I’ve been stuck on killer sudoku for a while now, but him mentioning the the rule of 45 opened so many doors and made me wonder how I didn’t think of it earlier
I'm quite new to 'killer' sudoko and have struggled to complete some of them. These videos however, have been an absolute godsend and I'm now able to tackle them without the dread in which I first encountered them. Thanks for all of your solves they really do help me in my puzzling. 👍
Fabulous explanation. It makes perfect sense. Thank you for your invaluable insights. Logical but not obvious to me. I have just applied your logic and am so happy I can now tackle the expert level.
Great! I try to find cages hanging out of grids and figure out what would the outsides of the grid add to. Squares that stick out of the grid can contain the same number. I also take the add to 45 in grid rule, then drawing new cages in my head, then knowing that the amount of the out squares of each overlapping cage must be the difference of the overlapping cages . I've been getting killer sudokus harder than this one and keep starting over if I keep getting a conflict. It means I did something wrong.
I did not know about the 45 rule! I was already doing everything else but the 45 rule helped me solve a super hard killer sudoku without a single mistake
Besides the killer maths and adding to 45, you could also get the 8 in box 7 by saying the 14 next to it has to be 59, because 68 is ruled out by the 36 pair in box 9. Which also leaves 8 as the only number to be placed.
I'm sure I would need pencil marks at some point. However, I can see in R7 the 9 cage is 3 & 6, the 14 cage is 4 & 9 and the two cells not part of the 7 cage must be 7 & 8. By adding the cages totals in C8 & 9 you will see that R3C7 must be 9, From that you can fill out 6 numbers in the bottom horizontal chute before starting to notate. Good solving here, and I am trying to improve my killer skills.
I have never before seen another player complete a killer sudoku, but it seems to me that this is nowhere near a Deadly standard. I have been doing The Times KS every day that a Deadly one is available, and I was hoping to find an insight into techniques that are more efficient than my own.
To be fair, you can see him load the deadly from the Times website at the start of the video... this was definitely the deadly KS. You can also check the rest of the early channel. He used to do the deadly every week back in the early days.
This was pretty simple to be rated deadly tbh. I could see completing it before I even started. And I'm saying this because I'm sometimes not even able to solve 7/10 killer sudokus in dailykillersudoku.com. A "Deadly" definitely can't be easier than a 7/10
Hi there! Do you ever come across a killer sudoku puzzle that by the end requires a real guess? I’ve got one that comes down to choices between to sets of numbers and I don’t see a way to logic my way through!
Perhaps a bit of both. I certainly know lots of the basic combinations for 2 or 3 cell possibles. I guess I do so many puzzles though that my "puzzle" maths is ok too.
..made easy? Come on. The killer sudokus that you are solving is not the hard to begin with. Look at dailykillersudoku.com. The killer sudokus graded 5 out of 10 in difficulty are more difficult than the ones you are solving. Please solve some harder killer sudokus on this channel!

are these really the hardest?? All the sudokus this guy does are medium at best
You may enjoy this one more. Probably worth having a go at the puzzle yourself first. There are videos on the channel that cater for every level of difficulty so hopefully you'll find other videos you enjoy more: ruclips.net/video/D3wcNdO4pDI/видео.html
This may be easy for the world champion, but, if you are going to make a video to explain the process to us lesser mortals.....SLOW THE *&^% DOWN!!!!!! Towards the end, you were just filling in numbers all over the grid with no explanation of how you were getting them.
Watched this mostly at 1.75x because it was really slow for me although english is not my native language. You can decrease the video speed on youtube respectively to follow obvious unexplained numbers. I promise after several solves your speed will increase dramatically, don't worry.

Look who's just discovered the "secret"
@@nanamacapagal8342 bruh you have no idea
I need some ikr passed that for help. Is why I went on RUclips. Sometimes the 45 rule isn’t enough.
It is amazing how much Simon´s ability to explain things has improved since this video was made! Congrats!

Found this video for tips. 3 years of progress are very noticeable. Good for you Simon! I'm pleased you are popular now!
Thank you for these videos Simon, I am now making headway with the hardest Killer puzzles
So the sum to 45 seems the key. Thanks!
Nowadays you would call that "the secret".

Came here from ISABS video and now I’m hooked on the Channel
Simon really explains his thought process very well. I’m learning so much from his videos 😀

Excited that I almost matched Simon’s time, although I’m not narrating my thoughts on the puzzle. Nice to see where ctc started from!
My head just exploded...
its easy math but you have to understand meaning of everything

Could you explain this further?
I’ve never played a game of sudoku in my life, why am I here at 3 AM
brother u and me both
I like it much better now that we can try all the puzzles using your software, 10-19-2021
Thank you so much! That was really helpful!

I love the way you explain things. please tell me which software you use.
Yes, what is the software, please? @cracking the cryptic?
The 90 thing blew my mind a little 😂
ooo nice finally a one that I didn’t know about

Nice
I have been stuck on one for quite awhile, any suggestions where I can go to get advice on it.

ahh 5:20 i did the 14 must be made up of 5,8 & 9 which can only be 5&9 so i got 8 in the correct box :)
Did you memorized all the combinations or you're just really fast at math?
Perhaps a bit of both. I certainly know lots of the basic combinations for 2 or 3 cell possibles. I guess I do so many puzzles though that my "puzzle" maths is ok too.
I think my brain stopped working
This helped a little but thanks!
I wish you would always go this fast when there's nothing difficult. This was more entertaining, closer to my own solving speed.
My brain
Gotta go. Bathroom duty is calling
My toxic trait is thinking I can do it only watch 5 minutes of the video 😢
