Best thing I was told to remember while in labour; "The pain isn't because I'm hurt, it's just power"

Mommas, its gonna be just fine( if you want to go natural) . I urge y'all to watch relaxation videos...the ones that are labor/delivery specific. Watch them over and over until you feel confident with yourself. During the progression of labor, stay in a comfy position. Listen to music, concentrate on your breathing, and close your eyes. When it time to push, set you mind on your contraction, listen to your body and push when the pressure comes. Relax between contractions. You can keep your eyes close if it makes you feel more relaxed. If you feel, at any time, like your falling into panic mode try to think about the result. Its only for a time and with a few more pushed baby will be in your arms.
What also helped me was watching home births. I watch how these women worked through the pain and discomfort with the help of their midwives. I used their technique to help me through my delivery. I kind of blocked out my husband and the room filled with nurses and two doctors. It helped me to relax and concentrate on my body and my baby. 😌😌🙂

It blocks my breath for 4-5 mins while sleeping..its really annoying but yeah you're right, I've also watching home birthing videos n it gives me strength for natural delivery.. hope my delivery goes smoothly 😇😇😇

Why the heck did the algorithm recommend this to me?! I have cervical cancer and I need a total hysterectomy. I’m so sad. I don’t have kids, and I guess I never will have natural kids now. To all the moms out there that have been through labor, Gd bless you. I wish I could count myself amongst your ranks, but unfortunately, it seems that Gd has dealt me other cards. Bless you all. To all pregnant ladies out there who are afraid of the pain, just think of people like me who would give anything to be in your place. Safe deliveries to you all 🙏❤️

@@chantelwilliams3543 She said she is getting a hysterectomy. Perhaps you could support her in a different manner, such as wishing her the best of luck beating the cancer & suggesting that she consider going the foster-to-adoption route if she's healthy. God can't give her a child. Let's have some respect for OP & SCIENCE. I know you meant well -- and I'm not trying to be rude -- but using God in an attempt to provide (false) hope is a bit cruel.

I was in utter agony when I was 2cm. The pain didn't get worse I just had shorter breaks between contractions until there were none at all. They tried to send me home. It was agony and more agony. My pain was not believed. It went on for many many hours. I have never felt so helpless, I just couldn't make anyone believe me. I was told to be quiet repeatedly because I was screaming after 4 hours of this... I thought we were both going to die. Then I started bleeding large clots. I was emergency transferred for a c-section. I ended up giving birth vaginally in theatre. I no longer had a sense of being in my own body by this time. My mind just couldn't cope anymore and I wasn't present anymore. Like an observer. I pushed and tore and felt nothing but a slippery sensation when she came out. I thought my baby was dead and I was to follow, and I had accepted that because at least it was over... I have never recovered from the PTSD that followed. Now I'm having a baby 6 years later. If a midwife tells me my pain scale is wrong, she's fucking fired immediately. Believe women.

I know everyone has probably heard this a million times, but the second you hold your baby for the first time, all that pain and hard work is worth it. The best advice I can give is be aware that it is going to hurt, accept that it’s going to hurt, and focus.

I think using the words “pain” and “hurt” is what actually hurts pregnant women. I’m a dentist and even in dentistry we are taught the power of our words. Told not to use “hurt”, “pain”,”needles”, “blood”, “you may hear breaking” etc- instead you say “pressure”,”intense”, “uncomfortable”, “injection”, “feel a little pinch”, “heme”.”you may hear sounds” and tell them all is ok and normal to experience. If a patient comes in freaking out about the needle or work, I promise you we will have a difficult time numbing them. The brain literally overrides the physiological numbing because they are in heightened awareness, fight or flight. Their brain is saying “pay attention!!!! Protect us!!!”. The same happened in birth. If you’re panicking and saying this is going to “hurt” on a scale of 1-10? You’ll be anticipating that 10. Our minds are as important if not more so in the perception of experiences. I had a non epidural, pitocin induced birth and I cannot lie that was crazy intense- because we forced the baby out. In comparison, i didn’t even realize I was in labor until 2 hours before my son was born. I barely made it to the hospital and walked myself from the car to the third floor and pushed my son out all within 27 minutes of pulling into hospital parking lot. I was not screaming, I was not freaking out. I shuffled quietly in just worried we weren’t even going to make it. They wanted me to fill paperwork out I was so calm 🤣🤣🤣 because they had no idea how close to delivery I was until I dropped the pad to the floor to deal with a contraction. They wheeled me into closest room and I told them I’m pushing and
That was that. Birth is not scary. Get your mind around the fact this is the most intuitive and natural thing you’ll ever do and get out of your body’s way. Don’t worry about the pain scale. Time your contractions and once you can’t talk through them anymore and you have to get focused and quiet- head to the hospital

I should mention I did a ton of mental prepping and de-brainwashing myself of birth fear before my second. Read Ina May Gaskins’ guide to childbirth and listen to hundreds of real birth stories on the podcast “the birth hour” to learn as much as you can.

