I lived there from 67 to to 78. It was probably 500 people. The island had the school, 2 farms and a handful of houses all near the mill. John Bracken, the former leader of the Federal Conservatives, owned most of the island and was just starting to subdivide it. It is now unrecognizable to me but I suppose that is an old story. The open green fields of the island and quiet charm of the river are all gone. It was inevitable but I am glad to have known it when it was pristine and wild.
