I’m so happy this is becoming more popular! I didn’t have access to a trainer, and trained mine all by myself. No one really understands how disabling Chronic Migraines are
As the science and training techniques advance, I think we're going to be able to use dogs for many more alerts/tasks than was previously thought possible. I'm so glad you were able to train your dog for what you needed. Migraine's can be incredibly disabling.
It's nice to see other owner trained teams! My current dog was originally a stock dog and started alerting on his own. We realized what was going on and started rewarding him and had to catch ourselves up. Then it was mostly working on public access stuff. Just got a new young dog to start training and binging @DoggyU videos 😂.
This is making me cry 😢 I’ve suffered with migraines for almost 4 decades and our healthcare system is so broken that I never knew that these things even exist. It took decades before a doctor even told me migraine specialists exist and sent me to one. Ive had times when I was living a fully disabled life and no one ever said, BTW you are disabled and there are resources for you. I am so glad you got the help you needed and I hope this video reaches people like us who are so deeply impacted by this disease.
Intelligent disobedience. Exactly this. I've had a terrible time trying to convince my fiance that, no, a service dog is NOT supposed to obey my every command without question. That's one of the reasons to have a very closely bonded dog, service dog or otherwise. He knows things that I don't. To remove the option for Intelligent disobedience would be to ruin my dog.
Watching this honestly feels life changing. I just adopted a dog last month and recently noticed that he sticks really close to me about half and hour before I start feeling my migraine. I never thought I would have a solution beyond taking a ton of pain medication and expecting to lose a chunk of my day every time I had a migraine. He alerted me earlier this week so I took my medicine early enough that I was only down for three hours. I’m feeling so excited right now
I'm so glad you've got a dog that is naturally alerting! You can definitely cultivate and reward the dog for alerting, and consider doing some scent work training to be able to increase alerting abilities and potentially transfer the alert to something very easy to recognize. Happy Training!
I have hemiplegic migraine with migraine with brainstem aura. I’m thinking about getting a service dog because I actually blackout at or I can’t talk other times. They are the scariest things and they come and go in the same day
I'm getting a service dog prospect soon and I'll be owner training. I'm quiet young so alot of people don't take me seriously but it isn't necessarily the age that matters, 13+ can be service dog handlers. I've trained my pet dog and he can qualify for one but he's to small. Mine will be doing mobility work. Tysm, I couldn't do this without your channel honestly.

@@breahogenkamp Each person's disability is different so I can't blanketly say "these tasks would be good for you" and each dog can train for most tasks, while some individuals will do better than others. I do offer a Service Dog 101 Consult on DOGGYU.COM where I can work with you specifically to figure out what the best fit, both breed, and tasks are. I do have some plans for future videos around picking a dog, as well as task options, but again it's very individual. If you're looking for help on picking a puppy, I also have puppy testing videos that talk about breed tendencies over on my Patreon at Patreon.com/DoggyU at the Inner Circle or Elite level. Generally though, go with the lab.
I have an English Creme Golden Retriever for my service dog too. Although I groom her daily and give her fish oil, she still sheds like crazy so sometimes I am afraid to take her with me; especially to restaurants. Any suggestions?
I bring a mat with me to certain places, especially that have carpet. Like my therapist's office has really nice carpets, so I bring a mat for my dog to lay on so I can bring the hair with me when I go :) Alternatively, if your'e very concerned and when it's not too hot, they make suits that are lightweight that you can dress your dog in. This would also keep most of the hair off the floor.

Hi Brendo! I recommend checking out this book:amzn.to/3MXIxri As well as Debby Kay's Super Sniffers Program. Also, if you can't hear the video there is an option for a transcript or captions on most youtube videos. Hope that helps!
I’m going to be getting my puppy in a month and am going to train to help me with my anxiety & panic attacks. I find incredibly difficult to remember what I’m supposed to do when one is building. Is there a way to train a dog to interrupt the build up without me telling him, or will I always have to use a que?
Some people will train a scent-based alert if your body chemistry changes during that time. The hard part though is both the difficulty of collection, and the fact that we don't know what the dog is alerting on so it can be unreliable and just difficult. However, if you have an outward manifestation of buildup that you can train to, often the dogs will start alerting to scent over time as their understanding of the cue develops.
Hi I have seizures and I get anxiety I start shaking or if something bad happened is when most common my seizures happen so I need to stay relaxed I’m training my own dog can you show me some techniques for those problems I have free time because I’m disabled and have Lupus too so if I’m tired I get dizzy and depressed
Hi Lorieann! Welcome to the channel! Have you checked out my video on deep pressure therapy for calming your nervous system? ruclips.net/video/P4F_v8dww0g/видео.html
Unfortunately, I do not specialize in scent training. I would check to see if Debby Kay's Super Sniffer program covers that type of scent detection. Happy Training!
Hi Breanna - without knowing the specific dog/breeder/lines/training history/human etc. I am unable to make any meaningful recommendation in this department. What I can say generally, is that in my experience, many herding dogs take on the emotions of the owner around anxiety, so they do not make good service dog candidates for anxiety. That doesn't mean there aren't individuals that can do the work, just that if your main goal is a dog for anxiety, I would get a well-bred lab instead. But again, that is a generalization. I would consult with a service dog trainer to discuss your needs and goals in more detail. I offer a Service Dog 101 consult that may be helpful. You can find more info at DOGGYU.COM
It really depends on if the "need to keep in sight" is really an underlying symptom of separation distress or lack of confidence, or just a dog that loves to be with their human, which is great. Also depends on age of pup. Generally we want a dog that wants to be with us, but isn't distressed by not being with us.
@@ambershockey8385 that probably has more to do with crate training than separation. I'd give her something really awesome in her crate every time you leave her, like a KONG or Toppl. ruclips.net/video/3kCFdBMyeUw/видео.html

