  • I'm beginning to think that happiness isn't something you ever get, merely something you look forward to. Kind of like tomorrow!
    That's not to say it's depressing. Just... make sure you make the most of the journey. If I had just started out on my RUclips journey, this is what I'd say to me. That is, the me that's here now, talking to the one who had just started. Wow, it's so confusing to contemplate multiple me's!

    You're probably the only person who makes these honest, meaningful videos.
    Thank you for that, especially since we know you don't get paid enough for this.
    Also, I love the music, I myself make music and therefore appreciate it a lot. It gives your videos a whole different mood, and something even _more_ unique

    I....... think a big part of the problem with what you're explaining comes from the idea that you're at the "end" of your journey. What?! Finding success doesn't mean you're finished nor are done finding "highlights along the way."
    You're at a point of sustainability, a point of being well-known, but there should always be new goals around the corner to attack.

    Okay, here's a rant: I'm experiencing something in my life now. I got all the spare time in the world, yet I can't help but to feel like I'm wasting my time. It's nice to think that I can finally have a long break. But when I do, like right now I'm just watching RUclips, it feels like I should be doing work. It's alarming and irritating because for a long time now, I've been desperately wanting a break. One part of me says that I want to rest, but that doesn't make me more happy. In fact, despite how weird it sounds, I really feel more stressed out now as I'm not being productive. Perhaps someone else feel this way, I would be interested to hear.

      Pancakesandsyrup123 i feel you, i started high difficulty class a year ago, and since then i spent a lot of time on youtube, most of the time it just doesn't feel right, i'm not learning, i'm not playing, and i'm also not enjoying it, it feels like a complete waste of time except when there is a video like this one which comes by, but it's rare, too rare, i might give a go to restraining my youtube use, i will probably feel better about my time and, youtube might become a treat again.

      I get you, I just finished my exams recently and am just anxiously awaiting the results to come through to know whether or not I'm getting into university. I sit and watch youtube/play games/go out with friends but the entire time I feel as though I could be doing something like preparing for exams. But there isn't anything to study for yet.
      One thing I'd recommend. Make your own routine. Start working out or learn the guitar or something and set yourself times each day where you're going to do it. Having a set routine is great.

    • @damiencarle8344
      @damiencarle8344 6 лет назад +15

      You could always try to do something, like get some chores done, build something you want, something that you will enjoy but still feel like work. As a comment here said "There is no fun without boredom."

    • @dagon4803
      @dagon4803 6 лет назад +7

      Pancakesandsyrup123 I also feel this way, except there are productive things I can actually do. I'm just too stubborn and lazy to do them. It also doesn't help that I'm easily distracted, and have the attention span of a 5 year old. I should also add that if you're trying to abstain from certain website there’s a free program called Cold Turkey that can block them for any period of time.

    • @JHG_1
      @JHG_1 6 лет назад +7

      Rico Diggs Yeah I have just finished my exams as well, it feels strange, surreal if you will. And I keep having to tell myself that's it's over and that I don't have to do it again, but it's like there's a hole inside of me, that kinda needed that boredom, I also too awaited the break but now feel that way. Instead of now spending this time productively, I watch RUclips more than usual and instead of playing the many good games that I own, like I could be playing, rust or csgo. Yet I'm at this point where I keep playing clicker games, in my mind I know it's a waste of time, but I can't seem to stop wanting to do it. I don't know what to do with myself.

    This is the most wholesome video I've watched in a while. I don't know if it was the dogs playing, the beautiful scenery or Philips monologue, but it just felt right.
    I think all of us "need to start doing the things in life that you don't enjoy in order to take more pleasure from the rest of it" Like getting up earlier in the weekends, spending less time in front of the computer, being more social. If anything insperation will change my habits tomorrow, its definitely this video.

    Kinda sounds similar to my profession being a self employed plumber, only, I always feel great, work doesnt feel like work, I love doing what I'm doing as its challenging and stressful enough to not be boring or keep me from getting stale of my work, I'm making people happy as I'm fixing things and getting paid for it. I don't EVER think I could go back to regular 9/5 working at a single place of work. No, never.

    Thank you for making this video philip. I was compiling an edit while watching this video. I have been watching your CS:GO videos even though I rarely play CS:GO. It's the calming aroma of your voice and the fact that I am pulled by genuine youtubers. The outlooks you have made in this video really hit home. I have just quit my job after tasting a bitter experience with my team leader. I had wanted to be a youtuber for a long while. First, I was unable to do it because I didn't have the equipment. I bought a good enough mic for recording, but I told to myself that my current internet speed isn't fast enough for video uploads and video asset downloads. Me and my dad took a large step and changed our internet provider and had the speed I wanted. I then jumped to making videos, but with the reach I have both on social media and here on youtube, my videos were only getting a couple of views. I thought of making a video where I include my voice, but was too scared due to English being my second language and feared being mocked at.
    At the end of the day, I realized that I was making excuses. What you said really opened my mind. I also thought that being a RUclipsr is rainbows and butterflies, due to being able to do it at the comfort of your home, anytime you want. But the staleness. The lack of urgency, and especially the ones where you go and try and play a game with that nagging feeling behind your mind. I have a growing library on my steam with nothing to play with. The weekend anticipation that you feel every end of the week. Every point you stated reached inside my soul.
    I am that typical average joe. I never had a dream in my life. I'm not sad about it, it just kinda worries me that I do not have one.
    I hope I can be an ounce as good as you being a RUclipsr, or a person as a whole. I never thought the day would come that I would write an essay to a RUclips comment section. Though this kinds of video you make may be a niche, please don't stop making them, as they may be a very dear video to a selected few.

