..always enjoy watching your flight videos and thanks for all these helpful information and sharing them with us.. well i think the video with no soft motor pads has a more sharp and kind of more response to what you're asking the quad to do then the one with the soft padding...!
mia miaa yes you are right about the sharp response without the soft motors. by dropping the filters you regain some of that. it was a bit too sharp before however.
really like your advice about focused practice, I was thinking just that since my last flight, which was a bit random but I made the decision in my mind that next time I go out I will plan out a flight path in my mind and follow it with the intention of improving how SMOOTH I fly... This is indeed the trick for quality flight and video. I was getting so frustrated because I would have such horrible motor twitches and jittery video so I would buy new motors and the problem was still there. I soft mounted my flight controller and still had issues. What really fixed all my troubles was turning my standoffs around so instead of having the threads sticking up, I now have the flat part up. Soft mounting the motors also helped in reducing vibrations and the final touch was disabling the gyro notch filters. I bought the new Emax 2306 2400kv and they were twitching so bad that they were very hot when I landed. Now that the vibrations are gone, I disabled the 2nd gyro notch filter as well and my motors are cool as can be. I was about to quit the hobby cause I was starting to think that everything I bought was defective when in fact it just needed to be mounted different.
excellent video! When I fly I concentrate on how the quad took that corner, how my thumbs are moving in that turn. When I come back to that turn I try to do in a way that it feels faster/smoother. Thanks for sharing!
Both myself and one of my flying buddies have had great success with turning off our notch filters as well. With the notch filters I was getting mid throttle oscillations. Removing the notch filters not only made the oscillations disappear but also gave me the smoothest flying quad I own. I can't get prop wash oscillations if I try now. This is on a setup with a soft mounted FC and normally mounted motors. My theory is that the delay in the processing of the gyro data added by the filters was making things worse. I wonder if the optimal setup might be soft mounting motors and less aggressive LPF as you mention and no notches or super minimal notches if necessary. I'll have to give it a test.
i just tried that on a quad with emax s motors and still get mid throttle oscillations testing in my lap with props off. It was worth a shot though. I'm going to try some tpu motor mounts.
love love love your videos. Lot of info to take in. keep it up. learning a lot. Just wish it wasnt winter so I could fly more. Got some flight sims but they are not that great.
Try 'fpv events simulator'. If I was completely intoxicated I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference. It's very close to feeling real for racing. Freestyle feels a bit weird still. The TinyWhoop sim feels 98% perfect.
+1 just need a kid, pet or car to come out from the drive, wouldn't have any time to react. I also wouldn't want people hooning past my property either.
What do you think about the idea of building a light carbon frame with the battery in the center? I have made some sketches and stuff but I am concerned about the flight controller. The flight controller should be dead center right? But is it more advantageous to have the bulk of the weight in the middle, instead of on top or on the bottom?
I added 3 layers of electric tape as soft mount (because of thread length) and noticed improvement because it took out yaw twitches. I was considering tweaking D for jitters but messing with filters might be better. I'm on Raceflight. Many filters so it will be confusing and take some time. Thanks for reminder to tweak filters.
Hey! Have you tried the Quadrant 25A yet? Also a remark, although you may already know it: I noticed you placed the kebab sticks logo as a logo/subscribe button via the youtube settings. Just keep in mind that if someone has the annotations disabled, he does not see it. Maybe you want to also place the logo in another corner, faded? Just saying.. Keep it up :)
I dunno if the latency is noticeable in terms of inputs, but the FC should be able to better read what the quad is doing in the air and therefore respond more appropriately.
Kabab FPV Ok, I made and printed some TPU pads before, but they were only 1mm thick. Should I try 1.5mm? Should still be able to use the same screws right?
+The RCAddict I'm still using 6mm screws with 3mm arms. 6.5mm would be better however. I may just skip to 7mm and try to be very careful about the windings or make the pads 2mm.
Jan Prejzek I have confirmed it is an ESC issue. not PIDs. PIDs cannot compensate for an ESC that doesn't output the same power. if you have a dipping quad, it's an ESC.
Great informative video. I've got the foxeer legend 2 and I really like it. How long do you get out of the battery? (I record @1080 60fps). What software do use for editing, video looks great, I want my video quality that good when I upload to RUclips.
