    January 17, 2021
Port Alberni, BC - Coulson Group has announced the sale of the Hawaii Mars and has engaged the services of Platinum Fighter Sales, an international sales group of vintage aircraft.
The Martin Mars aircraft were manufactured in Baltimore, Maryland at the Glenn L. Martin factory and was the largest aircraft built by the United States Government during the WW2 era. The Hawaii Mars started service in 1945 for the United States Navy providing air support to the Hawaiian Islands from the West Coast of California.
Hawaii Mars was the United States largest air ambulance shuttling injured soldiers from Hawaii to California during the Korean War and could carry over 120 soldiers plus medical crews. The fleet of 5 Martin Mars aircraft were purchased in 1958 by a consortium of timber companies in British Columbia and converted to water bombers to protect their timber lands on the West Coast of Vancouver Island.
Two Martin Mars aircraft were converted to water bombers with a water capacity of 7,200 USG each and were the largest firefighting aircraft worldwide until 2006.
Wayne Coulson stated, “ The Martin Mars aircraft and crews have served as critical support in both its military and civilian life and we're looking to find an individual that will respect and care for the aircraft as much as we and its pervious owners have.”

Earlier this month [May 2024] My big sister took my Dad and I on a tour of the HM, around it and inside when the mechanics were on lunch hour. Got to sit in the captain's seat and make plane engine noises. What a joy to see this plane. Standing at the tail, looking up at the size of it is jaw dropping. Thanks to Coulson for letting us see the HM before she's takes off.

The few individuals in this comments section who did not donate one single penny towards the restoration of the aircraft, and insist on the aircraft be donated, either put up the money to purchase it, or just shut up.

Didn't Coulsons buy the Mars water bombers under the agreement that one would stay in the Valley once they were retired? Port Alberni deserves to get to keep one of them. They were all of our planes long before they were the Coulson's.

They were American military aircraft before that.

Coulson tried to send Philippine Mars to that museum a decade ago, but the plan fell apart.

@@brianb-p6586 Yeah it's now going to Arizona instead. Which is kind of fitting since it did fires fires down there a few times.

Both Mars have been sold (or donated): Hawaii Mars is going to the BC Aviation Museum, and Philippine Mars is going to Pima. Now, they are both still at Sproat Lake.

I believe The Hawaii, possibly the Philippine Mars too might be flying again for one last trip to Victoria at the provincial museum, although I am skeptical These planes are even capable of any kind of flight restoration due long years of inactivity, I don't think these planes have been well maintained as of late.

Dont sell if for like 5 million. It cost more than 100 million dollars or 200, to build a large new aircraft like this. Is one of the last very big classic flying boats left. Rebuild it and use it for turist flights ? Is a lot of big lakes in Canada like the Great Slave Lake, and 1.000 more big lakes in the wilderness. Rebuild it, and put some bunk beds inside, so like 30-50 turist can sleep inside the flyining boat like a hotel, and fishing on the lake in the day time. or water sport, like SUP paddel board.

The music is pathetic. So much so I cut off the rest of the video. If more people think like me, good luck selling it!