    I've been watching through some of these older videos, and with this whole corona thing going on I and many others have had time to reflect. I have all the time in the word, yet I always feel like I'm missing something or there's something better I could be doing. When I came back to this video, I felt inspired to write a comment. Ironic how I just said there's something better I could be doing, but that's besides the point. Although things feel bad and it's really easy to get absorbed in the negativity, there's still a bit of light that shines through in the next day. I've also come to respect the little things, such as being able to walk to the market without getting looks. No matter how significant something may be, it can brighten my day. It's like a workout; it might hurt in the process but afterwards you feel great.
    Enjoy Yourself

    To have good days you need to experience bad days. Contrast is important, it's why you suddenly find everything amusing and interesting when you have to study for an exam. You're in a situation you don't want to be in, and suddenly appreciate the little things you never thought of before.
    If you live in constant bliss, you don't know what bliss is like. It becomes mundane and repetitive. Perfect balance is key.

    The moment of realizing you‘ve accomplished exactly what you set out to is a weird one. I completely relate to your feelings when revisiting an old spot. I recently went back home after years of not visiting and the biggest emotion that bubbled up what that of the anxiety that I had felt when I didn't know how to achieve some of my dreams. I knew I wanted to be a software developer but I didn’t know if it would pan out. I had so many worries back then, was I smart enough, was I talented enough, and just fears of failing.
    All of the anticipation, long nights working, and uncertainty that went into getting to where I am now is what I look back on fondly. Now that I work as a software developer, in a field I always admired no less, I feel only a small sense of accomplishment. I have a feeling I will look back on this moment, years from now, with a feeling of fondness. For the time being though, it just feels like another day.
    Your comment on doing mundane tasks such as visiting the post office resonated with me. I truly thought that accomplishing what I set out to would make the mundaneness fade away. Of course this didn’t happen though. Part of I think is the ever looming future that awaits, it makes the present always seem inadequate. It feels like I could always be doing more, tackling bigger issues, and pushing myself even harder.
    These feelings recently cumulated into wanting to start another career while I continue to work in software, in medicine this time. It’s interesting to me because I feel the exact same way that I did when I was just starting out in software. It’s a sense of unknown, uncertainty, and a lot of doubt. I know that I can do what I set out to, I’ve already proved to myself that I can do what I sent my mind to. I guess what I worry about more than anything is that I will feel the same way I do now after I complete school, a small sense of accomplishment but a longing for bigger and greater heights.
    You have a great way of summarizing a lot of the feelings that I also have, feelings that I think a lot of people have. The path of life and success is strange, we never seem to know where life will take us. Ultimately I think at least one key to happiness is to simply enjoy the journey, both the good and bad times.

    Pleasure and suffering are two sides of the same coin. One can not exist without the other. That is what is meant by the phrase, "life is suffering". It's not a defeatist or depressed statement, it's a realization that the desire to have nothing but pleasure all the time is foolish. Ironically, the only way to be truly happy in life is to accept suffering as part of life. Focus on the things you can control, and build the best possible version of yourself living the best possible life that you can.

    A lot of people say being a youtuber is easy, but when I think about it, it seems a bit like torture. Doing the things you love every day of your life, until a point where you stop enjoying it. I’ve just finished my exams and for some reason, I don’t feel happy like I thought i would

    The fact that you can have 3 channels and have them all somehow blend but be so different at the same time amazes me. You are truly an artist of our generation.

    Phillip, you always help me clear my head. If we ever got the chance, I'd love to sit down and have a chat over freshly brewed coffee.

    I had to rewatch it more than once at 2:08 because i kept looking for people's reactions and couldn't pay attention to Philip's words

    Waow it actually a scary thought. Every day being a weekend day. You don't "have" to anything, but you probably should, and it is quite though to drive yourself to do anything at all, let alone be "productive". Whichever way you defined what that word means to you.

      4:10 There are some errors in this demo. That water isn't very convincing, could use some HDR and ray tracing.

    I found this video really inspiring for an odd reason, in how sometimes getting to your goals isn't exactly what you wanted afterward. A bit counter intuitive isn't it?

    Kliksphilip is probably my favourite of the 3 Kliksphilip channels, with 2 a close second (not very interested in CS:GO, so 3 isn't my thing). I really enjoy the introspective videos
