In the book Dante’s inferno, one of the souls he runs into while he’s visiting hell was a famous pope. What’s interesting about this is that Dante while talking with this popes soul, he remembers that the pope is actually still alive on the earth and so he is confuse how he could be speaking with the pope soul while visiting hell. There are historical references to people, kings, philosophers, antagonists, politicians ancients, demigods, and stuff that were hot topics of study and discussion in the authors day that if familiar to the reader it will make the story that much more interesting. But there concepts of design of hell and and each levels purpose and function can keep one’s interest alone. It’s written in an older way of presenting English speaking than our modern day so some may find it difficult to follow.
