Far from disappointing, this video is a very uplifting! Rather than finding an abandoned ship, you found and rescued an abandoned dog. What would her chances for survival have been, had you not come along? This was no myth, but a true Christmas miracle. Thank you, Steve.
A descoberta e o resgate do cãozinho abandonado já valem e valerão por todos os vídeos, Steve! Isso não foi por acaso! Você é uma pessoa admirável! Deus o abençoe! Desculpe por eu não escrever no seu idioma! ☺️👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
People have been abandoning dogs at the old yacht club for years and years. When I lived in California I rescued several, including a mama dog and her eight pups whose great-granddaughter is sitting on the couch next to me in Texas right now. You’re a good person for looking after him.
Appreciate you for making the effort to see that poor dog was taken care of. Dogs don't deserve that and to think it was trusting its owner enough to be led out there and left alone...and maybe it was thinking they'd be back for them. People do suck. It's good you made the effort to do this video in the first place, otherwise goodness knows what would have happened to the poor thing. You and yours rock, Steve!
The person who left that dog there was terrible. I figure it could have easily escaped that cage if it wanted, but maybe it was hoping the owner would return. Still gets me mad thinking about it.
Going looking for an abandoned ship and finding an abandoned dog is a win win in my book. You most likely saved it from an unpleasant experience. Too bad that a greater number of animals haven’t been as fortunate. Great video 👌
Steve, you have nothing to apologize for - you saved a dog from what I'm sure would have been a slow, awful death. Bless you and your family - and damn the cruel, selfish SOBs who abandoned her there. Best Wishes for the New Year.
Steve, you are the man! Where some people would just walk away, you really showed a lot of kindness for a poor injured and abused animal. Have a really good New Year and best of luck with more interesting places to explore in the future!
I don't think too many people would just walk away. Not from this. People break windows to save animals from cars all the time. This is so much worse. With the car, at least the a-hole is planning on coming back. No one's coming back for this little baby. Sorry. I'm a really angry Klingon right now. I'm writing this with my little Chihuahua in my lap. Can't say anymore. Too mad.
My family and I volunteer with a no kill shelter in Tennessee. I am so glad that you took the time to help the dog. Kudos to you and your family for helping the animal. I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas.
Oh my goodness! How horrible to leave that poor dog alone in the desert. You did the right thing, sharing the story with us, and making sure she was rescued. The desert is such a fascinating place, and I love all of your adventures. Many a strange old tale can be found in the wilds of the Southwest, and you do a great job tracking them down. And how funny that you found the plastic tugboat, lol. I'll pretend there's no chance you put it there yourself (wink).
Jesus! I personally have two rescues. Dogs that were also abandoned. They have brought so much joy and love to my heart and our family. I cannot imagine harming a defenseless animal. To abandon a pet especially is evil. Thank you first for the videos you do. They are a joy to watch and thank you for rescuing the dog to authorities to take care of. You could have just as easily walked away like so many people do. Thank you.
I don't comment often but thank for taking the time to take care of the dog. This makes he even a more avid follower of your adventures! Thank you so much!
Hey Steve, Kudos to you for helping that poor dog. Additionally, really like the videos. I have read so much about AZ, NM and CA its great to see some of the places I could only imagine. I'm originally from Florida, now living in Alabama, for perspective. Thank you and your family for the entertainment and education about the places you explore.
Thank you for what you did for the doggie. You are a great person for waiting for animal control to show up. Not everyone would do that. You have a good heart. And I so enjoy your videos. A lot of places I've been to, and some I never heard of before. I love my native San Diego and southern California that I grew up in, but have now adopted Arizona as home for the past 45 years.
Regardless of what this video was intended for, you're good people. Taking the time to help is more important. It is a part of the while trip you didn't have to share but did, and rightfully so, in my opinion. Thank you for sharing that there are real people in the world who defend the helpless, even if it is a dog left abandoned in the middle of the desert. I am glad you saw the dogs rescue through, and chose to share it.
This was nothing short of a miracle find. Who cares about an old ship when you discovered something more valuable than gold. Thank you for your kind heart and saving this pups life.❤ I can't post what I think of the person who left this dog to die. So I guess they suck will have to do, but they really, really suck! Again thank you so very much!!!!!!
2023 has been quite the year to be sure...but for me The Highlight was Hooking Up With The Sidetrack Adventures Community! The Discoveries, The Stories, The Wonderful Scenery, and of course The Play By Play Narration you brought with each video Steve was The Cherry On Top! Your statement @ 6:57 "But who knows what's under these Dunes" absolutely summed my year in here riding with The SA Posse! Every trip you have taken us on has made ALL of Us think, question, research and just smile as we shake our heads over the amazements we have shared together! I'm very much looking forward to 2024 and Riding Along in This Community! Thank you as always Steve AND Family AND Fans for including me! Prayers For That Sweet Dog🙏
I’ve watched all your videos and never commented. Thank you so much for helping that dog! I can’t believe how cruel and horrible humans are. I hope it found a loving home or got the help it needs.
So glad that you were there to help the dog! Can't imagine what would have happened to that poor dog. 😢 I hope that whoever left that dog there really suffers.
I give these videos a "thumbs up" before they even start, its a sure thing. You're a good man taking care of that dog, Steve. The person that left the poor dog out there will have some spiritual reckoning to deal with.
