When the drummer saves you from talking to a guest...

- Happened at a recent gig where someone came up to the horn section to ask us something and the drummer counted off the tune a few seconds later so we had to start playing. I wish it always went like that lol

Honestly I wish that would happen more too. There's soooo many times where I'm trying to communicate with my rhythm section and some person decides to come up and talk to us or stand within like 3 feet from our drummer

It's so annoying

Legit 2 nights ago this happened to me! Drunk came over and decided to tell us his life story about Fillmore West and he was awkwardly making demands like he was our manager or some shit. Drummer cut him off and we went on. Never been so thankful for my drummer

If rhythm section is ready... Lol
Not just the horn section. The whole damn band has been subjected to this more than once. I’m like you… song starts, I go.
I had a guy come up to me *mid song* telling me to make an announcement after the song that someone needed to move their jeep. I play drums, and could barely hear him so he repeated himself like 4 times before getting off stage
LOL nice, yeah it would be easier to just wait till the end of the song

Sounds like a lie. Even drunk people don't talk to the drummer. They go to a person with a microphone.
The ultrachad drummer who is very friendly to introverts
No clue what this means lol
And anti-prick
@@foolishfrankieshorts3403 Let me break down the zoomer lingo for you, if you want to know more about modern internet talking after this, watch LIMC (lessons in meme culture)
"The ultrachad drummer"
This refers to the drummer being an absolute unit of a person being a role model example of considerate people, although Chad can also refer to someone who is just themselves at all times being a muscular person humbled and willing to point out what's wrong.
"Who is very friendly to introverts"
This line is saying that the drummer is considerate of people with social anxiety.
A translation of this sentence to proper English would be:
The drummer is such an amazing person, and so considerate of those uncomfortable in social settings.
Now, this doesn't convey the same exact meaning, but it should be close enough to get the gist of it, I hope this helps.
Tldr; Drummer is the goat for being considerate of bandmates.
@@zxnggn8155 You are a legend thank you
@@zxnggn8155this is so cute omfg

This is always so awkward when youre on a gig and someone walks right up and tries to interrupt mid set for like 10 minutes. No social awareness.
Like autistic people have no social awareness
Yea they're destined to a hell where they pee in your ass among other things. Unless they're into that
I know musicians can be introverts but it's not rude to tell someone you have a job to do and can't chat! Jeeze guys, you need any excuse in the book to not talk to a stranger that's not using your words.
@@musicased9591 yeah that could be said...but they'll barely hear you anyway especially when it's loud music, the person that walked up to them is the irresponsible one for not noticing their busy. It's not about how to respond, they shouldn't have been there in the first place, it's like walking up to stage and trying to talk to the actor of a play mid way through. Wth
@@musicased9591 Trouble with "using your words" is that that would then be "talking to a stranger." Which is what we're trying to avoid.
every time someone tries to talk to me in the middle of the set theyre always suggesting a tune that none of us have ever heard before or practiced or just talking about something completely random and this looks like no different
LOL sounds about right

*starts giving technique advice*
He was asking if we were playing an event that we played last year again this year
After having to play at school football games while surrounded by obnoxious teenagers, I wish I had someone like this drummer.
The drummer is like the oldest brother of the band. Always keeping everyone out of danger.
Either that or like the crazy youngest brother always getting into trouble lol
The power a drummer has, The classic bu dum tss, the Crash Cymbals at the end of a song, and of course this.
What really sucks is when they get up and speak to you while you're in the MIDDLE OF A SONG!
YES
Especially if you play a violin or guitar or bass or drums or piano. They know that you aren’t breathing into it to play so they just expect you to multitask.
I now make it my duty to prevent awkward conversations as a drummer
LOL
I was thinking of Josh Otusanya the whole time, "that was smooth by the way"
😭😭
Mwah hah hah
As a drummer, I approve this message.
Although, even worse than someone coming up to the band, is someone telling the sound guy how to do their job.
In my experience the majority of sound guys need exactly that, just not from a guest.
My husband is one of these types of people. He wants to talk to the band but I have to drag him away cause damn they're trying to work!
LOL tell him we're more than happy to talk on our break!!!

