Great film. I've been surfing for 26 years and just moved inland to Traverse City about a year ago. I haven't done any lake surfing, because I don't have the right gear yet! But I've already found some spots that work. Seeya out there. Cheers!
As a west coast surfer, I've always been fascinated to know how you dudes do it on the Great Lakes. Unfortunately, there's very few videos on RUclips that detail much of that activity. Solid video!
It's quite the experience. I first learned to surf in San Diego and coming back to the lakes, the surfing is very familiar but different at the same time. You're really hunting for the waves out here on the lakes since the wind conditions change so drastically. So a lot of the time, it's not so much going back to your favorite spot every day as it is looking at the forecast and traveling to be at the right spot.
I'm stoked enough to comment twice. Keep up the great vibes young fellers! Best times I had surfing was climbing down icy cliffs finding new spots around the lakes! Keep it up young brothers and if you see an old "Gray Bush" out there and he accidentally drops in... don't get too mad. He's only got so many waves left. 😉
Stay RAD🤙 I lived in SOCAL 32 yrs ago and surfed. Mostly boogie and sometimes with a surfboard but got impatient with it and went back boogie to get more waves. I had to move back to M and never back on a board again 'til 32 yrs later. I just surfed in Florida on vaca for the first time since. Got instructions on a 9' longy bought my own longy til after 3rd sesh in ripped from nose back. Bummer. Didn't realize China made CNC made boards. But it felt great in the water again. The instructor said I handled myself and board well in the water. So i still had some skills, i guess. I've been surf skating since April to help progress. Its working . Lots if hills in Marquette, Mi. I carve and cruise down hills. So fun and rad and love the edgy-ness of it all. Feel so friggin' alive. Then I bought a 6' quad which took a couple of sesh but by 3rd sesh i was getting up on it. Super stoked cause i had no idea if i could make that happen. So being in Marquette and watching dudes surf for a few yrs. thought it a little crazy cause so cold water. Now like the dude said. I think surfing all the time and surf skating. Many things didn't work out in my life, some fault my own but getting back into the surfer world is great medicine for me. Just had the best surf skate sesh yet. I was flying around and down hills. Made an elementary school parking lot and driveways my own skate park. Now i don't want to wait to go back to Florida, i just got a board and wetsuit coming to try the Gitch. Question: im getting a 6/5 mm suit booties 7mm and mittens. Is that too much or do you guys use something a little less thickness til it gets real cold like below 40 deg?? Im not a big fan of the cold but here i live in it and try my best to have fun with it. So any suggestions on how you dudes do it will be greatly appreciated. Aloha, stay stoked and rad regardless. Not many ppl will understand or even the gfriend but there are some that do. And i find thats enuff.. 🤙✌️
I started surfing with wing foiling. The waves scare me how big they are and how epic the crashes with a blade under feet riding three feet above the surface.
"Inspired by Chicken Joe" fucking kills me lol. But fr tho, chicken joe is the whole reason I know you can surf the heartland and why its on my bucket list.
It's funny to think that these kids weren't even born when Vince D's Surf Michigan video(s) came out. Similar vibe to the video. Though nowadays, finding clean, quality waves is way, way easier than it was back then.

It’s all about friends and family in the waves. He’s right. 💙

Quality production, well worth watching.
Awesome video! I took a little video of you guys (I think) surfing the 60 mph winds yesterday. Looks like fun, but too intense for me! You guys rock!
The waves!!!
Just moved to Chicago from Oahu, thanks for the stoke!
Only 300 views what the heck! Looks like a full blown documentary that would be on Netflix good stuff
Sick, very inspiring, whatever it takes is the way to do it, ya boys keep the dream alive 🍻
The love for the search!
So cool! Actually looks pretty legit.
Stay RAD🤙

I definitely feel that, having to chase the storm feeling, I can't be content anymore unless I'm hunting down waves during or after a storm

Good stuff. Would love to surf with you guys if you’re ever around Holland
Chill_adventures was there the other day, posted a video about it.