I love watching all your videos taking us places we never knew about. Thank you so much for helping the dog, you found a treasure even if it wasn't the treasure you thought. In my eyes it was a better treasure. Please keep finding all the neat stories.
Hey, you did what was necessary. That dog needed someone, and you were the one that cared enough to intervene. I came across a dog this year in the middle of nowhere when out exploring some 4x roads in AZ. I could tell it had been out there for a little while (it's ribs showing). It was cautiously approaching me as if it were asking for help. I was able to befriend it with water and snacks and get it into my truck and back to town. Checked into the shelter, no ID chip found. I had seriously thought of adopting right then and there...but couldn't. I left her at the shelter and was informed the day after I dropped her off, that she was adopted. We can only assume that it meant the WORLD to that animal that we intervened. If we had not...would it have turned out as well for the animal? We likely saved a life that day.
Poor doggy. It's lucky for her you came along when you did. Kudos to you for aiding in her recovery. Hopefully she'll find someone who can care for her.
A proper Conquistador would never leave his treasure behind so, to me, the story is unbelievable. If it was a boat on the Salton Sea I'd imagine it was more a row boat than anything. Thanks for saving the dog. No animal needs to be left in the desert.
Steve you need to be recognized for saving that poor dog. No dog deserves that kind of treatment. Superb conduct on your part. I hope that dog finds a good forever home.
Thanks for your kindness, Steve. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family and friends. I love your videos because a lot of these places I have been to not always knowing what if anything had happened there. Again thanks!
Finding that poor lost dog was more important than finding a treasure ship laden with pearls! Another great adventure and now onward to new adventures in 2024! Happy a very Happy New Year!!
Some of your research on this lost ship video must have found the Sam Diego Reader articles written a few years back by my friend and co-adventurer Robert Marcos. He also spoke about and visited the famous sailing ship petroglyph in Pinto Canyon located near the Mexican border and Davies Valley south of Ocotillo. With some friends I made the 11 mile round trip trek to the petroglyphs there early last year. I have confirmed that there is a petroglyph of and sailing ship, suggesting that somebody in the past saw a sailing ship from the Davies Valley area and recorded it in Pinto Canyon, Thanks for saving the dog...
The Force was with you that day (I don't believe in coincidences.) If you had not come along we all know the likely outcome for that dog. People can be beyond cruel, but you help to restore my faith. Thank you for that, and thank you for helping that poor dog.
I was excited to see you making a video on this topic. If you had been a kid growing up in Palm Springs in the 50s/60s you would be well aware of the story. We understood it to be buried under the large sand hill north east of Palm Springs. Thank you for seeing to that poor dog, it speaks volumes about you character.
Great story. And small world! I am a member of Charlie Clusker’s Elk’s Lodge in San Bernardino. Cool seeing that on his headstone. Excellent work with the dog rescue also. Doing God’s work there.
I would say the trip was a massive success. You rescued a dog left to a sad fate. Thanks Steve and family for taking care of her. Hopefully by now she has a happy forever home.
the reason so many people are interested in the same things as you and your wife, Steve, is along with our interest, we really enjoy your personality and all your research..... and just think about how the dog would be doing right now if you decided to pass on this silly ship story. You are appreciated by many 🤗
Thank you for taking the time and effort to see this dog rescued. Whatever we all think of the one who dumped her, she is better off away from them! And congrats on a community here who understand what’s really important and support you. Keep up the good work!
You have nothing to apologize for regarding this video Steve! The plans changed when you came across that animal in need. I have been a fan of your posts, and had a hunch you were a really nice person with a good heart, and this proved it! When I saw the subject matter of the video, it made me think of John Grasson, who was really obsessed with the story of the lost ship(s) out there, He seemed like a kind soul as well and a fellow explorer, and I was a little saddened thinking about his passing in a car accident a couple years ago. Hopefully, there will be a happy ending for the dog! Thank you for the fine videos, that I look forward to each week! 👍👍
One of the better legends. Back in the day me and a friend explored all over the CA deserts and my friend always had a map and legend of lost treasure .....
Thank you guys so much for taking care of that dog! It was in dire need and you came to its rescue. Nothing in the old tall tales of history is as exciting to me as the story of a poor pooch who maybe thought the whole world didn't care anymore about her and found out differently. We love to watch your visits to the Salton Sea area. I was a guy in the Navy who used to go there back when it was still a viable place to boat, fish and even swim. Bless you guys, from your local pals up in the Southwestern corner of Riverside County. Maybe one day you can do a story on Lake Elsinore, the largest natural lake in SoCal? And don't forget the Santa Rosa plateau.
Thank you for taking care of the dog! I’m an avid dog person myself and I can never and will never understand why some people can be so cold and cruel.
You're doing great, your vids remind me of my dad and I bombing around the AZ desert checking out old mines and camps. Kudos to you for making sure that dog got some help.
Thanks! LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. I did animal rescue for 35 years and am never surprised by the cruelty of people. Thankyou for helping the most innocent victims. Let us know the outcome. Keep up the great show. I live close to Diablo Canyon too. Have ruins on my property.
Thank you for taking the time to rescue that poor dog! People that do things like abandoning a dog with no water should have the same treatment applied to them.
I've enjoyed all of your videos, Steve! I live in the midwest & I travel with you vicariously! The Salton Sea is actually one of those bucket list trips for a number of reasons! So, thanks for all you do & today THANKS for being so kind to help that poor animal! You're right about the dirtbag that left it there does suck! Safe travels!!👍