CnDQuads 35 no special mount. just premiere. in order to get good quality from RUclips you need to have a certain number of followers. I believe around 4500. another way that usually works is uplaod to google drive and then transfer to RUclips. I only record in 2k-2.7k at the widest angle the cam does on any cam I use. 1080 is just too low resolution
hey kabab what soft mounts work really well for flight controllers? i have bobbins 5x5 on stock plastic stand offs but i feel there better options but not sure what..I have a alien 5" and its 5x5 bobbins and im building just to race only and bash 5s around 5" martian 2 with omnibus f4 pro v3 with spedix es30 /multibuilders 2207/2580 what you reccomend?
well by reducing filter we actually letting more noise in the fc and other components specially on motor break!? A,,(capacitor). what about if we instead of softening motor base adding those rubber O rings that we use for fc board we add them to the arms of the quad right where we attach them to the main plate one under and one on top of main plate...?! what do u think... i haven't try it yet...
So what happened with soft mounting motors? Did the fc firmware get so good that it's no longer necessary? 3 years ago for RC aircraft is probably like 20 years ago for cellphones.
Yep that's exactly what happened. We got notch filters and it fixed it pretty much completely. In general soft mounting was a disaster because the motor screws were constantly coming loose.
nice, i'm planning to softmount my motors, do I use it between the motors and the frame or use it also under the arm between screws and arms with some kind of carbon fiber washer? should be ok to use a bike tire tube? thanks
yeah anything like bike tire tube or even just a couple layers of electrical tape will work. Put it between the motor and frame only. You can get like rubber/plastic washers rings for the screws under the frame too but not needed.
Is there any specific software used for designing the electronics (specifically the PDB and FC)? I wanted to poke around out of curiosity more than anything else. The video was quite helpful, btw. I'll be sure to 3D Print myself soft Flexible PLA mounts when I get the chance. I could also tell a difference in the video, but you're right in saying that it's difficult to spot.
There are a LOT of circuit board design apps out there. I'm not that well versed in the area and moreso direct how it should be made rather than actually laying out the traces myself. The schematics of things like the Naze32 and other FC's are available since they're open source, but it's up to the designer to actually map things out. Sorry I couldn't be of more help there...
Hello again! Just thought I should inform you of what I have found. CircutMaker seems to be a solid choice. It's free, modern, and has every STM32 CPU one can think of. (I did not know there were this many versions of the F4)
Daniel C. thank you! I will definitely check that out. I'm actually working on a project currently which it'll be helpful for too. I've been using the random online Gerber file viewers which suck.
Yes, thinks are so much better than a year ago! Do you think we should have a TPU spacer plus plastic washers on the underside to help isolate vibration through the bolt heads? TPU gets pretty stiff in cold temps, any suggestions on a different material for us Canadians? :)
Carl Feniak I live in CA so I totally forgot what 'cold' meant. I was thinking like 10C. at those temps, you probably need to warm everything up a bit before you fly to get the proper performance. not just the motor mounts and batt.
Anyone that has a 3D printer which prints in TPU can print them. There are probably a dozen designs on thingiverse too. Also, you could just lay down three or four layers of electrical tape.
Can you comment on how you like the Tornado T2's 2206 2300's vs the BH 2206 2450kv team edition's? I just sold 5 BNIB team editions after seeing the armattan 2206 2300kv's fly and how smooth they are. They are just a Tornado T2 with a different bell but absolutely incredible.
Eganwp I have both on quads. they are basically the same motor with different bells and different speeds. the 2300 is just too slow but it's really efficient and probably as good as a 2300 power can get. the team edition is actually 2522kv and it's like opening a window in terms of power feel. the 2300 just feels limited. however, with the cyclone V2 prop, the 2300 isn't bad and the 2522 is nuts fast! perfect :-D
Kabab, where can I get the flight controller soft mounts that you use, I just built my 220, but I'm using silicone washers for vibration control, but I really like the look of yours better!!
miahndes they should be on PiroflipRC in the FC section but there's a better option now. these little rubber screw washer things. dunno where they are on PiroflipRC but they're on there somewhere.
Its been 6 months since this was made. People who raved about soft mount seem to not mention it anymore. Do you still softmount motors? Do you still 3d print or do you use tape?
P the cicadas are fine. I personally feel their built pretty cheap. I think they're also more expensive than the spediX 20A which has had a success rate of 100% for me so far. the Cicadas are not dshot capable. you'll need to look up which cap to remove in order to activate dshot.