I don’t mean to say anything negative, but the way women talk about labor is so nice. They use words like “intense” and “uncomfortable”.... labor is severely painful. Also, dilation doesn’t equate to how much pain you’re in. You can be in extreme pain and only be only 3cm. So I’m glad she straight up said that labor is painful. It is. And I’m glad she talked about control, because you can very easily start to feel out of control. I found myself holding my breath and also hyperventilating because the pain was so extreme. You need a plan for that. I’m glad she was so real about this.

I was not adequately prepped, because the language is way too friendly, I was almost climbing walls, and nearly peed on my doula, I lost the plot for like 5 min, and then he was out, the pain was forgotten and he's sleeping on my boob now, I am grateful for the experience, he came at 41 weeks, unmedicated Vbac.

My doctor recommended an epidural for my first baby. I tried going natural but he was a large baby and he was facing up. Not breech but face to the sky. His shoulders did become stuck and I majorly hemorrhaged after he was born. Honestly epidural and all I FELT so much pain in that birth. My next two births were wonderful and easy. But to this day I do not regret having an epidural for my first born. I think I would have gone into shock or fainted from that birth if I hadn't had one.

I've had five kids. Four natural and one emergency c section. With all five, the afterbirth (placenta) was the most painful and uncomfortable.
I think in my mind, I am always thinking after the baby is out it's going to be less painful and then my body almost goes into a painful shock and remember that the pain part is not really over and still need to pass the placenta. Luckily all of mine came out within seconds of the baby. It was actually in me the longest with the c section. lol.

I went from 2-3cm to feeling like baby is gonna drop out in an hour and half and it was painful but manigeble. Pain got immediately lower when I got to pushing. When nurse ran in and I got to push it was 3 pushed and baby was out. I was in a tub and immediately got up with the baby on my chest and walked to bed. The pain stoped as soon as baby was out. I felt so energetic. My labour over all lasted 3 and half hours and the nurse had no idea how the baby came out so fast. Never got the epidural because I wasent "far enough" and "baby is not gonna be here for atleast another 10 hours"

I got an epidural at 9 cm. Didn't feel a thing. I was induced and had contractions for 17 hours, was starved for 2 days, hadnt slept all night, and just had no energy. 2 hours later my son was born. Glad I got the epidural. Total of 19 hours...1st day of induction nothing happened and I was very hungry. All I could have was jello and popsicles.

I once heard my sister in law said “yes it hurts but once it’s over it’s over and you have your baby. It’s all worth it.”

    • @slumberzombie
      @slumberzombie 5 лет назад +3

Jessica Michelle labor itself hurts yes but the delivery of the baby (like where the baby comes outta you and slide out) not! I personally prefer natural birth than the epidural one, cause the epidurals after effects isn’t great.

    • @slumberzombie
      @slumberzombie 5 лет назад +1

Jessica Michelle to explain exactly how epidural feels, after they administer to you on the back of your spine the anesthesia, your whole abdomen is numbed out to your thighs, there’s just little effort of pushing out and you don’t actually feel the “birthing pain” you would feel the baby coming out but you won’t feel any intensity at all.. but once the anesthesia fades away, that’s when the post-labor/delivery pains occurs, as if the epidural only covers the pains during the delivery time but eventually gets you after. It hurts like hell. This is based on my experience though so I’m sharing it. But yeah, it’s still up to you how you prefer your childbirth 😊😊😊

How bad does labor feel without the epidural? I was really considering a natural child birth and then maybe get some pain meds after the baby is born.. Can I do that? Not a definite decision yet just questions I wanted to get answered. :)

I'd like to argue the most painful part of labor is having super fast labor and crowning and they tell you not to push and to wait for the doctor. Every time they told me not to push I could wait only 3 contractions and the baby came out on its own and the ER doctors couldn't even deliver the baby because my body wanted them out NOW! LOL but I have rare precipitous labor with all 3 of my babies and I'm expecting baby #4 in the next few weeks

Jordan Wright same! They checked me and I was 2cm dilated, 45 min later I begged them to check me again and they didn’t believe me that I was ready to push. The doctor checked and the babies head was crowning!!! Fast labor and birth!

