I love this stitch. I just started working through your tunisian crochet videos and am making samples 20 stitches across. I feel like this one is prepping me to learn knitting, although I prefer working with a hook instead of 2 needles. I am going through your videos in order. I bought a Tunisian crochet hook set and am so happy you are doing this series. Thanks!
Mr In Stitches was doing a great job showing us. Thank You I’ve always avoided this stitch in the past. But your demonstration makes it so much easier.
Hi Jayda n Mr. In Stitches! You are doing a fantastic job with these videos!! This afternoon has been a zen kind of time for me. What can be more zen than a favorite hot beverage, a cat purring on your lap and watching Jayda do the March Square while doing the February square? Perfect kind of day!🥰
Hi Joy! That sounds like heaven to me! I unfortunately didn't have a purring cat while I worked on March, but it was definitely a zen sort of afternoon with this stitch!
On my way! I really thought that last year's blanket would have been my first and last. But I always wanted to learn how to do Tunisian crochet, so I couldn't resist. I had already purchased the hook set in 2020 during the lockdown. In fact, I had even bought knitting hooks. But coordinating the movements of both hands was a struggle. I love the compactness of the Tunisian stitch. But its just that it doesn't work up as fast as crochet... in my opinion. I prefer this hybrid version of knitting. I hope to eventually meet up with you guys in a few months. Your tutorials are thorough and easy to follow. Thank you.
Jayda you make things look so easy. I am a knitter, not a crocheter, but have merely dabbled in thanks to tutorials like yours. I followed along your big beautiful basket tutorial and ended up making 5 in different sizes from very large to small. I'm wondering if you have or would consider doing a tutorial on a crochet llama from start to finish. They are so cute with hat and blanket embellishments. Thanks for sharing your talent. :)
@@JaydaInStitches Hi Jayda, not an applique, a stuffed toy. I tried to find one but they are mostly in spanish, or not complete. If search on youtube you'll see what I mean. Some of them have a little hat and blanket on their backs. So cute. Thank you :)
There is a Sesame Street song that went something like this: "One of these things is not like the other..." I found that happening in the beginning where obviously I had missed something important in the pattern. Eventually I could sing to a different Sesame Street song "Over, Under, Around and Through..." and that is how I got through the first purl row that finally looked right.... I started making the cotton dishcloth first for practice. (Good call!)
I’ve always struggled with this stitch …. UNTIL NOW!!!! Thank you so much for both explanations on how to hold the working yarn, it made all the difference. Thank you again!! I’m loving the squares so far 🤓
Hi Jayda and Mr. InStitches!! Waving madly! 👋 Loved, loved, LOVED the Pearl stitch! Just finished my square and it's blocking as we speak! Thank you Jayda for all your patience teaching us wonderful new ways to crochet 🧶 🥰
Hi Kerry! Tunisian is definitely a cross between crochet and knitting...and I would say that it's a cross between the speed at which you can complete a row in either artform too!
I am loving this years calendar blanket! I was doubtful at first even though I had been wanting to learn more about Tunisian Crochet. The biggest thing I’m learning is to be patient! If I try to go fast--as in the same speed as I do other crochet stitches--I will always make mistakes. This is making me slow.down. And that’s good for me! I really love the results! I like the close weave that Tunisian makes and this month, it’s fun to see how it doesn’t curl! Thanks for teaching me more new things!

I’ve been blocking mine, but they seem so short compared to this one. Again, thank you for all you do!
I was panicking about that too. But I remembered Jayda saying that as long as you have the same stitch count it will be alright. 38 across and 32 rows up. So I'm taking a deep breath in and let it out. Trust our Jayda!😉

I have wanted always wanted to create crochet work that looks like knitting (but I don't want to learn how to knit). Thank you for making this possible!
Hi Sharon! We're so happy to hear that! I love that we can get a Knit look using Tunisian crochet hooks. This world of crochet just keeps getting bigger and bigger!

