Did any of you vets know my husband James Robert Artis, a Vietnam vet from Philadelphia, Pa. He passed from Covid in January 2021. He came back so emotionally scared from the trauma. Never walked beside, always in front. I can’t count the times he told me to be quiet walking through woods. Someone recently scoffed at me saying “nobody did 5 tours”. He had no family he knew of and told me he was viewed as “expendable”, along with many others like him who had similar backgrounds. Jim’s last battle was 30 days with Covid. He fought like the warrior he was, and only died because our health care system in the end still failed him. Broken-hearted 💔
Mary, thank you for watching my interview with Carl. He is an extraordinary man!! I hope you are subscribed. God bless you!! WEBSITE: larrycappetto.com
My dad was in Vietnam from Feb of 67 to Feb of 68. He cries when he tells me about events from his time in country. People wait all their lives to meet their hero, I was raised my mine!
I was 17 years old when I got to Vietnam-1966 through 1969 (My mom had to sign a waiver for me), I grew up fast and learned a lot, good and bad. (I am now 73 and still learning). I was stationed on the USS Providence and also stationed in Country at a place called "Monkey Mountain" close to DaNang,. I spent 3 tours of duty in and around Vietnam. 3 of my high school friends were killed in Vietnam, I was spared. I participated in the TET Offensive in Feb 1968, that was bad. Somewhere along the way I was exposed to Agent Orange (Nasty Stuff) I am now on disability for the effects of agent orange. When I was discharged and came home to the States we arrived in San Francisco, and there were a lot of protesters spitting on us and throwing rocks and eggs and called us baby killers. That was our welcome home. I tell you this to say to you, that whatever your position is or was on the Vietnam war, it was not the veteran who got us into the war, most of us went because we were patriots and loved our country. Blame the politicians, yes, but not the veteran. To all Vietnam Vets out there, you are not forgotten. As a previous combat Vet myself, I salute you my friend.
Carl Griggs' interview was, without a doubt, the best I've ever listened to. God Bless you and all the soldiers who laid their live on the line. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. July 4, 2022.
My late oldest brother served in Vietnam from 1966-1968, God bless all the soldiers that served in Vietnam very nasty war over 58,000 souls lost may their souls rest in peace.
My dad was a Vietnam vet x'2..One day we were at Wal-Mart an A lady came up to him an Thanked him for his service an called a Hero. The only thing he said was Im no hero I did what I did for my Brothers that fell. They are the Hero's I'm a survivor..That has stuck with for ever..Men like them are dying off..Stop an listen to thier stories cause one day they might not be there...Thank You Sir for your service..
On March 2018 my father went to be with his fallen brothers an family..He was buried with full honors..I was rummaging threw some of his old pics an stuff an came across A Silver Star an Then a Bronze Star an 2 Purple Hearts...I came across a letter from The Commander an Chief about what the Silver Star was for an The Purple Heart it was addressed to my Grandparents..My father was in the 9th Division from 66-69..He never spoke of what he had done there or what had happened..He was tough old school type that never showed emotions..As I finished going threw the stuff, there was another letter from The Commander An Chief bout the Bronze Star an Purple heart The actions that took placed was a eye opener why my father was the way he was..They were under attack by A Sapper Unit an he was shot while aiding to his fallen brothers while mortar round were popping off..what ever my did for his Country had people from Vietnam show up to say GoodBye...They were Kit Carson or something like that..
I was born in 1963, the veterans of Vietnam will always have a special place in my heart. What they endured and the mood of the Country when they came home was a tragedy. Thank you for your gallant service Carl.
I don’t mean to sound rude either, but you do sound rude…Seemed like he luckily just caught Carl unexpectedly n was able to get what he could from him wherever it was they were. Some kind of convention about ww2 of sorts from what I heard. There’s only so much time in a day n he had another guy to interview as well. Larry does a lot of good work n has a lot of love for veterans, going above n beyond to get these stories recorded. I’d bet he probably absolutely hated having to say that n stop the interview like that way more than y’all criticizing him for it. You weren’t even there, if you were, you could have recorded the rest of his story yourself n uploaded it on RUclips… But you weren’t…
This man ‘s story made me cry . I’m 59 . I could feel it coming from him . I’m a born again Christian also . May the lord go with you . I ask the lord to bring you some peace . You most definitely did your part !
My grandfather did 3 tours over there. He was with the 101st, the 25th ID and the 173rd Airborne Westmorland's Fire Brigade. He doesn't talk about his experience but hes blind in his left eye and has a metal plate in his head. I myself Years later would join amd end up serving with all 3 divisions along the way during my 9 year stint in the army,,,, I was with the 173rd 2/503 in Afghanistan 07-09. I'm most proud having served with the Herd!!
Thank you Larry for watching my interview with Carl Griggs and sharing it with your Father. Tell him I said, "WELCOME HOME!!" "Brother to Brother, in life and in death!!" God bless you!! larrycappetto.com
I flew Hueys in III CTZ 68-69 with an assault helicopter company out of Bien Hoa.. I knew that AO very well- Parrot's Beak, An Loc, Tay Ninh (Nui Ba Den), Song Be.. .. I always volunteered to fly for 5th SF on my DCS mission days.. I felt like they were getting things done over there.. What he said is true.. Everyone who goes to war returns home wounded, one way or another.. I was 19 when I arrived in country and when I got home, I felt very old.. I couldn't relate to my old high school friends- they seemed like children..
Welcome home sir and thank you for your service.. I did a combat tour Desert shield/storm.. we flew home in a commercial airplane too, I didn't let anyone stateside know I was on the freedom bird.. flew into Milwaukee in my DCU's, a Vietnam veteran cab driver drove me all the way home.. free fare.. he didn't want me to feel like he did when he came back home.. I understand all too well the love and passion people have when our brothers and sisters come back from a combat theater..
All my life, God has broken my heart for the soldiers of our country...the things they endured and suffered so I can stand here as a 65 year old American woman...I am so grateful to EVERY SINGLE ONE...the words thank you so very much doesn't ever seem to be enough for these precious men. Their names are carved on the palm of the hand of God Almighty, for sure...I pray for them and try to learn all I can the story of how freedom isn't free...they bought the USA for us with their blood...may God's BEST BLESSINGS always rest upon the American veterans, in Jesus' name...Amen.❤❤❤❤