Sonny Bono found that ship and burned for firewood
Your the best person ever
People have been abandoning dogs at the old yacht club for years and years. When I lived in California I rescued several, including a mama dog and her eight pups whose great-granddaughter is sitting on the couch next to me in Texas right now. You’re a good person for looking after him.
That's terrible, since there are other readily available avenues for taking care of a dog or cat when you can't.
😢
California Democrats, typical behavior
That there's good eating
I like how Steve makes wandering around in the middle of nowhere into an interesting video.
Armchair enthusiast here.
yeah , i have seen dogs abandoned with a bag of dog food in the woods .it's a terrible thing to do to a dog ,they trust their owners 1
Thanks!
Agreed. THE SARGE
That dog is more important than any lost ship. God bless you sir.
Appreciate you for making the effort to see that poor dog was taken care of. Dogs don't deserve that and to think it was trusting its owner enough to be led out there and left alone...and maybe it was thinking they'd be back for them. People do suck. People do suck badly, poor pups 😢
😢
❤❤❤
It's waiting for its people to come back. I'm former police and I've seen abandoned dogs stay right where they got dumped.
Thank you for rescuing that poor pup Steve..your a good man😢
You never need to apologize for doing the right thing!
Going looking for an abandoned ship and finding an abandoned dog is a win win in my book. You most likely saved it from an unpleasant experience. Too bad that a greater number of animals haven’t been as fortunate. Great video 👌
If perhaps not your "best" video, this is easily your most important. Your interest in making this video very likely saved a life. Great job, Steve!
Thank you guys for saving the dog. Hope they can finally get a forever home where they are appreciated for being a dog!
Steve, you have nothing to apologize for - you saved a dog from what I'm sure would have been a slow, awful death. Bless you and your family - and damn the cruel, selfish SOBs who abandoned her there. Best Wishes for the New Year.
Missed a golden opportunity to keep the dog and name him Sidetrack! Still a nice save, good job!
How ironic... Your adventure got sidetracked. Thanks for helping this poor dog. Steve, you are a good man, sir...
Steve, you are the man! Where some people would just walk away, you really showed a lot of kindness for a poor injured and abused animal. Have a really good New Year and best of luck with more interesting places to explore in the future!

