That's probably youtube's ambient mode! It can be disabled by going to the settings for the video (same ones for captions, speed etc...) and turning it off there

Thank you so much for the suggestion, but my ambient mode is off and the picture is the same. It’s a shame, because I miss out on so many videos. :(