Just got some of those spedix 20a from defiancerc. Love the size, but they don't work out of the box on dshot. 3 of them spin, but one just keeps rebooting. Works fine on multishot. Hoping they brake as well as my cheapo racestars
mooosestang they're far better than the racerstars. I think you may just need to update their firmware. only takes a minute to do. get the blheli chrome app.
Is this nodding thing still an issue? Cause i have the same strong nodding on pitch and can't get rid of it with anti gravity. Also my quad is very sluggish on low throttle, no matter how high I tune my i term...
yes it is still an issue. I believe it's primarily an ESC issue. Antigravity can help as well but it will not fix it 100% if the ESC's are just poor performance.
Kabab FPV Thanks for your answer. Interestingly, now it works. I reflashed Betaflight 3 times and on the third time it worked (same version, all on stock pids just to try) Now it is so stiff and no nodding at all... I have the Hobbywing 40a 4in1, would've been very strange if thoose where the issue... Don't know, why it finally worked, I think airmode was never fully activated, although I could feel the I winding up on the ground.
did you try soft mounting with just electrical tape? I did that on my old 600mm quad and made a huge difference but didn't seem to make any difference on my XL7
This is quite an old video. Most people abandoned soft mounting motors with anything because it's just a pain to deal with. Screws constantly coming loose. The FC's are good at handling all this now so it's not as big of an issue.
Jan Prejzek I used to modify them and add the wire and angled connector but now you can get most of them with the pigtail on it. this one is just the standard 200mw PiroFlipRC vtx.
i need to figure out what i need for my filters im stock on beta 3.1.7 i just soft mounted the flight controller omnibus f4 pro v3.. i feel like mine is flying a sharp and precise that it could
David Downs so some time after this video I learned a lot more about damping. you're right. much of the time it can make it worse. you need to experiment with various kinds of damping differently for every quad. it also often changes when you swap props. very very annoying. I'm still hunting down the solution that will solve all
The Hyperlite/BrotherHobby 2205 2450kv (really 2522kv) in V3 or V4 are currently my favorite motors. I'm also using the Cyclone V2 props which just barely came out a few days ago so only testers have prop samples. Incredibly good prop. For the TPU mounts, talk to Brent Collier, Brian Phillips or Max Porter on facebook. They'll set you up. PiroFlip will likely start offering them too.
I was thinking about that & I know using your actual transmitter is the best route. The only problem I have is I'm still trying to find M9 gimbals so I can put my Taranis back together. The stock ones took a crap recently.
I'm new to drone hobby. I've been practicing every chance I get. Here in Ohio it's winter but that hasn't stopped me. I love this hobby. Do you have any tips on how to control nose in controls. I'm getting better but nowhere near OK. It's kind of a dumb question but don't know how to pick any useful tips up unless I ask. I will not let myself practice rate mode until I can control the quad in all directions with confidence. Appreciate the videos and knowledge! Take care
mike216ism simulator. you must practice on a simulator. don't even fly in any auto anything mode. it'll screw you up. will make going to rate mode more difficult. it sounds like you need to increase your yaw rate a bit. nose in requires a lot of yaw modulation.
Do you think it would make any difference it you put an o ring in between the screw heads and the frame to help dampen any vibration that might be transferred from the screws
I want to try that but I'm afraid because it's just gonna loosen the motor more and put more stress on the frame in a crash. Maybe I'll print like half mm rings from TPU for them.
Hey, I have an issue and I cant seem to find anyone else that has had my exact issue. In my Fpv video feed, there are small horizontal lines that run through it. It resembles screen tearing in video games. The lines are always in the same place and don't change whether i'm giving more throttle or none at all. Everything in the picture looks great, there are just small lines going through everything. I have tested the camera separately and it doesn't have the lines. Any idea on what it could be?
Sounds like noise from the motors. move all wires from the camera and Vtx away from any ESC power lines. Also try powering the camera directly from your Vtx if it has a 5v out. If you're using some OSD...well that's something I can't help you with. It's very specific.
It is a 5v vtx, so I had it being powered off the 5v out on the PDB, and the camera was being powered off the 5v out on the VTX. At this point I have tested the the Camera and the VTX with a separate 5v power supply and the issue still remained. So i ended up ordering a new VTX. Thanks for replying.