Sorry. I'm a really angry Klingon right now. I'm writing this with my little Chihuahua in my lap.
Can't say anymore. Too mad.
The chance of anyone walking past this dog until he was dead was very slim
I couldn't believe it when we came across her. Hopefully her life is about to get much better though.
My family and I volunteer with a no kill shelter in Tennessee. I am so glad that you took the time to help the dog. Kudos to you and your family for helping the animal. I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas.
I donate to no kill shelters. Where is that and I will send a donation. Too many animals are put down due to ignorance and mostly lack of funds
Hope you'll be able to give us an update on the dog, no matter how small.
I called today and all I really found out was they'd be adoptable after January 5 but didn't get much more info yet.
what shelter is the dog at? @@SidetrackAdventures
Lots of,people live around the salton sea, probably belongs to one of them
not an ideal situation either way =(@@robertlyman9789
@@SidetrackAdventures I'm still thinking about this dog. Any news?

Great job Steve!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for your kindness and concern for this poor dog!❤
Thank you Steve! Once again you set the standard for RUclips, unlike many "content creators" whose every episode is an ego trip.
Hey Steve, Kudos to you for helping that poor dog. Additionally, really like the videos. I have read so much about AZ, NM and CA its great to see some of the places I could only imagine. Good work rescuing that dog. That was a kindly and decent thing to do. Highly commendable! A humane act.

That poor pup. I'm sure that that dog is greatfull for saving her life. I appreciated this video more, knowing that you cut it short to save her life.
Thank you for rescuing that fur baby!❤. I definitely want to know what happens to her!
You’re a good man Steve, don’t apologize. We’ve always enjoyed your content, but now will enjoy it even more
You're a good man Steve, thanks for taking the time to care for that dog. He owes you his life ❤
Thank you for saving that dog. you are a great persons and i will tell my family and friends about a man in the desert that saved a dog
I give these videos a "thumbs up" before they even start, its a sure thing.
You're a good man taking care of that dog, Steve. The person that left the poor dog out there will have some spiritual reckoning to deal with.
Never head of Lake Cahuilla or the lost ship. Interesting. You are the best giving history. Thank you for rescuing that dog.

More important to get the dog some help than to find a fictional ship. God bless.
Thank you for your concern about the canine. You’re a caring person.

Very happy that you were able to help the dog Steve.
Good that you decided to go there.
Thanks.
Still enjoyable and knowledgeable info you provided! You're a good person. Will follow on the updates.
Thanks. I wanted to talk about a few more stories but daylight wasn't on our side.
How sad but it's wonderful of you to make sure he is saved.
Great first
Congratulations!
Hell yeah dude, I’m glad you were able to get some help for that dog. It breaks my heart how cruel people can be to animals.
Always good to explore l.
Also people suck who left that dog.
Such an awful thing to do.
Thanks for taking care of the pup!!
Thank you, I appreciate it. Hoping to have a dog update this week.
Man I really want to adopt that dog. That's so horrible.
I called to check on her today. They said she'd be adoptable on January 5th.
Thank U for saving the Precious Dog. 👍❤️. And I Love your videos. ❤
You’re a good person, Steve. Thanks for getting that pooch the help it needed. Hopefully it got the help it needed

Thanks for helping that poor dog -- good job------------
I would say the trip was a massive success. You rescued a dog left to a sad fate. Thanks Steve and family for taking care of her. Hopefully by now she has a happy forever home.

In my case, Steve goes to places where I would like to go. but can't at least I can see them with his videos.
Thank you for taking the time and effort to see this dog rescued. Whatever we all think of the one who dumped her, she is better off away from them!
And congrats on a community here who understand what’s really important and support you. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for sharing and taking care of the dog…!
Thank you for taking care of the dog! I’m an avid dog person myself and I can never and will never understand why some people can be so cold and cruel.
Thanks! Steve for saving the dog 🐕
I really appreciate your realness. Your well spoken no sense of bs here just facts.
This is such Grace that led you to this poor baby.Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for helping that poor dog Steve. I really enjoy your videos!
You're doing great, your vids remind me of my dad and I bombing around the AZ desert checking out old mines and camps. Kudos to you for making sure that dog got some help.
Not sure why some humans are so cruel.
One thing we know, that Steve is a jewel.
Peace & Love all ✨
Thanks! LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. I did animal rescue for 35 years and am never surprised by the cruelty of people. Thankyou for helping the most innocent victims. Let us know the outcome. Keep up the great show. I live close to Diablo Canyon too. Have ruins on my property.
Its so sad that people would do this to a dog, who has nothing but trust in that person.
Blessings on you for your kindness to a helpless creature.
Thank you so much for being a wonderful human. That poor dog probably didn't stand a chance had you not come along. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I've seen some weird things at the Salton Sea, but never a dog. Thanks for taking time to care for that dog!
Thank you for helping the dog 🐕 ❤️ 🙏
People are the worst. Thanks for sharing and calling Animal Control. We've watched a majority of your videos, but this is the most uplifting.
Thank you for taking the time to rescue that poor dog! People that do things like abandoning a dog with no water should have the same treatment applied to them.
Thanks for helping that poor dog. I hope she finds a loving home.
