blgdoesthings Haha true. I just noticed that. They do look pretty similar. Aside from that, it still looks fun to play. Art of Fighting has taken inspo from Street Fighter as well in various ways, but it's still a solid series, so I'm willing to give Martial Masters a pass. ☺
Trivia: Master Huang is probably based on Wong Fei Hung, a Chinese folk hero. He was a doctor/healer by trade, which is why he reserves the majority of his fighting with his kicks because "what the feet destroys, the hands heal".
***** Haha lol i always wondered that cause alot of things about this game screamed SF 3 even down to alot of the animations graphics and sprites. Despite that i still like this game, a pretty cool fighter not many people know about. Thanks for the longplay man love your videos. :)
Without a doubt there is a very strong link here, that's the first thing that came to mind when I first saw this game. I often wondered who created the animations for the SF3 series (not so much the sprites themselves, but rather the tight anime/disney-style lineart that the sprites are based on which can be seen in the Secret Files panels and the old strategy guides) and I wouldn't be surprised if some unknown animation studio had been involved in both. In other words ... I think this too well done to be just a copy, the DNA is definitely there. Crane doesn't look like a Chun clone but more like an early draft, which would explain why Chun looked so good and smooth in 3S without being based on any earlier iteration. This is all speculation of course. But regardless, stunning work.
Yeah Master Huang is definitely Jet Li's version of Wong Fei Hung. His fighting intro is dead giveaway with the umbrella, fedora, glasses etc. & if you know the entire film series you know that Ghost Kick is Thunderfoot from Once Upon a Time in China 3.
this game totally should've had more exposure back when it was released. a shame Taiwan doesn't show up in the map of game developers, this is a true gem.
This game is a hidden gem. I just played this for the first time yesterday, and I surprisingly enjoyed it a great deal. Sure it rips off other fighting games in some aspects, but it also has it's own uniqueness to it. I found it easy to quickly pick up and play, as it does have a similar feel to Street Fighter III. IGS could have really made a name for themselves, had they released this a few year earlier.
People tend to compare it with SF3 when its more closer to SFAlphas, visually. And as for gameplay its a 4 button game like Neogeo fighters, with a great combo system. Overall its a unique and fantastic game that belongs among the top 2d fighting games.
Doesn't help that they've swiped sound effects from Capcom titles again, either. The light attack is the block from X-Men: Children of the Atom, and the block sound effect is from Street Fighter 3.
Master Huang is probably completely Wong Fei Hung, and not just inspiration. "Wong Fei Hung" is how the name is usually transliterated from Cantonese, but "Huang Fei Hong" is the usual transliteration from Mandarin Chinese.
Damn. After over a decade, I found this game again. Seems like forever ago that I was watching the attract mode in the arcade section of my town's bowling alley. Time flies.
Like the BGM version of the theme "Under the General's Orders" being played, the same theme that all Once Upon a time in China uses. A must watch for any fans of Kung Fu movies to see Jet Li in his prime (and also probably the last use of wire fu before computer CGI being used).
Hanferd My favorite is Jet Li's Fist of Legend. One if his earlier masterful works during his era here in America and when we've discovered his beautiful crafts. Definitely check thst out if you haven't. #ShoNuff
AToH Project I blame my dad back in the 80's renting bad pirate VHS tapes of Golden Harvest movies and horror genre (I never watched a Shaw Studio movie until late when File Sharing was around, and also now with people uploading 2 hour long old movies in youtube). Tsui Hark martial art movies are not bad as they are mostly deconstruction of what is "popular" in Hong Kong movie genre. But then again I didn't start to like Kung Fu movie until the early 90's when Wong Fei Hung was reinvented due to Jet Li (The really old Wong Fei Hong movie was black and white with an really old guy called Kwan Tak Hing).
Someone mentioned that they're all based on characters from kung fu cinema, and that's about correct, especially the Scorpio guy: exactly the fighter seen in the film "Operation Scorpio". Look it up.
This game is like the "new geneation" of its kind, its animation is superb, they try to implement something new to the fighting formula but the system is laggy and missing something. Too bad it won't get a 2nd impact or 3rd strike. I actually would have loved for this game to get some arcade play if not give it recognition for a game that tried (as well as give these fighting stereotypes to some goddamn personality!
this is a great obscure fighter ..the characters and graphics are spot on..would love to see a sequel with more characters also have it be available for consoles....
