I used a 240b for several years, in Iraq, and Afghanistan. I learned over time that I could lower the gas selector which controls rate of fire, and squeeze out single rounds. It took alot of practice, but hitting a man sized target with a single round at 800 meters was definitely doable. I got my experience doing this on dismounted patrols in Afghanistan. The entire reason was dealing with multiple engagements on each patrol, and having a limited ammo capacity. You don't want to get 30k into rural mountain areas, and have your biggest gun run out of ammunition. To the person or persons who made this weapon with a single fire option, good job!

They actually removed the adjustable gas regulator at some point. I carried an M240L from 2016-19 and all of our gas regulators had one setting at about 600 RPM

In 05 in Iraq the army gave the platoon three new barrels per 240, and we pretended they were 249s for a day before turning the old ones in. So not only can you carry this in a backpack, but if you're on single fire, you have a sniper rifle with a pretty long range optic, a round that can reach that range, and switch to machine gun mode to lay down a wall of lead. And its lighter than a 240. Its the perfect machine.

I was thinking that IF we go after the unconstitutional bit by bit, we should go after the fact that WAR is a lawful purpose for the 2A, then anything else that they want to ban is void. The fact that they want to tax our rights away in some blue states gives us the best chance to open the door for going after the NFA as a tax. Only the Hughes amendment would be left...and that's not very solid if the rug gets pulled out of the NFA.

I'm Australian, I was just amazed with the barrel change and to fit it into a backpack and reading some of the comments about the select fire which seems to be well liked. Having a Ruger M77 in 308win, I just know how heavy it gets after walking 15km so less weight than a M240B would also be appreciated by those who had to carry the 240.

There have been concepts like this in terms of attempting to create machine gun sniper rifles to cover the movement of infantryman. The AUG squad automatic weapon with its 24-inch barrel attachment. And then Russian modifications of 12.7 machine guns with rifle scopes, bipods, and rifle stocks. This is an incredible concept.
Not so much a machine gun sniper, just because a weapon has an optic and can launch a round pretty far doesn't mean it's a sniper rifle, or even that it can do it nearly as accurately.
The old M2 had single shot ability. My father told me a story about the time he was in Korea and used the semiauto feature of the M2 to range in on the long range position of an NKA forward observer. When the observer showed himself dad let go with full auto.
This is very cool, it would be nice to see a side by side next to the sig MG 338. This system seems much more simple although the sig has some good simplifications as well.

@austindiaz6767 If I am ever at the point where I need fully automatic suppressing fire at 1600m range, my opponent will most likely have already removed me from the field of combat via a drone strike. At my age and fitness level, escape and evasion is a much more appropriate self-defense tactic under any scenario where the reapr would be deployable. Fun toy, and now that I've seen it in action, I definitely want one, but most certainly not a self-defense weapon for me personally.

You didn't actually physically carry it. It was in a box like a coffin that we carried in our Peacekeeper trucks. This stuff is much bigger than the stupid XM7 rifle. Not everybody should be a DMR marksman. But replacing the M249 with the XM250 that has twice the power for less weight and the M240b with this which has again twice the power for less weight is actually huge.
I agree. I'm more interested in the M250 as a replacement for the SAW than I am the M7 replacing the M4. The M250 seems to me more capable than both the M249 and the M240 while being lighter. The REAPR seems to bridge the gap between the M240 and the M2A1 while being noticeably lighter. It's the ammunition that might bring the system weight to the point where it's an issue.
I’m convinced that the XM250 is the only one of the two weapons that will actually see widespread use. The XM7 with the new optic will end up being used as a DM/Sniper rifle, which it will no doubt excel at. I’m betting the XM250 will end up coming in both .277 and eventually 5.56.
The XM7 is just some overinflated Pentagon Wars bullshit. Thing looks super heavy and for close combat is where the M4 shines because you can shoot multiple shots in quick succession because the recoil is so low.

One thing I absolutely love, is the fact that grip is shaped and sized like a pistol. As someone who has shot the 240b more times than I can count - that was one of my biggest 'gripes' (If you can call it that) The grip was oversized. Even for what it was (And I have large hands). Having a handgun sized grip and trigger group, etc, just makes all the sense in the world.
That thing is awesome! I'd normally say "I'd be shocked if the military didn't adopt this gun" but after the last three years I wouldn't be shocked if they gave all our guns to the enemy and forced our soldiers to use spears.
I've seen some talk about "Carrying a conversion kit adds more weight and you lose the point of the weapon if you switch to 7.62." No. You don't carry the conversion kit on missions. And the point is that even in 7.62, it's no LESS effective than the 240 with the added benefit of being able to shoot the more effective .338 when available. The tool-less conversion matters when you're at an isolated post and have to adapt to existing logistics
I love this gun. I've heard it's roller delayed which is really really cool. I wish though that it was actually a bullpup lmg. The stock looks nice but I think you could push the grip forward, and then put a large butt pad on the back. More comfortable butt pad, smaller package to hold, etc.

The 240 was great i carried that 25lber with 80lbs of ammo for the longest time. This sucker is a force multiplier!! Designated marksman as well as support and heavy gunner. This makes sense!!!
My father before he passed aways told me something that made me change my mind about firing. In the army,they actually show/tell you to fire in semi-auto to preserve ammo and to be more precise. Nice gun,to be kibda likw an lmg/sniper is awesome. We need more hybrids.

This looks really awesome! I thinks it’s genius how there are fewer parts, an easier barrel swap procedure, select fire, and awesome ballistics. However I do have a concern regarding the sliding feed tray. I was never in the service, but isn’t there a high chance that the slots for the feed tray to slide on could get bunked up and jam when trying to install a new ammo belt

1600 meters equals 1760 yards 1 mile effective range.
With the SIG MG338 using the same round, point target accuracy was 1800 meters, area target further than that.

The 240 was great i carried that 25lber with 80lbs of ammo for the longest time. This sucker is a force multiplier!! Designated marksman as well as support and heavy gunner. This makes sense!!!

My father before he passed aways told me something that made me change my mind about firing. In the army,they actually show/tell you to fire in semi-auto to preserve ammo and to be more precise. Nice gun,to be kibda likw an lmg/sniper is awesome. We need more hybrids.

Man wish we had this platform during GWOT. LOVE the 249 for a suppressive fire system, and the 240 is a great medium machine-gun, but this…. This is so modular and has multiple capabilities. Our gunners in Batt would have been lethal.💪🏼💪🏼RLTW!

The feed tray is the coolest and most innovative feature in my opinion.
This looks really awesome! I thinks it’s genius how there are fewer parts, an easier barrel swap procedure, select fire, and awesome ballistics. However I do have a concern regarding the sliding feed tray. I was never in the service, but isn’t there a high chance that the slots for the feed tray to slide on could get bunked up and jam when trying to install a new ammo belt

Very cool. Less weight is always good. I remember switching to the 240B from the M60 when I was with 2nd ID in Korea and was not happy with how much more the 240 weighed.
The front end of the muzzle reminds me of the WWII Japanese Woodpecker, the Type 92 HMG.