Love your story mate. I'm a born again Christian brother and ex Aussie grunt Vietnam '71-72. Just turned 19 prior to embarkation. When going on ops we had 1 day Australian ration pack(crap) and 4 days US C ration. We just loved the yank rations. I'll meet you some day mate.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart Mr. Griggs, for your service. The Vietnam war was a political war. It was about politicians and corporate greed. The politicians and corporations who would benefit from this war didn’t give a damn about how many young lives were taken from us or how many families were destroyed because they sent young men and women into the conflict. Was the goal worth it? Stopping communism from overtaking a country that had zero effect on us? Was the 58,000+ US casualties worth it? Was the millions of Vietnamese who lost their lives worth it? Not to mention all the wounded and veterans whose lives were taken away struggling with addiction, suicide and PTSD? It appears that Vietnam isn’t doing too bad today considering they were fighting in war for over 20 years. God Bless men like Duane Griggs that answered the call even if the motives of the war were questionable at best.
Carl thank you for your story and service. I volunteered for Vietnam in 1970 was not taken because folks were coming back and I was not needed I was told. At that time my Grand Parents were in Viet Nam as Missionaries from Christian Missionary Alliance My mom grew up there with her 4 brothers. All were in Japanese prison camp for 4 years. Dad was a WW2 Navy CPO in PBYs in the Pacific. Mom and Dad suffered from war I suffered from their struggles. God Bless you and yours. I will pray for you as a brother in Christ.