Does anyone know if IGS used some kind of Capcom software? The graphics are very similar to the Capcom art of the SF Alpha series. I absolutely love this style and the animations are rock solid for a 2D fighter.
Too bad I overlooked this game at the student activities center when I was in college; looks rough around the edges, but polished at the same time. Crazy how it was published and developed in Taiwan, but to me it gives off Capcom/Street Fighter III vibes as far as animation and fluidity. If my local arcade wasn't charging a $25 admission fee (too damn high), then I'd go down there one day and play this joint. Looks fun
Please port this over to the Nintendo Switch! I'd buy it instantly. Looks pretty cool. .....Plus, adding 4 more new characters and upgrading the backgrounds and music wouldn't hurt sales either. (Capcom inside joke here.)
Most likely not gonna happen. IGS usually only makes arcade games. They've made some mobile games, but the only console game they've made is a PS4 Knights of Valour game in 2017.
I seem to remember there being a prequel to this game. Had a lot of the same characters and everything. It didn't look this good and it didn't play this well. That's why I defended Demon Front; This company is not some shady group of Taiwanese pirates. They're honest-to-god designers that get no respect because nobody's ever played their games. Shame, really.
The shadow attacks are pretty awesome! Can all the characters move around and attack while their shadow clone's active, or is it exclusive to Scorpion?
The colors are bright, the animation is sooo fluid.... the backgrounds are typical... the characters are standard { love how they misspelled TRUE Lotus Master } Too bad. This could have been one of the great ones.
The recent IGS Collection lets you fight as True Lotus Master and it's the only way for me to cheese this game. Gorgeous animations but the CPU can be SNK level in terms of being a cheap bastard
those aren't the characters' real names apparently, just 'titles' i guess scorpion's real name is something like 'li bai' if i remember right, for example
I've played this both in the arcade and on emulator, and the one thing this game couldn't imitate from Street Fighter 3 is the control. It's not bad, but it feels stiffer and less responsive when compared to the smooth and sharp controls of the classics. Yeah, I can see the comparisons to Street Fighter 3 here, but the animations, art and design are awesome, and have its own identity. This smacks of genuine effort.
Jeremiah Cuff in Huang's defense i must say, kikoshou copies exist in many other fighting games...mostly because the move plays a bit of a...unique role.
**sobs** The Engrish translations... the awkward music design... it cheapens what's otherwise a visually remarkable package from a country that isn't internationally known for its domestic video games...
the sprites are so well drawn, i was surprised this game wasn't made by Capcom.
This is like a mix of Capcom and Snk's best animation and design teams.
They did a well done job on this game. There's something fresh about it.
If Street Fighter III and KOF had a baby together, this game would be the glorious lovechild of that union! This shit is amazing!
They straight up just stole the foreground for monkey boys stage. Its oro from 2nd impacts foreground
blgdoesthings Haha true.
All the characters are based in Hong Kong movies.
Seriously, this is one of the most gorgeous 2d fighting game that i've ever played
Shared someof SF 3's animations and side effects always wondered if some of the people that worked on SF 3 worked on this. Very fun a under-rated gem.
***** Haha lol i always wondered that cause alot of things about this game screamed SF 3 even down to alot of the animations graphics and sprites. Despite that i still like this game, a pretty cool fighter not many people know about. Thanks for the longplay man love your videos. :)
These "off-brand" fighting games especially ones from China are known for stealing, or copying animations from other fighting games.
A lot do copy so true. Sometimes too it does happen to be some of the people who did work on it in some rare cases.

IGS is Taiwan not China
This looks like a long lost forgotten fighting game
Yeah Master Huang is definitely Jet Li's version of Wong Fei Hung. His fighting intro is dead giveaway with the umbrella, fedora, glasses etc. & if you know the entire film series you know that Ghost Kick is Thunderfoot from Once Upon a Time in China 3.
this game totally should've had more exposure back when it was released.
a shame Taiwan doesn't show up in the map of game developers, this is a true gem.
It's like if Breakers and Ninja Masters had an unwanted child when they were teenagers and threw it into a dumpster.
Roberto Berríos But it didn’t deserve it
Martial Masters is a criminally overlooked game
game looks gorgeous! animations, effects... everything is nicely done
Gus Buster it was made in 2001 lol
I was 8 Years Younger back than.
Blake Napier oh, nice.
Omar Elkahky Back when WWF WCW and ECW of Attitude Ruthless Aggression Era was still going on.