Looking forward to making this month's square. I am making two squares each month. I am almost done with my second February square. I haven't decided if I am going to make one big blanket or two blankets yet though.
I am making two squares each month also. I am hoping that at least one of each month will be nice enough to make a blanket for a special little person. I just finished my two for Feb which were rather difficult for me. I have started my first for March which do far seems so much easier. I am enjoying learning different Tunisian stitches.
@@5alfalfa I agree Vicki! February was a definite challenge. I am trying my second March block in a variegated yarn and it still is easier than last month. Both of my blankets will be give away. One to hospice and one to a friend
Jayda! I'm having so much fun with this stitch. Apparently I have tight tension because my squares so far are not close to the proper dimensions, but this stitch is so much looser, that I might not have to stretch it at all! Slow motion crocheting is a hoot!
Hi Tonya! Tunisian stitches all vary in their tension, so sizing will vary all year, but any large variations can easily be solved with different hook sizes or blocking 😊 And I agree, slow motion crochet is a real brain-tease LOL. I'm so used to flying along, this forces me to sit back and really enjoy the process!
@@JaydaInStitches Ha ha! I ordered a set of Afghan hooks. I'm just going to start all over. It's only 3 squares. Plus now the first 2 should be easier since I've had practice! I'll make a little blanket for a doll with the others. Keep up the excellent work! Go Jayda!!
Hi Alina! Definitely try each stitch with the little sampler first (6 chains, 6 rows) these "bite sized" bits of crochet help develop technique and show us what to look for in a small, easy to manage way 💗
I just completed January’s! Thanks to your good instructions it came out good, thank goodness lol. It’s a nice stitch, does look like knitting. I usually watch the tutorials before starting. I’m off to start February’s!
I started my March blanket square again. Now that I know what I am doing I can do it so much better. Not so many funny holes etc. I did mine in green for ☘️ St. Patrick's day in this month. Mine get tighter than yours but it still works for me.
Hi Linda, tension is a tricky thing to keep even with Tunisian, I struggle a little with it too. A larger hook for some of these patterns helps a lot 😊
Hi Cindy-Anne! I recommend bracing it against your lap, a pillow on your lap or your work surface. I found that gave me much more control over the hook and yarn and also didn't tire out my hands as much 💗
I am loving this one so much like you said it will be nice for a face cloth but I am going to make this lovely blanket each month with you look forward to your next one jayda
Hi Jayda. Do you have a video on how you are “blocking” your squares? If not. Would you please do one. I’ve never heard of this before and I’ve been knitting for over 50 years. Thank you. Really enjoy your videos, your none boring voice as you speak to us and your silly squeakiest at the beginning. X
Hi Lynda, we have a tutorial on steam blocking and another on wash and blocking. I'll include them both here. I've been steam blocking my squares. Just add a little steam, tug and pat it into place (pin if necessary) add a little more steam, tug and pat into place, repeat, repeat, repeat 😊 I lost out on 1st place in a Fall Fair crochet entry once because my blanket wasn't blocked...only made that mistake ONCE LOL! OK I started this blanket a little late, I had a 5.0 afgan hook to practice with, could not find larger size hooks at my favorite yarn stores near me, I ended up ordering a set on Amazon, it is so nice to use a size 6.0 hook.