Generally though, go with the lab.
when do u start sd training???
Great question! Right away! Here’s a video on what I start with when i first get a prospect: ruclips.net/video/G8AjPkj9CxA/видео.html
Like my therapist's office has really nice carpets, so I bring a mat for my dog to lay on so I can bring the hair with me when I go :)
Alternatively, if your'e very concerned and when it's not too hot, they make suits that are lightweight that you can dress your dog in. This would also keep most of the hair off the floor.
Could you do a video for training anxiety alert and response?
Hi Milly! Great news! My DOGGY•U Community actually has a written out training protocol for medical alert/behavior interruption, as well as a couple videos talking about and showing how I train the alert behavior. You can join for as little as $3 and have access to all of that and 100+ other videos (cancel anytime). Patreon.com/Doggyu. Hope to see you there!
Can you go to animal shelter and adopt a service dog that already training?
Here’s a video where I answer that question :)

We are working with my daughters little dog to alert her for migraines and the doctor laughed at me when I brought it up. She basically told me she was not going to help us with the paperwork. She has a migraine every single day just about and is 16. This is really affected her life but they say lot of people don’t recognize it. What do you suggest?
There is no paperwork required for service dog work. I highly recommend you take my Service Dog 101 course to help you understand the laws and the legality surrounding service dogs in the US, along with training timelines, etiquette, and more. You can find more info here: courses.doggyu.com/p/service-dog-101
It's currently on sale until the end of the day for 20% off if you use code WHIPSBDAY
Good luck with your training!

Hi Brendo!
I recommend checking out this book:amzn.to/3MXIxri
As well as Debby Kay's Super Sniffers Program.
What type of dog is Archie? He is beautiful!
He is a golden retriever :)
i am just starting to train my dog for pots service. but i need Gluten detection also is there a chance you can make a video for that?
Unfortunately, I do not specialize in scent training. I would check to see if Debby Kay's Super Sniffer program covers that type of scent detection. Happy Training!
HELP I need to find a dog (small in size for my special needs son) Would you please direct me
I live in Florida I need one as soon as possible
Please answer my question. Can you train a Australian Shepherd to do anxiety tasks??
I have a black lab puppy who absolutely has to keep me in her eye sight is that a good thing or no
It really depends on if the "need to keep in sight" is really an underlying symptom of separation distress or lack of confidence, or just a dog that loves to be with their human, which is great. Also depends on age of pup. Generally we want a dog that wants to be with us, but isn't distressed by not being with us.
@DoggyU she whines in her kennel for maybe 4 minutes then settles
She's also 5 months old
@@ambershockey8385 that probably has more to do with crate training than separation. I'd give her something really awesome in her crate every time you leave her, like a KONG or Toppl. ruclips.net/video/3kCFdBMyeUw/видео.html
@@DoggyU she usually gets a peanut butter stuffed Kong when I do leave her . I wished I had help training her . But I can't afford a professional trainer or the virtual ones to get her where she needs to be itd be great to see some videos of people training tasks so us owner trainers could see how it's done
I would like you to do a video on the different types of deep pressure. My girl is only 45lbs 25" tall so she will let me know I need DPT, then jump on my lap laying her head on my right shoulder. ❤🦮
Have you checked out my video on training sternal DPT: ruclips.net/video/P4F_v8dww0g/видео.html
I think doing a video in the future on different grounding behaviors would be a great idea! I'll add it to the list!
Thanks for commenting!
I’m very impressed with this information. I also suffer from debilitating ocular migraines, my 2 y/o German Shepherd alerts me at least 30 to 45 minutes prior with no formal training. Two me that is excellent, your video inspired me to train me and Lady for more. Well done!
Hi Coraly! I'm so glad you found this video helpful! There's so much our dogs can do for us! Welcome to the channel and thank you for taking the time to comment!
Great content. Thank you.
Thanks Eric! Glad you' enjoyed the video!
