So basically the met gala is the opening of the costume exhibit at the Metropolitan museum of art in NYC. So the theme of what people wear is the theme of the exhibit and most completely failed this year.

The met gala has a theme every year and the celebrities are suppose to match the theme with their clothes. Its not always easy to tell how each outfit matches that theme. This year the theme was "America" so that may help you figure out what people are wearing. Like those outfits were probably disco ball and c3po inspired outfits. And what's his name with Rihanna had a quilt probably inspired by the quilts slaves made for the underground railroad. Rihanna's outfit is inspired by hoodies since Black people keep being discriminated on for wearing them. There was an actor, Jeremy Pope, that wore an outfit inspired by slave attire and picking cotton.