Definitely different. I restarted 3 times ( 🤣😆🤣 ), but I finally got it. Definitely slower, but worth it. And can’t believe that this will make the 3rd square…. Where is the year going ? Have a fabulous evening & a great weekend. Hugs from Southern California. 🤗
Hi Leigh Ann! I KNOW! We're already a week into March. I'm not sure why 2022 is flying past but here we are on Square #3. My little Tunisian Square collection can now officially be called a "pile" 🤣
Loved making this. Can't wait for April. Have you ever made a hair net? The type that was in fashion in the 1940s? They were called Snoods. You could gather up all your hair in them. I'm wondering because I haven't been to the hairdresser since before covid and my hair is longer than I've had it before I like it but it kinda gets on my way especially at night. I still can't go to hairdresser because of my compromised immune system. I think it would be fun to try one 🌷❤
Hi Jlee! Yes, I have! I've experimented with a few different designs, but I was using fairly heavy yarn (well, relatively speaking 🤣) and I think a snood would work best with super find weight 😊
Greetings...completed the Tunisian Full Stitch. Had some problems with tension and counting. I had to rip back due to, mindlessly, using the Simple stitch in place of the Full stitch on some rows. I have decided to move to March (Purl Stitch), this time, using a J hook. I also wonder if my choice of yarn was part of the problem. Anywho, great learning experience! I purchased the March instructions...ready to go! By the way, my birthday is tomorrow. I'm sure I will spend some of it on the J hook! 😊
I'm enjoying this project so much! Did you change your mind about colors?? I noticed in the January video you said you would alternate between mustard and coral for the squares, but this month you're using grey. Just curious!
Love it 💗 I like both sides. I'm making at least 2 squares for each month. Wouldn't it be nice to use one front and one back to complete the blanket? There are so many possibilities. Thanks Mr and Mrs, Happy crocheting 💖
You can do it Bradley! If the whole square gets overwhelming, put it down, grab your regular hook and make a little sampler (6 chs, 6 rows) and just practice on the small scale for a bit 💗
Jayda I enjoy doing your patterns so much. was noticing your yarn needle with the loop on it, that you weaved in your ends with. Can you say where you got this needle from. Sometimes I don't leave enough tail and being able to weave the needle and then thread the needle would work wonders. thank you
Hi Adrian! We have a video on my wool needles here: ruclips.net/video/0EWXaWWffxc/видео.html And we mentioned them again recently (with some shopping links in the description) here: ruclips.net/video/an5Pm85TGNg/видео.html
Finally got this square finished 😁. I'm obviously way behind after making some baby blankets for new arrivals 😍🤩💝👶🦄🍼. Going to try catching up on all the rest ASAP ☺️😂😉
In the 2020 blanket you made a camper square. Do you make a square with a motorcycle? My grandson loves motorcycles and I would love to make a full motorcycle blanket for him.
So my blocks are not coming out the same size. February was the smallest/tightest and March is the biggest/loosest. Will there be a way to add maybe a thicker boarder to the smaller blocks at the end?
Hi Heather, the different stitches will all act a little differently, so blocking (and even playing with different hook sizes) plays a big role in this year's blanket. I highly recommend blocking your February square and any other squares that you feel are smaller than the largest or loosest of you squares. They don't all have to be exactly the same size, just close, because joining them will help sort out a lot of little sizing issues.
Jayda I love your videos....I basically learned to crochet from you! I am struggling a little with this one....can you show that last stitch at the end of the forward pass? I don't think I'm picking up the right loop....it is so hard to see once the purl stitch gets going and my left edge looks wierdly lumpy. Pls help!!
Hi Anna Maria, the last stitch of the forward pass is picked up in the last vertical bar. If you get all the way across and can't see that final bar easily, then you might find it helpful to mark it with a stitch marker before you begin your forward pass. You can count each vertical bar, going across the row, and it will be easier to see in that context. Then, just add a marker to it and you'll know exactly where to put your hook when you arrive 😊
This one is hard for me!!!! I’m a fast crocheter and this is too fiddle.. eee for me. Lol Jayda you are a great teacher and I’ll do it, will I like it…jury is still out on that one
Hi Elaine, each square in this series has the exact same border of single crochet all the way around. In the first 2 squares in the series, I cut my yarn to join the sage colour, but in this video, I continued with the same colour because I want them all to have the same colour border. 😊
HELP!!! I pick up 38 (37 plus the loop on my hook). I do the revers 15:34 e pass, I have 38 bars, I do the first forward pass of purl stitches, count the loops on my hook …. 37. I have messed with this for over a week. There have been times when I can maintain the stitch count for several rows and suddenly a stitch disappears… where does it go? I am getting very good at frogging my work. I’m about ready to give up😢
Hi Susan, it sounds like you're missing one: either somewhere across the middle (the purl vertical bars can be smaller) OR possibly at the very end. If I'm short 1 when I count up my loops after a forward pass, I place it flat on my table and carefully look backwards between each picked up loop to make sure I didn't miss any vertical bars on the way across. 😊
i like your needle with the loop on the end much like a threader. where can i find them for purchase? i have look on the internet but did not find any.