I'd pay the drummer to follow me around for a year. 😂
He has one of these brand-new saxophones for left-handers that are played with the right hand above the left. I understand they cost around $25,000.
The drummer has done it to me in a different places we have played and the drummer came in with the clutch just like that drummer

The tin whistle in his pocket is sick
LOL thanks I played it on You Can Call Me Al
I'm a singer, and some disrespectful guests even dare to PULL my dress to tell me something (me being up on stage)... WHILE I'M SINGING.... Dude, I'm working, and no, my job is not listening to your requests MIDSONG. I was so pissed off cause there were other singers doing nothing 🥲
Woah yeah that's unacceptable
I've had a few times in pubs where people would try to grab the end of my slide. I generally like playing for drunk people but leave the band alone.
I got an interaction like this on video once and got in trouble from the bride for posting it 😂😅
Oop hopefully no one ever sees this, luckily only the band is in the video🙈
Mine also showed the dude 😅. You’re probably ok. I want to go back and blur him out one day - shit was funny. He kept talking to me about his casio keyboard at home and another man asked me about any of the “broads” at the wedding peaking my interest.
I know drunk dudes are annoying, but holy cow drunk gals are a menace if they decide to engage with the band.
As a sound engineer for such events, I would always be out in the crowd with my iPad. Everyone would always talk to me about requests, etc. I’d say, “hold on a second,“ then look seriously like I’m mixing something special. Then I just walk away like I have to tend to a problem.
LOL nice

His little smirk too. He knew what he was doing.
Actually I talked to him after the gig about it and he was like "Oh I didn't even know that happened I was just stoked to play the next tune" 😂
My drummer always gives me a heads up
Perfect timing!!!❤😂
Why approach in the middle of the party? Do it at the end when they're about to leave at least so they can actually get away from you.
LOL or on a break at least! I don't mind talking to people, I just like to stay focused on playing while we're doing a set
I love being the drummer and just having control when the song stars
This man breathes music, he hears drums and the horn sounds.

Lol the drummers gotta be doing it on purpose
I feel that and I currently am in band at my high school. Only had something similar to this happen once but worth it later.
This was nice to watch while I’m away at school
I can see both sides of this. As a introvert, I woulf appreciate someone doing this for me. As someone who also doesn't like seeing people being rude, that was kinda rude. The guy didn't interrupt anything, that I saw, and sounded like he was interested in talking to the band. Like, you need people so that you can continue to have your job.
This is applicable to you too:
I can tell you've never played a gig ever. I'm doing my job and trying to focus on playing the music well. I need to hear what tune the vocalist is calling out so I'm ready to play the next one in case the set list changed (which happens every gig due to weddings running behind). I'm more than happy to take my entire break and talk to a guest, just not when I'm in the middle of doing my job. Please rethink your ignorant comment before insulting a stranger on the internet that you know nothing about.
@OpenDoor19 The musicians were on stage with their instruments. So the guy interrupted the show. Do you go up to actors in a Theater and talk to them in between lines?
Yeah I feel this. I understand the position of the band, & I understand being grateful for the drummer's choice, but it seems really harsh to put it online since that implicitly mocks the person who was clearly a fan trying to be a fan. I can tell that's not the intention of this post, but yeah it's not a good look. First clip I've seen from this creator & I have to admit I would hesitate to hire this band now (were I theoretically in such a position) due to this post being unprofessional by my standards. Like, if the guest were being critical or harassing about requests that's very different but this guy clearly just liked the band & didn't realize he was being oblivious/distracting. A video talking about the issue, or using a more egregious example, I'd understand, but this (again, specifically the choice to post, not the choice to play when prompted/start a song to help a bandmate) is just kinda mean IMO.
@@ItsAsparageese The person was asking us if we were playing at an event again this year that we played last year. I'm not mocking them even a little bit they aren't even shown in the video (and neither are any of the guests). I'm also not the bandleader so I wouldn't even be able to answer their question. I'm more than happy to direct them to the right person on my break or politely hold any conversation they want to have on my break. As you can see in the video I ever entertained this conversation until the drummer counted off the tune and I had to get back to playing (which is what I was hired to do). This is supposed to be a light-hearted relatable video for other working musicians who get this happening to them every weekend. It's not a huge society breaking problem that a serious video needs to be made about.
Do you actually think that just because the band isn’t playing between songs that it’s ok for people to come up and start conversations?
This is genuinely really funny 😂😂
Note to self, bring a buddy to the gig with us so they can redirect guests. Y'all don't need to be talking to us during a performance, it can wait until after.
That is sooooooo true🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦🏾♂️

Its 3am and this is the best moment of my life

Excellent timing, I expect nothing less from a drummer :D
Mad respect to that drummer
I'm a bassist, and this is one of my biggest pet peeves when gigging. It could be literally the middle of a song and I'll have people come up to me to tell me it's too loud, or they don't like the lights, or I should play other songs. DUDE. I AM CURRENTLY WORKING. STOP TALKING TO ME.
This makes me realise that bands should have like a signal that they can give their drummers that basically means "Please for the love of God start playing so I can get out of this"
LOL
