last DLC so it was kind of inevitable
Yes, let the players who love the game continue to support it! Fuck new civs we got 22. Balance is actually pretty great rn, yea maybe one more slight brit nerf but every patch there will be a few OP civs. At least there arent super exploitable easy shit these days like the italy fort/turtle building stuff. Let's keep it going as long as we can gents!
I wish aoe4 didnt suck and didnt look like LoL. aoe3 is made so well and its so detailed.
Both untrue statements. None of the AoE games sucked, AoE3 just unfortunately is the least popular besides maybe AoE1
@@Falindio AOE 4 followed same failure path that DoW3 WC3refunded and C&C4 have. Trying to appeal to "modern audience" and failed to understand why previous title UX achieved player retention. AOE4 does look like a mobile moba, that is the art direction they chose, and that is why I never bought it or played it. For me Aoe series is over.
exactly this, i dont understand why they made aoe4 so repulsive
I don't think AoE4 looks ugly, but I do think it could use a large spoonful violence. More yelling, more clash of swords... In Stronghold if the mangonel kills people you get splattering sounds, in AoE4 they just silently fall to the ground. Game got too censored. The engine and hotkeys are really nice and comfy so at least gameplay is good, minus the lategame siege.
@@AM_RUS They might share a similar path, but the fact that there is a stable playerbase and ranked among top RTSes on Steam, means that even though they try to appeal to more modern audience, it's most certainly NOT a failure.
WC3 Reforged was a failure for not delivering MOST of their promise, extremely bugged, and literally the basic features of the original WC3 are not there. While C&C 4 changed the BASIC GAMEPLAY of C&C series too much, with a predictable outcome. AoE4 managed to bring a lot of interesting gameplay, certainly not too innovative, but the audience is there and is there to stay.
This is sad news. I was really looking forward to future content for AoE3. Admittedly, my dream additions were unreasonable, but still.
This seems like a bad April Fool's joke, I was looking forward to Poland.
Honestly, the cancellation of the AOE3 DLC has only one effect on me: zero chance of buying anything from this company again. Untrustworthy companies that break promises are dead to me.
Yeah it’s not looking good!
At this point i wish that the people behind age of liberty would let us pay them to port the game to DE, or even make their own game, they look 100 times more passionate about the game than Microsoft.
Game on life support. Will be a sad day when they pull the plug
llegara ese dia, sera triste tengo buenos recuerdos en el
If they did, just get/pirate legacy and play it on gameranger. There's enough of us that we'd make it work
Our online player numbers are doing so well but whatever, lets not update, patch, communicate at all and drop the DLC.🤨
What the heck? 🤔
Happy to play this game for the rest of my life, just expected better based on the standard they'd set.
Stay together aoe3 community, we will make improvements ourselves, I have faith, just like we did with the legacy game on the Fan Patch era. Sad to hear you're likely moving away from the game Widgie
Hey Soldier! Thanks for coming by! We shall see what happens, I can’t say for sure at the moment!
This news it absolutely gutting. I don't understand the thought process behind it either. AOE3 DE has a steady player base of 3K-5K players and is averaging more than AOM currently. Why simply drop the game? Such a sad day... I'm not interested in any other AOE game at this point.
AOM and AOE4 will also be on the chopping block. I’ve been an aoe4 enjoyer since release with 2000 hours in it. I really worry that aoe in general, besides maybe aoe2 will suffer soon.
Would be good to understand why you think that’s the case for AOE4?
Thanks for dropping by! I’m a fan of your channel! Yeah it’s a sad day indeed and their doesn’t seem to be any real logic behind it
To be honest, I think it was clear in a way. The last DLC was cool but for me it were always not 2 civs but 1 and a half. I mean Malta has not a high historical significance and was just the campaign civ with some new things-nothing special. I’m really disappointed that the game doesn’t get any more content, because in terms of civilisations and mechanics it has way more potential than AOE2 for example.
Maybe they’ll change their mind but this is really optimistic
Its a very nice civ to play
definitely not more than aoe2, but deserved its own stuff
AoE2 has way more potential, with the new DLC line... AoE3 is just not interesting to people, simply
@LexMadafaka AoE3 is the fifth most played RTS (out of hundreds) and there are more than enough arguments for it to receive something every so often, even if it is the last priority.