Hi Peggy, those are wool needles, and they're great! We recently discussed them (with some helpful shopping links) here: ruclips.net/video/an5Pm85TGNg/видео.html
Hi! I steam blocked mine but you can wash or spray and block too. If you're new to blocking we have a couple of tutorials on how to do that here: Steam Blocking: ruclips.net/video/HUlrCf9IDFI/видео.html Wash and Block: ruclips.net/video/lZuIiDHdpT8/видео.html
Hi Georgi! Be sure that you're not wrapping your yarn around your hook before you slip your hook through the vertical bar (this would create an extra loop). Then, make sure you're not some how picking up 2 loops with your wrapped yarn when you pick up a loop in the vertical bar. On your reverse pass, be sure that you're pulling back through 2 loops each time (and not only 1, because that will create extra stitches). I highly recommend making the little sampler first (6 chains, 6 rows) because this helps us get into the swing of things 😊
Hi Sue, you need to turn off your CC (closed caption) settings. You can click on the settings (little gear icon) on your video player and select turn off CC.
Hi Pauline! The hardest part is remembering to bring the yarn forward, but you eventually get into that habit. I found working against my lap made it much easier 💗

Go Jayda!!
Love this and really love the music! I am old as dirt and remember movies that had that particular music!!
* giggle * Hi Mary! We LOVE that music 💗 We wanted a French cafe-feeling sound...sometime to put us all in the mood 🤣
Thank You Jayda. I’m having fun learning these. Look forward to every month. You are a great teacher!!
Hi Wendy! We're so happy to hear that!
I love this CAL I absolutely love this CAL♡
Hi Debra! That's great!! Us too 😁
I love this stitch! Thanks.
We're so glad! Thank you for watching Tita 😊
Lookin gorg. Your teaching never lets learning something new, any less clear and exciting as always. Have a lovely w/e you guys. Txo
Thank you so much Trina 💗
Omg this is the Tunisian stitch that messes me up! I’m so glad you’re doing a tutorial on it. I may have to do this calendar blanket next year!
Hi Alina! Definitely try each stitch with the little sampler first (6 chains, 6 rows) these "bite sized" bits of crochet help develop technique and show us what to look for in a small, easy to manage way 💗
Thank you so much JAYDA It is fun Even I can do it🤣😂😁😀
Beautiful stitch
Happy March Julie!
@@JaydaInStitches thank you 🙂
Finishing up this square. Easy to follow tutorial ty, Jayda
Hi Nathalie! Happy March 😁
I just completed January’s! Thanks to your good instructions it came out good, thank goodness lol. It’s a nice stitch, does look like knitting. I usually watch the tutorials before starting. I’m off to start February’s!
Hi Sandy! That's a smart move...it's like reading the recipe before starting to cook (I do that!!)
@@JaydaInStitches yes a larger hook I have . In time I will get it. I am getting better as the square grows. Ha ha
I like both. I struggle with my right hand. Got my tunisian hooks. Can't wait to try this
Hi Cindy-Anne! I recommend bracing it against your lap, a pillow on your lap or your work surface. I found that gave me much more control over the hook and yarn and also didn't tire out my hands as much 💗
Thank you Jayda. I've got arthritis in both my hands now too
Oh my gosh! I'm on my 3rd attempt with March's stitch! I keep losing stitches! So far this time it's working out for me! Fingers crossed!
