My brother and I changed the AC-Alternator belt in a 2004 Highlander V6 today thanks to your video. Thanks for the straight talk and efficient editing.
I own a 2004 Highlander 2.4L and had my water pump replaced today for $599.90. While the dealership was making the repair, they told me my V-ribbed belt needed replacing. I told them NO, I'll wait later to do that (real reason was to keep the cost under $600, boy, did they ever accomplish that!). After I drove off, I noticed the engine was vibrating like crazy and called them back. They told me the belt may need to re-adjust itself after a few miles. I was actually going to have them do the belt job until I told a good friend and he suggested to watch a RUclips video. I typed in basically your title above. Now, I'm getting ready to do that job by myself and save the $266.46 they would charge to do so. My only concern is that I may break that tensioning bolt or strip it as @micmike did. I'm sure if I get all the tools you mentioned at the start of the video, I'll do fine. Hope the costs of those tools are under three hundred bucks. Thanks for making this - it will save me money as will all others who have been blessed with this great demonstration video!
I used a 12 point socket with a pipe too, and it STRIPPED the aluminum nut on the tensioner, that sucks huge. AND, that's why people would like to meet the engineer who designs these stupid automotive features and share with them the frustration they feel
+Otto Rocket Thanks for watching! If you fast-forward to 4:05 you will see that this is the only drive belt for this particular model. It will connect to the alternator and A/C. Some vehicles are different, so you will want to confirm that before ordering. 1aauto.com
Hi i replaced my alternator, and wanted to replace belt, but it does not fit!!, i installed old one and went in like in your video. Any sugestions?? Thanks.
Hi, thanks for the reply i have taken it back to the auto parts and they measured it and suposed to be the one i need. Is there any way that i can strech the belt? Thanks.
@@elchinguengenchon Just slip on the pulley last don’t do the alternator like the show here , you will never get it on... this way you just push it up on.
Thanks for the video but one note if someone dont know how to open the hood they dont need to learn how to replace the belt, just saying no need to waste time on teaching people how to open the hood.
You're not describing how to locate the tensioner pulley, how or where to locate the bolt you're asking me to turn or what the belt system even looks like from the inside. This video is pretty worthless as a result.

Was your v6 3.0 the same as this 2.4 engine?

it looks like this is the same layout for 2000-2005 toyota camry drive belt replacement?
Thank you for all your useful videos! Saves us a ton!
Can you show this done from up top?
How much does this cost ? The belt job in general ! And any another belt job on a 2006 Highlander
This is a great video. Thanks for your efforts. Could you please do a similar one for a 2005 Toyota Sienna XLE Limited FWD? Thanks!
+Shah Saud Alam We will definitely be making a video in the future!
Is there a different belt that’s connected to the alternator and AC?

+Hector Diaz I would double check the belt to make sure it's the correct length. Putting on a new belt should be very snug.

Go get the right belt??? Jfc... it's not rocket science 😑

nice new shiny alternator too.
So I broke the tab off of the tensioner. What do I do now????
What about a v6 cant find a video on how to losen the belt
What is the measurement of the belt
If anyone is viewing this and you weren't already aware of how to pop the hood then you probably shouldn't be doing this job
Thanks for the video but one note if someone dont know how to open the hood they dont need to learn how to replace the belt, just saying no need to waste time on teaching people how to open the hood.
There’s no tensioner on a 2005 Highlander 3.3L and the alternator loosens the the wrong way 🥵
This is not the same as te highlander 2001,
