You know that feeling you get when you find out that a musician you love has covered a song by another musician you love? That's one of my top five feelings.
Not a tab as such but, verse:- C (x32010) - hammer on the D string F (xx3210) - hammer on the G string Am (x02210) - hammer on the B string chorus (& rest!):- F (133210) C/G (332010) G (320033) That's it. Easy. But sounds great.
well haldenver, may i suggest not just reading into his lyrics, and actually reading interviews. maybe even speak to him yourself, as many of his followers have done. he's a thoroughly decent bloke. he just loves his music. and even if he is educated - why is that something to hold against him? i'm educated and proud - even if you are anti-education at least base your sweeping statements on hard fact, not reading into his lyrics. and wikipedia does not count.
Love this song, bought the album not to long ago after listening to love ire &song nonstop for weeks :L, admitedly this is the first version i found then looked up the original, i prefer this one , but im not really into the techno thing. The arguments here on it though are grade A funny :L, i doubt any of you actually speak like that and are just usuing that to show off your vocab? Cause that males you snart somehow? :L you probably had to spell check it to not look like a fool first :L
death cab for cutie???? hahaha yeah right good music.. fair enough if u think there good but no way should they be listed in america's great bands nooob
yeah true true. his voice isn't perfect but the awesome part about music is the fact that everyone can make it their own. I respect your view on it. I'm not going to be the psycho angry youtuber who screams at you for having a different taste.
American has great music.Britain's got the best bands ever (The Beatles and Led Zeppelin), but America has Bob Dylan, Nirvana, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, and of course The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie. Not to mention an unbelievably amazing list of Punk artists like The Ramones and many others. Idk if you were really saying shit about American music but I just wanted to set the record straight because I have British friends who give no respect to American music at all.
This is awful. Half the Postal Service service appeal is the electronic backing. He sounds like a Glasgow busker. I suppose i'd still throw 10p at him for trying.
he's not playing it like metal you fool. some people just dont have a clue! this is a cover - meaning its not going to be entirely like the original - he's given his take on the song, which is fucking brilliant - its not metal - its just brilliant ok? : )
This is really good, but it seems like at times he's screaming not singing and it doesn't sound good. This guy definetly has a lot of potential and pretty good voice too, and i love this song.
dave grohl yeah he was good in nirvana, when he did what he was good at....drums foo fighters are gash, he's about as talented as an inbred mule- whihc is what he resembles too :P
No offense to him or anyone that likes him, but I don't really like him. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE THE POSTAL SERVICE, but I thought he was a bit off key at times.
@xjoeynumbasx He has recorded it. It's on a kind of rarities album called 'The First 3 Years'. You can get it bundled with Love, Ire and Song for the price of one cd now too.
I think this is fantastic. This song always seemed a little angrier than the way most people play it. Postal Service just hid the bittersweet under slick saccharine.
I was standing just to the right of this camera. Nice promo for Ben Marwood too. :-) There's a video of Ben singing this song on youtube somewhere, with Frank singing along in the audience.
I'm at eton myself and got frank to come play here, he's not embarassed by his education or background at all. i reckon he's proud to get the education he was lucky enough to get. on a funnier note, when he was here he put up posters for the "March Against the Monarchy." ...it had a picture of the queen and guillotine :) xxxx
What does he say from 1:37 to 1:41? I've noticed this on all his performances of this song. He doesn't say "tells your new friends." He says something else I can't understand.
oh my god, i am a massive PS fan and happened upon this as i'm seeing Frank turner support the gaslight anthem in Feb. absolutely amazing cover, props mate,if you play this at the bristol gaslight show i'll forever be in your debt!! :)
I like this cover a lot. It is raw. He is so into it that I can almost imagine him as having written it. The video makes me feel as though I was there. Thank you.
I've lost count of how many times I've listened to this.... Pure bliss...
I can’t explain to you how much this song has been on my mind for over 15 years
same
You know that feeling you get when you find out that a musician you love has covered a song by another musician you love? That's one of my top five feelings.
I thought it sucked and as I was clicking back you got me at the end, it was wonderful, good job
love love love. possibly even better than the original. and i love the original.
The Ben Marwood cover of this song made me interested in the song in general (The Postal Service original) and this song makes me love it even more!
Awesome!
Not a tab as such but,
verse:-
C (x32010) - hammer on the D string
F (xx3210) - hammer on the G string
Am (x02210) - hammer on the B string
chorus (& rest!):-
F (133210)
C/G (332010)
G (320033)
That's it. Easy. But sounds great.
@VicKyCusTard I believe so, yes (5 months later)
please someone send me a tab of this
or at least a chord sequence
would be forever greatful :D
I thought this song was originally done by Ben Gibbard, or was that also a cover?
who the FUCK is this guy! I FUcking LOVE this song! both this, and the original are so amazing and so passionate in different ways...
Me too!
i dunno, beginnings a bit iffy, but after the shouting starts he makes it beautiful.
fair comment peeps.
@fulham987 you know a ben did the original song too right...?
hehe, this is 10 times better than the orgininal piece.
@PositiveTension505 Trolling reference FTW.