I want to know how different it’s going to be from last time. I gave birth to my baby when we were 21 weeks and 2 days. A stillbirth. I was induced and it took around 2 days. It only hurt in the last like 4 hours and the last half an hour was the worst and morphine and a bunch of other stuff didn’t help. I was signing for an epidural right as it changed to back labor pain and had to push. There was only like 15 second breaks where I would pass out from all the medications and come back to for a couple minutes straight of contractions.

Oh please it is nowhere near surgery without anesthesia. It's probably not even the worst pain you can experience. I would compare it to a really bad headache that nails you down to bed and makes you disabled to do anything but think about the pain. The problem with labor is that in the midst of all that pain you have to be composed and highly cooperative, and perform one of the most demanding tasks of your life.

That's your experience, I have walked on broken bones after breaking 9 mostly in legs feet and ankles, I had my jaw broken, been stabbed, also 2nd-degree burns from scalding, nothing I repeat NOTHING I have been through is more painful than labour. I would rather have every bone in my body broken than go through 10mins of contractions it was like being tortured in hell the pain was so bad I thought I would die just from the pain that I really wanted to die to just escape the ongoing unbearable torture but it just goes on and on and on until you start to lose your mind, thrashing, vomiting, convulsing, screaming, ripping hair out and banging head violently against the floor you can not pick yourself up from as every nerve in my body is screaming at me as if I was burning in the fiery pits of hell. It was like somebody had thrust big metal hooks through my skin hooking around my lower spine, the front of the pelvis and each side of my hips and during contractions, it felt as if somebody had attached ropes to the hooks and tied those ropes
to horses and while the contraction was happening it felt like those horses we being whipped to pull those ropes ripping my spine out of my back while ripping my hips apart with my pelvis. It was like my thigh bones, spine, hips, pelvic bones we being broken over and over and over for hours on end. On top of that was also a feeling as if somebody was thrusting 12-inch kitchen knives into my vagina every 30 seconds for 3 days along with insane cramping pain that felt likey uterus was trying to eat all my organs, my entire abdominal area felt like I had drunk acid and my insides were melting, I couldn't breathe, speak, see, hear or even understand words my world was just pain, I was nothing but pure misery and pain. I would have happily given or done anything to make it stop I did not even care if I or my baby died as long as the pain stopped. The fear, PTSD and shock lead to me becoming suicidal, some women seem to get off lightly and some women it is like living through 3 days of hell from which you will never mentally recover from the trauma of how horrific, terrifying and unbearably painful birth can be for some. Count yourself as lucky.

katie fanning oh my word. That’s sounds horrific. I’m so sorry you went through that. Did you not have access to pain medication? Or did it not work? Are you in therapy now for ptsd? I know there are women who need professional help to deal with birth trauma. Again I’m so sorry.
I feel incredibly lucky to have had such a positive experience, myself. I spent my entire pregnancy mentally preparing myself for labor and getting into the necessary mindset for natural birth. I had a midwife who was very supportive and she helped me to not only have belief in myself and my ability to birth my baby, but she instilled in me such a belief in my own body. My body was made for this! From her and also from a very educational childbirth class my husband and I attended, I learned many great coping mechanisms and pain management techniques that proved to be very helpful for me in labor. The use of water (I had a water birth), breathing, focal points, hip squeezes, etc were amazing tools that helped me so much. I also went into the experience with the knowledge and true belief that the pain is not because something is wrong, but rather the pain is an indicator that my body is functioning properly and doing exactly what it needs to be doing. Every contraction was one step closer to meeting my baby, and that could only be perceived as a positive thing in my mind. Your mind is a very powerful thing! I honestly and truly believe that mindset is everything!
I’m telling you all this because I want to give you hope that, if you ever have more children, your next experience doesn’t have to be like your first! With the correct education, as much knowledge as you can pack into your brain, an attentive and supportive healthcare provider, and a positive mindset - childbirth can be a positive experience. That’s what I hope for you next time (if there is a next time).
All the best, and take care of yourself ❤️

The whole "training for a natural unmedicated labor" bit is BS. I had my 1st son last October and I did a fully unmedicated birth with 0 complications. I had an 8 hour labor start to finish, and the nurses thanked me at the end for being so calm and respectful through the entire process. mind over matter, if you want to do something bad enough, you will.