This game is a hidden gem. I just played this for the first time yesterday, and I surprisingly enjoyed it a great deal. Rockman IXA did you use mame and which mame did you use I used to be able to get this to play but it stopped loading or whatever
Pizone81 I didn't use MAME, I use Final Burn Alpha.
Rockman IXA Dude, by any chance you have the link for the english version of this game? I seem to get only the roms in chinese.
This game gives off a serious Darkstalkers vibe in terms of animation.
This game looks completely "Capcomish", seems like a good game.
People tend to compare it with SF3 when its more closer to SFAlphas, visually.
And as for gameplay its a 4 button game like Neogeo fighters, with a great combo system.
Overall its a unique and fantastic game that belongs among the top 2d fighting games.

if you watching jet li classic movie "wong fei hung" it more like it being taken from that movies
+Ardhi Menggala yeah Master Huang remind me of Jet Li :)
+Ardhi Menggala I think Master Huang was inspired by Wong Fei Hung. haha Once Upon a Time in China love that movie
that is a classic
Master Huang is probably completely Wong Fei Hung, and not just inspiration. "Wong Fei Hung" is how the name is usually transliterated from Cantonese, but "Huang Fei Hong" is the usual transliteration from Mandarin Chinese.
Even his home music is straight out of the Once upon a time movies
At first glace, I'd think this is something Capcom and Arc System Works colaborated on. I love fluid 2D animated hand drawn fighting games.
Street fighter Alpha + The Last Blade
Damn. After over a decade, I found this game again.
Seems like forever ago that I was watching the attract mode in the arcade section of my town's bowling alley. Time flies.
Just wanted to say, this looks damn awesome. Beautiful animation
Wong Fei Hung once upon a time china
I played this on MAME. It's really cool. Love the characters and animations. I didn't know the Chinese even made arcade games.
Actually the Taiwanese made this game
Master Huang has Chun-li's Kikosho. Also, his battleshout is kinda unique. HUAI HENG YAO!!
Like the BGM version of the theme "Under the General's Orders" being played, the same theme that all Once Upon a time in China uses. A must watch for any fans of Kung Fu movies to see Jet Li in his prime (and also probably the last use of wire fu before computer CGI being used).

AToH Project
Of course I seen Fist of Legend :D That movie is considered one of Jet Li best movie (and also Yuen Wo Ping best choreographed movie)
Hanferd Ahhhhh you sir have a fine taste in Wu Shu cinema!! :D Stay blessed, brethren. ^_^
AToH Project

Such an underrated fighter, animation and game play are fantastic on it! I've owned it twice on cart and would go back for a 3rd time.
Someone mentioned that they're all based on characters from kung fu cinema, and that's about correct, especially the Scorpio guy: exactly the fighter seen in the film "Operation Scorpio". Look it up.
Definitely one of the coolest character animations I've seen, labor of love to make that work.
I would love to see a 'Marshall Mathers plays Martial Masters' longplay.
LOL good one, loved the rhyme scheme with your word play
This looks pretty good. What about a re-release for xbox live ? :D
Wow, they just took the plot of Once Upon A Time in China II. They even had the White Lotus sect as the main villains.
8 years later just found you channel and subscribed 😀 great game
Thx for the video
Thanks a lot. Forgive me. HOME WITH YOU!
How the Fuck can you hate on Master Huang!!!
Master Huang is like Ipman, this arcade reminds me all 70´s OLD kung fu movies----
This looks like a CAPCOM Fighting game..
Master Huang is very like a Lee from The Last Blade
Wow. Never heard of this. Some creative animations, Scorpion.
I’m pretty shocked this game fell under the radar. You’d think it’d have more attention at least for the absolutely gorgeous art and animation work
I'm surprised more games don't adopt that Back Escape & Attack maneuver.
This game is like the "new geneation" of its kind, its animation is superb, they try to implement something new to the fighting formula but the system is laggy and missing something. Too bad it won't get a 2nd impact or 3rd strike. I love this game! I play it nightly! Gorgeous game
this is a great obscure fighter ..the characters and graphics are spot on..would love to see a sequel with more characters also have it be available for consoles....
I'll have to admit. The rival match was pretty badass with the music and the stage. It was like watching an anime.
11:00 is a seriously hype moment that you really shouldn't jump to right now. You'll see what I mean.
Does anyone know if IGS used some kind of Capcom software? The graphics are very similar to the Capcom art of the SF Alpha series. I absolutely love this style and the animations are rock solid for a 2D fighter.