I think:
- they hadn't decided on what the civs would be at the time that the video for the initial announcement was recorded - they added the flags in post
- they hadn't started any substantive development by the time of the cancellation, and likely hadn't even started significant planning or concept work
- they knew when they announced the delay that they were going to cancel it altogether
- work on the balance changes in the patch that came after the delay announcement was not started until after the delay announcement
Well boys, I think they're unofficially pulling the plug on this amazing game. Makes me so sad. This game deserved so much better. Best AOE by far.
Aoe Team next week were happy to announce 3 new dlc's fore aoe 2 de in 2025....
Well yeah, the superior game will get the most content
@@sark0283 nope, its just that aoe 2 fans are easier to scam
@@luna_escarlataNo aoe2 dlc has been a scam
Aoe2 dlcs have also slowed down. The last true DLC was "The Mountain Royals" which came out in October 2023. After that "Victors & Vanquished" was just re-cycled content and "The Chronicles of Greece" is not even set in the Aoe2 period even though it uses the Aoe2 engine.
@@franciscolopezgiron3131it's absolutely hilarious and wild to see AOE3 fans shitting on every other game in the series because their game had its support ended lmao like even if the dlc came out with patches after that and MS decided to end support then, they would still be just as obnoxious as they are now
Widgie i have to be honest, has been very hard to me: i) the announcement of AOE 3 and ii) your reaction and confession about your interest for AOE 3.
I know is hard news, however the Community loves your videos (i learn to play sweden with ur guides). Please, reconsider and don t abandon us. Is just a request from a desesperate user.
Oh my... The matchmaking waiting time is gonna get even longer after this announcement.
The worst thing is that they would rather support a crappy mobile game that gets cooked for how terrible and cashgrabby it is, or give Age of Empires 2 more DLC that the game DOES NOT NEED than give just one DLC to a beloved game.
That’s one of the saddest things yeah
@ it shows they just care about the highest potential profit
I say we get some cool/serious civ mods thrown at them with all the work done for them and see if they approve them as official, giving some of the gains to the modders per purchase of course
Damn... hope the balance will be maintained as there are always new broken builds coming out..
In my opinion, they should bring more campaigns with the existing civs. There's so many history that can covered, countless historical battles.
If they can't even put 2 european civs i don't they'd invest in campaigns that sadly not everyone plays
¡Gracias!
Thanks so much!
I don't play AoE3 but it is still sad. Everyone loves Poland, right? Poland is the coolest country in strategy games and husaria is cool. Those guys had wings I mean bro this is the coolest thing ever.
And that's it?
Other than the spoof Polania faction in Iron Harvest
It sounded like no more patches as well
I think there will still be some balance patches like every quarter or something
I personally think if it is a funding issue, then it would be for the whole franchise.
Sometimes these things come out of the blue. Like closure of Ensemble. Even if things seem to be going well, all it takes is someone at MS with a spreadsheet to suggest the financials are better spent elsewhere and it's game over.
Yep. Sadly dlcs are very hard to monetize a game nowdays. At least they havent turnt to microtransactions
Read this last night in Poland...
Nooooooooo! I'm a fresh lover of AoE franchise and I wanted to see them bloom... it's so sad that this got cancelled
I hope they change that decision
m bison:
"YES!! YES!!!"
"Did any work". Mate.... half the work was done because of the merc units that already existed in the game already. Horrible announcment, horrible civs chosen, and now horrible way to break the news.
Well I simply never cared for the dlc civs, as long as AoE3 survives and have players, I'll be here.
I don't play competitively. I'm an old guy with a stressful job who likes to experiment with builds and skirmish against the AI. I really like how they have been filling out the Revolution mechanics and more of that would be great for me. Maybe they could even do more with Natives, kind of make them "mini-civs". Would love a Comanche mini-Civ.
Look like is back to modding. Those dudes of the antique Wars of Liberty should be called to make a new mod for definitive edition
They are done, i have talked to them
@brunoagostinho5273 Sad....Really wanted Brazil Empire, and other South America civs to play
They should make it like open source for the community to develop further like they did back in the days with some games. Maybe training an AI on it would come in handy?
