Dakota Fire Pit. This fire system has some great uses, like giving great updraft, small wood keeps it maintained, often not much smoke, and the flame is much less visible. Used often by military, if a fire is essential, but stealth must be maintained.
In fact, in a hostile setting, good to light your fire at daybreak and at dusk; at both times there can be ground mist in the air which can camouflage your woodsmoke; and also that's when any locals will be lighting fires to cook/heat.
Once your fire has done it's job, quench it immediately, then assume your position has been revealed, so move to another position ideally.
Fire is great, but it's a big cause of giving away position to hostiles; either the woodsmoke, the brightness of the flame, the crackle of wood burning, the crack of you snapping twigs, or simply the hunt for firewood - which has you potentially wandering when you should be laying low.
