Hi I am a mechanic who started working in Kenya in late 80s to Early 2000 before moving to Dubai in 2003. One knowledge that was a great breakthrough to me is understanding the use of a Component called Thermostat in the cooling system and its relation to the way the ECU works. In Kenya mechanics remove the thermostat and Throw it away instead of replacing it with a new one, they also use water instead of coolant. Those two things alone opens a can of worms in any car. Those with GDI engines it's even worse. Once the THERMOSTAT has been removed the engine will not reach the normal operating temperature fast, low temperature trigers the computer to sense that the engine needs to warm up fast and so it sends a message to the injectors to put more fuel in the engine, in the meantime the engine remains cold and therefore it does not burn all that fuel which then turns into carbon, fails the combustion Chambers and prevents the plugs from firing. Cold cylinders allow fuel to leak into the crankcase through the rings ruining the lubricating quality of the engine oil. All these happen quite fast. ....TBC
my dad had his thermostat removed then instead connected the fan direct such that when he starts up the engine whether cold or hot the fan is always rotating , the bad part is that the car sometimes loses power and when the mechanic checks he always finds carbon in the plugs besides dad always complaining that his car is consuming more fuel
i disagree that Nissan KG11 dashboard blistering is a very minor issue on a very small part of the dashboard, maybe only 5% on the right side of the steering wheel.
Good advice. For those who are critical of this video, the review is talking about high failure rates and not failure guarantees. So afew owners may be lucky... And ofcourse low luck is low chance.
Thank you for pointing this out. Another thing to note is that some Kenyans want to buy vehicles they can abuse, some of the so called reliable brands can take abuse better than the rest. I use a Nissan daily and it appears in the unreliable list but I treat it like a Merc and it reciprocates.
Have been driving a Nissan Sylphy since 2014. Never had a problem other than the dashboard. Have found it to be my most reliable car since. Maybe I have been lucky. However I have noted you rarely ever find Nissan Salon cars in a garage. Grant it I maybe more biased as a long time owner though. Major issue about that model is the clearance. We mostly meet when repairing the front bumper but rarely anything mechanical.
We own a Nissan Pathfinder. About 2 years ago it started overheating, gasket had to be changed. Upon reassembly, the turbo refused to function. We've lived without it since. It is the perfect car if you do long travel but now without the turbo, it doesn't feel the same. The good thing with all the hustles of fixing it is that it's taught me a lot about cars.

I just found this and its awesome
I owned a Navara and strongly beg to differ. Best car I have ever had. Shida ya wakenya nikupeleka navara grogon 😆 Trick is to service it with genuine parts ie oil filter, air cleaner and good synthetic oil. Also avoid many hands handling it.
Very educative brother, a wajir-ian boy greets you, already a fun

Very insightful. Make one video of Reliable Locally used cars. We are people of "no kūgeria mani" so we want what we can buy locally used. Great job lakini Woks!
