「日本のモータースポーツを接見したハコスカGT-Rがレース活動に終止符を売ったのは1972年のこと。しかしスカイライン神話は止まず、ファンはそのサーキット復帰を切々と訴え続けた。
思いが叶ったのは1982年のこと。日産はスカイライン2000RSをベースにシルエットフォーミュラを造り、サーキットへ送り込んだ。このクルマこそがスカイラインスーパーシルエットだ。
スーパーシルエットとは、量産者の形状：シルエットだけを残したレース専用車両を指す。日本では1979年、富士グランドチャンピオンレース、通称グラチャンのサポートレースとして始まった「富士スーパーシルエットシリーズ」で活躍したが、このレースはほどなく、メインイベントのグラチャンを凌ぐ人気レースへと成長する。
スカイラインスーパーシルエットはそのレースの象徴となった１台だ。路面を削るように貼りだしたスポイラー、過激なまでに拡幅された前後フェンダーと大型のリアウィングをまとったボディにレース専用の2.1L４気筒ターボのLZ20B型エンジンを搭載、左ドア下のマフラーからアフターファイヤを履いてサーキットを走る様は、クルマ好きの心を揺さぶる圧倒的な存在感に満ちていた。
名手・長谷見昌弘のドライブによって1982～1984年のシーズンを戦い、８勝を挙げたスカイラインスーパーシルエット。車両既定の改定により、僅か３シーズン、19戦で姿を消した異形のスカイラインである。」

The Hakosuka GT-R, which had been a part of Japanese motorsports, put an end to its racing career in 1972. However, the Skyline legend continued, and fans continued to clamor for it to return to the circuit.
That dream came true in 1982. Nissan created a Silhouette Formula based on the Skyline 2000RS and sent it to the circuit. This car was the Skyline Super Silhouette.
The Super Silhouette is a race-only vehicle that retains only the silhouette of the mass-produced model. In Japan, it was active in the Fuji Super Silhouette Series, which began in 1979 as a support race for the Fuji Grand Champion Race, but this race soon grew into a more popular race than the main event.
The Skyline Super Silhouette became a symbol of that race. With a spoiler that protruded into the road surface, radically widened front and rear fenders, a large rear wing and a 2.1L 4-cylinder turbo LZ20B engine exclusively for racing, and afterfire coming out of the muffler under the left door, the car's overwhelming presence as it raced around the circuit stirred the hearts of car enthusiasts.
The Skyline Super Silhouette, driven by virtuoso Masahiro Hasemi, competed in the 1982-1984 seasons, winning eight races. However, due to a change in vehicle regulations, this unusual Skyline disappeared after just three seasons and 19 races.