Fantastic. Larry, great job. Myself, 6 years, Vietnam era vet, entirely non combat, and compared to these vets, I ain't dog shit. Survivor's guilt. I actually volunteered, but only got to NKP Thailand in 73, no hostilities, not a combat zone. These men are giants, real patriots.
I was eligible for the draft during the tail end of Vietnam. I was relieved to be never drafted, but I am in awe of those who did go and serve. Thank you Veterans.
God bless Carl Duane Griggs and I thank him for his service and sacrifices. My older brothers were sent to Vietnam when I was a child. Some went to Cambodia too. As a young girl I lived with low-level anxiety every single day worrying and waiting for them to return home. Vietnam as a horrible war. I am so greatfull for our heroes.
My grandfather was a Green beret and he did 4 tours in Vietnam... He passed before I could ever talk to him about it...From what my mother says he would NEVER talk about it,... I really wish I could talk to some of these men to see if they knew him... It's awesome to hear some of the things my grandfather went through for 4-5 years... HERO His name was Richard Cunliffe He was at An Lac and Bu prang SF camps (I only know that because I have his veteran lighter) he mentions an lac in this video as a bad place and my grandfather was there smh crazy
Larry we thank you for bringing these interviews to us. You are right, freedom is not free🇺🇸 We must never let America forget Vietnam. Welcome home Carl, thank you for your service.
God bless you Sheila. I thank God for all the stories I have recorded the past 20 years across North America. Please help me to share them. This is a very strategic time in our history. With every page of history lost, these stories become more precious and valuable!!
My uncle was one of the very first special forces soldiers. He was in Laos in 1961 and worked some for the CIA.He retired in 1963.He started out slugging against the Germans in Italy, including the po valley battle. After WW2 he became a airborne soldier and was in quite a few different airborne divisions. He did 2 combat jumps in Korea, won a silver star, bronze star with V,purple heart and many, many other awards. He retired E-8 master Sargent with the first special forces group. His name is James Claude stover. He had a giant gorilla wearing army greens, and wearing a helmet, smoking a cigar, tattooed on his chest. He was quite the character indeed. Thanks for the nice video.

My dad would never talk about Vietnam but he served in the Navy on three carriers two tours and got out in 1969 but he did served in National Guard. Decided to reenlist in the Navy. He retired from the Navy. My grandpa served in US Air Corps from 1940 through 1945 then transferred to National Guard which was activated during Korea War. Both of them has never talked to anyone about their service. Both of them are a hero to me because they’re what being an American is all about. They put on their uniforms and do what they have to do, with honors. I respect each and everyone of the veterans who served. Thank you all.
I have seen a lot of videos from US veterans but this is the best ever. What an amazing man and a tribute to the men he served with and our country. No one will ever know all that this man went through. Thank you for sharing this video and I thank Mr. Griggs for his story and his sacrifice to our country.
My gratitude to you brother for all that you've done for our country. I lost 6 dear buddies in Viet Nam whose names are engraved on the Wall in Washington. I shed a few tears standing in a 26 degree snowstorm taking in the site of that beautiful display & praying for each of those brave young men. Best regards!
Another Great Hero in Sgt. Griggs . Thank you Sir for Your Service 1st and Foremost!! And also Sharing a Very Personal time in Your Life. For what you did and Saw in your time of Service at Such a Very Young age. Thank you from the Bottom of my heart.. Bless those who Brought this Telling Story Of This Very Brave Hero !!!!
Another great story. These guys are legends each and every one of them. I can imagine a lot of them don’t want to speak about their experiences over there but the ones who do you can almost see a massive weight lifted off their shoulders while they are telling their stories. God bless all of those men and women who fought and continue to fight everyday for FREEDOM 🇺🇸
Carl I have a very dear friend that was a Tank Driver in Vietnam Australian C Company , Centurian Tank named Sweet Fanny . I have so much respect for you men that were only boys at that time.
Thank you, I grew up watching my cousins and elders going, some came home ,some did not ,those who returned were never the same .2 went sideways from the battle in their minds afterwards. God bless .
That was a Great insight, the awful truth. I’m 62 years old from Hialeah Florida ( Miami), I was a kid when people were coming home. I never saw anyone say anything negative about the war veterans. God Bless, Carl.

Carl's details of what he did with the 5th group in vietnam was very informative. I was in the 7th group stationed at Fort Bragg 1967-1970. Worked, trained with many green berets at Bragg. Thanks Carl for your bravery and service to our country.

