You can tell he's a real woodworker not because of the quality of the work but because he can't stop identifying all of his faults and problems with the result.
Agreed! Rob, beautifullyt done! My local teacher (cabinet maker) says that a really good woodworker knows how to hide his / her mistakes. (or turn them into a feature)
So beautiful! So much thought and design were put into it! As always thanks for sharing your insights and knowledge so we could learn and become better woodworkers
Such a labor of love. Watching every episode of this build, on the membership class was amazing. Such precision and attention to detail, and most calculations were done on the fly! The episodes of modifying the locking systems alone had me locked to the screen. The custom IBC chisel handles that you turned, are beautiful! Combining this incredible cabinet with your awesome tool selection will be a treasure for someone, someday. And our combat wounded Veterans will be the recipients of your sacrifice. Your light does shine before men, Rob Cosman. Now get over yourself about the slight color differences!
Over a year! Wow, that is some incredible patience. It is a quality that I hope to gain in my projects. I tend to get in a hurry and end up making mistakes that probably could have been avoided if i had exercised more patience.

I only wish I could come to your class but we've talked about my restraints before. I only wish I could help more than telling anyone and every vet about you... if you could think is a way call me. You called before when I bought my first saw off you so my# I would guess is in your system. Lemme know plz n I'll do what can for you and the PHP!
To say that that is a beautiful piece, filled with an amazing set of tools is such an understatement - truly wish I had the funds to bid for it. Side note, thanks for showing it again, has lit the spark again, to build my own tool chest, very much needed, lumber is already purchased and sitting waiting for me.
With the amount of work and detailing. A lot of people would not get an end result. Another task would take priority. FABULOUS to see this finished. I believe in time the colour of the woods will soften and will look even more amazing. Heirloom quality.❤❤❤❤❤❤ PHP
Any chance of diagrams for the locking mechanisms? With the dimensions given, the case itself requires no plans. Thank you for sharing this beautiful cabinet.
Amazing work Rob by you and your colleagues. I am happy to hear this was a year project. Sometimes I get dissapointed in myself because my projects take so long to complete were I am strictly using only hand tools. However, the fact this project took you the time it did reminds me even for the experts the art is a slow tedious process.
This is a beautiful cabinet Rob. Reminds me of the H. O. Studiey's cabinet that made the rounds 25 years ago. One nit-pick; I'm not fond of the use of magnets to hold chisels. A small residual magnetic field will remain in the steel of the chisels, and that will cause the chisels to hold on to the swarf when sharpening them, interfering with the finer grits.
Beautiful, beautiful piece, I can handle the wood colour change. Cannot wait for the lottery, raffle, auction or whatever way you intend to use to raise the funds, I'm in!
This is specifically for Rob. Can you please demonstrate how you would go about making a drawer for a cabinet with a face frame? I would really like to know what is the best way to go about this.
Oh cool! A new Cosman video always makes my day. That thing is exceptionally nice. I've see much of the explanations of the various sections and parts during the live-streams but I will always watch, like, and comment on your videos to support the channel and by extension the work you do for the vets. I hope that cabinet brings a ton of cash. I can't even imagine what kind of price tag would have to go on here if it was simply up for sale. Good luck with it and as always, thanks for posting.
Rob. Fine job looks great. I need something to keep my special tools in . I LIVE a mile from the Gulf of Mexico and I can watch tools rust . My WR 5 1/2 WAS a casualty that really upset me I need to make it so it'll seal up that way I can cope things with a thin coat of oil and put them in there with a bunch of moisture packets Maybe maybe that will help me a little bit more control in the rust have a great day sir I enjoy your show
I agree....The trick is building a sealed or nearly sealed container. The lid or doors is where most of the air / moisture comes it. It must seal to the searface with some type of gasket
Nice work, Rob. Other than the joy of designing and building a cabinet like this, I've never understood their appeal. Aren't they next to useless in the workshop? They hold only a small portion of the tools found in even the smallest workshops and if your new panel saw is too long, or the head on your new mallet is too big you have to either rebuild your cabinet or store your new tools somewhere else. I'd love to hear arguments in favour of these cabinets - other than the pleasure and experience gained in their making.
I started woodworking last year. I have been watching lots of your videos and was just thinking about building a hand tool cabient, perfect timing on this video
I lov watching your videos, im pretty new to wood working, about a year now, watching this , well ill never achieve that quality , 8m 70 now, but I love making things, im still doing basic builds, boxes and such, but im learning! Thanks for your video.
Thanks Rob, you are such a Master Craftsman. I really love your intricate dovetails, especially in the contrast wood. This is such a beautiful piece, it is a shame to use it. But, that's what wood working is all about,. Sure, it will eventually get a bit dinged up, but that will give it some character and will show it has actually been used. Rob, you should be very proud of not only the fine wood working you do, but also the important work you do for the Combat Wounded Veterans. Thank you for share this with us and with everything you do. Thanks mate. From kmdc in Oz.
Because the guy who created it did not catch it and neither did we and its too small of an error to spend the time and money to correct. We are suppose to be making a brand new entry clip
As a woodworker and a carpenter, I take the finger-jointed brick molding that comes with exterior doors (like the white one in the video's background).... and I throw it on the burn pile. Unique custom molding will be the first thing people see when passing through my doorways. Bust out that 66 beader and get to it.

The attention to detail is incredible. Great work and a great cause.

Thank-you!

Rob. That is a fantastic tool cabinet. So well done..😊
Excellent stuff! Reminds of Henry Studley's tool box.
Not sure I can live up to Studley's but thanks for the comparison
That's significantly smaller than I imagined it to be.
Fantastic how you managed to fit so much into such a compact cabinet.
its designed as a bench top or table top cabinet

I have not experienced that. I wonder if it has anything to do with me putting wood between the magnet and the blade?
Maybe more that you touch up your blades before really course grits are needed.
Beautiful tool cabinet and incredibly engineered! Well done Rob!
Thanks for the comment
Its a very beautiful piece and inspiring
Thanks for watching
Really like the tool case. I need to build one for my hand tools.

THANKS FOR ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO
Thank you Rob for teaching us your craft! You are not only a great craftsmen but also a very good teacher.
Love your work/videos, and your support of vets. Keep it up. Looking forward to making one of these one day.
Well whats wrong with starting today?
@RobCosmanWoodworking You're not wrong, and I'm sure you don't wanna hear my excuses ha
Great work as always, Rob.

The color of the Aspen(or the contrast) is just enough. I like it better than something lighter.
I just prefer with its bright white for the contrast
Heck, I would be happy with the prototype, a lot better than not new to me laundry room cabinets that I use.
I keep my prototypes as give aways

I was very disappointed we could not find a high quality brass lock. They use to be easy to find