There should be an ''IGS Collection'' released with this game included! These guys did some great things. I love Demon Front as well.
Well you're in luck lol
@@megamix5403 I've read though that it uses a forced 16:9 aspect ratio for whatever reason. I'll check it out if they patch it.
Is like Street fighter Alpha 3.
This is gorgeous, even if they stole things.
I don't think they stole much of anything other than Chun-li's Kikosho, even with that it has its own animation
Ghost Kick may have the best stance out of any character, ever.
Never saw this in the arcade 🧐🧐🧐
Shame the SBF broke up. I would've loved to see this on a Fisticuffs.
Woolie has a clip of this game in his GIFG intro.
love the music ... good old times
Love this game! thanks for longplaying it!

Jailbreak your Switch and play it on MAME boy
This aged like fine wine.
that crane's smooth animations tho

That's why I defended Demon Front; This company is not some shady group of Taiwanese pirates. They're honest-to-god designers that get no respect because nobody's ever played their games.
Shame, really.
Man, this game has great polish on the animations (and some neat mechanics ideas) but everything else... Also, is the music playing at twice speed?
Man it looks great for something ripped off from other games.
Portrayal of JET LI
Anyone know how to get this game to run and on which emulator?
The shadow attacks are pretty awesome! Can all the characters move around and attack while their shadow clone's active, or is it exclusive to Scorpion?
What happened to IGS this game and Road of the Sword were impressive
The colors are bright, the animation is sooo fluid.... the backgrounds are typical... the characters are standard { love how they misspelled TRUE Lotus Master }
Too bad. This could have been one of the great ones.
2:25 this is literally a blonde Robert Garcia.
HIS NAME IS TIGER GOD DAMNIT
This should be on the Dreamcast.
I agree. Back in 2000.
I could never beat the last boss. Not even a single round... Damn, the game looks and plays nice, but is incredibly hard.
The recent IGS Collection lets you fight as True Lotus Master and it's the only way for me to cheese this game.
Gorgeous animations but the CPU can be SNK level in terms of being a cheap bastard
@@JeroenZM Nice to know about this collection... Thanx!
those aren't the characters' real names apparently, just 'titles' i guess
scorpion's real name is something like 'li bai' if i remember right, for example
20:36 - Is that to unlock a new character?
Was that first released on SNK hardware? Capcom's? Or was this on IGS own hardware?
Monkey boy's stage is almost resembles Oro's stage from Street Fighter III.
Good job...you got an beautyfull longplay😄👍
Please, respect the original aspect ratio :)))
Não conhecia esse jogo. Que legal!
Great game, but it really bothers me how Huang's Pectoral Muscles wrap entirely around his neck in his victory screens.
I remember playing this in the rec room at my college’s student union.
Ah man, they need to port this to PS4. I missed out on too many arcade fighters. This looks amazing.
Foram eles que animaram o street fighter 3.
Quantos e quais outros jogos japoneses eles animaram ???
Uma pergunta melhor ainda. desde quando eles vem terceirizando a produção para a coreia e china ?
You cannot name "Scorpion" any character in a fighting game, that name is off the grid.
never played this may have to try it out. looks good
very polite on the victory screen..."thanks very much"
What mame does this run on been trying to find for awhile
You must have the difficulty turned WAY down. The AI in this game can be brutal.
this game looks nice..
Hi, I just found out about this game, which emulator can you use to play it?
mame
2:42 what?
Beautiful gaming !!!
master huang looks like lee from the last blade
Anybody know how to get this game working on MAME I got it to work years ago but I don’t remember how or what MAME i used
How to play it in English? You change region in test mode?
I've played this both in the arcade and on emulator, and the one thing this game couldn't imitate from Street Fighter 3 is the control. It's not bad, but it feels stiffer and less responsive when compared to the smooth and sharp controls of the classics.
Yeah, I can see the comparisons to Street Fighter 3 here, but the animations, art and design are awesome, and have its own identity. This smacks of genuine effort.
There are a Mugen char of the blonde guy xD
More like world of balls aspect ratio.
I wish this was on consoles
is it just me or is one of Master Huang's super moves a ripoff of Chun Li's Kikoshou move?
Jeremiah Cuff in Huang's defense i must say, kikoshou copies exist in many other fighting games...mostly because the move plays a bit of a...unique role.
oh, that's makes sense I guess, thanks for explaining it to me my friend.
That burning house background from Last Blade 2 is worth ripping off.