This guy has some serious guts. Have to be so thankful to guys like this who put it on the line and still take the time to share it for the next generation.
Great interview Larry… You too Carl, thanks for telling us your story man. Carl has a way of telling his story that’s really riveting… One of those guys that could talk forever n you can never really get enough of listening to him… Larry, If you could ever get him back to go a bit deeper into what some of his missions were on a more detailed level, that would be awesome! Really like him a lot! God bless the both of you…
Thank you for your service and “WELCOME HOME”! It’s about time out Vietnam Vets received our appreciation for their sacrifice, I”ll probably never meet this person, BUT, I”ll Never forget you!!
To Larry Cappetto, thank you for all your work in helping to document their stories for our benefit. My brother was there in 68-69. So to know you guys is to love you. Im very thankful to each of you. When i see anyone of you im reminded of my brother. Though i lost him here to a motorcycle accident in 1977 his memory is strong in me. Take care guys and enjoy yourselves! ❤
What stood out for me in his journey and service was his description of returning home. What that was like for him when he said "I was standing on American soil." It's unmistakable, the emotions in his voice, all at the same time. He was relieved, grateful, proud of his service, happy to be home, and mostly I think, he was proud of his country, and recognized just how special it is to live in America, and be an American. God bless you sir!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience. God bless you and all the veterans of America. And all veterans of all conflicts who truly know what war is about. Again God bless you and your family and friends and supporters. Peace ☮️ Robert
Thank you! I’m a Cold War veteran from the 101st Airborne and grew up during Vietnam. These guys were my hero’s. Went in in 1984 and actually went to Panama for jungle warfare school after basic, infantry, and airborne schools. A lot of our older Sgts were Vietnam veterans. I had uncle that fought in Vietnam and grandfather and great uncles that fought the Germans in WW2. One never came back, like Mr Griggs said, he hadn’t had a chance to marry or have kids. I sent for my grandfathers medals, he was in the fight leading up o and after the bridge at Remagen, and received his Bronze Star. No one in the family knew he’d received the Bronze Star and I don’t think he knew either. We got what few items he had left (side pin airborne wings, the duck lapel pin was about it).

We all had a job. Some worse than others. Everybody was scared and alert. We did what we had to. Green Berets were especially bad ass. Welcome home brother.

Larry never ceases to amaze me listening to his story. I wasnt old enough to join but remember troops coming into the hotel in Thiland for R@R and had no idea there was a war going on. My dad worked for the Dept of State so he was a Diplomat. . My family and i were on vacation traveling to Pakistan and Afghanistan. I wrote here before but just wanted to share my experences. As a young girl I lived with low-level anxiety every single day worrying and waiting for them to return home. Vietnam as a horrible war. I am so greatfull for our heroes.
Carl Griggs has a great mind and extremely well spoken, not to mention the utmost courage and heart. Incredible story. Welcome home, Sir!
What a remarkable story Larry, in my eyes Carl is a true Hero as they all are. God bless them .THANKS!!
Joe, many thanks for your kind words.
My Daddy did 3 tours...went by boat each time! God Bless you all!

HERO
His name was Richard Cunliffe
He was at An Lac and Bu prang SF camps (I only know that because I have his veteran lighter) he mentions an lac in this video as a bad place and my grandfather was there smh crazy
As A US.ARMY Inf. retired Solider, I was to say thank you for preserving this history. And thank God he knows Jesus.

God bless you Sheila. I thank God for all the stories I have recorded the past 20 years across North America. Please help me to share them. This is a very strategic time in our history. With every page of history lost, these stories become more precious and valuable!!
As a combat veteran myself, I can relate wholeheartedly to everything this man went through and emotions expressed, everything. It's tough!!

Great man, could listen to him all day.
A Born Again Christian! Thank You, Mr. Griggs. And you Mr. Cappetto. Such care for this man. Well Done!
Thank you again Bill. Another heartfelt comment.
Jeezes I freaking love this guy! Thank you for your service Carl! One of the best interviews I've ever seen
Carl’s speech and mannerisms reminds me of my Uncle Tommy, also SF in ‘65. Almost a twin!
Hey Carl,....Welcome Home! Lee Burkins, MACV-SOG, CCC, 1969-'70.

Larry, If you could ever get him back to go a bit deeper into what some of his missions were on a more detailed level, that would be awesome! Really like him a lot! God bless the both of you…

@@VoicesofHistory yes I am, these guys are my brothers as well as my brother was! They're his brothers too!!
My dad is gone now..he never talked about his time there...but I know he lived with his buddies everyday of his life
Thank you
What stood out for me in his journey and service was his description of returning home.
God bless you sir, thank you for your service and sacrifice
This guy explains things very well. Thanks for your service
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience. God bless you and all the veterans of America.
And all veterans of all conflicts who truly know what war is about.
Again God bless you and your family and friends and supporters.
Peace ☮️