The issue is likely coming from the PDB or wherever the 5v is. Power the Vtx and camera off the same separate 5v and that should take care of it. I know these problems are extremely annoying. I've lost two quads to hard crashes due to these really stupid problems.
it is funny that you mentioned that the quad was pitching backwards during punch outs, because I have had the same issue with my el cheapo build. I was actually thinking about the escs (littlebee 20a oneshot125) could be the cause. I tried adjusting the I term on pitch to 150 without making any difference. the P can't go any higher without having oscillations. The dipping became worse when I changed from a noname 2300kv emax clone motor to racerstar br2205 2600kv
Øyvin Lanner there is no PID setting that will improve it at all. the reason it became worse when going to the cheaper motor is because the cheaper one is likely less efficient and pulling more amps which stress the ESC more. if your run the ESC well under its max rating it usually does better. with that regard, the emax bullet 30A should be the very best esc available today.
I figured out what the problem was, or atleast I got rid of the problem. When I changed motors, from the noname 2300kv to racerstar br2205 2600kv, I also flashed BF 3.1 RC4 from BF 3.0.1. I didn't think that would be the reason for the "dipping", but right after I posted this comment, I flashed RC10 and guess what, the problem was gone. No more pitching backwards when doing punch outs. I compared the CLI dumps and it looks like there is a new parameter called anti gravity treshold which was different between those two RCs. I also watched the overview of BF 3.1 by Joshua Bardwell where he talks about this new parameter, and if I understand correctly, it will affect this kind of behaviour by resetting the I-term. There is probably more to it.
Just curious, this is somewhere in California? Palisades/ Brentwood right? Hahaha am I right? am a landscaper/fpv pilot . Looks so familiar. Great flying btw . Got my subscription!
Whprsnpr careful using it, it won't fit all frames. make sure it'll fit yours. there are other solutions for other frames. for now, it seems soft mounting the FC and the motors are the best way to go. pirofliprc.com/KababFPV-Soft-Mount-V2_p_3764.html
lol, no I wish I could say they are but they aren't. I've actually heard good things about the TBS bulletproof ones but they're just too expensive and also too heavy.
I tried the Cyclone 5045 props on your request. Like the props! Screamers!! Do you notice that you get a lot of bags that have three CC props . out of 10 bags 3 had only 1 clockwise prop. weird!
I put 10 hours into a simulator called hot props before I even really flew a proper quad. When I finished my quad i was doing power loops, spins and things in the real world with ease. I would advise anyone to invest 10+ hours into a simulator. All flying is is muscle memory, practice on the sim and take these skills to the real world :D
KangarooPvP that's amazing! I've seen that happen at least a dozen times now. it's incredible to see and it's the only way to actually start. great work!
In this video the angle is all 35deg except for the upside down floaty bit between the trees. That's about 45deg. It's tough to do matty stuntz kinda stuff with less than 45deg tilt.
Kabab FPV idk man my Spedix ESC are 25 amp & my motors are the T2 2600 kV ones and my yaw jitters are horribly depressing lol maybe its soft mounting time
Hey Kabab, brand new subscriber to your channel because of your great outlook on how to approach things. I'm only a newbie in the hobby & yet to build my first quad. I have all the parts on the way to my mailbox for an Alien 5 build with kiss FC & ESC's as that is what I have had some practice with & my friend who is helping me with it has quite a bit of experience with that frame & setup. Just curious if you think soft mounting as you did is worth doing from a novice perspective? Also if you have any time are there any pointers you can give me from this footage of my first mini quad flight ( found here ruclips.net/video/-nX7jCkcB5o/видео.html ) on where to work on in my practice. Do you think software like Lift Off is accurate enough for some stick time say on days where weather doesn't permit real flying?
KrissKwadd FPV welcome! you're gonna be addicted as we all are very soon. first off, yes, definitely use a simulator. any of them are good enough. the idea is just to become comfortable with the controls and stick movements. do that for at least an hour a day for two weeks and you should be able to pickup the real thing and cruise around. also, yes definitely soft mount your motors. at a minimum just put three layers of electrical tape under the motor before screwing it down. huge difference. this stuff gets very frustrating at times. just be prepared for that. we all go through it regularly. good luck.
Thanks for your reply Kabab, appreciated. Yes, already very adicted. The amount of time & $ I put into my tiny whoop already says it all. Time to migrate to mini quads & am totally aware of the frustrating learning experience. Used to it though coming from a long time passion of playing poker :-D
rodney wickersham the clear blades actually produce more thrust. it's because there is less pigment in the plastic. the pigment contaminates the plastic and changes its properties. makes it weaker. the difference is surprisingly significant. about 90-120g thrust difference.
