Peg legs are definitely, and by far, the most comfortable and easy-to-use prostheses ! Unfortunately, many p^rosthesists no longer accept to build them - as they are unwearable ...
The film is "REACH FOR THE SKY" starring Kenneth More as Douglas Bader .. I saw it in 1957/8? and it was helpful in arousing my interest in male leg amputees
Double amputees (DAK's) walking with a single peg leg have to face numerous difficulties : stairs, curbs, etc ... To do this, you need good muscles and a good training ...
I am RAK and mostly on crutches. A little while back my leg (left) was broken and in a long cast and still on crutches. I wore my peg leg a few times, lengthened it and my crutches so my casted toes would not touch the floor. got up on my crutches like the men in this clip. Difficulty was that on crutches you push off with the ball of the good foot and swing thru. Of course, I had no foot to lift so I had to raise up on my crutches and swing thru. Took a lot of concentration, but I managed to get about this way.