While I'm very sad that we won't get new content, I'm still a big fan of the game and will continue to support content creators that create content for it. I think AOE3 is one of those timeless games. Games like SC2 still have a big following despite the developer pulling support.
Some point of views that I wanted to share specifically with Widgie channel (there are a lot of AoE 3 content creators but here I see an amalgamation of several people from different channels):
1) Devs announcing it right after a sale was disgusting. Very controversial to say the least.
2) I have a similar feeling regarding my enthusiasm with this game: I feel that the game got changed so hard on several patches that it was hard to follow the whole thing even if you loved the original game. We also had several episodes where the game got total broken civs (Italian Fort Spam era) and devs did not take proper actions fast enough. I really don't feel that we got a "stability" phase like AoE 2 DE, despite the game being around for several years. As an example: I love Russia civ but there was a bunch of changes so many times that made me confused about the civ direction in the past. Lakota is another example of a civ that got a bit disfigured on DE, it was my second most favorite civ in TAD/TWC and it really annoyed me on how some DE changes had 0 consideration regarding players AND playability.
3) As you showed, AoE 3 DE got a false and undeserved fame as the "weakling" of the franchise, yet the numbers say otherwise. Let's be clear: AoE 3 deserved much more love and consideration from devs. We could have an AoE 3 show match last Red Bull Wololo and we had public for it. However, they try to force people into AoE 4 when clearly the top medieval favorite for franchise fans will always be AoE 2... I have theories on why they dropped the ball so hard with AoE 3 but I will keep to myself for now :)
Alas, I hope that one day we shall get some leaked files regarding the development of Danes and Poland-Lithuania. I am really curious about what they had in mind.
No DLC is bad news... But I am crushed that there will be no more balance patches... Dutch akans forever broken :'(
Are you sure that’s what they said? No balance patches at all?!
@@Widgie its explicitly clear what they are and what they are not supporting in their final paragraph. its only server, monthly free civ and Cx support like help i cant connect to multiplayer: them going "are you connected to the internet?" xD :'(
I have played the Age of Empires games for over 20 years. Since these Remaster's came out, I have 1492.9 hours playing all of them total. I have nearly 6000 hours playing Crusaders Kings 3, with and without mods, and I'm playing it as I type this. These games did a good job making me want to learn more about history growing up, that's why I looking forward to new civilizations being added to each game, it's a chance for a kid who wants to get into history and wants to learn more or what they didn't include or get right. and I feel this is a knife in the back to everyone who truly values history that did grow up playing these games because most of know we didn't get into the game industry because of things like this happening to other games that tried to compete, and for those who did get into it they probably feel they failed us because the people who are up top are out of touch and change what would've happened.
Played this game for 15+ years, its a real sad day for the community.
we are more than happy to pay for new contents, but we have been forgotten.
Hope the developers read our messages, is there a petition we can do?
It’s a sad reality
Can World’s End start selling skins or something? We need to have a way to support the game from dying.
Lots of fans are decebtly earning adults who would be happy to contribute.
Skins might get confusing to identify which unit is which.
@@Widgie Yeah, probably best to have them just for heroes / maybe main buildings, and maybe special profile pictures.
Tbh I would also just donate money if there was a button do so
'No new content, just MTX cosmetics' sounds like a fate worse than death.
@@WiggaMachiavelli The question is, is aoe3 and any possible dlcs making a profit? For the developers to work more on this game they need to make money out of it, or at least not lose money on it. It's just rational financial decisions.
There's a lot of new players now, but the price of the game is also very low, and a lot of players are on the free trial. Developer wages are really high in the U.S.
@@joperoz If conduct follows profit then their outsourced cosmetics operations would be more productive for AoE2 or 4, right? Best case it is kicking the can down the road.
Games that survive on cosmetics sales are games that don't survive on quality of content and the long-term incentives are corrosive. People who want good games shouldn't buy cosmetics.
They should give game infrastructure to dude that develop World Mode for AOE3.
Hopefully Modder's can bring Poland and Demark into the game! and some more balancing
It is very upsetting, but I hope they will keep updating the game from time to time...
