What a finals match! As dominant as Rinya Sun has been, it's only as good as the player who uses it (as is the case with any other team lol). For Eric to use that team to win a Regional and then an International shows just how skilled he is
Oliver didn't threw it. It was all mindgames at that moment. 1vs1 zacian would win from both. Oliver needed to predict the right moment to EQ, cuz you can't rely on rock slide flinch + thunder. But unlucky he chose the wrong turn for it, not his fault. You can tell Eric was stressed too, cuz every play he made the last 3 turns had to be the right one. That's some tough shit. It could've gone either way if only 1 of them made the right call... And in this case it was Eric
For anyone saying Oliver played weird for double protecting and stuff! Let me explain why those decisions are made! The way Oliver can lose this very hard is if he falls victim to Zacian protecting and him EQ his own ogre! That’s why he double protects to cover for Eric’s protect
@@jimmylim3462 it was actually MISSING the play rough that won eric euic. Bc if he hadn't missed, kyogre would be barely alive and die to life orb after launching an attack. Then landorus can eq since groudon is dead eq becomes a single target move, 100 bp which would KO zacian

It was a 50/50: if he double attacked that turn (EQ+Thunder) and Zacian protects, you just did the final turn one turn earlier. Double attack with Rock Slide risks Zacian picking off the Kyogre and surviving the Rock Slide If one of Kyogre or Landorus protects and the other attacks, you risk Zacian targeting the attacking one and losing. If you double protect you end up at the final turn which is another 50/50--EQ knocks out Kyogre if Zacian protects or Rock Slide doesn't knock out Zacian if it KOs the Kyogre and then Zacian wins any 1v1 I think the double protect was expecting a Zacian protect to stall out the last turn of rain so Thunder isn't 100% Acc anymore and Eric called out that prediction
But wait I don’t understand, after oliver’s landorus used earthquake it did knocked out kyogre and didn’t knocked out eric’s zacian. How did eric won if oliver’s landorus was still alive?
Oh gosh, Oliver fell to the pressure. Double protecting is not the way to go in a 1 v 2, especially since Zac doesn't have spread type damage. Oliver should have gone for the earth quake a few turns ago.
@@dredre7990 I guess he was trying to predict Eric max guard Charizard and yawn Landorus, it’s kinda 50/50. The final game though, Zacian was intimidated so Oliver really should gamble on Landorus not being OHKO by Zacian and click earthquake+protect Kyogre when Landorus was relatively healthy.
VGC doubles rules are you have a team of 6, which you show your opponent at team preview. Then, based on what your opponent shows you, you pick four of your own, two leads and two held in the back. The actual battle is 4v4. Because it's best of 3, you can change which 4 you bring for the second and third games.
Well, at that point he’d already seen the Play Rough miss come out, whereas thunder in the rain is 100% guaranteed damage and a decent chance to get the para onto Zacian, which would have guaranteed the game.
Oliver’s Kyogre didn’t have Origin Pulse. It’s only water move was Water Spout, which given the Kyogre’s low health, wouldn’t have been enough to put down the Zacian.
@@Scramblepants69 Ah I didn't know that, but isn't it a strange thing to gush if you use life orb? I also played kyogre life orb but with gush but I also had origin pulse because hindsight as you said you would not do more damage because of the life orb. really good games, I would have preferred oliver with kyogre to win since sun wins everything these days.
@@anubis6953 I think the logic is that Water Spout + Life Orb from full or near-full health is so powerful that the recoil from life orb won’t make a huge difference in a quick format like VGC. Like if your health is gonna be lowered so much that Water Spout is useless, that damage isn’t gonna come from Life Orb recoil, it’ll come from damage on the other side, so might as well use life orb to turn it into an absolute nuke while you can. Obviously in the scenario here, Origin Pulse would’ve been more ideal, but it got him to the finals so clearly it served him well for the most part
Y'all are just wrong lol. Zacian KO's lando from there, there was one turn of rain left and thunder would have KO'd zac with thunder. Owe was reading Rios protecting to stall the last turn of rain.