@@Kabab Makes sense! remember you mentioning that in your chinesium vid aha. Im looking to build my first quad pretty soon after watching you and others for 2 years+ and only touching the sim this last week to realize flying comes to me naturally, gonna do a tp3 build or the tomoquads slingshot. Kinda fantasizing that you have a 3 inch stretched H freestyle frame in works, like a bigger brother to the tinyhawk freestyle. That sexy face tho
First where the hell do you live man , we here in EU are under 1m of snow :( and second do your motors after sound smoother or is it just me ? and great videos , please if you havent done it yet share your designs on thingiverse :)
s3v0 thanks and yeah what you're hearing are the props. cyclone V2 is amazing. also, I don't share my designs anymore. anyone is free to redesign them for themselves. I don't make anything super complex. I don't share because I can't control user experience and have gotten a poor reputation in the past for a model that someone didn't know how to use so they decided to blast me...
He's maybe just getting to the halfway point in his skill development according to the theory. Check out Malcolm Gladwell's book Outliers, then Blink, then David and Goliath. He's my favorite writer and that's where I first read about the 10,000 hour principle.
lol, real quick and assure it's all clear and safe when I do. Most of the people around my spots here know me by now. They come out to watch sometimes.
Sloth fpv it doesn't. also the real GoPro superview still looks better for some reason. looks less distorted. I don't know if it's better code or what. it's just better.
I must say thanks for the support. It's very inspirational hearing someone say keep at it you will get better. I live in upstate NY and have found know one in the area to fly with. The difference in term of vibrations in your footages was clearly noticeable :)

Wow. Really nice flying. And thanks for these explanations. I am just about to start build so I will consider some kind of soft mounting.

I learned so much from the experience with my qav250 in 2015, using a cc3d board and a naze32... Everything these days flies so much tighter.
Great flying, thanks for all the info, nice neighborhood.

best advice I've heard yet!
That's fast!! Look out for the neighbors!! :PNice flying skills !
I'm going to try some tpu motor mounts.
mooosestang emax motors are known for mid throttle oscilations
I wish I could double like this, just because of the fact you're doing it in the rain.
nice fly. i love it
10:55 That sideways loop was awesome. I've never seen that before!
It't literally the first thing you learn after you screw up a roll :D
love love love your videos.
Thx. I had a inducyrix but binding and getting everything set-up was a bear.
Christopher Doty the typical problems anyone doing this stuff has to deal with are usually much more complicated than that unfortunately.
I question the safety of ripping past peoples front gates and driveways :S
+1 just need a kid, pet or car to come out from the drive, wouldn't have any time to react. I also wouldn't want people hooning past my property either.
Yea +1 on this
What if it’s your own house or friends and everyone is aware u are making a video quit talkin shit just to talk shitdrinking haterade
haha haterade
Dude, you must have amazingly cool or deaf neighbors
I'd offer some assistance but sorry I don't use raceflight
Not needed. Though thanks for the reminder. What I'm hoping is that the soft mounting put the vibrations up into higher frequency. :)
Impressive video. So basically being able to lower the filtering applies less latency?
I dunno if the latency is noticeable in terms of inputs, but the FC should be able to better read what the quad is doing in the air and therefore respond more appropriately.
Kabab FPV Alright makes sense. So do you think it is worth softmounting every quad from now on?
+The RCAddict unfortunately I have to say yes. I don't even want to fly any of my other quads anymore until I get more of those pads printed.
Little advice, if your quad falling to corner, when you punch full throttle, it is about PIDs, usually add more P/I to keep it in position ,-)
Oh and do you use any special mount for the foxeer? Cheers Stu (UK)
Kabab FPV Cheers for the quick response, Ill give that a go!
good info! makes sense!
hey kabab what soft mounts work really well for flight controllers? i have bobbins 5x5 on stock plastic stand offs but i feel there better options but not sure what..I have a alien 5" and its 5x5 bobbins and im building just to race only and bash 5s around 5" martian 2 with omnibus f4 pro v3 with spedix es30 /multibuilders 2207/2580 what you reccomend?
well by reducing filter we actually letting more noise in the fc and other components specially on motor break!? A,,(capacitor). what about if we instead of softening motor base adding those rubber O rings that we use for fc board we add them to the arms of the quad right where we attach them to the main plate one under and one on top of main plate...?! what do u think... i haven't try it yet...