Does this mean they're gonna pull the plug on Age of Mythology Retold as well in a year or two. As there's the same amount, or less people playing Retold as Age 3. So if the higher ups don't see money in Retold they'll maybe cut ties with that too 😢
I just recently wrote on the forum that I was waiting for a teaser, anything about the dlc...
Absolutely pathetic of the devs to tease and promote to us for over a year about an upcoming dlc, only communicate its in progress and being pushed back for "quality assurance" then pull the rug with "lol we wont support the game anymore because reasons?" Screw them. If you are gonna pull the plug like that give us the full mod tools for the community to make the damn civilizations you refuse to bother making and custom campaigns too based on them.
Yeh pretty sad news and I’ve just got back into the game this past year and loved it! feels like it’s now on it’s way out bit gutting, feel like I’m few years too late, content makers like you and lion and a few others definitely helped with the numbers getting bigger, the mobile game is probably where funds have gone and it’s shit!
Yeah I have some suspicions that the mobile game was a complete flop and they threw away a lot of their investment pot
Knights of the Mediterranean I guess was one of the early but pretty obvious signs. I always liked Age 3 for portraying this whole era of great geographic discoveries what not many games were doing at the time. And since the lore (or whatever there is left of it) of the game is about these big empires and/or tribes fighting each other and then for some reason they add Italy which wasn't around as a nation for most of the time other nations of the game were around, and they basically pulled Malta from the campaign together with bombards and other nonsense. Which don't get me wrong, while is fun but at the same time it really shows how instead of making a totally new nation to play with, they decide to do this instead. They should've make Poland instead of Malta, call it "Knights of the old world" or something, add some last but good Historical battles and in my opinion that would be enough for this game. That's what happens when greed overshadows care for something you do or when wrong people are trying to paint an unfinished picture.
Im really missing the musketiers from IV, so I play with 3
I hope they'll add mire maps on age of empires 4 game. More island maps😊
I wonder how much of the new civs they did. Were they actually working on it? They gave no reason for the cancellation.
I only hope that Spirit of the law have something to say about this… He’s been always respectful towards aoe 3. He can gain traction on the problem and spread the word.
Honestly I think the only way you can maybe even try to attempt to revive the DLC project is to have the content creators and fans fund it but as AOE3 doesn't really have large content creators even that's impossible
Tilanus and Eaglemut will team up and make EP2 before gta6 comes out. Mark my words!
Well Im gonna still Play Age Of The World mod for now. They might add these missing DLC countries for free.
AOE III DE is broken on Modern CPU. You have to make the game use less ressources so it does not crash
Even though they cancelled the DLC, it wasn't until I got to the end of that letter that I read stuff I didn't like
They said they were just going to maintain the servers and provide Customer support.
😬
It sounds like they aren't working on anything new at all, full stop
Devs never gave AoE3 a real chance to prove it's worth, still mad at RedBull Wololo for picking AoE1 over this.
Yikes. To be honest I never found AOE3's time period to be a problem, and I say as an anti-colonialist myself. Games are games,no more than William Wallace from Aoe2 is a representative of Scottish history as a whole. This game is the only one of its sort I know of that has individual unit scale gun infantry-cavalry with semi-random map-gen, and I dont think any other game has such combination while integrating melee/ranged cav and artillery(especially unit scale gun infantry not regiment scale like Total War). But in general in games as a whole I am worried that this does not augur well, what with the EA server shutdown controversies and online multiplayer gaming as a whole reaching near about 30 years, there may be stresses, thankfully the AOE community as a whole has revived the franchise in a big way since 2020.Even if there is a drop off,I think there will be continued thriving bases.AOE3 was the only video game I played for 6 years, and even that was without multiplayer,so I am back in for the long haul.A little sad you said you dont enjoy Aoe3 like you used to,hope you find it or whatever other games you play fun as well.
I prefer 3's time frame over 2's, in this case, because there are too many medieval RTS games and not enough Early Modern Era RTS games.
there's cossacks. its similar to aoe 3 but kinda better in every way.
Wow, I didn't expect this game to actually have more players tahn AoM. Hope they find a way to save it and not screw that up.
Thanks for informing us, but this makes me very sad. And it is indeed very concerning for AoM Retold.