Im sorry and no offence but ur accent makes the song sound bad...
I love the original, but just wow... this guy puts some serious emotion and just "raw-ness" into it... epic.
2:19 gave me goosebumps. You can just see all the emotion he's putting into it.
back here in 2021. from my 2011 playlist
yeah true true. his voice isn't perfect but the awesome part about music is the fact that everyone can make it their own. I respect your view on it. I'm not going to be the psycho angry youtuber who screams at you for having a different taste.

everyone has a right to an opinion. i like his rendition of the song he has the right feel even if it doesn't sound like the original.
dave grohl yeah he was good in nirvana, when he did what he was good at....drums
foo fighters are gash, he's about as talented as an inbred mule- whihc is what he resembles too :P

I think this is fantastic. This song always seemed a little angrier than the way most people play it. Postal Service just hid the bittersweet under slick saccharine.
With no capo I play the verse as Eb Abminor Cminor, with the chorus as Ab (major) Eb Bb.
I hope this helps.
@VicKyCusTard it was done by the postal service, of which Ben Gibbard is/was the singer.
That was fantastic. Frank shall never stop singing. At least if I would have anything to say.
@Eat1tal1an So covering songs is unoriginal, but quoting Jim Morrison isnt?
This beautiful!
I love Frank Turner, in Million Dead and his solo stuff.
This is my favorite postal service song too.
That last minute honestly had the hairs on the back of my neck standing up!
Dude I came to troll, but this is fucking awesome!
agreed. it's funny because I'm only 15 haahahahh.
go to ultimate guitar, they have it just about dead on
Just remembered, it's Capo on 2 aswell. Sorry guys!
wow.. such a beautiful heartfelt version.. really did make me stop...
@zachwulderk yes, but was that the original ?
I suppose those are both Fmaj7 but who cares.
amazing
He has an okay voice, but it's pretty weird.
Completely off topic but i love your name!
@xjoeynumbasx He already has mate
he sounds like plankton
Very Nice cover! Tabs anyone?
So fucking great!
No, but just as good. ;)
So much fucking PASSION
I thought he ruined it.
❤
I was standing just to the right of this camera.
Nice promo for Ben Marwood too. :-)
There's a video of Ben singing this song on youtube somewhere, with Frank singing along in the audience.
but better.
agreed !
I'm at eton myself and got frank to come play here, he's not embarassed by his education or background at all. i reckon he's proud to get the education he was lucky enough to get.
on a funnier note, when he was here he put up posters for the "March Against the Monarchy."

xxxx
fake!
amazing

Frank Turner... How can anyone be so perfectlly wonderful?
Also, i always threaten to cut off peoples legs too!! YAY :D LOL.
it's live, perhaps that's why. he sings his fuckin' heart out, perhaps that's why it's not note perfect. long live the frank!
Frank Turner - the best thing to happen to British music since... well to be honest, he is just the best. Check him out
By far my most favourite version of the song but does my nut in on the track at the end when he keeps saying 'Cleaving' instead of 'Leaving'
he makes it his own
not saying it's better than the original, just different
studio version is mint
I'm just about to upload my cover of this and I almost don't want to because it doesn't match up to this. But then again, I doubt much do.
Well, the original is a really sad song. So I think that FT did a good job on this cover. Very emotional one.
so much passion! SO AMAZING!! never seen a cover better then this
this is REALLY a cover!!!! when his play it loud i get like; what happend?.... thats the magic of a cover, something original... GREAT WORK
oh my god, i am a massive PS fan and happened upon this as i'm seeing Frank turner support the gaslight anthem in Feb.
absolutely amazing cover, props mate,if you play this at the bristol gaslight show i'll forever be in your debt!! :)
wow
@StreetlightEagle
not the chords of the actual song.
I can tell you that much.
@ifonlyicouldsleep It's on "The First Three Years" album in studio form.
I like this cover a lot. It is raw. He is so into it that I can almost imagine him as having written it. The video makes me feel as though I was there. Thank you.
@StreetlightEagle yes, look on ultimate guitar, they have the tab for this version
check out the first three years album (a love ire and song extra), it has this song :-)
Check out the version of this song by Rich O'Toole. It is the best version I have heard.
Interesting: I just found this by chance, and realised it was 4 years ago to the day.
oh my, he made this beautiful song even more beautiful... wow, i'm butter in the sun right now ;)
Ironic how the first time I watch this video, and it was posted three years ago.
From what i can see, its...
Capo 3rd Fret
Verse - C, F, Am
Chorus - F, C, G
@schefjackson117 thats happened to me when i play live all the time ahaha
@jackknifedjuggernaut He says "tells me where to stand."
'tells me where to stand'?
It was definitely good, but he sounds very angry xD
today is this dude's birthday...so happy personal new year frank turner
"ashamed of his education and class"
Can I ask how you came to this conclusion?
@jackknifedjuggernaut It's "tells me where to stand"! :)
Not enough people have heard this version of this song!
@aledinsalisbury i love how angry he gets!
Look up John allreds cover of this
K, he's playing it on 3 this time, duh....
Absolutely Amazing
So much better than the Postal Service.
wow this guy is amazing!!!! i wish i could see him live!!!