Hi Lisa! I find patience is our biggest friend when it comes to Tunisian...that and making little samples 😊
Jayda I have nearly made myself a fluffy sky blue waistcoat of course it’s going to be reversible because both sides are beautiful luv Teresa
Oh wow! That sounds amazing Teresa!
I am loving this one so much like you said it will be nice for a face cloth but I am going to make this lovely blanket each month with you look forward to your next one jayda
Hi Dawn! I love the feel of the purl stitch, I'm always delighted by the different textures we can get with crochet 😊
Thank you Jayda!😊🧶
You’re welcome Karla! Thank you for watching 😊
I like the front side of the purl st.
Hi Tripper! I also love how the front side feels under my fingers 😊
Thank you both
Thank you for watching Teresa 😊

Wash and Block: ruclips.net/video/lZuIiDHdpT8/видео.html
@@JaydaInStitches thank you. That has really helped. Though I’ve never washed any of my makes. But that will now end thanks to yourself xx
OK I started this blanket a little late, I had a 5.0 afgan hook to practice with, could not find larger size hooks at my favorite yarn stores near me, I ended up ordering a set on Amazon, it is so nice to use a size 6.0 hook.
Hi Sharon! Welcome to the project 😁
@@JaydaInStitches thank you really enjoying it hopefully I'll catch up quickly
Definitely different. I restarted 3 times ( 🤣😆🤣 ), but I finally got it. Definitely slower, but worth it. And can’t believe that this will make the 3rd square…. Where is the year going ?
Have a fabulous evening & a great weekend. Hugs from Southern California. 🤗
Hi Leigh Ann! I KNOW! We're already a week into March. I'm not sure why 2022 is flying past but here we are on Square #3. My little Tunisian Square collection can now officially be called a "pile" 🤣
this one scared me a little on the first watch but now that I'm actually making the square its not too bad! Thanks for the clear instructions!
Hi Jen, that's great! Thank you for watching 😊
@@JaydaInStitches yes I agree , light weight yarn is best. Would you maybe do a tutorial if you figure out a design? I think it would be cool. 😊
Happy Birthday Darlene!! 💗💗💗
Thank you so much for your support 😊
I'm enjoying this project so much! Did you change your mind about colors?? I noticed in the January video you said you would alternate between mustard and coral for the squares, but this month you're using grey. Just curious!
Hi Frances, I did! I thought to myself, "hey, you have a ton of this sage and you love it...why not add it into the blanket in a bigger way?" 😁
I really can't decide which side I like better. I'll have to wait and see once I can look at it up close and personal once mine's finish. 💜
I really like both...but I think I'm leaning towards the front. I love the feel of that bumpy purl stitch too 😁
Well I was able to complete this block, need Togo back and redo February
Hi Brenda! if you're feeling that February is tight, try the larger hook for that one 😊
Beautiful
Thank you Arlene!
Thanks jayda for this beautiful stitch..thanks for the tutorial ..i.made it..
Wonderful! Thank you for watching Thelma 😊
Love it 💗 I like both sides. I'm making at least 2 squares for each month. Wouldn't it be nice to use one front and one back to complete the blanket? There are so many possibilities. Thanks Mr and Mrs, Happy crocheting 💖
That's a great idea Lesley!!
Dropping stitches like crazy with this one. It will look so nice if I can get it right. Lol
Hi Darrin! Noooooo rush at all 💗
Oooh that is neat! And maybe if I can do this it will help me be able to knit the pearl stitch too
It will! I found with knitting the purl stitch my biggest issue was finding a more comfortable and efficient way to keep bringing my yarn forward. 😊
Hi Jayda !! I like this pattern Thank you food sherring l like both sides
Hi Maria! Thank you for watching 😊
I actually love the wrong side!
It's got such a lovely evenness to it!