Just does not matter, as long as you like the game. you play it.
Rhe thing thats the most disappointing is not the cancellation per say, its the fact that there was no transparency or honesty from the start/first delay and that they didn’t try and highlight alternatives. Why not talk to modders and get a showcase together highlighting the best civ mods etc. I just dont get the radio silence with no attempts at rectifying the communities disappointment.
Well, i always have the wars of liberty mod for my aoe3 needs
Probably they did nothing on DLC. Makes me kinda disgusted
So no DLC no more balance update with new maps...anything? :(
So sad news....
Can we turn back this tendence? Looks like no more dlcs in the horizon or any other type of content...
That is very sad. I just hope they wont let the game die, now that everything transfered to DE.
Devs are afraid of polish-lithuanian commonwealth’s dopeness.
goddangit i was waiting for the dlc to revisit the game
If they have no idea on what to do, they should try hiring the modders from vanilla and DE. This game is just too good to be forsaken
ignored game of the year " AOE 3 DE"
So true!
only the administration know what they did, 2024 was full of bad choices, they killed several games that had a good fan base. If it was meant to end, it wouldve been better just to say goodbye with a last expansion, not like this :/
They want the same money FPS and gatcha/micro shit does, so even AoE II support may die eventually.
Well I have always played it as single-player anyway ... This kind of makes me want to install it again and play just to spite them.
I do played aoe 3 every now and then but this is sad. Feels like a back stab
So, so disappointing.
'strung us along' - well summed-up!
they litterly k!ll they own game and the communitty. alots of people just return to the game last 3 month for nothing. so sad
Aw man... that's really sad, i was really hopping for new nations :( it would be so good, and so much fun. I absolutely love AOE 3 De and i really hope the devs give the game more attention... aoe 3 is my favorite age of empires, and i don't really have interest in aoe IV
Such A Letdown. To leave us at the cliff hanging like that. I got back into playing it and put aomr on the side for the past two months in order to get used to the mechanics again in prep for the dlc. They really pulled the rug from under our feet. No more metaphors. But yeah. Such b.s!
Maybe someone should petition the president to get him to sign an executive order demanding that they release the dlc 🤓
Aoe 3 is easily the best of the series, and the best rts of all time. Sorry to see you go
Cmon now that we had hope...
Well if AoE3 new DLC got canceled, then I don't have high hopes for a new AoE2 DLC either this year. Maybe they're deciding to abandon the AoE franchise.
we've been forsaken. do not expect any more new content for aoe3
sad news for an age game. all age games are doing great rn, pulling the plug on a dlc just seems lazy on the publisher side.
I never really found any interest in age of mythology. Age of empires is realistic where age of mythology is not. I think they might release the 2 new civs. It's probably just delayed and needs some more work.
I have searched for other rts games and nothing comes close to age of empires when I look at the preview videos. Nothing else catches my attention or interests me more than age of empires. It's because the other games are not as realistic. When I say realistic I mean like military units, cavalry, canons and not some fake monsters, demons or imaginary beings.
Ouch just in the Hearth
Too bad you didn’t try out Immortal: Gates of Pyre during the Demo
Don’t worry I did! Just didn’t record any gameplay of it
@@Widgiewhat did you think of the game?
Damn that sux... AoE3 rox... and it's just full of people. I hope they change their minds in the future. Not being relevant is... relative. They could have added brazil instead of malta for example. There are other good ideas but hey... not many left.
SADGEEEEEE
AoE3 is free to play, you forgot this very important piece of info
That’s a fair point but the free content is quite minimal. Worst case it’s at the same player base as AoM and that in itself should be worrying for the producers.
@Widgie i expect at least 50% of current AoE3 players to be from free to play. So no money gained in that.
For me they just killed the franchise. I'm not going to pay them a single penny anymore.
Extremely disappointing. Been looking forward and speculating about all the cool stuff they could add in this and future DLCs. So much lost potential.
💔💔💔💔💔 thats saddd
I was just thinking that this was gonna happen :(((((
just play the age of wonders mod brings atleast 12 new factions and its free
not surprise at all
Bye Widgeman :(
I’m not going anywhere! Stop it!