Nice to know, have to try this as my fc's are already sofmounted(motor soft mounting non-believer) no changes in the notch filter I assume?
Dennis Riessbeck yeah leave the filters stock, just turn them down a bit
Dennis Riessbeck I too thought it was a stupid idea at first.
Super nice video where do you buy the TBU for the motors?
I find someone with a 3D printer and print them. You could just use a few layers of electrical tape. That work well too. That's what Johnny FPV uses.
nice, i'm planning to softmount my motors, do I use it between the motors and the frame or use it also under the arm between screws and arms with some kind of carbon fiber washer?
should be ok to use a bike tire tube?
thanks
yeah anything like bike tire tube or even just a couple layers of electrical tape will work.
Don't worry about it. I appreciate the reply. (Sure as heck won't use Fritzing anymore)
Carl Feniak I'm not sure the temp will matter too much. the motors will heat them up anyways
Carl Feniak someone I trust told me putting something on the underside doesn't do as much
Carl Feniak I live in CA so I totally forgot what 'cold' meant. I was thinking like 10C. at those temps, you probably need to warm everything up a bit before you fly to get the proper performance. not just the motor mounts and batt.
Yeah I found that props are much more fragile when it's colder than like 15deg C. at -20C they're probably like glass.
Do you mind sharing where I can acquire the TPU motor pads? Thanks for all your hard work.
Anyone that has a 3D printer which prints in TPU can print them. There are probably a dozen designs on thingiverse too. Also, you could just lay down three or four layers of electrical tape.
Thanks for the speedy response! I'm assuming that you used lock tight as well.
YES! Definitely use Locktight!
Eganwp I have both on quads. they are basically the same motor with different bells and different speeds. the 2300 is just too slow but it's really efficient and probably as good as a 2300 power can get. the team edition is actually 2522kv and it's like opening a window in terms of power feel. the 2300 just feels limited. however, with the cyclone V2 prop, the 2300 isn't bad and the 2522 is nuts fast! perfect :-D
hi there could you tell me were you get the flight controller mounts ace videos
Kabab, where can I get the flight controller soft mounts that you use, I just built my 220, but I'm using silicone washers for vibration control, but I really like the look of yours better!!
miahndes they should be on PiroflipRC in the FC section but there's a better option now. these little rubber screw washer things. dunno where they are on PiroflipRC but they're on there somewhere.
Awesome!! Thanks!!
love your flight :-)
would like to see a building video of the quad (slow and easy to follow :)
chefalbino I've wanted to do that but it takes so much frikin effort to do. I will with the next prototype I build.
u using multishoot or Dshoot on flying?? thanks :D verry smooth...
Dshot only. D150 is even better than multishot. Huge upgrade if you're on BF
Kabab FPV Is there any cap removal necessary on those Spedix es20a ? They are marketed as "Dshot Ready" Thanks much ! Killer videos !
Its been 6 months since this was made. People who raved about soft mount seem to not mention it anymore. Do you still softmount motors? Do you still 3d print or do you use tape?
racerstar v2 (rs20a or rs30a) esc with blheli_s are currently popular and cheap. can you say something about them?
I hope so. I just bought some v2 30A to try.
P the cicadas are fine. I personally feel their built pretty cheap. I think they're also more expensive than the spediX 20A which has had a success rate of 100% for me so far. the Cicadas are not dshot capable. you'll need to look up which cap to remove in order to activate dshot.
aikon 30a SEFM blheli_s
When will your flight controller soft mount v2 be available again? I need 16 of them.
When Sergio starts printing them again... :-/ They're moving so I believe the 3D printer is at bay for a bit.
did you try soft mounting with just electrical tape? I did that on my old 600mm quad and made a huge difference but didn't seem to make any difference on my XL7
This is quite an old video. Most people abandoned soft mounting motors with anything because it's just a pain to deal with. Screws constantly coming loose. The FC's are good at handling all this now so it's not as big of an issue.
cool man thanks for the reply
I'm hoping that's not the case. I was told a time frame of about another 7-12 days as of friday.
thats a much bigger difference with jitter than i anticipated.
Hi, question on what vtx do you use with that angled antenna conector. Did you modify it or how did you make it :)
Jan Prejzek I used to modify them and add the wire and angled connector but now you can get most of them with the pigtail on it. this one is just the standard 200mw PiroFlipRC vtx.
