It is so awesome to watch you cast with this spey rod! Do you practice much on land or mostly in the water? It’s seems you would need the feel of the water (water resistance) for the full motion of the cast. Ultimately, do you forget about fishing for awhile so you can practice your technique and distance, or do you fish your line thats out?

"To look good in front of thousands, you have to outwork thousands in front of nobody". It's 40-50 days a year of practice by the river in my case. Practicing ... not fishing. Recording myself casting and analyzing. Trying new things and trying to push further - not distance-wise but technique-wise. In spey casting it only makes sense to practice in the river. Stillwater won't do the job - you need current to help you lift your rig off the water.

@@janusz.panicz Thanks so much for getting back! I fully understand your commitment to excellence. I’m a typical fly fisherman in the states and fish so e really nice waters. Always been a very good athlete at many things but certainly not exceptionally great at any one thing! You have just inspired me however, to get the camera out and do some recording for regular fly casting for a better flight and landing and there are many videos to keep up with that! However, I will always keep an eye on your videos as roll casting techniques in tight spots is imperative! Thanks again for answering my question! i’m a subscriber now!

That "Rock Star" guitarist stance at the end, again. I think it is becoming your signature stance with the long rod, Janusz. I think it is going to be a classic statement for *Cool* among the knowledgeable long rod aficionados.

Cheers Steven. I've never perceived my stance as "Rock Star" guitarist stance. Believe me that stance plus body rotation and short stroke are dynamite for forward cast. I have to admit though that for the last year or two I've extended my casting stroke to eradicate tailing loop tendency. So if you examine my recent videos there is noticeable difference in rod stopping position at the end of the forward cast. I used to stop at 10:30 while recently I've tended to stop at 10 o'clock.

@@janusz.panicz I have a high-end BenQ gaming monitor and I am unable to see the line when in the forward cast, a predicament widely known in fly casting videos. What I do see is your posture and body movement and I wish my posture was as erect and agile as yours, as you make it look so comfortable and very stylish. And the final stance, not an exaggeration, not a pose, yet beyond the common; style that can be easily seen, and with a confidence that can be sensed. IMHO, you certainly are the King of Cool with your long rod, a level reached with a great deal of practice and cool confidence, if my reading of you is correct. Your stroke is that which I wish to emulate, knowing I will never get there at my age, but working towards it anyway. I can dream. Thanks, and may Peace be with You, Janusz.

I am not skilled enough, to make under-hand casts with my fly-rod and I rarely catch fish. I do pay for the fishing licenses though :) I hate to hook a Pike, they are repulsive to me. The French people are said to love them as food :) I do not. Of cource I release them as unhurt as possible, unhooking them with a surgical forceps. They are scaly, smelling and ugly. The only way to make food of them, is to scale them, take out the major bones, mince them and make fish-balls out of them, now one can sort out the small bones after boiling them. This is not my way of preparing good food from fish.

PS. Underhand casting is overrated 😉
