Really awesome to see young people discovering Tori. I mean on one hand, how can they not, it's a given that artists like that achieve eternal admiration but on the other hand, I'm kinda old already and it's just nice to find young people's channels when searching for Tori Amos. ❤
when you said "there are times that you're like...how?....ugh" same, girl. I've been listening to her since 1998 and I often still find myself feeling the same way.
The Waitress and Iieee from this same concert are also worth watching. Or just the whole thing since it's one of her best filmed performances due to asking the audience to reserve applause & noise in general for the end of the song.
Art! A great job, Dani! Loved it! Thanks for this! There is something about a real unique artist that draws you in and mesmerizes you, and this is a great example. Even subtle things like her stage directions to her sound guy (who she ended up marrying, I think) and the fact that she was able to get the most sought after session drummer around, Matt Chamberlain, speaks to how well respected she was as an artist that people wanted to play with.
Yeah she played with Matt Chamberlain for two decades, and the bassist (Jon Evans) is still touring with her to this day. She was already married to her sound engineer at this point - they met on her 1994 tour and got married just before the release of the album she was promoting when she did this show in 1998. They have their own professional studio in Cornwall, England.
I love your reactions so much. You strike such an enjoyable balance between immersion in the experience and descriptive engagement with the audience. Tori Amos' music, in particular, played a hugely supportive and inspiring role in my life during a delicate developmental phase for me. And being able to reconnect with the magic and vitality of that experience through the spirit of discovery and mutual appreciation through your videos means so much. Thank you for sharing your gifts. There are several live performance videos of hers here on RUclips from around this era- which was a peak, I think- like her Welcome To Sunny Florida concert video, and VH1 Storytellers, and MTVs Unplugged. I'm also hoping you might react to her song, 'Sugar' at some point, which there are a couple of excellent live versions for on RUclips. Its a particularly gorgeous song. Best wishes. I look forward to watching your future reactions.
I liked this reaction, so don't take this as a criticism. But I've watched oodles of Tori Amos reactions and rarely does anybody mention her piano playing. It's like watching Led Zeppelin and not noticing Jimmy Page's guitar or Bonham's drumming. She is, arguably, the most accomplished pianist of any modern popular music. Why does she so often not get the credit for that? Anyway, as for this particular reaction, I really appreciated what you had to say. I think you hit the nail on the head about her being uninhibited and organic in her singing. She doesn't care about looking weird or being weird or fitting in the usual mold of what a singer should do. She's sings how it's right for the song at hand. Thanks for reacting to this!
I've always put her in the same category of someone like Kate Bush. Very Art Pop and Progressive Pop. Not my cup of tea but I've always thought she was very talented. Especially writing her own material. She's certainly unique in her sound.

She is heavily influenced by Kate Bush for sure, and it comes through-I think-in her breaths, her use of dynamics and open space….she’s the real.