Nice, I need to try it
i need to figure out what i need for my filters im stock on beta 3.1.7 i just soft mounted the flight controller omnibus f4 pro v3.. i feel like mine is flying a sharp and precise that it could
David Downs turn your D setpoint down to 1 and transition to .2. see if that helps.
it got worse when using soft mount for flightboard.. thanks for ur help u have responded to questions I've had and I appreciate it
David Downs so some time after this video I learned a lot more about damping. you're right. much of the time it can make it worse. you need to experiment with various kinds of damping differently for every quad. it also often changes when you swap props. very very annoying. I'm still hunting down the solution that will solve all
what 3d printer do you use for making your custom TPU parts?
The one at PiroFlipRC lol, I hate 3D printing. So frustrating. I only use it for small parts.
So now a year later with our current gear do you still soft mount motors on all your quads ?
No I don't because filters have gotten way better and soft mounted motors are a pain
2 questions what are the motors you use and where can I get the tpu mounts
The Hyperlite/BrotherHobby 2205 2450kv (really 2522kv) in V3 or V4 are currently my favorite motors. I'm also using the Cyclone V2 props which just barely came out a few days ago so only testers have prop samples. Incredibly good prop. For the TPU mounts, talk to Brent Collier, Brian Phillips or Max Porter on facebook. They'll set you up. PiroFlip will likely start offering them too.
Thanks Bro 👍
I was thinking about that & I know using your actual transmitter is the
best route. The only problem I have is I'm still trying to find M9 gimbals
so I can put my Taranis back together. The stock ones took a crap recently.
From what I'm hearing, you're going to be waiting a while for those M9s.
In which did you notice a bigger change in jitters/vibrations. Soft mounting motors or, Soft mounting your fc?
I hate to say it but putting the TPU under the motors made a much bigger difference than on the FC.
Have you tried the electrical tape method yet?
Jake Joyner no but I'm pretty sure the TPU stuff is better. makes logical sense for it to be. maybe it's not. I dunno.
Kabab FPV OK,thanks. Will definitely find some kind of simulation program this weekend. Much appreciated
mike216ism use DRL. it's the easiest and fastest to setup.
Kabab FPV I'd be really interested to see how that works
If I ever get around to testing it I'll let everyone know...for now I'm thrilled to get this much improvement from something so simple.
Slightly better. Not as profound as under the motors
jamestheripper thanks. so I don't need to waste effort.
The issue was still there when I tested the VTX with a separate power supply, so I concluded the VTX was busted.
If the camera is being powered off the PDB 5v or otherwise main batt power management system, it too will generate noise similar to Vtx powering.
it is funny that you mentioned that the quad was pitching backwards during punch outs, because I have had the same issue with my el cheapo build.
Øyvin Lanner yeah....maybe...I'm gonna test that actually on one of my dipping quads.
where can we get the motor mounts. I don't know anyone with a 3d printer. thanks!
Talk to Brent Collier, Brian Phillips or Max Porter on facebook. They'll set you up.
thank you!
hypedphoto.com/dronemods/product/2mm-soft-mount-tpu-motor-mount/
what kind of material do you use to softmount your motors?
Booly Vdberg either a few layers of electrical tape, a TPU pad, or one of the special rubber motor pads from PiroflipRC
thanks man!!!
Where did you get the motor mounts?
I printed them at piroflip real quick one day. They should be available from Piroflip soon.
Just curious, this is somewhere in California? Palisades/ Brentwood right? Hahaha am I right? am a landscaper/fpv pilot . Looks so familiar. Great flying btw . Got my subscription!
Freddy banuelos yep you got it
Do you have a thingy link for your FC softmount solution?
Whprsnpr careful using it, it won't fit all frames. make sure it'll fit yours. there are other solutions for other frames. for now, it seems soft mounting the FC and the motors are the best way to go. pirofliprc.com/KababFPV-Soft-Mount-V2_p_3764.html
Thanks, may check those out based on my spacing. Digging your mix of education, prod review, and good flying, its very motivating.
Whprsnpr thanks. I know this stuff can be extrmely frustrating at times.
What are your thoughts on dys esc's?
JC250 forgot about those. I haven't tried the new XSD but DYS has a good reputation since the XM20 so they should be good.
