The Italian composer of bel canto operas, Domenico Gaetano Maria Donizetti (1797-1848) wrote this charming concertino for his classmate Giovanni Catolfi in 1816. Lewis J. Buckley transcribed the piece from the original chamber orchestra accompaniment to a small wind ensemble reminiscent of the early 19th century, adding variation and ornamentation in the bel canto style.