I think telling women to reevaluate their pain is evil if she is suffering she is suffering and should not be condescended to telling her the agony she is feeling is not real pain. Why do people lie to women about exactly how horrific the pain really is for some women, I considered just killing myself to escape the pain after days of unproductive contractions and being told to relax and breathe because nobody would take how bad I was suffering seriously. The pain was unbearable but everybody just ignored it.
I don't have a low pain threshold I have walked on broken bones and had them pushed back into place without any meds to save my foot this is after breaking 9 bones mostly in my legs feet and ankles, I have also on separate occasions had my jaw broken, been stabbed, also 2nd-degree burns from scalding, yet nothing I repeat NOTHING I have been through is more painful than labour I would gladly rather have all those happen at once than go through even an hour of 'early' labour . I would rather have every bone in my body broken than go through 10mins of contractions.... it was like being tortured in hell is the only way I can describe it, the pain was so bad I thought I would die just from the pain, then I really wanted to die to just escape the ongoing unbearable torture that somehow despite it being in almost supernatural levels of agony we didn't know existed it keeps getting worse and worse and it just goes on and on and on until you start to lose your mind, thrashing, vomiting, convulsing, crying, begging, screaming, ripping hair out, losing control of bodily functions and banging head violently against the floor and eventually something snaps in your mind and its like you become so defeated and broken and demented from the pain its like your soul starts to separate from the body so even though you still feel every drawn out second of the agony its like the life inside you has gone elsewhere sort of detached, as every nerve from my breasts down in my body is screaming at me as if I was burning in the fiery pits of hell.
On top of that at the same time there was also a feeling as if somebody was thrusting 12-inch kitchen knife into my vagina and anus every and twisting it 30 seconds for 3 days, along with the feeling that my cervix was being constantly priced apart my a metal ring covered in razor blades and heated white hot, along with insane cramping pain that felt likey uterus was trying to eat all my organs, crushing twisting feeling so intense it felt like my body was going through a meat grinder with early contractions, my entire abdominal area felt like I had drunk acid and my insides were melting while being slowly run over by a truck over and over.
I couldn't breathe, speak, see, hear or even understand words my world was just pain, I was nothing but pure misery and pain.
Count yourself as lucky if you didn't find it that painful or at least bearable but for some women it can be agonising like the level of pain most women only get for a few mins in transition but all the way through, it's down to nerve distribution, pelvic shape, size and position of baby and if all those go against you then your in for the worst experience you could ever go through without dying and it feels never-ending.
Do not belittle or deny pain relief to women in labour who need it at ANY stage if a woman needs it and experiences extream pain before even at 2cm give her sympathy and pain relief because she's not being dramatic and you are causing her suffering that will leave her mentally scarred, being told that's not real pain when you can not cope and that worse is to come so they better just get used to it will terrify and panic the woman, which will increase her stress hormones leading to more pain and complications. The woman will feel distressed and petrified afterwards it will make her feel like a failure and very alone as nobody will help her which will lead to her feeling even more suffering which then leads to negative outcomes for mother and baby.
To deny pain relief to women in ANY stage of labour is inhumane if they are suffering and in distress.
I hate midwives like that if I was in early labour knowing what I know now and denied pain relief and sent home I would hang myself rather than go through that torture again.
Birth pain is no joke and should not be played down conning women into thinking it will all be ok when sometimes it really isn't.

I was going to get an epidural but apparently I waited too long to go to the baby hospital to deliver it wasn't painful that much to me. All it was was a lot a pressure but no pain really. Yes they did have to put oxygen on me because I did hyperventilate.

having a baby natrually...hmmm o day the worse part is the labor pains...shit goes on for hours..the ring of fire...🔥 ull be feeling burning...now the second part that hurts...is if your baby has been playing on one spot the doctor will rub that one spot to deliver the placenta no lie...i swear they just know where to rub...ehen your already sore...and third...the placenta after dilevering a baby you'll have to do it one more time..just with out the extreme labor pain..it burns after ur ver jay jay in the process of healing