I'm guessing those are the TBS 25A ESCs you're talking about
lol, no I wish I could say they are but they aren't. I've actually heard good things about the TBS bulletproof ones but they're just too expensive and also too heavy.
I tried the Cyclone 5045 props on your request. Like the props! Screamers!! Do you notice that you get a lot of bags that have three CC props . out of 10 bags 3 had only 1 clockwise prop. weird!
rodney wickersham wow that's weird. I've only ever seen one bag out of hundreds that had any kind of mistake like that
How's the durability of that camera?
Justin Nifong so far this one has been pretty good. but it does not do superview so it's not really any good.
I've seen that happen at least a dozen times now. it's incredible to see and it's the only way to actually start. great work!
Size of softmounts and material used please
Jan Prejzek it's just TPU and from what I've heard, anything from 0.5mm to 3mm works similarly.
Whats your camera angle
In this video the angle is all 35deg except for the upside down floaty bit between the trees. That's about 45deg. It's tough to do matty stuntz kinda stuff with less than 45deg tilt.
Where can I get these mounts?
Jonathan Lituco contact this guy Jon at PiroFlipRC. he'll help you out
Some frames have a hole under the motor. Isn't it to cool the motor? I guess i can make a hole in the TPU, so the hole is open?
OlitoniFX no it's not to cool the motor.
Oh, ok!
Yes it's there for the c clip. It falls out more nicely when you crash...
Music in description?
I'll add it right now
also if it dips in 1 corner, make sure all props are tight
completely coincidental I've got Spedix ESC & Brotherhobby Motors makes me feel I've gotta chance lol.
Space Lord lol everyone has a chance.
Kabab FPV idk man my Spedix ESC are 25 amp & my motors are the T2 2600 kV ones and my yaw jitters are horribly depressing lol maybe its soft mounting time
Space Lord yeah you definitely need to soften something if you're getting yaw jitters.
Used to it though coming from a long time passion of playing poker :-D
what was used to soft mount motors. TPU
Yeah 1.5mm tpu pads
playlist info plz it's tight yo.....
ruclips.net/video/QPloG4pzY9U/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/0acAKqh51z8/видео.html
yeah I'm only using the clear red props. Kind of look like a red Jolly Rancher
rodney wickersham the clear blades actually produce more thrust. it's because there is less pigment in the plastic. the pigment contaminates the plastic and changes its properties. makes it weaker. the difference is surprisingly significant. about 90-120g thrust difference.
Thoughts on soft mount in 2019?
FC still needs it. Waste of time for motors now. The code takes care of it. Frame rigidity is the next step we need to work on.
Subbed
I thought that the dip on punch outs was due to a low I in pids for whatever axis it's doing it on not the esc
Cole L it's 100% the ESC. I even discussed it with Boris recently. he assessed black box info himself and found it was desyncs
Oh ok
First where the hell do you live man , we here in EU are under 1m of snow :( and second do your motors after sound smoother or is it just me ? and great videos , please if you havent done it yet share your designs on thingiverse :)
s3v0 thanks and yeah what you're hearing are the props. cyclone V2 is amazing. also, I don't share my designs anymore. anyone is free to redesign them for themselves. I don't make anything super complex. I don't share because I can't control user experience and have gotten a poor reputation in the past for a model that someone didn't know how to use so they decided to blast me...
Kabab FPV i didn't thought about that, you are right, anyways thanks for your videos and thoughts they are really great and usefull
regards :)
Shaun Taylor has probably got 5000 to 7500 hours flying. I've seen him practice, a while back he told me he was flying around 8 hours a day
He's maybe just getting to the halfway point in his skill development according to the theory. Check out Malcolm Gladwell's book Outliers, then Blink, then David and Goliath. He's my favorite writer and that's where I first read about the 10,000 hour principle.
By that standard, most people probably never truly master anything in their lives. Except maybe driving hehe
Jon B Baca correct. and no they don't master driving either. nobody deliberately practices every day driving...
True
That malcolm gladwell book is a load of pseudoscientific bullshit.
How do you shred all over the Palisades without bored wives of lawyers hitting you with their Guccis?
lol, real quick and assure it's all clear and safe when I do. Most of the people around my spots here know me by now. They come out to watch sometimes.
If the legend 2 can do 1920x1440 then you can stretch this to 16:9 and boom superview
Sloth fpv it doesn't. also the real GoPro superview still looks better for some reason. looks less distorted. I don't know if it's better code or what. it's just better.
