Great video, but just having gone through first 9 months of a new tank and adding montipora, I think it’s very important to stress the importance of keep Phosphate and Nitrate levels in check. I’ve caused various problems due to these levels being too high/low.
I started a tank about 2 months ago. Everything is doing well, except my cyphastrea died rather quickly. I'm not sure why, but it always had a bit of skeleton showing in the middle of it.
Alright, let me give my thoughts to this in the order of how you showed them. 6. Zoas -Love my Rastas. Also love my Stargazer Zoas. 5. Scolys - No scoly, sadly. 4.Acans/Micromussa Lords - Have three, all fat and pretty. One is the oldest coral in my tank. 3. Monti Caps - Love Monti Caps, might buy another one soon, like a Flower Petal. Or another Starburst, as my current one has not been doing so well since I moved everything out of the leaky tank to the current 29 gallon. I am giving it time though, as only half appeared to die out, so I am hoping the other half lives as it was getting nice with a ton of plates previous to the move. 2. Cyphastrea - Don't have one yet. 1. Acros - Have two, Pink Passion and Palleta Tricolor. Might move the Tricolor to a new spot, or just get another Acro. lol. Also no shout out to Duncans or Euphyllias? Or Mushrooms??
I'm starting my first tank 60x40x40cm. Watching this would you recommend I light that with a couple of Orphek bars or a kessil? the Evergrow seems like it would be to big. As you say I would rather spend less on the light and more on corals so the most budget friendly option that will give good pop and growth would be good.
You can get a 40x20cm Evergrow for that tank. Kessil are fantastic but not cheap and Orphek bars don't ramp up and down so they're better as a supplemental light, rather than your only light. If you get the Evergrows, it won't be the limiting factor in keeping corals.
@@ReefDork thanks I’m a relative newb, so not sure I want to dose yet but would like a salt with relative decent KH and calcium I’m tempted by Instant Ocean tbh
I get your idea and facination of these corals and understand why you always one to have speciments of them in your tanks. But isn't the idea of having the same types of corals a bit meh?
That's a fair point - progression and change is what keeps the hobby interesting. This video is really just supposed to give ideas as to what corals people might want to consider, based on what I think are the most interesting corals 🙂
Zoa Gardens/Zoa Rocks are honestly what got me started in the hobby
Thank you Alex. Time and time again, you easily show us, How great an ambassador you are for The Saltwater hobby.
🙏
I have tried zoes with gsp with no luck but my mushrooms and others corals are doing well
great video, high quality and excellent images of explanations. Well Done!!
Great video as usual
A reallt good video, thats so spot on in every way!
So informative, taverymuchlike! VBW x

Looks like I'm 5 for 5 😉
Great video.
Love the content

Ooh, I hate mushies 😬
That was an abrupt ending! Lol
🤣 I'm trying to cut out unnecessary parts of my videos so playing around with the format.
@@ReefDork Not a problem.
Yr content is top draw.
Keep up the good work!
@@ReefDork some of us have attention spans :)
@@ReefDork I think he's referencing the way the sound is cut off early at 4:35.
What's the name of that acro at 4:12? It's amazing!
Acropora valida 👌
@@ReefDork Thanks! Have you given Acro Power a try yet? If not, you should.
@@tippin.turtle I think I did years ago, but definitely not recently. Will check it out 👍
Great advice! Can’t argue with this! Nailed it in the head as they say.
@reefdork Is that live camera of your tank on your computer screen? can you share what camera and setup you are using please?
I don't have a live camera setup I'm afraid...
I only have acros in my 2 gallon. Number 1 was the best

@@ReefDork awsome, thanks dude
Merci pour ta vidéo !!! 👍👍👍
Zoas are nice but too invasive. Good starting coral though. Good list.
What about the corals that my freshwater aquarium can have???
You can't have any coral in a freshwater aquarium
I think that he was joking
hahagager The skeletal remains of the failures of keeping Coral is what can go there
Which one of these 6 corals would be safe in a tank with a Chocolate Chip Starfish?
Don't know I'm afraid - I'd be too scared of keeping any corals with one of those.
What salt do you use Alex?
Red Sea blue bucket
@@ReefDork thank you 😊
I guess you raise the alk by dosing?
@@TimChump yep, ATI Essentials Pro

what intensity are your lights what light
Kessil AP700 and a360we. Both at 100%.

No euphyllia!!
Get a nano tank
My flame angel had my acan for dinnee😩😩😩
🙁
I don't like zoa's. People always mix all the colors together and it just looks messy.
This video would have been a lot more impactful and helpful if your 6 corals were actually specific corals. Not entire families.