Thought I was going to give up but I kept trying and voila I got it. 😊 yay me 😆
Hi Robin, that's great! Way to go!
In the 2020 blanket you made a camper square. Do you make a square with a motorcycle? My grandson loves motorcycles and I would love to make a full motorcycle blanket for him.
Hi Kim! We do not have a motorcycle square pattern, but thank you for the suggestion!
Felt like forever ago we had a panel lol. I love this stitch
* giggle * And February was the short month! Happy March Mary 😊
@@JaydaInStitches lol I know ,loving this stitch. I earned Tunisian crochet a while ago , but just basic stitch. So this is great learning new ones
Thank you! The stitch marker solved my problem...now I have nice neat edges
Both sides are nice 👍
I agree!
This one is hard for me!!!!
I’m a fast crocheter and this is too fiddle.. eee for me. Lol
Jayda you are a great teacher and I’ll do it, will I like it…jury is still out on that one
Hi Kay! This one definitely forces us fast crocheters to slow down 😊
Merhaba canım arkadaşım cappadocia Türkiye den kucak dolusu sevgiler Harika paylaşımın için çok teşekkür ederim 💯💯💯👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌👌👌
Thank you for watching 😊
Thank you. This is a great tutorial. It's so much fun. I find that this doesn't seem to curl. I guess purl no curl. :)
Hi Allan! Purl, no Curl 😁 Ooooh I like that!
I like the right side of the purl stitch.
Me too! It also has such a nice feel to it 😊
I like the back side better
Do we have a border for all the squares? Is not having a border part of the pattern I'm not sure what I should be doing?
Hi Elaine, each square in this series has the exact same border of single crochet all the way around. In the first 2 squares in the series, I cut my yarn to join the sage colour, but in this video, I continued with the same colour because I want them all to have the same colour border. 😊
@@JaydaInStitches thanks 😊
Tunisian is so simple and nice but hurts my hands more than crocheting and knitting
It definitely takes a "retooling" of the coordination!
Cool thank's
Hi Suz! Happy March!
So how can you block them
Hi! I steam blocked mine but you can wash or spray and block too. If you're new to blocking we have a couple of tutorials on how to do that here:
Steam Blocking: ruclips.net/video/HUlrCf9IDFI/видео.html
Wash and Block: ruclips.net/video/lZuIiDHdpT8/видео.html
Hello cant seem to do this pattern but I have manage do extended simple stitch can you do hdc video
Thank you for the suggestion Eleanor! 😊
Hdc is my favourite stitch
WOOHOO MS J AND GENERAL G ❤️
Hi Cherry!!
Help I'm gaining loops and stitches. I count my stitches every pass forward and back.
@@JaydaInStitches restarted and is working out correctly. Think I was going too fast and not 110% counting correctly. Is better 2nd try. LoL
i think the front of the pattern is more unique
Hi Torrie! I love the feel of it too. It looks exactly like knitting!
It looks tricky.
Hi Janet! Slow and steady 😊
I will come to March later, I am not well today.
Sorry to hear this. Will say a prayer for u. Blessings.
Sorry, you're not feeling well. Prayers for quick recovery.
😯I hope you feel better soon.
Hi Shari! We hope you were able to get some much needed rest over the weekend and that you're feeling better today 💗
@@retagorman4351 thank you!
I like the wrong side.
I cqnn0t stop the captions very frustrating..
Hi Sue, you need to turn off your CC (closed caption) settings. You can click on the settings (little gear icon) on your video player and select turn off CC.
This looks challenging…yikes
Hi Pauline! The hardest part is remembering to bring the yarn forward, but you eventually get into that habit. I found working against my lap made it much easier 💗
Sorry girlie I love you but this is not for me. Go girl. Thanks for the variety for others.
Hi Sarah! Thank you for dropping by 😊
Thanks Jayda. Have to get back into it. Just have so much work!!😊🧶
HI Karla! No Rush 😁 Just enjoy the process!
